My feelings about AOMD are conflicted. I hadn't been to a dentist in about seven years (I know, I know) even though I had insurance. I noticed I had what looked like a cavity, my first ever, and decided I should probably get it checked out. I made an appointment over the phone, which was very easy (even though the receptionist told me I would ruin my gums for having my lip pierced and I should permanently take it out when I asked if I needed to remove my ring for the cleaning), for the Lakeview office. Everyone was very nice when I got there, and were shocked about how nice my teeth were for not having gone to the dentist in such a long time. In fact, all I had were two small cavities. I received a quote about how much my insurance would cover and what I would have to pay (was told 80 dollars), and made two separate appointments to get them filled one at a time.
I don't want to drag this on, but the procedures themselves were fine. Quick, pain free, and hopefully effective. My first appointment I paid the 80 dollars and thought that was it. On my second appointment, I was charged another 60. That kind of annoyed me since I was told the price I was quoted was for both fillings. But I know how insurance companies are weird, so I didn't think much of it.
Fast forward to six months later. After my fillings, I had another appointment for a six month cleaning, but due to changing jobs, I lost my insurance and had to cancel. Easy enough to do over the phone. A few weeks later, there was a debit to my checking account for 130 dollars from the dentist! When I called to ask what was going on (assuming they had charged me for the cleaning I cancelled), I was told my insurance didn't cover all of my cleaning and X-ray exams! I asked why I was never sent a bill or given a phone call to explain this and they just took my money six months after the fact. I was told I had been sent several bills... Now, I had moved, so I guess my mail didn't forward... But after mailing "multiple notices" without a response, why wouldn't they just call me? Or email? Or ask me when I called to cancel my six month cleaning appointment?
Needless to say, it really frustrated me. Again, I understand insurance companies can deny things, but why quote me certain amounts after they said they called my insurance company to figure out what I would owe? And then the lack of contact about my billing issues and just taking money away with no notice? It just seems shady.
When I get new insurance, I will be going elsewhere. The staff was very friendly, in particular the girl who did my cleaning, but it all seems like a bit of a show now. And just yesterday I had a voicemail asking me to reschedule my cleaning that I canceled and I even told them I was canceling because I didn't have insurance!
Nice people, shady billing... Stay away if you don't want to get unnecessary headaches.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Do yourself a HUGE favor and do not go to this practice. I was fooled when I first went to them and loved the place- it's nice, clean, updated and my hygenist was amazing. Then the Dentist came in- telling me I had 4 cavaties, needed at least one root canal, and I should consider Invisiline (I have had braces and have very straight teeth). I was NOT pleased. Mind you, I had not been to the dentist in 3 years, so maybe a cavity would be OK- but I have very nice teeth and take great care of them. I went through with the suggested root canal (I am 27) and it was pretty stress free, except I had to go to the South Loop office and the Dr down there is NOT gentle at all, not personable and sort of an ass. It was quick- in and out in 1 hour. But then began the billing issues. This Dr that does the root canals is a specialist, and you will pay for it! This dentist used up an entire year of my dental insurance in one procedure. I still payed about $1,800 out of pocket for it all, including the 3 other cavities they gave me.
The worst part was when I went back to the Southport office, they thought an old filling might be having issues, so they dug it out completly and told me I needed another root canal, and had no choice in the matter, because at that point I had a gaping hole in my tooth. GEE thanks! So since my $$ was all gone for the year, I was going to have to spend $2,000+ on this. I paid upfront on my Credit card (DO NOT EVER DO THIS). I decided to get a second opinion and was told it was not an emergency and did not need a root canal. To say the least, I did not go through with the second root canal, and I still have not received the money they charged me upfront, and this was over 3 months ago. I have called everyday and have been avoided, she's always in 'meetings' when I call, and the staff is starting to just take messages (rudely) and that doesn't work either. I don't even know what else to try- maybe I am out $2,000.
Short story- Do not let them fool you into thinking you need a bunch of pricery procedures you do not need! -

I've been a Yelp reader for years and with my experiences at Art of Modern Dentistry, I finally felt compelled to become a reviewer. I wish I felt compelled with feelings of joy vs. anger. I've bounced between dentists for years, not because I've been dissatisfied, just because one was more convenient than another. When my friend described the beautiful decor and the fact that he had no problems with this dentist, I decided to check them out.
Normally, the dentist tells me my teeth are healthy and need no work. This dentist, on the other hand, wanted to do a lot of work. I thought "well, they have state of the art equipment, maybe they can see more than the other dentists I've been to". While that may or may not be true, the many experiences I've had with this office, with onlays and a root canal have been a nightmare.
The treatments themselves have been fine, but Sandra, the billing person does not return phone calls, claims she has called you and sent you bills when she has not, the receptionist changes your appt. and doesn't tell you (I even had the confirmation voice mail that the dentist heard and knew was wrong), so that when you've taken off work for the umpteenth time and show up, you're left to taking more time off.
Additionally, I actually waited to have work done so that a claim would be submitted in the following year (I had so much work done there that I had no insurance money left) and the dentist herself told me that she would not put the claim through until next year, as I waited to have the work done in the following year, but submitted the claim IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR anyway without my permission after she told me she wouldn't do that and I get a call from the billing person saying that I owe over $500 because the claim was not accepted. She told me that she called me on 2/14/12 and 2/15/12 and mailed a bill on 3/7/12, all of which I never received and then said that she was calling me back (on 3/16/12), which is not possible because I never received a message to call her in the first place. I am furious.
I really wish I would've read the other reviews (both for this location and the South Loop location) before going here. I've never been treated like this before and will not give this dentist the opportunity to treat me like this again. -

PLEASE...do NOT consider anything to do with this place.
I have been looking for a new dentist and have also been thinking about whitening my teeth, so when Groupon offered Zoom with them, I snapped it up.
First, the girls that they have answering the phones...I swear. I'm not even sure if they know where they were working. They couldn't answer any questions, were very unprofessional and I expected "like, oh my god" to be said at every pause.
Each time I would try to schedule an appointment for my Zoom whitening, I was given the run-around. Call this number, no...call this number...no, you should have called this number, let me transfer you (click)...you get my drift. Once I was finally able to schedule an appointment, they called two days later and cancelled it. So, I rescheduled for another day. Two days later...cancelled. So I made another appointment, cancelled...and so on.
Finally fed up, I contacted Groupon and threw in the towel.
From the word Go, this has been a horrible experience. Not one part of any of it has been redeeming (except for the Groupon response).
Big fail -

Update as of July 19th, 2011....
I have to admit I thought all the negative reviews were way off on this place and for a while, I was receiving great care from AMD. It started over a year ago when my dentist that was very thorough and professional left to another practice. After that, the hygienist who cleaned my teeth was let go because she didn't work fast enough and chatted with the clients too much. Personally, I like someone with a personality and she too was VERY thorough, explaining every step and made some wonderful suggestions as to products and techniques regarding the care of my teeth. The practice was more concerned about how many people they cranked through the door instead of the care they were given.
Finally, I am an invisilign customer and the process has taken a year more than expected. Sometimes, as in my case, a customer needs refinements after their trays are finished to fine tune the process. This step usually takes about a month to 6 weeks to complete. I was fitted for refinements and was told my new trays would be in 3-4 weeks as they had similarly in the past. I am going on 4 months now, I can't get anyone to return a call after I was promised. I have spoken with a woman named Lynn, Sandra, and a few others that I can't remember and still can't get a call back in regards of when I can expect my trays.
Also, when I signed up, I was promised a professional whitening treatment at the completion of my service only to be told now they send you away with an over the counter take home whitening kit. Not the professional treatment I had expected.
Once, or if, my treatment is ever completed here, I will be moving my dental needs to a new practice. This place seems like they are only into making money and don't seem to care about the clients like they did when they were new. It's a shame, they had great promise...1 Previous Review: Show all »

Their scheduling line is a nightmare and calling the office directly is just as bad. I've been trying to make an appointment here for MONTHS! One time they called and canceled. That's fine - I get scheduling mistakes happen. But I've actually shown up TWICE for two different appointments after that and I've been turned away because they said I wasn't in the books. It doesn't even matter if they call to confirm or if you show up 20 minutes early. All I'm left with is an empty gas tank, less vacation-days, and a bad taste.

WARNING LIVING SOCIAL DEAL BUYERS!!!!
i really really really wish I would have checked this yelp page out before I bought this establishments "deal" on Living Social a few weeks ago....
The deal was $69 for an exam, X-Rays, and a cleaning. I go to the dentist religiously every six months, and have for the last 15 years. As a matter of fact my sister in law has been my hygienist for the last 15 years. This is important for later. Since I've moved to the north side of Chicago and I did not want to drive 40 miles to see my hygienist, along with not having dental insurance. I decided to buy 2 of the Living social deals mentioned above to take care of my teeth cleanings for the next year. I received the X-Rays and the dental exam. The Dentist went tooth by tooth and noticed some "issues" I have with my teeth.... $3,800 worth of issues.... I find it funny that in the last 15 years my sister in law or my regular dentist never told me about $3,800 worth of dental work that needed to be done... I would think that would come up in a regular 6 month appointment over 15 years. I declined the extra services and wanted to move on to the cleaning. The receptionist came into the dental room and showed me the total estimate of work that was recommended and then proceeded to tell me that I needed a $552 scaling done before the hygienist would clean my teeth. I was then brought into another room (about now I felt like I was being sold a car....). The hygienist then basically told me she couldn't clean my teeth until I had the procedure done and that she could do it in halves or fourths. Needless to say I was livid that I bought two of these "deals" just for the cleaning and they were pretty much worthless at this point. So I left the chair and told all of them that their office was a scam, and that the deal was a scam. She refused to give me my cleaning unless I paid $552 for other services. I emailed Living Social and received all of my money back for both deals..... BEWARE OF THIS DENTAL OFFICE.... I have NO DOUBT in my mind that if I walked in there off the street and paid full price for the cleaning that I would have left there with just that.... the cleaning. -

I would give this place one star if I could. I found this place when I was looking to get invisalign. My teeth weren't bad but, I wanted to have some slight imperfections corrected on 2 teeth. So the dentist (I couldn't even tell you which one because a different one saw me each visit) recommended the express kit. There was nothing "express" about it. It took well over a year and my teeth pretty much looked the same. When I complained, I was told that they could "break and reset my jaw". Break and reset my jaw for 2 teeth?!? I think not. So what was the doctor's reply? "Well that's as good as their going to get." That's a GREAT way to keep your customers happy and coming back!!
If you have time and money to waste then maybe this is the place for you. As for me, I'm gladly taking my business elsewhere. -

Two weeks after my review - - AOMD submitted a claim for the X rays taken to my insurer; the claim was approved, reimbursed. AMOD then RE-SUBMITTED the same X rays claim to my insurer two weeks later and was DENIED (thanks to the insurer). After reading the South Loop reviews regarding billings, just wanted to give the Lakeview office props for submitting duplicate insuarance claims. Great business model, hope it pays for the cable tv commericals.
I have notified my insurer denying the duplicate claim was valid and recommend they drop AOMD of the preferred provider listing. Feel free to follow suit with your insurer.Recommend any patients having similar issues to visit the Better Business Bureau website and file formal complaints.
I went to another dentist practice also. Thankfully, this dentist gave me a cleaning (not the magical AOMD "DEEP CLEANING" for $150 out of pocket). There was also no upselling. It's great not having to worry about taking a loan every 6 month checkup.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I had not been to a dentist in over 25 yrs due to a very bad experience that left me terrified of dentist! I was having a problem with one of my teeth and needed to see someone.
Did some reason and saw that that AOMD had the Wand (painless application of numbing medication) and decided to make an appointment with them. Dr. Sirin and the rest of the staff made my visit as stress free as possible and it definitely was not a painful experience. Being one that has no pain threshold I was amazed that I was able to sit through a drilling and feel nothing!
Considering that I had not been to the dentist in such a long time and I told the doctor that up front, I was pleasantly surprised that 1) my teeth were in pretty good shape and 2) the doctor didn't try to tell me I needed a bunch of other stuff beyond what I already knew I needed (my FOL is a recently retired dentist so I knew what I needed before going in).
The service was handled in a very professional and friendly manner, and the overall décor is very nice. Think I have found a practice that I will not be afraid to go :-D
Pain free: yes. Now if they could only do something about that drill sound! -

So this is my first time going to Art of Modern Dentistry. I bought the living social deal for both the cleaning, exam, and x-rays as well as the whitening. The staff there was super friendly. Dr. Daftary was understanding of both my dental health and financial situation and was very accommodating. I had an opportunity to speak with Jason Parke (the owner) who was super nice and really helped me out. The cleaning was superb and my teeth are pearly white now. You guys definitely turned me into a patient for life, thanks again!

I have been going to Art of Modern Dentistry for about 1.5 years for regular cleanings. The actual care seems fine, but the management of the office is horrendous! Yesterday, I received a call confirming my appointment today at noon. So today I showed up about 15 minutes early (like I normally do) and the office wasn't even open. I waited until 12:15 (um, yes, my appointment was at noon) until someone finally opened the doors and basically shrugged saying "we were in a meeting, sorry." Not my problem! I'm paying YOU for a service, so be on time, ok? I had to reschedule at that point because the hygienist wasn't there yet either, so even at 12:15 they weren't ready for me. Totally ridiculous. I spoke with Dr. Daftary and she said "we don't take appointments on Wednesdays until 2pm". So then I asked why I would have received a call confirming my appointment at noon. She had no answer other than to tell me my appointment should not have been booked for noon, which was the time THEY offered me. Then, the icing on the cake was this...I'm 35 weeks pregnant, which I told them 1) when I booked the appointment months ago during my 1st trimester and 2) yesterday when they called to confirm the appointment. I just wanted to make sure it was ok for me to come in. So today the receptionist sees my bump and says "oh, we need an OB consent form". Um, hello? Yesterday on the phone when I told you I was pregnant, maybe you could have mentioned it then. I already had the consent form from a 1st trimester cleaning, but still...really bad that she didn't think to bring that up on the phone vs. waiting until I walked in to the office. Then, Dr. Daftary told me she doesn't like to see patients during the 3rd trimester, she prefers the 2nd trimester. Well, SHE told me a 3rd trimester appointment was fine when I scheduled this appointment months ago. If she didn't want me to come in, all she had to do was tell me that back in June when I made the appointment and was very upfront about being pregnant and my due date. All in all, horrible management. I'm going in for a rescheduled cleaning tomorrow, but that will be my last visit to this place.

Do not go here! Not only are they way overpriced ($350 for a general check up which my insurance only covered half of), both the dentist and the assistant sounded like an infomercial telling you to buy certain toothbrushes, etc. My boyfriend and I went on the same day and they gave us both the same pitch. They make it sound like the are personalizing their advice for you, but don't buy it.
But here's the real reason you should stay away, I only ever had 2 cavities in my life and they told me I needed 7 teeth filled. (You don't even know what the estimate on how much this would be). Since I was skeptical I went to my mom's dentist for my next 6 month appointment and surprise, no cavities! All I needed was some sealant replaced. And my insurance covered all of my check up at my mom's dentist.
After all of that, Art of Modern Dentistry kept calling me and my boyfriend and saying they had to re-schedule appointments we never made. We told them to stop calling and they continued to leave us messages about "re-scheduling."
Like I said, do no go, but If you do, be very careful they are not recommending dental work that you do not need! -

I am just so sick of waiting over 20 minutes just to get into the dentist chair multiple times. I have gotten extensive (over 10 visits) work from both dentists at this location and although my teeth look great, they feel like junk. I do not recommend Art of Modern Dentistry outside of a cleaning.
