Found this little gem in long beach Cali. small wine bar, small plates, small stools, small door, very BIG on people. The owner Stephanie makes you feel like a local.  Great little menu, all on a blackboard, rotation of different wines, this along with about 8 beers and a well balanced cheese and meat selection. Stephanie knows what she serves which speaks hugely of her passion for wine, cheese and meat. It is all prepared while you chat and soak up the place.

within pouring my first selection, she had me figured out and suggested different wines to suit me, she offered small tastes before I decided. this was a great touch. the other patrons were a mix of regulars and people off the street. I enjoyed a great conversation about Seattle, art, dogs, and red vs. white. P.S. long beach people get cold at 60 degrees, Midwesterners do not be alarmed :) just go with it.

During my visit a couple came in asking if she did flights, without missing a beat Stephanie created two flights for the guests and served them quickly with a smile on her face.

if you're looking for a trendy, party pick-up place type, or snobby wine bar please go elsewhere, if you want honest service and a knowledgeable owner, Great conversation, and awesome people, grab a stool and enjoy life at this place. this is the type of place where you can remember why life is worth living.

I'm told the wine selection is great; but, honestly, I don't drink much without bubbles here! What I do know is that the prosecco and champagne here are always great.

Stephanie, the owner, as well as her staff are always lovely. Everyone is friendly and welcoming - and they remember what you like. I enjoy their willingness to guide you toward something they know you will love without being pushy! There's a definite local feel without the unwelcome attitude. It's very laidback for a wine bar, and I appreciate the lack of pretense here.

Also: Always get cheese and hope for honeycomb!

This place is awesome. It's home to my favorite bartenders in Long Beach. I've never had a bad night at ADV. Great wine, great cheese, and a warm pet friendly patio.

Plus, you can take your wine next door to the Art Theatre.

My best friend and I did a local search for wine bars and this was one of the ones that popped up that was open later  on a Tuesday night (the others closed at 10p).

It's very tiny, but enough bar stools inside to maybe fit half a dozen people (I don't know why I don't just say "six"). But there is also patio seating with a heat lamp, that can also fit maybe 10 more people.

The girl at the counter seemed pretty nice. She gave us samples of anything we thought about ordering. Didn't like the first two we sampled (shirazz and a white - can't remember the name), but we ultimately decided on an Australian wine. For the life of me I can't remember what it was called. However, it was a delight! We paired it with a brie-like cheese (also can't remember what it was called). P.S. - Always makes sense to buy a bottle vs a glass.

Closing out took a little bit of a while - as they were taking down some paintings. Wasn't sure if she was doing it intentionally, as I did stand at the register twice.

Art Du Vin is the perfect neighborhood wine bar--even if you don't live in the neighborhood.  What they may lack in square footage and numerous selection, they make up for it with friendly knowledgable staff and outstanding wines and cheeses.

It's quaint and attracts a lot of friendly locals.  We've been to the bar on several occasions and are always impressed with just how friendly everyone is.  Having great wine on hand must help, but be prepared to strike up a conversation with someone new.

Oh, and if you get the chance, ask Stephanie for a game of cribbage.  There are few things nicer than enjoying great wine, tasty cheese, and a fun game of cards.

Judge this wine bar by its size, do you? Well, don't. It may have the square footage of a treehouse, but the carefully sourced wine selection makes up for any misgivings about the likelihood of finding something drinkable.

Wife and I spent half the evening here and were absolutely astounded. Sampled several different wines (Pinot, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Meritage, Zin, maybe something else, I was a little drunk at one point..) and all of them were top notch. And we have very picky (and expensive) tastes.

This isn't a wine snob bar. This is a wine bar for people who want to hang out and drink good wine. You won't find any name-brands or "hot list" wines. Just low-volume, drinking-friendly varietals.

These are, of course, great companions to the rotating cheese and charcuterie menu, and "Steph's Famous Hummus" which is completely deserving of the moniker -- I am a hummus aficionado, and hers is among the best I've had.

The charm in a good wine bar is not just about the quality of their picks, but their service and hospitality as well. And Stephanie delivered in spades. We immediately felt at ease, like we were hanging out at a friend's house for a drink. This sentiment was definitely not our own, either. Of the dozen or more others who came in while we were there, almost all were "regulars."

The best of all is that everything is priced at retail, not at restaurant, so your buck gets a lot of bang. Sure, $13 is a lot to pay for a glass of wine, but not when it's a $50 bottle of high-end Napa Cab.

This place is great, we are new regulars. End of story.

If I could live here I would.

We walk in right around 5 on a Saturday night and are greeted by a cheery woman who is trying to make a big candle out of her small candles. I run off to the restroom and come back to a Cab selection I'm told is "fucking amazing". It was and this is where I know the rest of the night will go amazingly.

We find out the lady with her candles is the owner of this establishment. She tells us about her wines, her business, and within (what seems like) an hour I feel like we're regulars at this wine bar.

She has us try her home-made hummus and tapenade and I'm blown away. But above the stellar wine selection and meat/cheese/homemade dips, it was the regulars that became the cherry on this awesome hot fudge sundae. In the beginning of our night, this big biker guy comes in, asks for a meat and cheese plate and accompanied it with a glass of wine. It broke all the stereotypes in whatever mold I had for a wine bar and/or biker dude and that is where my deep, deep love for Art Du Vin comes in.

Steph knows how to reach to her LB audience no matter who they are. I am coming back and am bringing everyone I know with me. Best. Damn. Wine Bar.

...Please don't make this place super busy because I love knowing I'll have a place to sit on a Saturday night. Please?

Not only is this very conveniently located near me, it's a fun place to hang out, meet new people and enjoy excellent wine and company! The patio has heaters if it's a bit chilly at night, which it was when we went on my birthday a couple of weeks ago with our doggy to enjoy a bottle of wine in celebration. When our bottle was finished, I received a complimentary glass of champagne (was told usually a bottle is popped to celebrate, but as it was a Monday night, there weren't quite enough people for that - which was fine with me, I was happy to receive such a delicious surprise!).

Stephanie was fun to chat with and was super sweet to our dog, which is extremely important to me because if we are going to go out for dinner or drinks, we always prefer to patronize businesses that are dog-friendly.

I had a wonderful birthday and our evening at the wine bar was certainly a highlight. Thanks!!!

It's an OK place to go for a drink, but...
Maybe we caught her on a bad day...her pooch was outside barking - which she said was unusual.  When we walked in she asked us what we'd like - while we looked over the menu she didn't give us any tips/suggestions or ask us what types of wines we like.  Or maybe I'm just a wine bar snob.  But typically when we go to wine bars we get recommendations and some insight into the wine we're ordering.

Also, not really a fan of being so close to traffic zooming by.

There was only one other guy at the bar - so maybe if there had been more people/it was later we would've had a better experience, but I prefer the other wine bar down the street.

Very cozy little wine bar and by little I mean, really small small. I'm definitely becoming a fan of this place.

Nicely selected wine and amazing friendly vibe from the staff.

Although, this place could use a bit more square footage, it is perfect for an intimate time with your honey.

OK, So, I've fallen in love with this little wine bar.

The prices are fair and the ambiance is cool.

Although its quite small, they have a bit of outdoor seating with barstools, tables and heat lamps. It is the ideal spot socializing and eating cheese before the real 4th street drinking begins.

The staff was also very informative, friendly and accommodating.

I will definitely be back soon!

What can I say? I have been a regular at this gem of an establishment for quite some time (years). I am not a connoisseur or anything, but I know what tastes good to the palette, and it doesn't break my wallet; reasonable considering the high quality.

I always feel welcomed regardless of what I may be wearing, the patrons are friendly, and the staff is top notch; Shauntelle, Damian and Julia are quite knowledgeable and friendly. The owner, Stephanie is warm, and witty.  It is not rare to catch Stephanie playing cards, dominoes, or a board game with some of the patrons or regulars. The vibe in and around this place is one of community.

I love that I can come in by myself and know that I will always have a pleasant evening. I credit the wine with the inspiration its given me while I've worked on certain school projects ( I do this before the crowd comes in).I meet interesting people, have stimulating conversation, and enjoy some of the best wine selection in town hands down. The cheese and meat plates along with honey and bread are delish!

The potlucks every first Sunday are a hit and anyone can come and partake. The last one was a Bruschetta themed potluck...amazing.

I can go on and on about this place...but I won't. If you are in Long Beach and you enjoy fine wine, then this spot is a must for you.

This green eyes says do yourself a favor and get the Green Eyes.

It would be a five star spot all the way if it were just slightly more spacious.  Even though another wine bar in town has stolen my heart (and my equilibrium), this place is a shorter stumble home.

I decided to give Art Du Vin a try one night with a good friend of mine after we'd given up on squishing into some of the bars on 4th street. We both love wine, and I'd been meaning to stop by sometime, so I thought we'd check it out.

The wine was great, and our bartender was friendly. She let us try different wines until we found one we liked, and was very hospitable. I can't say I've got any complaints about Art Du Vin, but it definitely doesn't have the same welcoming atmosphere that District Wine does.

The crowd that was in the wine bar when we walked in all seemed to know each other, and sort of kept to themselves for the most part, so it almost seemed a little click-ish. They appeared to already be good friends with the bartender too, so it was a little bit awkward at times for the two of us newbies. However, that was the only part of our experience that I felt was a little bit off. It's a very cute place, the hosts are friendly, and the wine is good. :)

I think I will have to go back again sometime to see if I have a different experience. It's always good to try something twice.

Art Du Vin offers a kind of classiness without the arrogance you can find in a lot of wine bars. This hot spot has most definitely become one of my go-to places in Long Beach and I rave about it to my friends and any one visiting from out of town.

This is the perfect spot to catch up with old friends and make new ones since so many people keep coming back to enjoy the selection and the service. It's common that my gal and I will stop in for a glass of wine before a movie or after dinner to wind down. The newly added patio has just about double to space making more elbow room in their cozy location right next to the Art Theatre.

For the wine, the service and the overall experience Art Du Vin is definitely as good as it gets.

Well ya' know a place is good when you keep going back after giving it a bad review. I wont lie we would still rather go to District Wine, but we go in to see Damien the Bartender more than anything.

I had to update my review because it is no longer relevant.

I have noticed a different vibe at Art Du Vin. The owner seems to have chilled out and there is starting to be a little family vibe...very nice. I am forgiving as i can see the efforts to be inviting and friendly.  I can respect that.

...so in short, "yay, im a fan"

Art du vin is fabulous! This place is one of my favorites for many reasons.. First up, killer wine list. The rotate new wines on a regular basis, all which tend to be quite good. The staff is super friendly and helpful as you make your wine choices. While full plates are not available, typically they have some wine, cheese, and honey on-hand. The ambiance is perfect. really a nook of shop with a nice patio on fourth street. All the fellow patrons tend to be really friendly, so one could come here accompanied or solo. There are no vulture-type men or fake women, so major plus! They also rotate art exhibits on their walls. Cool place for a chill night on the town :)

Hurray for Art du Vin. We really needed another nightspot on 4th besides Portfolio. The street was waaaay too quiet after 5pm, and a wine bar gives us an excuse to hang around before and after movies. I also like this place because it helps support the new Art Theatre, because lets face it, too many of our historical buildings and landmarks are being torn down in Long Beach (thank you, city government, for taking away Acres of Books).

So, those are the pluses. The minuses: Art du Vin, in my opinion, has not yet found its legs. The appetizer selection is a little thin and a little over-priced. I'd rather see more substantial items for that price, or else offer up cheaper cheese and cracker plates to go with the wine.

I've enjoyed the wine I've had there. And the servers are very cool, very friendly. However, let it be known that this is an extremely tight spot, with a prominent security camera, so both your conversation and your mug will be obserevd! NOT a good place to have an intimate conversation about your love life. Ahem. Lesson learned.

There is not a single thing that I do not love about this place. Steph ( the owner) is lovely. The wine selection is amazing, the cheese platter calls me in the middle of the night and begs me to come and eat it. However, the thing that I love the most about this place is the people that work there (Damien is sexy hot), Callipe is charming and she is teaching me Italian. Steph definitely has a way of picking the perfect people to work the wine bar. Art Du Vine also attracts the most open, friendly, and fun to be around people in Long Beach. If I could give more stars I would! ************************************************** ***********************

Saturday night we were poking around 4th st and we decided to stop in at Art du Vin. It's really a cool little spot.  The gentlemen working that night Damien is a sweetheart, he's very knowledgeable... the man knows his wines.  We had a great conversation with him he seems to know a lot about a wide variety of subjects which is always great.

Now onto the wine... since really that's the point of the review  ;)
I was looking for a good white wine since it was a warm evening.... of course the name Dionysus popped out at me. I was happy that it also happened to be a good white wine, it has passionfruit and tropical fruit aromas.  The boyfriend had  a red wine Tierra del Fuego also very good.

We got there a bit late, infact I think the place closes at 9pm, but Damien let us stay and have 2 glasses of wine and since we were unable to partake in the appetizers, he gave us a bit of bread with some really nice EVOO and vinegar.

I'm thinking we will make this one of our spots. After all "I promised I would drown myself in mystic heated wine..."

Best described as the 'Central Perk' for oenophiles and wine-o-holics alike, Art Du Vin is your best bet for a wine-bar experience in Long Beach south of Downtown.  Not only is it stocked with small-to-modest production wines, but the focus of each season's tasting list is always on the palette.  These are wines you can introduce to a non-wine drinking friend to introduce them to the world of wine...or to just to get them a little wine-headed in ADV's welcoming cafe-like setting.

On any given night you'll find an inviting mix of regulars, walk-in passers-by, and patrons from the movie-theater next door.  It's a great place for wine, conversation, and the good life.  The owner and staff are warm, knowledgeable, tasteful, and engaging.  It's often hard to tell who's working and who's there to relax : everyone's having a good time.  Still, despite this laid-back social nature of the place, service is generous and top-notch from everyone who works there, owner and staff alike.

If you're near Retro-row, there really isn't another wine-experience worth having.  You won't find a winebar on par with the experience ADV can provide for several blocks... So drop in, have a glass, and say hi !

The second visit (the other night) was great!  My oh my, the Sangria is delish!!!  I heard angels singing when I took my first sip that's how good it is.  I had to go back two days later to get another fix.  The best part?  They remember you and remember what you had!  How effin fab is that?  Yes, I do believe I have found my new favorite wine bar!

This is not only my favorite wine bar in Long Beach, it's my favorite secret spot to socialize. It's a quaint place that 4th street locals flock, however, I never leave without meeting a new face. Their cheese and honeycomb plates are my favorite on the menu and the staff can always tell you all about their uniqueness.

It's independently owned by an irresistible gal with a sense of sass and wit that alone made me fall in love with the place. Since I fell in love, I'm a regular and she runs a tight staff on warm welcomes, smiling faces and interesting things to talk about.

Such a great experience.  Let me start with my reaction to the space itself.  Intimate, and tastefully decorated with a clean, minimalist, yet warm demeanor.  Beautiful art on the walls - Eon Burchman I think.  And, the lighting is perfect.  I don't think they could have done any better with the space they had.

As far as wine goes, I had the Tempranillo.  It was dynamite.  My girlfriend had the Cab, which she said was also very good.  Based on the consistency in our experiences, I'm going to make a generalization and say that their entire wine selection is well picked and worthy of your senses.

Everyone that worked there was very warm and friendly.  This quality in particular really completes the character of Art du Vin.

A limited snack menu would be a great addition.  Although Kate P's review notes cheese and meats.  So, maybe I just overlooked the snacks.

I can't wait to go back!!!

We popped in last night because we actually had to wait for a table across the street at Lola's (I know, I've never had to wait for a table there either).  So what better way to kill 15-20 minutes than with a glass of wine.  My only gripe about the place is that it is tiny.  There were a handful of people there that were obviously regulars and they gladly included us in their conversation.  Somehow we got into the conversation of how to tell your cleaning lady not to use bleach en espanol.  The best asset of this place is the engaging hostess behind the counter.  I asked for a white wine (sweet for my sweetie, and full bodied for me).  She poured two tastes and they were YUMMY!  We sipped, laughed and then went off to dinner.  I need to yelp that one next...

We went back to Art du Vin after dinner and had another glass of the sweeter white, while I tried a fantastic cabernet.  She asked me what we had for dinner and paired it nicely.  It felt like sitting at one of your cool friend's house somewhere other than Long Beach.

I'm ranking this as one of my new favorite hang-outs for when I'm tired of the coffee house crowd.  Good location, Great Wine, and the sassy barmaid that makes it all worth the trip!

Such a great little spot to have a glass of wine before seeing a movie at the Art Theater...

What a quaint, cozy, sleek wine bar!  I'm not a wine geek but since the BF is, I try to indulge his passion.  We've gone to a few different places, but this one is the smallest and best thus far.  The ambiance is unpretentious, like a lot of other wine bars.  The variety and selections were more numerous and interesting.  And the service was very pleasant.  The cashier/bartender (Damien) was really helpful and nice.

They offered 5 different white wines, 5 different red wines and a couple of other interesting wines by the glass.  They also offer a small tapas-style/fromage menu.  The prices are very decent!  We did 3 flights at $7 per flight.  What a great deal!  You don't need to be a wine geek to know that's real value.

I do wish they had more comfortable stools but they'll do for short visits.

Overall, great experience, really good wine, and great service.

I thought this place was fabulous.  It's very intimate and beautifully decorated.  The wine selection is wonderful, the cheeses and meats looked great.  It is the PERFECT place to go after a movie at the gorgeous Art Theater and discuss what you saw.  I also HIGHLY recommend it as a nice location to take a date.  I felt like I was in Paris.

    Fabulous!

    Cozy, fun, upscale yet friendly.

Art du Vin is always a blast. Like most wine bars, their selection changes every few weeks and they serve the obligatory variety of cheeses and meats (along with a delicious hummus that is, surprise, home made!)

Where Art du Vin really shines is it's staff. Friendly and knowledgeable, and always interested in striking up a conversation (which is usually about film since they are connected to the art theater and it's patrons are often the same). Strangers end up being friends after a glass or two, and everyone ends up in one big conversation.

By yourself, or with a date, Art du Vin should be added to your regular Long Beach rotation... Unless you are a real bummer. I wouldn't want you destroying the awesome vibe of this joint.

I first walked into Art du Vin on a whim almost a year ago.  Some friends and I took a chance on it after coming up short on finding a place to get a few beers after an event down the street... and as soon as we set foot inside we realized we'd found someplace special.

First and foremost, credit goes to Stephanie, the bar's owner and now one of my dear friends; she creates an ambiance in that space that inspires interaction and enjoyment no matter what your mood or appetite may be.  As soon as we had our seats, we were treated to surprisingly delicious wine and appetizers, and to Stephanie's full attention.  She didn't feel like a server, but instead like another member of our party across the table.  We spent the entire night chatting, laughing, and enjoying the moment we found ourselves in.

    It's like that every time.

The space itself is such that you have no choice but to befriend everybody else in attendance.  Even though the interior is designed with seating that faces dining surfaces around the perimeter of the room, all seats invariably turn inward and the night's patrons join a communal pow-wow of conversation and game-play.  You are almost as likely to be asked by strangers to partake in a round of Scattergories or Scrabble as you are to be asked what your wine preference is.

I'm not what you'd call a wine connoisseur, but I'm definitely a wine enthusiast; while I can enjoy a cheap bottle of grocery store wine with friends, I can also appreciate the complexity and nuance of a great wine.  Steph takes great care in selecting which wines she sells, and derives a pleasure out of finding examples of particular styles of a wine that don't necessarily fit into the categories they should, e.g., her house merlot doesn't taste like a run-of-the-mill merlot.

Stephanie has assembled an excellent staff, all of whom I'm happy to call my friends.  They're knowledgeable yet approachable, and are as dedicated to maintaining the place's unpretentious atmosphere as Stephanie is herself.  There's no air of exclusion in this bar; it feels like a trip to a friend's beautiful and well-stocked kitchen.  A kitchen with local art on the walls and a satisfied family celebrating after a holiday dinner.

A partnership with the adjacent Art Theater of Long Beach makes for some very fun nights; a ticket to a showing will save you a buck or two on a bottle of wine that you can then take into the theater and enjoy at your seat.  Also, with the recent addition of a seated patio, the bar's occupancy has effectively doubled; you can now enjoy your wine and food within arm's reach of the mystique of 4th Street.  This place is growing and I couldn't be happier for it.

While I'd love to keep this place my little secret, I'd be doing an injustice to it not to share it with everyone I know.  Art du Vin is a unique and special part of 4th Street, and you will not regret paying a visit.

The atmosophere was nice but the girl behind the counter was super rude. She was curt and neglected to wash a pile of wine glasses behind the counter. I was really unimpressed. The District is a better choice.
