The Deco Ghetto managed to get its own entry in the Chronicle's online neighborhood guide, and an article in AAA's Via Magazine--not bad for a rather derelict two-block stretch of Market St whose claim to fame is a few retro furniture shops. Trouble is, both those publications are woefully outdated, as they mention at least 3 shops which have closed or moved, and they left out what is easily the centerpiece of the whole shebang--Art Deco Collection, home to some kick-ass bars, desks, chandeliers, luggage sets, Artemis statues, and one of those uber-classy radio cabinets--just the thing for when President Obama brings back the Fireside Chats (fingers crossed on both counts).
Whether you're a deco freak or merely curious, and whether or not you've got hundreds or thousands of dollars to drop, it's certainly worth a visit and definitely the first stop you should make--if for no other reason than the owner will be happy to give you some accurate info on what other shops are still alive and kickin' here in the DG (cuz let's face it, even Yelp will hardly avail you for that purpose).Listed in: Hayes Valley & Mid-Market

We had our 1920's sofa and chair totally reupholstered by Art Deco Collection and were wow'd with ultra-cool results. Done in watery blue and gold mohair it was exactly what we wanted. They even made us an extra cushion for making forts and covering up spills. It was not cheap but the quality was outstanding and well worth it.

If you're into Art Deco like I am, you're going to dig this place. A cool selection of everything from furtniture to art and clocks, it has a variety of goodies to adorn your home. If you don't like what you see, keep checking back - you'll never know what you'll find!
You can also preview their stock on their website. -

I had my eye on a chandelier that was in this store for ages and ages. I stalked it online and would peek in the store every time I drove by to see whether it was still there. Finally, tempted by a storewide sale that was just too good to pass up, I bought it. It's now hanging in our stairwell looking fabulous. The purchase process was very easy and the owner was really helpful in explaining the challenges of hanging it. He offered to guide us through the process if we had any questions (we didn't). The customer service here is top notch and if you get on their mailing list they send out announcements for sales on a fairly regular basis. Don't be put off by the desolate section of Market street or the pristine nature of the store - it's a really cool place to visit even if you're not specifically in the market for deco antiques.

Beautiful examples of sleek art deco! Just hope this place remains a long time (until I can afford them)!
