I have previously written a stellar review for this little family-run neighborhood cleaners. But they have outdone themselves once again. I accidently swung my brand new light-colored lavender neck scarf in greasy bright orange pizza grease (as I was serving slices to kids). I immediately tried to get it out myself by soaking and spay-n-wash, and it didn't budge. Sure that I had ruined the scarf--and possibly even made it worse by setting the stain, I took it to Art Cleaners as a last resort. It was not one, but several big greasy stains--and now the scarf looks brand new! I'm amazed and I continue to highly recommend them! wb

Very disappointing . I live in Cole Valley and really wanted to work with this dry cleaner to support the businesses in my neighborhood. Unfortunately each time I've gone there I can't believe how low the quality their service is.
It looks so nice and clean from the outside, they seem so pleasant and efficient - until you go over what you've brought them and point out what wasn't completed professionally, then you get the dirty looks and they explain how really it's your fault.
Examples:
- I was going on a trip to the vintage shows in Miami, so brought them several 1950 and 1960 vintage dresses - they came back all torn. What? They were all purchased in perfect condition - they explained it with no apology just with a shrug. They did glue the shredded fabric back together, but really all the dresses were ruined. They still charged me, I paid out of respect but older and wiser now I should have refused.
- I brought them two bankets and one thick Lutz and Putmas cardigan in black for dry cleaning. I got my sweater back and it had lots of long course white hairs on it. What? Bought it back showed the owner, she said it was my fault because the bankets had hairs on it and she cleaned it all "in the same bag" so it was from me. We don't have dogs, the banket isvnot woven with hairs of any type, really? She did it over but I still can not believe how outrageous her response was.
- My last experiance ever - I brought in a garment that needed a new pocket sewn in because the orginal pocket was sewn too short. I explained this to the owner to see if she could just cut out the old pocket and make a new pocket the same length as the other side. She said fine - got it back and it was a totally different fabric, different shape as the other pocket and was the same short length. What? Pointed it out, she was very annoyed, no apology and redid it.
So sad my neighborhood cleaner is not the best, thankfully I can go to Locust Cleaner on Sacramento Street- they are the best. -

Art Cleaners ruined 7 dress shirts, and then denied any responsibility. I have been a customer for many years. Several months ago I noticed that two of my shirts had tears on the left arms, and brought it to the owner's attention. He claimed that it was my fault, due to leaning on my elbows. At that time, I didn't quite believe that was the case, but figured that it was only a fluke, since I never had problems before. Then I picked up my latest batch of laundry - 8 shirts - and 5 more of them had the exact same tear on the left sleeves! When I returned with these 5 shirts the owner again completely denied that it was happening during the cleaning process, blamed me for leaning on my elbow (not even possible; most of these shirts were on the newer side) and finally, after arguing about it for fifteen minutes he said he would reimburse me $100 (total) for all the damage. Of course, I will NEVER return to this cleaner! BUYER BEWARE - - - CHECK YOUR CLEANING BEFORE AND AFTER IF YOU USE THIS CLEANER.

In just a little over 2 years in San Francisco, my wife and I have done a lot of business with Art Cleaners. They're not 100% perfect (seems like no matter what dry cleaner I use, whether in NYC or SF, a button will occasionally get damaged), but they're very, very solid.
Never have I been given a bottle of wine (and pretty good one) at Christmas time by a dry cleaner. But that was a pleasant surprise last holiday. And they thanked me and wished me well on a move away from San Francisco earlier this month.
Good service, good folks. -

Wow, I can't believe anybody has yelped about this yet.
They do a very very good job; get the strangest and most persistent stains out and are always on time. Run by a super friendly Korean couple always with a smile on their faces.
It is two blocks off the main Cole Valley 'strip' but it's worth to walk over there....
4 stars bec it is a little on the expensive side. -

It's the neighborhood dry cleaners! Yay!
I have no basis for comparison with the other joints down on Cole Street, but based on cleaners in other cities, these guys are above average. Service is fantastic, and a reason alone to go. I've seen the same pair behind the counter twice, and they were totally patient with me (I really don't visit the cleaners that often) both times.
As mentioned in other reviews, Art's is cash-only. Bummer.
Service isn't totally on the money. I attached a loose button with a shirt and explained that I wanted it sowed back on the shirt. I get my shirt back to discover that they ignored the button I included, and removed the bottom-most, non-spare button from my shirt instead. Why do this? I couldn't button my shirt right. Whatever. I brought it back and they fixed it on the spot. Yay. -

overall: its a dry cleaners. you'll notice that most peoples' positive reviews are based on the observation that the employees are not jerks (which maybe is commonplace for dry cleaners??) or that its in proximity to Cole Valley.
WARNING: the reason for writing this review is to warn all people coming - THEY WILL WRITE YOUR NAME INSIDE YOUR GARMENT WITH PERMANENT MARKER. Not a big deal, say if its not a particularly special piece of clothing, or you will always button up your shirt - but today I got a shirt back, and they wrote "ZACH" on the inside of the front flap at the bottom... so whenever my shirt bottom flips up a bit or i wear it unbuttoned, i have a nice lil' unwanted name-tag.
So, go ahead, bring in your dirties to Art Cleaners - but remember to tell them not to write your name in permanent marker on your garment should you care. -

Art Cleaners is a god-send. They're your best bet in Cole Valley for reliable, friendly service. Unlike other cleaners in my neighborhood, they've never told me to come back due to unfinished work, and the owners recognized me by sight after just two visits!
They're very fairly priced; I'm not sure what kind of service the other reviewer had done to make her think they're overpriced, but that's kind of subjective anyway. Bottom line, they're a great small business, and we need more of them in San Francisco. They'll have my patronage for a long time, yet. -

This place has everything you need from a dry cleaner. Fast, dependable service, nice owners, don't return your tuff with new problems, and even have sewn on buttons for me without asking. Been going here for more than 15 years and never had a problem. Big plus - there is a parking spot out front.

Art Cleaners is simply the best. Whether under-promising and over-delivering with my rushed dry-cleaning (ready today any time after 6, but ready when I called at 4), saying no problem when I forgot my checkbook, or just being the nicest people around, Art Cleaners is reliable, fast, friendly and personal. They are reasonably priced and provide the best dry-cleaning experience I have had.

They only take cash, which isn't too bad as long as you remember that before you get there! Service is friendly, prices are great.

Art's Cleaners provide a highly exceptional service that I still drive to them even though I moved to the other side of the town. They're people-friendly, superb service, and very green. They handled everything I've given at them: from dry cleaning an "Emporio Armani" two-piece suit to sewing a button on my double-breasted "Banana Republic" jacket. The best part of the experience is that you're always service with a smile on their faces.

I've been a customer for years. Great folks, great service. Good for tailoring too.
Agree they are a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for -

It's my go-to cleaners because it's the closest to home and the people are friendly, but they are about 10-25% more expensive than other cleaners I've used and quality is no better. Nice people and decent job on the basics, but overpriced.
