I originally attended art school for Oil Painting, but in the end I graduated with a BFA in design. In recent years I've longed to get back to my easel and much to my enjoyment I have found myself with some extra time and the perfect place to reconnect with my artistic side and other creative individuals.

The Art Academy of San Diego is a wonderful space where I have been able to brush up on my painting skills by taking classes with other professionals and artists of all levels of skill.  Recently I took an abstract painting class with Reed Cardwell and a Mosaic class with Lauren Becker Downey, both are impressive and accomplished artists that are down-to-earth, helpful and very inspiring.  This space has provided a supportive place for creative growth and an accessible studio for me to work at.

The Art Academy of San Diego is truly an extraordinary opportunity for any individual who wishes to explore the creative arts!

Check out many of the artists and students that attend classes here at the upcoming "Evening in the East Village" Friday, Feb. 29th 5-9pm.  The businesses in the East Village will be throwing their doors open with food, drink and art!

This school is a fabulous resource for the art community. They offer  classes in painting and drawing,  printmaking, sculpture, jewelry, stained glass and mosaic for beginners and professional artists. The Art Academy offers 1-day workshops and 7- and 14-week classes. Because there is no degree offered and there are no grades, the pressure is off and it's just fun! Think of the school as your own art studio. It's a large facility with several studios for each medium. Students get to keep their art supplies in a locker. And don't forget the great 10% discount given to students at Blick Art Materials, on India Street or 15% off for students of the Art Academy at www.dickblick.com/blickU

For those of you who think you can't even draw a straight line, there are fun 1-days workshops where you can learn a simple technique and take home a completed project... Choose from Mosaic, Watercolor Botanical, Metal Collage, Abstract Painting, Painted Furniture, Floor Cloth, and more.

Don't forget the Open Studio for Life Drawing and Painting on Tuesday nights and Saturday morning. Only $10 for 3 hours with the model. No preregistration, no instruction. Very cool!

Inside the school, there is a gallery that exhibits a variety of contemporary Art. SimaySpace shows everything from the Faculty Show to the Annual Student Exhibition to art from Doug Simay's private collections to some cutting edge work from nationally known or  regional artists.

Call for a free catalog or visit the website to see the choices of courses available to you.

All kinds of people attend this school with ongoing art classes. Don't miss this opportunity to get creative!
