While I may not have the names of everyone that has helped me on our thankfully few visits, I can say that this entire hospital and it's staff has grown and evolved with our community. I truly appreciate that we have this facility and it's caring staff so close at hand.

After returning to the Central Coast as an adult, I was first re-acquainted with Arroyo Grande Community Hospital -- a Catholic Healthcare West Hospital -- when my husband came down with a severe stomach illness nine years ago. His case was handled swiftly, efficiently and with a caring staff, despite the late hour. I truly appreciated their attention and the fact that they allowed us to stay with him and kept us fully-informed.

Since then I have had a handful of reasons to visit Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, and I have to say that each time it has been as pleasant as a hospital experience can be ... From blood tests for my pregnancy to most recently visiting with my mom after my son gave us both sinusitis and subsequent ear and eye infections... we found no matter what time of day, or what day of the week, there was virtually no wait and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff every step along the way.

I must also say that when my mom had to visit because of a heart condition that we had yet to determine, the staff understood that this was scary for her and her family, and we were continually updated on her condition and reassured by caring triage, nurses, doctors and lab technicians. As I mentioned before, the experience was as  pleasant as this kind of experience can be, and I thank the entire staff at AGCH for their skill, efficiency, attentiveness and empathy.

I am glad that I have this hospital to recommend and refer to my clients relocating to the Central Coast and I hope we, as a community, continue to support it in it's future endeavors.

The last time that I was in the hospital with my (at the time 19 month old daughter (4/811, in case AG Hospital sees this and wants to check their records for accuracy), I was treated horrendously.

Background: I brought my daughter in for extreme abdominal pain. She had been screaming on and off all day, and at this time for 2 hours straight. We live two blocks away from the hospital, and I had to hold her down in the backseat so we could drive there because she was in so much pain.

When we arrived, I explained the situation to the admitting attendant and they promptly put us in the triage room, but were adamant about about stripping her down and putting her on the baby scale. The nurse at that time turned to me and said in a snarky tone " Can't you get her to stop screaming? What, are her clothes digging into her or something?" She then grabbed my daughter out of my hands and put her on the scale.

They then put us in the room, told us to keep her with only her diaper on, and wait for the doctor. The nurse that asked us for our insurance information came in, and I told her I didn' want that nurse to be handling my daughter. Her reply wasn't a nice "can you tell me why." but she snapped at me with a "why's that." I don't think I should have to justify myself, but I explained it to her anyways.

In the room, it was freezing, no blankets, the door shut (because they didn't want to hear her, and she was screaming and shivering While I tried to comfort her. They left us this way for at least 20 minutes.

The doctor came in and had obviously never worked with a child in his life. He ordered an x-ray on her, yada yada, and two hours later, came in and said he thought she might have twisted intestines or a blockage that he can't see, and that there is nothing he can do about it, but that it has to work it out, like a kink, and we should see our pediatrician in the morning. Big-FAT- Waste-OF-Time.

When we got home, I thought, hrm- I'm going to give her some pureed prunes... see how she likes those and settle her stomach. Guess what. She was just full of s*%t. That was the one conclusion the doctor didn't even think of! Can you believe that?

Now I can go on about the time I had to pick up my grandma and take her from AG ER to Sierra Vista, or the time that they had to take my Grandpa from AG to French, or the time my Grandpa had sat in urine from 2am until 11am because not one nurses had checked on him. But those are all stories for another day.

PS: If you want something done right, go see the Administration immediately. Don't even waste your time complaining to the head nurse. Also, see my AWESOME review of the AG Rehabilitation center and the CHW French Hospital Birth Center. CHW goes right in some places!

Very cute, nice, but small COMMUNITY hospital.  ER, tele/med surg, IR, OR, ICU.

Med Surg Nurse Manager is insanely nice and informative.

This hospital truly seems to care about the community.  They do events to give back such as free flu shots, cancer screening, mammograms, etc.  They also give medical equipment such as glucometers to those in need.  They are part of Catholic Healthcare West, which is committed to giving back to the community.

There were lots of volunteers here as well.  Overall vibe was very positive and friendly.

I was not a patient here so I cannot comment on patient service.

Hospital is decent enough -- if small, even for the area. I wouldn't have a reason to complain if Blue cross -- Blue Shield weren't so terrible and the hospital wasn't completely incapable of proper billing. If I could avoid both this hospital and BCBS for the rest of my life I'll be happy. F this place and F every insurance company out there.

Also, as far as giving back goes, a screening is just another way to get people in. Once they start giving out free treatments I'll be impressed. F charities that merely funnel money into a larger company.
