As my husby pointed out...it was delicious! I ordered the petite filet cooked medium (were I not preggers I'd order it medium rare style).  The garlic mash was a great addition to our meal and the sauteed spinach was not over done and mushy. You have to have your veggies in there somehow :)
And now for the pies de resistance, the souffle. Since I couldn't get the grand marnier we opted for the chocolate. You can't go wrong with a little bit of chocolate love. Yum! Make sure you order it ahead of time. It takes about 45 minutes to prepare. We topped off our dessert with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and a cup of decaf coffee. What a perfect ending to a phenomenal meal with extraordinary service.
We will be seeing more of them in the near future.

The beef was all business.

Seriously, they don't mess around here. The steaks were so good. SO GOOD. ;) I tried the filet mignon, lamb chop, prime rib, and new york steak. All were friggin juicy and tender. I mean, they must have physically abused the cows to get the meat that soft. Sauces were interesting, but not necessary. We also had three sides: scalloped potatoes (yum), french string beans (gotta have the veggies), and creamed spinach (meh).

Service was excellent for the most part, but I gotta knock it down a star for one uptight hostess answering the phones. She refused to hold our reservations for more than 15 min, saying it was already packed and the tables were all booked that night. We arrived 30 min late, stressed that we might have to go somewhere else, but the restaurant was less than 25% full. We got seated right away. -__-

Tips: Order the souffle in advance to avoid ~40 min cook time.

....so good im speechless!   If there was ever a time that beef could ever get me horny, this was it!  And the chocolate souffle was superb!
Well worth the $39.00 for a  40 day aged porterhouse for me and a petite 40day aged filet mignon for the wife I think hers was $30 bucks or so, garlic mash potatoes and spinach OH MY GOD!!!!  Let there be beef!!!!  The service is top notch and everyone greets you with a hearty hello, no wonder its pricey.  Also valet parking attendents are very professional, with no attempts of silly burnouts when they drive your car away to park it.  They take care of your ride.  I recomend this place to anyone that appreciates beef like my wife and I do.  Ruth's Chris was "GOOD" but this place is "FREAKING GREAT!!!"

Probably the worst "nice" steakhouse I've been to in SoCal.  I ordered the New York (medium) and it was so tough I could barely cut through it, let alone chew.  I sent it back and although the replacement steak was better, it still wasn't good.  I think I can make better steak at home with some Lawry's seasoning and a George Foreman Grill.  (I'm not joking).  Just a disappointing experience all around.

My boyfriend brought me here for our anniversary.

Our server recognized my bf right away, since he used to work nearby.  Always a plus.  Of course, I ordered the ribeye, which was juicy and tender.  My bf had the filet, which looked just as good.  Our sides were potatoes and spinach.  They were okay, but our experience at Fleming's Steakhouse was better.

Table service was immaculate.  People were always coming by to switch the silverware and flatware, to level our glasses, and to clear away anything unneeded.  We had a nice, leisurely dinner.

At the end of the night, I was really content.  Perfect anniversary dinner location.

If I could, I would have given a 4.5.

Considering that my date was identical to Napoleon, I was seduced to not enjoy myself.

We were able to take reservations twenty minutes prior to dinner.

Typical chop house menu.  Sad to say, the fish selection was slim pickings...they only had baked salmon.

Service was great.  He had a Makers Mark, me a glass of Cabernet.  Waitress suggested it, but, I couldn't grab on to the name quick enough.  I really wanted to jot it down...it was dry and oakey.  Very nice..only one glass though...

We had the oysters as an appetizer.  Very slippery.  Make sure you use the horseradish.

Choice of either soup or salad-I chose salad-blue cheese, Nickie C's has a better salad.

Petite fillet was really dry when ordered med rare.  Took a long time to   serve from the kitchen.  I noticed another table sending there steak back...the chef came out with a second steak and watched the man until given approval to leave....

Mountain mushrooms, yuck...JP's are far better.

Garlic mashed potatoes were very creamy but once cold, they dried up.

I use to love this place, but I'm not too sure about it any more.

The ratings here speak for themselves.

Whats good:
- Prime Rib
- Porterhouse for 2
- Filet Mignon
- Caralmelized Sweet Corn
- Chocolate Souffle
- NY Cheesecake

You can sit outside on a chilly night cuz they have heaters. Problem is that the heaters are blasting so high that you feel like you're getting cooked.

They gave my sister flowers for her birthday too! Very nice place for special occasions. If you're coming here alot....then you just damn rich.

Make reservations. They do get extremely busy.

This place is by far my favorite steak house..  The filet mignon is always perfectly prepared.  I always have it with French green beans and a side of mash potatoe.  But the high light of the meal is really the Grand Marnier
souffl.

I give it a 4 star because it can really get noisy here.

great food service and atmosphere. I enjoyed my first experience at this chop house. I really like the laid back setting and liked it more than Ruths Chris and Lawry's.

I guess it takes time to really check the spots out before determining a favorite. I will def return to Arroyo Chop house.

Used to be my favorite neighborhood steakhouse, before I moved away... keep on driving right past that giant Houston's and hand the keys to the valets.  You'll be in good hands, I promise.

Love the atmosphere - it's that mix of old school class with a touch of CA contemporary just to remind you that you're not at the Dal Rae.

I would take off one star for not serving my steak "flame-kissed" as requested, which means it should have a maximum of 3mm of sear around the outside.  They always send it to me rare - I like it RAW.  BUT, the meat is dry-aged tender so I am going to let that slide.  I understand that this is not easy, having overcooked many steaks myself.  Only Chicago Prime has executed this request to perfection.

If you like thick, fat, juicy steaks like I do, you must check out Arroyo Chop House! It's a bit pricey, but so worth it, especially if someone else treats you. To start off, I had the beef tenderloin tartare. It was tasty, but this appetizer didn't have enough ciabatta toast for me to eat all the tartare. (Actually to start off, I had some Cabernet, but I'm here to talk about the food :)

For my entree, I ordered the Cowboy Ribeye (aka bone-in-ribeye), which was exquisite! It is super fatty but so delicious and juicy. I recommend ordering this medium. The yelp picture does not do any justice for its ginormous size. I am a petite Asian girl, but I can throw it down like a man and eat my steak! I almost ate all of it, but was starting to get full after eating the sides: fresh carmelized sweet corn, sauteed mountain mushrooms, and garlic mash potatoes. The sides are good, but nothing special. You need to order them though since the steaks are all a-la-carte.

The main reason why I didn't finish my steak was to save room for...dessert of course! We had not one, but two souffles: chocolate and grand marnier. I initally preferred the chocolate, but grand marnier has a nice sweet kick to it. It's not too sweet though and definitely not super rich like the chocolate. I highly recommend both desserts if you have enough room to eat them.

Kinda surprised to see this place get negative reviews.

The prime rib is by far the best I've ever had.. and I've tried prime rib at just about every major steakhouse in LA.

Haven't tried much else on the menu but the people I go with always throughly enjoy what they order.

Good service all around too.

this is probably the best place for steaks. i recommend the bone-in filet.  Also, remember to order the chocolate souffle. Its the best souffle in all of LA. I guarantee you that you will eat that dessert no matter how full you are.  Expect to spend approx $140 with tips. Important Note, there is no refills on sodas. I didn't know so i paid $7.00 for 2 glasses of diet coke.

I don't get to eat here very often because my budget simply does not permit. When I am able to visit I tend to order the same thing... Because everybody needs to indulge in a good filet mignon and souffle every once in a while. I've tried a number of steak houses in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, but this is always my favorite!

Although I could go on and on with reasons why this place is so fantastic, this time I think I'll let the 5 stars speak for themselves.

okay this review is going to be a bit biased(kind of like my other reviews, haha)...

Honestly, i'm not really into the fancy shmancy dinners. I'm a freaking low maintenance, C-rated taqueria loving(the dirtier the better i say!), stay at home kind of person. Sure i go out every once in a while to some shishi-lala restaurante and have a fine meal, but i go more for the company than the food. I'm more into the hole-in-the-wall, family style serving, comfort foods.

Arroyo is a beautiful restaurant, especially with all the decorations, but i do wish it was a little brighter in there. I don't know about you, but i'd like to see the faces of the people i'm talking to...that's just me.

i had a glass of glenlivet 18 neat as my drink. They didn't give me too much and it cost like 12 or 15 bucks, i don't remember. Personally, i like the 12 yr better. A friend had blue label on the rocks which cost him 35 bucks for a bunch of "rocks" and not so much of the blue label, which is pretty insane.

Their porterhouse was pretty big(that cowboy steak was even bigger). I asked for medium, it came out a little medium well, but i'm not hatin'. It  happens. I should've had the prime rib, but according to rick, they didn't have it that night. oh well... The bbq garlic shrimp appetizer was honestly the best part of the meal, but the plate only has like 4 shrimps. What the dilly yo(sp chk)? Hook a brotha up with some scrimp~!  After all the shrimps are consumed, dip that oh so soft bread into that delicious garlicy oil and just close your eyes.....heaven. ooh?

The souffle(i think it was souffle?) was good, sweet, but i've had better.

yo, just a heads up. The salad and soup doesn't come with the entree. It's extra charge. After you tell the waitress what you'd like as your entree, she's going to respond with, "Okay, soup or salad?" making it sound like the soup/salad is a part of the entree...BUT IT ISN'T! She tricked us!

$90 for the meal. i would've rather taken that 90 dollars to my taco stand, and bought 72 tacos(yes, i did the math). Now that would've been a fancy night.

On a lighter note, i did enjoy the company very much. Thank you for the invite, and sorry for arriving late.

-baro out!

p.s. i cannot eat 72 tacos.

p.p.s. why ya'll talking trash about my taco stand? my pride can't take that yo. haha. We gotta try that other place, maybe it'll replace this one as my fav in la.

It's been a Yelptastic year (well. since May 2007 at least).

We had our year end wrap up dinner here last Saturday. Ahhh. good times. Everyone was dressed so nice. I was with some of my most favorite people in the world. People that put up with my constant flaking, my "dates", my inability to be on time, and my frantic calls for direction.

Arroyo is a steak house so naturally I get my usual filet mignon. It was medium rare as promised - bloody on the inside. Very nice. I thought it could use a little more flavor. They gave us three "steak" sauces but I keeps it real.. I like A-1. But the joint seemed kinda classy and I didn't want to ask. The crab bisque was good but a tad spicy for my taste. The sides were nothing to rave about .. i don't really remember them.

Service was not the best but it was not bad either. They were really accommodating as we stayed way past the hour to divide up our bill.

*sigh* 2008 is approaching.

live. love. learn.

Fancy Schmancy. That's the first things out of my mouth when I got here. The valet guys are great and are always hustling and bustling to make sure you either get your ticket so you can get yourself situated for dinner, or quick enough that if you stand close enough to the lot they ask if you've been helped/if you needed them to get your car for you.

I thought it was kind of weird to have us wait when 95% of our party was there on time. You would think with a reservation, they would honor that. *shrug*

When we finally did get seated, our waitress had this bi-polar thing going. She'd be happy go lucky one second, and such a total b!tch like the next. Don't get me wrong, she didn't cuss, or slam things, just the stuff she said/did, was kind of on the tip of rudeness.

On to the food. My entree was the Cowboy Cut Ribeye. This thing was the size of a small cow, OK, maybe not, but it was HUGE. Cooked medium rare like I wanted it, and seasoned just right. Only one other time did I go to a steak house without having the need or urge to season it and that was @ Fleming's in Las Vegas.

The waitress suggested getting 2-3 side dishes per table saying they were good for about that 3-4 people each side dish. For our a la carte sides, we got the Black Forest Ham Mac 'n Cheese, Creamed Spinach, and Garlic mashed potatoes.

Mac was really rich and really good. It wasn't anything out of this world, but good, none the less. The creamed spinach, was, just that, creamed spinach. The garlic mashed potatoes tasted just like regular mashed potatoes to me. Maybe I was just expecting some hint of garlic, but it wasn't meant. The sides turned out to be a lot smaller than our waitress suggested (enough for 1-2 people instead of 3-4 as suggested). For dessert we had the Grand Mariner souffle. It was just so dang good. Hahaha. I swear, I might just go here just for the souffle itself.

All in all, I would say this was one of the most expensive dinners I've had, but it certainly won't be my last here. I would also like to say that the company I was with that night, made the dinner worth even more than any amount of numbers they could put on that bill. Here's to a new year, a new chapter in our lives, and hope to see you again next year.

Why I can't I *ever* seem to have a decent experience in a Smith Bros. restaurant? They get such high ratings on websites and in polls, but every time I go to any of them, I end up with mediocre food, indifferent service and an upset tummy afterward.

You ready for this? You better be. I'll be hard on you if you're not.

1/2 star off for having my party wait 10 minutes. 1/2 star off for not having the Prime Rib saved for moi.

1/2 star for your patience. 1/2 star for your attitude. 1/2 star for serving great wines. 1/2 for being on spot. 1/2 star for the atmosphere. 1/2 for the  fabulous party. 1/2 for the brilliant food. 1/2 star for the constant smiling.

Your prime rib is one of the reasons why I chose you, but you did compensate me with one of the best porterhouse steak I've had in a while. Yes, you did well with medium rare, and that's why you deserve the second chance I'm favoring you. Your pinot was just excellent and complimented well with the red meat, You devil! The side of spinach and mashed potatoes were perfect as it is. The chocolate souffle sure knew how to tease and please.

Arroyo, You sure know how to please a man. Cookings are just a key to my heart, and please mesmerize me again on my next visit.

Call me.

PS: I'm hard on you because you deserve the best. It's called Tough Love.

Friend took me here for my Birthday!  What a treat!
We got there and waiting in the valet line for a good 5 minutes or so.  We were sticking out into traffic.  I guess they were busy getting people out as it was close to 7:30pm.
We got in and had to wait about 5 minutes for our reserved seats, but I guess that happens at busy places.

Heard their prime rib is their specialty and that they were sold out.  Tip the waitress gave us was to place it on hold when you make reservations if you want the prime rib.  (not that I personally like prime rib).

For Appz: We ordered Scallops wrapped with something similar to bacon (it had fancy name, but I forgot).  I'm not fond of Scallops but these were really juicy and delicious.  I had a glass of their "Irony" Pinot Noir and that was very good as well.

For Sides.  we ordered scalloped potatoes and corn.  Corn is just that corn, but the scalloped potatoes were very good.  (thumbs up).  (2 sides is good for 3-4 peeps)

I ordered the bone in rib eye (the big version...they had a name for it but i forgot already perhaps it was the cowboy or something).  I ordered it medium and it came out very good.  They had 3 sauces...but I didn't like any of them.  Plain is the best.

For dessert we had something....came in a bowl...hmmm lemon cake with stuff inside LOL....it's supposed to be good and it was.  :P

What a great birthday dinner!
Happy New Year!

Only been here once but I must say this was the best steak I have ever had in not just Pasadena but in all of LA.  Better than Ruth's and Houston's.  I really liked union cattle but they closed down.

Service is prompt and ended up splitting the 40oz Porter House.  It was ordered med. and it came out HEAVENLY.  The only regret I have is throwing away the massive Tbone.  If i only had a dog!!!!!

I want to take gf and the rents there to enjoy in the power of red meat.  I recommend the mushrooms and scalloped potatoes as a side.

My personal favorite steakhouse to date.

I've gone to Arroyo Chophouse on three different occasions.  Each time was an exquisite dining experience with amazing steaks!  Arroyo Chop House gives you a couple of sauces on the side to compliment your steak, so whether you're a purist or you enjoy a little extra flavor, you'll enjoy your meal.

Porterhouse for 2:  One side New York + One side Filet Mignon = One delicious cut of meat.  Great Marbling on both sides and seared to perfection.  New York was amazingly flavorful and the Filet was tender and juicy.  Although intended for two, I was able to finish the entire thing.  A little on the steep side, but it hits the spot when you're feeling carnivorous.

Bone-In Rib-Eye (aka Cowboy Rib-Eye): The steak looked pretty charred and I was expecting to be disappointed in an over-cooked steak, but it was actually perfectly cooked on the inside.  Pretty good marbling and very juicy.  Not the best Rib-Eye I've had, but very good.

Filet Mignon:  Ahh... the sweet, sweet nectar of life.  The juiciest, most flavorful filet I've ever had.  Perfectly seared and well-complimented with the side sauces.  This has become my benchmark.

Although they have a number of deserts, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going across the parking lot to Parkway Grill (owned by the same company as Arroyo Chop House) and finishing off your meal with a Napoleon Brulee.  An amazing desert of custard and filo pastry, surrounded in a wonderful caramel sauce.  My absolute favorite desert.

Hey people you don't have to go all the way to the Westside to enjoy a top notch steak. Pasadena offers a great variety of Steak houses and Arroyo Chop House is number one in my opinion. Their steaks are juicy, savory, rare, just the way I like it. The steaks portions are so big you can split it with another person and just get a couple of sides to share. My fav sides are: scalloped potatos, baked potato w/fixin's, creamed spinach, or seasonal veggies. But not only is the food AMAZING but the restaurant is very elegant. It's dark the way a steak house should be with many rooms that provide an intimate setting, wood walls, large fireplace & bar. Highly recommend you save your pennies and go. A dinner for two with appetizer, drinks, steaks, 2 sides & dessert was $180

My favorite steak place.

The chilled shrimp cocktail is very good. I always order a side of ranch dressing with the bread as it is homemade, different and tasty. Ditto for the thousand island dressing which goes exceptionally well with the lettuce wedge. During winter they serve a surf and turf with a petit filet and Pacific Spiny lobster. Yum.

The ambience here is nice. I had their famous pork chop- it was good. Is that why it's called Arroyo CHOP house? I'm not sure, but that's what my date told me. He could be lying for all I know.

It's fancy. It's romantic. I would come back for a birthday dinner.

This place was a disappointment - the server had a 'tude and pretty much ignored us.  And the food was just OK, definitely not worth the big bucks we dropped there.  Oh well, it's one of those places you have to try once.

Arroyo Chop House can be described in one word: WOW.

I had the filet mignon and it was perfect. My brother had the Kobe steak and all I can say is it was worth it and is worth the $69 you spend. The sides were over the top: Baked potato, sauteed spinach, wild mushrooms, scalloped mash potatoes... YUM!

I do suggest getting plenty of rest before you come here b/c it is quite dark in the restaurant and I could easily see someone getting sleepy from the lighting.

Enjoy! Parkway Grill is next on my list :)

I give it 4 stars... though I will probably never go back... for two reasons:

1) I am now a vegetarian

2) I can't afford it

... With that said, it is damn good.

For 6 of us the bill was around $600.. YIKES. I didn't pay though.. it was a "Welcome Home" dinner after being out of the country for a bit.. nothing says "Welcome back to America" from a poverty stricken country like a  $600 meal...

We had fillet minion it was so soft and delicious... The sides were very tasty too, as was the chocolate souffle... mmmmm

It's a shame I will never see you again Chop House... But I will remember you... but I see that you are adding a room? renovating? Oh, what do I care, I will not see it.. .

Unquestionably my favorite steak house experience in the L.A. Area. The steaks (yes, I've never ordered anything else - why would I?) are fabulous - aged prime beef, a perfect medium rare nearly every time, flavorful and succulent. I almost always order the Filet Mignon, accompanied by Garlic Mashed potatoes which have the perfect consistency. In my drinking days, I found the wine list to be excellent (as does Wine Spectator).

Most special of all, though, are the servers. From the manager, Patrick, to the bevy of beautiful and gracious hostesses, to the sociable and easy going bartenders and the knowledgeable and attentive waitpersons, it is a pleaure to dine at Chop House.

The Smith Brothers, who own and operate Chop House as well as its next door neighbor, the Parkway Grill, have done a fabulous job on this elegant, yet warm and inviting restaurant. I never have reservations about referring out of town guests or business associates to Arroyo Chop House for a memorable evening.

Highly recommended!

Ehhh... server was kind of glib to us, my filet tasted overly peppered and the sides didn't impress me. We had the scallops with pancetti for an appetizer, the scallops were seared perfectly but the sauce on top was overly sweet and overpowering.

Well, what really amused me about dinner was having my girlfriend describe what an ass I made of myself last week. * Please refer to the review for The Cat & The Fiddle.

I'll continue this later, I think.

Been here several times before, but our dinner last Saturday was THE BEST.

We brought 2 bottles of wine and were charged $20 corkage fee each.  It was still worth it though since it would've costed alot more if we bought the same quality wine there.

The 8 of us ordered Cowboy ribeye, prime rib, veal chop, ahi tuna, with a variety of sides.  When our orders came, I couldn't help but notice that their prime rib is actually bigger than the majority of people's face....!!  :p

My favorite was the Cowboy ribeye...it was so tender and juicy ~ cooked just the way I like it.  And it really was cooked as is...not like most restaurants where you order it medium rare but comes out medium.  The scalloped potatoes were creamy and simply perfectly cooked.  We finished off our dinner with both chocolate and grand marnier souffles....it was so delicious just thinking about it makes my mouth water.  Hmmmm~~

you really can't go wrong here if you're ordering steak; that is if you decide to burn the life out of it and order it well-done...but in that case, you might as well as eat rubber than dish out $50 for a piece of steak.

for the money, you really get every buck back in the quality of your steak.  it's tender, aged and moist - it's like the butter of meats...practically melts in your mouth.   it's one of the best steakhouses in town.

the only thing that's hard for me is well...i like my steak with a side of a1 and tabasco...and it's a little embarassing to ask for this at a fine dining steak house.   so to not draw attention to myself or perhaps, have them  give me that "off with her head" look, i enjoy my steak with the house sauces.  fine, i'll try and be a little hoity toity to blend in.  don't get me wrong, it's still damn good this way at arroy chop house.

for a mean piece of steak without breaking the bank (too much)...arroyo chop house is certainly a decadent meat-eating delight!

1 Star rating for one thing!  These guys who own this restaurant are from my home town and seem very popular.  They have some other great restaurants in Pasadena but they don't have free refills on Soda....even for a designated driver.

The funny thing was that my waiter just kept them coming...without even asking.  When the bill came...there were 6 diet coke's charged at 6.95 or so per drink.  You might think that being the designated driver has it's priveledges and besides we spent over $300 on food.  F-ing Bastard....just let me know you don't have free refill's for designated drivers and I'll have tap water instead.

Never go here...they might charge you to use the bathroom or god forbid get another napkin.

Palms downtown is better anyways.

friend has been recommending this place forevers so finally on my bday i decided to go there. i had quite a bad experience but we can blame that on the white rude waiter. i can't remember his name now but i'm guessing he must be gay.i went with my 2 other gfs and it's not like we were dressed down or anything, but he did not treat us w/ respect. He must have thought because we were chinese we wouldn't tip well or something.

he never offered the house bread to us. we had to ask a diff waiter to bring it to us.
after i ordered my soda, he didn't ask the others if they wanted anything and we had to shout at him to get him back to the table to order drinks. bad already.

food that night was pretty bad as well. the scallops and crab legs were both overcooked.

nothing there really caught my eye and would probably never go back again.

This place only gets 2 stars....

1 for service

1 for the oysters on the half shell

Brought my gf here for her B-day and both her and I  were very dissapointed.

I was planning to get the Kobe ribeye but when I asked server how's the marbling on the kobe rib eye, she said it was light compared to their cowboy ribeye....(side note:  kobe beef, from what i know is famous for its marbling and in the past, i've had awesome kobe beef that was so tender and extremely juicy....) Since it was our first time here I thought I'd listen to the server and get the cowboy ribeye medium...instead....

My Gf got the petit filet....medium

We ordered a half dozen oysters....AMAZING...

After the oysters, we got our steaks, and sides (lyonnaise potatoes, corn, and mushrooms)....presentation was mediocre, sides were alright, but steaks were HORRIBLE. They were both dry with absolutely no taste at all.. And not even a hint of marbling...We were even thinking of asking for damage control....A1 Steak sauce but held back.....

2 glasses of merlot, oysters on a half shell (half dozen), a petit filet, a cowboy ribeye and 3 sides.. Totaling 155.00 before tip...If it wasn't so expensive I would give it another try... but its NOT... so we will never go there again.. but hey valet was free =)
