Dr. Paul Umeda is fantastic. Not only is he a skilled veterinarian, he has very good examination table manners! He is very gentle with my kitten and makes sure that we get the full and complete explanation of things we bring her in for. There are a lot of skilled veterinarians, but it's hard to find one with very good manners and good common sense. And the price is reasonable.
The staff members are great too, especially Michelle. She is always very friendly and goes out of her way to help you get a spot in this very popular and busy office.

Don't let the small building fool you this place is awesome! The prices are VERY reasonable and they also give discounts to new clients as well as if you refer someone else to the clinic you get a discount on your next visit.
The techs did a good job just getting the basics on my dog. She wasn't exactly the easiest to handle for a rectal temp, but apparently they do also have the ear thermometer which had just happened to be out of commission.
Dr.G was great, looking over my dog nose to tail she was very thorough. My dog was only there for an annual exam so nothing too big since she's still young (5yrs) and had no health issues prior.
The print outs with the invoice and "report cards" were great. It was nice to see item by item how things looked on my dog, nose, ears, teeth, etc. I also like that they take a photo of your pet which is on your invoices and report cards.
Working at a clinic in Mountain View it was nice to see the difference in another clinic. Not only in prices but also the mannerisms of the employees. Everyone was very helpful and cheerful throughout the whole duration of my time spent there. The prices were also much much better. Comparing just one vaccine at my own clinic I was paying about half the price. Not too shabby in my book.

Dr. Paul is tops on my list. It's been difficult to find a good vet in the area. In fact, I have been vet "shopping" since my glorious return to the Bay Area a little over little over three years ago and Arroyo just might be the final stop (4 stars for now as I've only been there a handful of times...but I feel a five star upgrade coming on).
Although I've heard good things about him and his practice for several years, I only ever visited for the first time a few months ago as my darling dog, Neil Diamond was having some "lady problems." During our initial visit, he commented on what a good looking dog Diamond was, which although obvious, in addition to being true, ;) is always nice to hear. He handled her with care and consideration and never once rushed us.
Now, I am admittedly a bit of a nervous owner (note that I've been to 7 different vet offices in the last 3 years - for different pets/reasons, mind you) but he listened to all my questions and gave accessible answers. After a slew of tests to rule out other possibilities, Diamond was sent home with tiny and inexpensive pills that have cleared everything up. Ah, better living through chemistry!
Although before I never imagined starting my year + old dog on hormone replacement therapy, it has been going swimmingly and I have Doctor Paul to thank.
I am extremely pleased with Arroyo Animal Clinic and its staff. My cats absolutely hate going to the vet (as most cats do), but they seemed more at ease here than they've been at other vets. Dr. Paul and the vet techs did a great job of handling the cats during the exam. They were also very thorough. One of my little furbabies tends to be extremely squirmy especially regarding his teeth but Dr. Paul was able to show me exactly what was going on. He was extremely patient and took the time to answer all of our questions.
They also send a report card with details on what he found and what we discussed.
Dr Paul is amazing. He took a lot of time to explain everything to me and was extremely gentle with my kitty. The entire staff is very friendly and helpful.
Best thing is they the entire exam with me in the room. Even drawing her blood. Other vets would take my kitty to another room and I had no idea what they did to her.
I have switched to Dr Paul permanently!
I love Arroyo Animal Clinic! We started to go here after our existing animal hospital in Los Altos gave us a ridiculous quote for surgery and dental cleaning, AND our favorite doc wasn't available to do the surgery. After looking at reviews, we chose Arroyo. From the first phone call through to the week after surgery where they were still checking on our dog, they were fabulous.
The staff here is so pleasant, loves animals, and just is all around understanding and good. Dr. Michelle was great with our dog. AND the prices were nearly half the other place... AND they called us several times after our dog's surgery because she wasn't acting totally normal yet.
Highly recommend this office!!
Wow! We have been very impressed with Dr. Paul at Arroyo Animal Clinic. We have 2 pet rats, and not everyone knows how to treat or handle rats. Our little rat Reed has had several tumors, and Dr. Paul was able to fit him into his schedule and remove two of them. He's very honest and caring and explains the pros and cons of surgery. He understands our relationships with our pets and keeps that in mind while being thorough in his assessments of what the best course of action would be for the animal.
The vet techs have been great - it's hard getting our boys on the scale elsewhere, but here it was no problem. The ladies at the front counter have always been very friendly, greeting our rats as well as us. Their prices are also very VERY reasonable. Thank you Dr. Paul and everyone at Arroyo Animal Clinic!! HIGHLY recommended!!
Dr. Umeda is fantastic! He treated my rats well, knew so much about them, and took great care of them during a surgery. He did such a fantastic job, there were no infections, and no problems afterwards (something I've dealt with from other vets).
The price was reasonably too-most vets jack up costs for "exotics."
I can't say enough good thigns about the clinic in general, and Dr. Umeda especially.
I just wish I lived close enough to use him as a regular vet!
Very pleased with Arroyo. Dr. Paul is the best. I've even been able to take our cat there for a bath and nail trim. Very professional!!
We took our newly adopted cat to Dr Paul for his first checkup, we were very happy with the service, he obviously connects with his patients and cares about them. The clinic is very convenient, off of El Camino in Sunnyvale, with plenty of parking, the staff is helpful and friendly.
Dr Paul Umeda is a saint. I have 2 gorgeous blue cream CALICO's, one acts like real crack-head and loves to lure you in with a purr then bite you. She loves Dr Paul!! He loves her. It's a love fest! He is kind, gentle and really cares. His assistants are the best and really love what they do and do it well. I won't take my "girls" anywhere else. The prices are good and they will almost always squeeze you in if it's really needed. They board too. Call, you wont be sorry!
Through recommendations from friends and family, I've been taking my cat I adopted over at the Humane Society for the last three years. Dr. Paul has been a family friend for many years and he is great with my skittish cat. John has typically been the technician for shots and he makes sure my cat is comfortable as much as possible. I was most impressed when my brother's dog passed away last year and they had been going to Arroyo for many years. They took the dog to be cremated and even though it was a Saturday (non-office hours) they made sure someone was there to help out our family during that time of mourning. They also sent my brother and his wife a condolence card. They truly show that they love the animals they care for.
Dr Paul is great and have been going to him for over 8 years for our lab/shepard. He and his clinic are very nice and friendly. He always treats our dog with care and respect, even when he gets difficult when needing shots or weighing on the scale!
I was recommended to this Clinic by a Co-Worker and was not disappointed. Since moving to Fremont I have seen three different Vets and was un-impressed with them all. For instance in one particular case the vet never even touched my cat, and this was a first time visit!
Anyway...I brought my cat of 7 years in for Dental Cleaning and was surprised when Dr. Paul Umeda began giving my cat a thorough exam. He was feeling the belly for Tumors, Checked ears, eyes etc.. He went into great detail explaining the Process that would be involved for sedation etc.. and showed great empathy when I explained my previous experience with my loved ones care or LACK there of!
All other vets I have been to did not take the care and concern in performing exams or performing procedures, they mishandled my cats health and care and I have suffered greatly as a result.
I highly recommend this clinic not only based on my experience but the experience of my friend Joe who had a very sick dog that greatly benefited from Arroyos professional staffs care.
The only reason I am holding back in giving a full 5 Star rating is due to the inconvenience of the hours-(no weekend appointments or after 5:30PM weeknights. :( ......Even so I will still take my family of Pets to Arroyo,....Thank you Dr. Paul :)

We've been taking our dog to Arroyo and Dr Paul for 4 years now. We used to live just blocks from their office and were fortunate/lucky enough to come across them when we first got our dog. We've sinced moved to Campbell about 20min away but would never consider going to any other vet. It's no surprise all the reviews for Arroyo, Dr Paul, and the techs are stellar. Dr Paul is extremely knowledgable and great with our dog, we also like chatting with him about anything and evertything, very patient and personable. The techs are super too, they know what they're doing and are great to deal with. If you're in the market for a vet, give this place a try, you won't regret it. This is a highly ethical and professional office, Thank you Arroyo and Dr Paul!
Dr. Umeda is a wonderfully vet. He saved our kitty and us a lot of grief one time when another vet misdiagnosed and said our kitty had a fatal heart condition. Thank goodness we found Dr. Umeda for a second opinion. He gave our a cat a really thorough examination and was able to pinpoint the real problem. He gave kitty a shot of steroid and a few hours later, he was pain free. I can't thank him enough for saving our cat and giving us our peave of mind back.
