I went there about a year ago and the food was good and we had good serivce. The decor could use some updating, so I hope my next visit will be better.

    Closed.

As I said in my earlier reviews,if they didn't do something about the restaurant hours being stable ,they would fold.

Went past there yesterday and the building is now for lease.

The food was OK,but if you screw with the hours you are open, people won't go there anymore.

I cannot believe this place is still in business!!  Food is bland at best! The wait staff, especially our waiter was the worst I have ever seen.

Example: My friend ordered a pasta dish, when the waiter came to put cheese on top, he dropped the chunk of Parmesan cheese right in front our table. He just picked it up and proceeded to grind cheese on the plate!!.

All the manager would do is comp us some dessert, still wanted to charge for the pasta dish!!

If that kind of stuff happens in front of your table, just imagine what is going on in the kitchen!!

Great location, watching the sunset as we sipped our cocktails. However, it took a long time before we got service out in the patio, and I asked for my Bloody Mary "a little spicy" and there was half a bottle of Tabasco in it! I asked for them to remake it and they did not problem.

The do have a few things for $2 Happy Hour which is 4-8pm. We got the chips and salsa,..the salsa again was SO spicy we couldn't eat it. Then for the main course I ordered the Seafood Risotto, and I thought it was excellent!

My BF ordered the Prawn cocktail, as soon as we got home he was on the toilet a few times. I think he got a slight case of food poisoning...His poor bunghole...

This is one of the first places I went to when I began dating DH.  We got a table with a view of the water.  We got seated close to dusk so we had an overall excellent view.

Food is on the pricey side but it was good.  I totally wouldn't mind coming back for a party or business lunch.  It's true it's very country club but you're not rushed through the meal.

    Great date place!

An Italian place off the Redwood City beaten path that is on the east part of Woodside off 101. Actually a nice place but seems to be mainly frequented by business people because that's all that's around the restaurant.

I don't know about the other food there, but the Grill Salmon salad was delicious - nice sized piece of grill salmon that was perfectly cooked and moist over a bed of salad with honey mustard dressing. And service was great during the business lunch I had there.

I think it is connected to (or the same place as) Bella and you can get steak and seafood there too.

Bottom line: nice place for a business lunch if you are around there, grilled salmon salad was great, not sure about the Italian dishes nor the steak and other seafood.

I got the oysters, clam chowder, the polenta and the pizza so far for the Happy Hour stuff.  Pretty decent for the price, especially for the raw oysters!!!  :D

The bartender is on to me.... he keeps asking on each of my visits if I wanted the oysters!  LOL!!!  :P

I came here with my mom and grandma on a beautiful day on the peninsula.  We were catching up and chatting a lot.  We decided to sit outside and they have a beautiful yard in the back with several umbrella-ed tables and even a a gazebo.  We grabbed one of the tables and started reading their extensive menus.  They have several dishes and it was really hard to make a decision.

I ordered the chicken and sundried tomato pesto sandwich.  I really enjoyed it.  The chicken was grilled, the veggies were fresh, and the sundried tomato pesto added a sweet kick.  My grandma ordered the roast beef sandwich and she enjoyed it too.  Both of our sandwiches were massive AND came with a side of pasta.  WAAAAY too much food.  We gave the leftovers to my dad.

My mom ordered the gnocchi with tomato sauce and it was pretty disappointing.  The gnocchi was tasty but the sauce was obviously canned.  It tasted like Ragu.  My mom probably took 6 or 7 bites of the huge plate.

If the gnocchi hadn't been so bland and usual I would've given this place 4 stars.

The prices for lunch are very reasonable.

The food was not really all that great, but the service was very 5-star, and the price & view is also 5-star. The restaurant itself has great potential - big, nice and elegant design, but the food just wasn't there for my palate.

One big tip to the owner: make sure you watch who is manning your hostess stand - there was a really obnoxious woman yelling to another waitress/hostess and complaining about something. Older blonde lady. Only thing in the restaurant that appeared "trashy" (Sorry for the bluntness)

Overall I paid $40 for a lunch that was probably worth $20 at any other restaurant...

I have to give it four star because I of an embarrassment that took place because of the waiter.

I went here for the first time on a rainy day with a group of girlfriends who lived across the bay. We were seated right away; waiter took no time to serve us water and our individual wine. By the way, good wine list. After being seated and looking at the menu, I decided to go for the chicken marinara for like 16 bucks. it was sooooogooooooood! the side serving of pasta was even better. Not say the side of veggies too. Great!

Here comes the bad part. Before driving to Arrivederci Bella's, I checked via phone with my credit card for the line of balance, and yes, i know what you are going to say, "You should have known"... Whatever, I know I had enough to pay for my meal and that of my friends so when the bill came I handed over the credit card and smiled. HORRIBLE the waiter came back to tell me the card was rejected. I was so embarrassed. However, I didn't understand why, because I new there was sufficient funds. Thank god, the girls had cash and they paid for dinner. Here is goes: we learned that the waitress added her own FREAKING tip with out our knowledge and that is why my card was declined...ay..yayay!

We were a party of 3 not 6, darn it!

I have still gone back, but this time with mulah in hand.

You come to this place for the view. Just keep this in mind and you'll be good.
The food is pretty good - not fabulous, but not awful. We ordered the fried calamari for app: that was really yummy.

When we came for dinner on a Thursday night, the place was pretty empty and the staff was sparse. What's nice is that the staff leaves you alone, but they are friendly.
It is a quite place, with decent food, and a great view of the bay. There is outdoor seating - which is a plus.

Hey, there's not many ocean/bay-front restaurants between Monterey/Santa Cruz and San Francisco. This place is good enough for that, especially for the price.

This place is probably better  for lunch, or a low-key dinner.

I guess this place is family owned? Seems like it, at least. The checks are still hand written, you would think that with a decent view and nice decor that they would upgrade the tech now. Though it is next to some recycling yards...

I had the veal scaloppini I think it's called and it was pretty good, Meat, vegies and rice were tasty, not too salty or oily. Wife had the filet mignon with mash potatoes, now that was a waste of money. We ordered medium rare and I would say it was more medium...and the meat wasn't so good, wasn't that soft...probably not a good part of the sirloin or maybe just overcooked. Mash was also bland and no gravy, asked but they don't do gravy.

We got there early so got a good window view. Server was nice and courteous. Maybe if you know what to order then food can taste good...but I would say this is the first time I've not had good filet mignon (and I've had a lot).

I'm not an urban elitist. Well not much. Well OK...maybe just a little.

This is not a place I would ordinarily frequent since it's off my beaten path in Redwood City, but since my friends were intractably bound to the peninsula and points southward, I was compelled to take the drive down 101. It's off the Woodside exit down Seaport Road which winds itself toward the bay.

As I suspected, it is an expansive place with a predominantly suburban feel with a wait staff that looked like they were competing for tenure. We were all to meet at 6PM at which point I waited in an empty bar as herds of slow-moving senior citizens shuffled by - women clad in pink stretch pants and men following behind picking their teeth with whatever was handy. If there was an early bird special, I wasn't aware of it. We were a party of eight and seated at a round table. Now why we were not given a table with a view was somewhat puzzling given that the restaurant was probably 30% full when we came in.

The menu is quite large with an emphasis on seafood given its locale next to the local yacht club and on pasta given its coy name. I first ordered the seafood risotto at a rather pricey $22 but was told it would become a multi-generational project if I insisted upon it. Changing course and carb intake, I went for a combination plate of veal and prawns sauteed with sliced button mushrooms and wine. It came with a yellow rice, two florets of broccoli and a carrot wedge. While the veal portion was generous, there were two prawns...count 'em...one, two...that's it. It felt a bit like eating at a wedding banquet for someone who decided to spend all their money on the honeymoon. The food was prepared fine, but nothing jumped out at me to say that I was in the presence of a culinary master. Others at my table ordered dishes like the cracked crab, the spaghetti carbonara and the rack of lamb, all huddled in the $20-$30 range, but I can't honestly remember any of them discussing the unparalleled quality of the food.

Three people ordered dessert, but nothing had me dragging my tongue on the floor. For better or worse, I was sated with the entree I had. Besides which, I had a couple of pieces of the brick-like foccacia bread at the beginning, and I was wetting my whistle on a 2001 Rodney Strong Cabernet ($32) that provided the perfect complement to the meal. While attentive, the service was the envy of garden snails everywhere. We were there for well over three hours in European-like fashion. The clientele was somewhat less continental with tank-tops and T-shirts the accepted attire. So don't bother getting gussied up.

FOOD - 3 stars...I kept waiting for the wedding cake to be served and the garter to be thrown
AMBIENCE - 3 stars...a little bit country club, a little bit Shady Pines
SERVICE - 3 stars...I was thinking about writing letters to the waiter between courses
    OVERALL - 3 stars...take your mom, she'll love it

I agree with some of the other reviews on this particular restaurant.  Nothing special.  Service was really slow, my gnocchi was very bland.  Was very expensive for such eh food.  Didn't hate it, didn't love it either.  Would not advise my family or friends to go here.  Overall, wasn't the best dining experience in my life.

This is the perfect date place if you're a senior, judging by the dozens of octogenarians in the dining room slurping their pasta noodles.  I think we ordered the ribs special and some pasta dish, and all I can say is thank GOD we had a coupon.  I felt ripped off even with one free entree.   I can't imagine anyone pays full price here.  I saw a bumbling waiter totally screw up uncorking a wine bottle at another table, and actually serve the wine with little cork flakes in the glass!  The place does have a country club feel, albeit one that hasn't been updated in about 30 years.  I'd only come back if I had to find my grandmother a date.  But I think even my Granny has standards higher than the ones here.

This place used to be former 49er Dwight Clark's restaurant called "Clark's by the Bay" so I search online a while back to see what is at the location now so I thought I would give it a try and I had the New York Steak dinner but what was disappointing is that they had no baked potatoes so they gave me pasta instead without even asking me so I asked if I could have mashed potatoes and they were good but   still had the pasta anyway which was good and the meal overall was good but it could have been better because the steak really wasn't much of a difference than the New York Steaks you can buy at Safeway and BBQ them yourself, I also had the cheesecake for dessert and the food overall was just basic, nothing special but it was good. My waitress name was Sharon and she was nice.

Since when is spaghetti seasoned with chili?  My dinner tasted like chili and fried the daylights out of my tongue and throat.  Great sinus cleaner but horrible otherwise.  If there is a next time, I'm steering far far away from any red sauce there.

Second review, Jan 2010.  Still a really good value.

Decent food, nice harbor view and excellent service. The place is really empty on weekday nights which is puzzling given the value and venue. I had Ciopino that was GREAT, tons of tasty seafood in it (including a lot of crab) and perfectly seasoned. Some places load it up with the cheaper ingredients such as squid, but not Bella's.

Our waiter was Italian (I think). Very attentive and professional. No "how are you guys doing?" every five minutes, just keeps an eye on you, fills glasses, bread etc and makes sure you have a pleasant expereince.

The Moretti beer on tap tastes great,. They know how to keep it at the right temp and how to avoid having it go flat.

Give this place a try. You will like it.
    ********************
I was surprised at the value offered here on weeknight specials:  full course dinner for prices ranging from 13 to about 20 dollars. I had really good rack of lamb one night and a large (I couldn't finish it)  tender flavorful NY steak the following week. Both meals were well under $20. I always tip more than customary when menu prices are low. Why should the waiters suffer because you are getting a reasonably  priced meal? Hot house baked bread, a really good house salad, veggies and desert were all included. Service was good, sunset harbor views were very nice too. The place should have more customers. It can seat probably 300 (has an upstairs too) and had about 20 the nights I was there. Why? I don't know. It is not as spiffed up as it was when it was new and called Dwights (owned by 49er Dwight Clark), but it isnt run down or anything like that.

Give this place a try on a weekday evening. You can't beat the value anywhere on the Peninsula. It is really a 3 star place but I give it one more for value and service. It is confusing to try and find it in a phone book as it goes by several different names including Arrivederci, Bellas Seafood, Bella's by the Bay etc. It is easy to find however using Google maps. Close to 101, Seaport exit, located at at Redwood City Yacht Harbor.

Wow! What a surprise find. Being new to the area we're still finding little hidden gems like this while out exploring. The place is a little out of the way- maybe that's why it was so empty when we were there- it certainly deserves a big crowd. Great food. Great service. Friendly atmosphere in a beautiful local by the water. What more can you ask for? How about low prices and large, just enough for lunch the next day, portions??

Business lunch? Here's your place. I didn't really notice anything special about Arrivederci, except its catchy name that makes you want to talk with your hands when you say it.

There were about 15 of us in the group. Service was sub-par. I kept having to ask for my water to be refilled. Sigh. I think we waited about forever and a half to get our food. I ordered something called the fantasy pizza, thinking it would be a small, personal sized dish. I was so wrong. The pizza came and my eyes just popped; it was like a medium pizza at Pizza Hut. There is no way a person can handle all that in 1 sitting, without the aid of a hungry mob. The chicken slices on the pizza were these huge strips; a very odd presentation. Usually, chicken is served cubed or shredded on pizza for easier consumption. Why did they have to make eating difficult. These looked like well, chicken strips. Strange. I was not a happy camper with my entree. Note: after taking it home and sticking it in the fridge for a while and THEN eating it, it was actually better than at the restaurant. Go figure.

However, looking around sadly at everyone else's food, they all looked pretty decent; huge burgers, some basic pasta dishes, calamari, etc. And let me just say that their fried calamari appetizer served with cocktail and tartar sauces is what kept me happy, though I don't think anyone can really screw that up anyway.

My coworker peer pressured me to try the escargot. Sigh. I had to. But I just held my breath, chewed once then swallowed. I have images of a happy lil slug in my stomach now. Tasted like mushroom.

As other reviews have stated, this place is very Country Club-ish. There are windows all around to admire a mediocre view, unless you like looking at salt piles. The fireplace is great though but in all else, don't expect a miracle meal here. And don't order the Fantasy Pizza unless you've been fasting for 40 days.

An ok restaurant.  Pretty expensive for so-so food and when you pay +18-25 dollars for an entree(thinking from someone with a college budget), you would expect more than so-so food.  Not the easiest place to find.  Received good service and plenty of bread and that was pretty good itself.  Got the sunday daily special of the lamb chops that had four pieces of lamb, a scoop of mashed potatoes, and a probably another scoop of some veggies($16).  I asked for medium and mine were cooked a lil too long.  Overall, it's decent, not the best.

The restaurant has reopened under the name Bella, and it was good. There really wasn't much in the way of people there. I have been there before off and on through the years, it use to be Clark's by the bay. That mid-week night I hung out at the bar. The bartender was a sweetie and mixed a fine drink. The ceasar salad had too much in the way of dressing, my $27.00 New York Steak dinner had too much in the way of sauce and was too fatty. Overall the meal was OK, however for the price I think you can do better.

The first time I came here was my one year anniversary with my boyfriend and he really did surprise me with the restaurant. I mean, it wasn't too fancy, but the view of the bay was gorgeous and the weather that day was smashing with sunshine shadowing the waters. When we got there the host sat us with good seats which was right in front of the beautiful view. Our waitress/server was very respectful, kind, and had a lovely sense of humor. She treated us like royalty and always knew what we needed and got it for us before we could even ask. Now that's service and that's what I call a good fat tip! She was just awesome. The food there was exceptional. My boyfriend had the Bouillabaise and enjoyed it and liked the zesty and spicy taste of the stew. I ordered the Scallops & Prawns Saute combination plate and yummy! If I were to rate this restaurant just for this day I would have given 5 stars hands down, but my next visit here was horrible and that's why it was bumped down to 3. My next visit was for mother's day and our server was horrible, rude, arrogant, snobby, and to top it off RACIST! That I can't stand out of anything. He didn't like the fact that my parents were very indecisive due to the fact that they didn't know what half of the menu was, it probably would have been better if the waiter explained some of the items. Also, everytime we needed something he'd blow us off and say "okay, okay" with an irritated expression and forget that we even asked him. I was so mad that I didn't really care about the food I ate nor did I even want to eat it after this bull. After dinner was over, I complained to him and gave me attitude basically saying "it's not my fault that you guys are complaining about every little thing." Now that ticked me off. I'm usally very calm, but I almost flipped over the table and socked him in the face. HOW RUDE! I spoke to the manager/owner of the store and she apologized and agreed that he is rude and he's been getting recent complaints frequently. To compensate us, she gave us a gift certificate of $20 for next time. I didn't really want a gift certificate, but rather to see this waiter get punked by his manager hardcore and even fired! If anyone ever comes here be aware of this waiter...he's an older man named John and has an Italian accent. Very rude. Hopefully he's still not there.
