I've been to this restaurant with my family, with guy friends and with dates, respectively.  I'd especially recommend going to Arqua when taking a lady on a date.  When I was single, bringing a date to Arqua was my ace in the hole. Arqua's ambiance and aesthetics really make the place an enjoyable one to bring a date. I just think the rustic look and feel of the interior really works. Plus, the restaurant is almost never crowded, so that obviously makes it much easier to have a nice conversation with the person or people one is with. The decor of the place is just inviting and seems to soothe the soul.

As for the food, no matter who you go with, obviously, it's constantly good. I, for one, usually order the same thing: the gnocchi. I have had gnocchi at many different places and without question, the gnocchi dish I had at Arqua was one of the best I've ever had. It was just so flavorful and not overly rich. Outside of the gnocchi, the people who I have dined with ordered a variety of the dishes and I didn't hear one complaint from them about their food.

The only drawbacks are that sometimes the waitstaff isn't as attentive as they should be (especially when the place usually isn't crowded) and the dessert menu isn't that great. Either than that, no matter the occasion or with whom one is with, Arqua is definitely a place to try.

so this review might be a bit unfair.
I haven't been to Arqua in a long while so I'm going from memory therefore this review isn't the most accurate...
anyways, i remember the fois gras platter being REALLY REALLY good do they still have that? I hope so.
the owner really likes Japanese culture and kimonos so last time I was there she was sporting pseudo-kimono thing.
Those things are what I remember about this place. I'll update when I go again...which might not be for a while...

Maybe it was an off night for the restaurant, but I was underwhelmed our experience.
The food was hit and "just-missed".  My starter of cauliflower with pine nuts and currants was excellent (delicate and flavourful, with the right balance of sweet and savoury), but the main course of liver was stringy - an absolute no-no for liver.
The main problem was with the wine - as other reviewers have mentioned, the wine by the glass selection is poor.  And on querying the taste of the bottle of white we ordered, we were told that this was how it was supposed to taste, which was just not true (being a polite bunch of Brits out with parents we didn't make the fuss we should have).
I'd have made allowances for a cheaper restaurant, but not at these prices ($12 starter, $25 main course).

This restuarant has been a staple for family dinners for as long as I can remember. It has a pleasant ambience, and is nicely decorated.
The waitstaff is always friendly and helpful; they are more than willing to alter a dish to suit your needs, or split dishes between people.
My favorites there are the beet salad and seafood pasta, with chocolate mousse for desert.
Everything is delicious! I always look forward to coming here for dinner.

I have lived in this neighborhood for so long and have never tried Arqua.  Now I see I wasn't missing anything really.

The decor was Tuscany with a twist.  The food was quite tasty.  The service, however, lacked sincerity and a sense of timeliness.

Another oddity: They only offered one white and one red wine by the glass.  So, if you're not a huge Chianti fan, get ready to drink a bottle or switch to hard alcohol.

Food-wise, we tried the specials and they were good: Cauliflower soup, Baby Ocotopus for apps.  Dinner consisted of the Butternut Squash tortelloni (which was very sweet but lovely) and the Veal Scallopini (fab).

I would recommend this place ONLY if you are already in the neighborhood and are looking for a leisurely (read: slow!) meal.

This is a family favorite for my other half's family.  It's not a family restaurant per se, rather it's an elegant Italian establishment, white table clothes, and professional wait staff.  The owners are typically on site during the evenings.  The seafood pasta has more fresh seafood than pasta and is especially delicious, the cod is excellent,  and I'm told the venison is superb.  The wine list is artfully crafted and compliments the sophisticated Italian cuisine.  Favorite desserts: the fresh sorbets, the apple crumb cake, and the chocolate moose.

There is lots of space between the tables, and a clean decor.  There is also a modest bar where one could sit and have while enjoying one of the many appetizers.

I enjoyed the food immensely here the two times I've been. Simply designed, the only problem we had was our reserved table was being taken up by the party before us......for way too long. They just wouldn't leave. For this and other great restaurants I thank the Nick and his family for inviting me. The osso bucco was insanely good, sitting on a bed of risotto, and the marrow was terrific. The service was not quite attentive but not rude or haughty.

4.5 stars, really. Well made Italian food; nice wines.  They don't try anything fancy, but what they do make tastes homemade. I've had an excellent duck ragu there, and good lasagne. Good espresso. The room is bright and airy and understated, like the food. We had a big party there. It was easy to negotiate and everyone was happy.

May not be a good place to bring a guest who has trouble walking, because the bathroom is down a steep flight of stairs.

By NYC standards this is ok. The food is excellent, the service I got was ok but not outstanding and there was a very limited wine by the glass selection. If I am in Tribeca I 'may' stop here but more than likely would try something new.
