Portions are small and service is slow. I don't feel like I got my money's worth from this place. I gave them 3 chances now I"ll NEVER go here. The previous Thai restaurant in this location was good and stayed in business for about 15 years; alas now we have this lousy place :-(
I sound like a broken record but all you who think this is a great resturant , find a Thai friend and have them cook you a meal; you opinion will change.

This is my FAVORITE Thai Restaurant! They have such uniquely delicious menu, it's wonderful, I get the Pad Thai and the number 44. With Chicken. That combination is wonderful. It filled my taste pallet! I highly recommend you go there! The Thai beer also add a wonderful touch to the food. The interior is sweet, with sweet colors, soft music, they got a LCD tv they put on sometimes, it's a family owned business, definitely worth your money.

MmMMmMM! I am so excited to find such a traditional and delicious Thai Restaurant. Some friends invited my boyfriend and I out to dinner, and chose to go to Aroy-Dee Thai. Before tonight, I hadn't been there so I didn't really know what to expect. After arriving though, the place looked pretty traditional, so I was thinking it would be a safe choice.
Between the 6 of us, we ordered the appetizer combo, pineapple fried rice, thai basil fried rice, prawns, and a couple of orders of yellow curry. The appetizer combo consisted of fried chicken drumsticks, satay chicken, crab cakes, and egg rolls. The appetizer combo was just ok in my opinion. However, the prawns, fried rice, and curry were all delicious. The curry and fried rice was indeed spicy, just how I wanted it. It was spicy yet also very flavorful. This place reminds me of my favorite Thai restaurant in Fremont. Anyhow, if I get Thai food from now on, I'll come here.
The lunch buffet kicks ass.... good price and good food. Been there for it twice and will definitely come back. Never had dinner there but would definitely try it!
I went there for the first time this past Thursday. I just wanted to have a light lunch and since I was close to the location decided to drop in for the buffet. There was only one server working that lunch, but she seemed to have everything under control, although she didn't ask me if I wanted something else to drink besides water.
The food was very food. They had soup, salad, a tasty selection of food, and a dessert. It was wonderful. None of the dishes were too spicy and everything tasted good.
I will go back again for lunch and maybe even dinner.
Got take out for lunch. It was good food. I'd recommend doing the buffet, though, if you're going for lunch, because otherwise it's a little price for what it is. Would have been a great deal for dinner.

I love this place! It is my favorite Thai restaurant. I mostly order their vegetarian pad thai and the vegetarian yellow curry with fresh tofu. Their peanut sauce and sticky rice is a great side and is very filling. The servers are nice, although, depending on who you get, there can be a slight language barrier. I have resorted to pointing to the menu a couple of times. Their buffet is also really good, but features mostly meat dishes (not all, though) and fried foods. It's delicious, but not always the most healthful.
Maybe I need to try what the other Yelpers had because I really didn't care for this place.
Went here for their lunch buffet...the place was pretty empty during a normally busy time for most restaurants...go figure. Not much of a selection to call itself a buffet, unless you're looking for all you can eat pad thai, curry, and chicken.

Ah, the old Bangkok Garden; the predecessor of Aroy-Dee is pure nostalgia for me since my husband and I had our first date here in 1986. This was also my first experience at a Thai restaurant. Since then I have become a real fan of Thai cuisine; we've tried just about all the local Thai restaurants. We think Aroy-Dee is a cut above. Excellent tom kha gai and the pad thai is quite good, too. Service has always been very friendly and attentive in our experience. We'd like to try the lunch buffet sometime; it sounds like a great deal at $8.00!

i think this is the only thai buffet in the south bay! well, it's the first one i have ever been to! came here for their lunch buffet the other day and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and variety of food they had! my favorites were the soup and pad thai. yum!! the price was right at $7.95 a person! they also had curry, grilled chicken, rice, fried rice, salad, pineapple, dessert and more! they use breast meat which is nice and healthy! i have passed by this place several times on my way to halu ramen which is next door. it's across the street from harry's hofbrau and garden city. check this place out if you are jonesin' for some thai food! you won't be disappointed!!

3/17/2008 UPDATE: Went over to Aroy-Dee the other day, and, to my dismay, it is now closed. :(

Give this place some love! Why is it that whenever I go here, nobody is ever there? Eat here, people, it is good! Sure, the exterior is a dive, but it's actually really nice inside. Dive places have the best food anyway.
The fam and I go here a lot, and the owner or cook is super friendly. She gave us a bunch of free food, and came out to talk to us. She's cool.
I eat a lot of pad thai when I go to Thai food joints, and this place has some good pad thai. But you must get their chicken curry in the yellow sauce -- oh my god it's a piece of heaven in your mouth. They also have the best house fried rice you'll ever eat. This place used to be called "Bangkok" or something like that, and their fried rice basically led me to my love of thai food. Now, it's not as good, but it's still better than any other thai food place you'll go to, so just go here!
Move over, Krung Thai, whatever. At least go to Thai Pepper in Franklin Mall if you don't want to go here, but my question is: why wouldn't you want to go here?
3.5 stars
So after thinking of where to have my friend's birthday dinner at, we decided upon Aroy Dee since none of us have never been there. The service is great but the food was average. We had ordered cashew chicken, pad thai, and beef potato curry. The beef potato curry was the standout being that it was tender, full of flavor, and very fun to eat. I wished we had more of their curry but it was all gone by the time all my friends got their hands on it. In addition, the fried banana was good and it came with coconut ice cream. Overall, a nice experience which went smooth and for a total of 5 people, only 33 bucks. I gotta try out their lunch buffet which everyone seems to be talking about.
Two words: BBQ PORK!
This is a must if you come by here. Extremely succulent thin slices of pork slathered with a satay-type marinade. Perfect amount of char, just to get that smoky flavour in. Whenever I miss Singaporean satay, this is the next best thing.
Generous portions and very reasonable prices make this place a staple in my book. The waitress is always very prompt in refilling drinks and comes by often to ask how we are doing. Service can be a little slow though.
Great place for a nice quiet dinner.

I haven't the chance to try their regular menu items, so it's 3 stars for now. The Aroy Dee weekday buffet spread is impressive for a Thai restaurant because rarely can you find a Thai place offering authentic Thai dishes for buffet. You get all the usual curries, pad and tom dishes for one reasonable price. I must rate their calamari and BBQ pork dishes their best. The calamari is soft, tender and succulent. The BBQ pork is nicely done and juicy. Oh, don't miss out on the soup of the day. It usually comes piping hot with geneous portions of vegetables and mushrooms in it. The dessert is excellent too. Can you imagine all-you-can-eat fresh mangos and sticky rice ? Service is friendly and efficient. Keep up the good work !!!
Three words: Tasty Thai buffet.
$8 all you can eat, the service doesn't exist which is perfect for a buffet, and the food is delicious.
Their yellow curry and mass-produced pad thai is fantastic, and their assorted dish of, what they call "YUM!" is as expected (ranges from ground spicy pork, glass noodle salad and other appetizers).
definitely a good place to spend a lunch hour NOT in our company's cafe

Good Thai food lunch buffet, also available on Saturday . I am not aware of any other thai food buffet around south bay. The lunch buffet is $7.95. The menu changes daily. Pork sate is good.

Thanks to my friend and fellow Yelper Sarah S. we got hooked up for lunch here. The owner is a family friend of hers and so she recommended all of these wonderful Thai dishes instead of the usual lunch time buffet. The best TOM KHA GAI soup I've ever tasted and I've tried many in the area including Krung Thai, Thai Pepper and Thai Orchid.

I stopped in for some lunch at this place. They served a buffet or a la carte. Opted for the buffet as it looked sufficient. Pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, some grilled pork and chicken, green curry chicken, calamari salad, spicy tofu, soup, steamed rice as well as fruit and dessert were on offer for just $7.95. Reasonable and tasty. A keeper in my book.

Can't say the food is good here. We ordered three dishes+ soup and they tasted similar to chinese food except for the soup. I usually order tom kha gai and although it wasn't horrible, it wasn't anything great either.

I like this buffet. But I think they don't have enough variaty.
I think they should serve beef too.
Some of their dishes are similar to one another.
However, I still like this place.
But they need to refill their food faster.
Whenever I'm in the mood for Thai food, I usually head here during lunch for their buffet. Not only is it inexpensive, but the food is pretty good. It may not seem like a lot of variety, but the food is delicious and fills you up quickly. Also, I especially enjoy their different soups and desserts that they serve. It's a great small and cozy place to dine.

i woke up with a stomach flu today...felt nauseated all morning. the thought of food makes me queasy. yet, i still want to go to a Thai buffet lunch.
it was about 1pm...i start work at 2:30......so there isn't much time to enjoy the food.
we got there and the place is empty. went straight for the food. soup was good, but very sour. salad was flavorful and delicious. most of the hot food were just leftovers and doesn't look too good. the pork bbq pieces were tender and flavorful with a hint of char. simply delicious. the desert was good, very coconuty and milky....i would've liked it better with banana instead of taro. pineapple was fresh and sweet. most food item has some spiceyness to it....normally, i'd eat a lot, but today...that's all i tried.
i made a mental note that the food are good, next time, we should go early to get fresh food. as we got up to pay, the cashier was suprised that we ate so fast. she worried about us not liking something. she offered to make more of whatever we want....but, we figured it was their closing lunch, and didn't want the hassle, plus we gotta go to work. she asked how i know about the place, i didn't want to scare her by saying i found them on Yelp. i should've though. maybe i'll tell her that next time. she was genuinely nice and very hospitable.
they open 7 days a week.....lunch buffet always changes everyday except for the pork bbq and fried banana.

This is my favorite place to eat especially when it comes to lunch. It's quick (buffet - food is ready for you) and ALL the selections are good. A couple time I went there they had crab fried rice, vegeratian pad see heu (flat noodle - or chow fun), yellow chicken curry, BBQ pork, veggie stir fry, fried stuffed bread, fried banana, very nice pudding, thai beef salad and thai dessert.
Another big reason for me to eat there is because they use chicken breast - I don't eat chicken thigh at all. I took all my coworkers here and they all like it as well.

Aroy-Dee and its predecessor have been common visits for my co-workers and I. We are big fans of buffets in general, and Aroy-Dee has the added benefit of being compatible with those that like the buffet, and those that do not. Many a visit has consisted of half and half.
So for my going away lunch at work, I decided this is where we should go.
It went very well. My manager made arrangements with restaurant, warning them of 20 or so people would be arriving for lunch. They handled the volume fine and very excitedly announced when new, fresh dishes arrived on the buffet line.
They even go out of the way to take care of the vegetarians (who only had two dishes in the buffet), by putting together some extras special for them.
As an added bonus, because we had such a large group, they brought in a traditional Thai dancer to give us a little show. I was a bit freaked out by the special attention, but it was nice none the less. They definitely went out of their way to show us a good time.
Definitely recommend checking it out. Very good value.
The best, (and only?) Thai Buffet in town!!! I used to come at least weekly before i start on my weight loss program. They serve authentic Thai food, and except for a few items, the menu changes everyday, so even I came often, it's never boring. The owner is really friendly. She goes around the tables, and talk to the customers. The only minus is service is a bit lacking. They don't really keep your glass full, especially when they get really busy at lunch time. but hey, it's an 8 bucks Thai buffet. :) Don't come expecting a 4 Star Restaurant Service.
The highlight to me is the beef salad, the thai dessert, pad thai, and the thai fried rice (the one with pineapple, raising, cashew, etc.). Come hungry!!!
The greatest Thai food in the area.
This used to be BANGKOK GARDEN and it isn't anymore, but the place is almost still the same... the food is very tasty and the prices are reasonable. We'll drive an hour just to come and eat here!
Maybe its a one time deal, maybe its not, but my first and only experience at this place is TERRIBLE. The service was so bad that I was pretty much ignored for over half an hour after I got seated, and I wasn't alone. Most people end up getting their own menu, they line up at the counter to order (This is supposed to be a sit-down restaurant!), and after the meal, you have to practically throw money at them because they wouldn't even bother giving you a bill.
The girlfriend and I arrived around 7:45PM on a friday night. Only about 4 tables in the restaurant were occupied. The waitress said she'd be right with us, and so we waited while her and a bus boy runs around the place, busy with food service and the such.
10 Minutes later, the waitress finally seated us, but did not give us any menu or even water. We ended up going up to the counter and getting or own sets of menu.
We waited, and we waited, but the waitress and the bus boy seems to just go back and forth from the kitchen to the other tables. At one point we finally got their attention and asked them to take our order, she said she'll be right with us.
We finally got some water after about 15 minutes of sitting there, but the bus boy couldn't take our order, so we again asked that someone take our order.
At this point, there were already 2 other groups of people getting seated, and one of them walked up to the counter to look for the menu too. Another group was done eating and ended up around the counter to ask for the bill.
8:36PM. a full 51 minutes after we got there, the waitress came by to take our order. All the while saying "I'll be right with you" to the numerous people coming to her either trying to find a menu, asking her to take their order, or even to pay.
The order came out pretty fast, and was correct. However, I did hear that a couple of the tables did not get the correct order.
We see that people were having a hard time waiting for the bill, so we asked for it right as the food came. The food, by the way, was so-so. The price was certainly good, and they give you a good portion. Curries and main courses are between $7 and $8.
Conclusion? Judging from the past reviews, the food isn't too bad, and are a good value. The only time I would come back would be their lunch buffet, where no service is required.
