For the weary traveler coming from the Washington DC area or Baltimore to the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia, Moorefield is usually a mandatory pit stop.  Whether summertime pursuits in Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls, the Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area, or the Monongahela National Forest, or wintertime activities in Canaan Valley, Timberline, Snowshoe, or White Grass Cross Country Ski area, Moorefield is the gateway to these.  Aromas in Moorefield provides a great respite to the journey.

I've been there several times on the way to and from Snowshoe, and each time it seems to get better.  Housed in what used to be a 7-11, it is a much better use for a building.  The owner, JD, greets each guest and is quite atune to customer comments.

The place is furnished like a modern coffee house, with outdoor magazines all over the place.  Unfortunately, there is no outdoor seating, which would be the icing on the cake for that place, as the immense parking lot is never full and could certainly be improved with al fresco seating.

The coffee is roasted and ground right on the premises.  Whether whole milk, skim or soy, my cappuccino is always frothy and succulent.  My lunch time stops there with my Black Lab also feature one of their panini sandwiches and dog biscuits for Thunder.  The dog biscuits are on an honor system to benefit the local animal shelter, something else that impresses me about the place.  Besides their paninis and sandwiches, their salads are made with organic components from one of the local farms.

There are precious few coffee houses between DC and Snowshoe/Canaan Valley.  Aromas fills the void and makes the halfway point stop quite welcome.
