I found Aroma Restaurant because of Jenny K! I was in the Silverlake area and our group decided on some Italian. (Note to self: Black Hogg is also nearby... another place to try)
We showed up to the restaurant around 7pm on a Sunday and were seated right away. The restaurant was pretty empty at that time. Our waiter was so wonderful it seems like he could have been the owner of the restaurant. He was excited about every dish, knew the five or six specials off menu items for the night, and made good suggestions on what his favorite dishes are.
I was able to try the Mushroom Risotto, the Seafood Linguini, and the burata cheese appetizer. In addition to that, the restaurant brought out bread and a tomato bruschetta for everyone.
The bruschetta was great and the bread was very well buttered. We ate our burata cheese with the bread that we had at the table. When the server came to our table with the burata he was nice enough to scoop the burata onto everyone's plates.
Between the seafood linguini and the mushroom risotto with came out afterwards, I loved the mushroom risotto more.
The seafood linguini was so seafood-y that even the linguini by itself tasted like you were taking a bit into the ocean. There were tons of seafood pieces in it, from octopus to shrimp to calamari.
The mushroom risotto was super cheesy and creamy and it was topped with what seems like sautéed in butter mushrooms the regular button mushrooms as well as shitake mushrooms. That was also a pretty big dish.
The only negative about Aroma is the prices. Each dish is around $20. Parking: They have a shared parking lot with other customers of the shopping center. -

Quality, homemade Italian food, at reasonable prices - How can you go wrong?
The outside is not the prettiest setting - in a strip mall with 7-11, a shoe repair and a laundromat. The inside dining area doesn't have the best Feng Shui. But my carry-out orders have all been a home run! I love the ravioli and the cannelloni. My fiance loves all of their chicken dishes. The people who run the place are super friendly and helpful. I'm glad to have this place in my neighborhood. :) -
Review from AJ R.
I REALLY enjoy this place as a kind of alternate to basic American breakfast. They have lots of different takes on things that are normal breakfast food. Very healthy, and refreshing I guess I would say.
I have never been here except for breakfasty kind of food but one can assume that if they can pull off breakfast so strongly, then the rest of the menu must be good.... because breakfast is tricky and people have a modifier for EVERYthing.
If you haven't checked this place out, definitely give it a go. -

This review is solely based on a take-out order of clam spaghetti. Which was DELISH!
My auntie and uncle nicely picked this up for me for dinner. I have never had a clam spaghetti with such quality ingredients. Clams in the shell, broccolini, tomato, and a white wine sauce. YUM! The portion was huge - definitely enough for two meals. I would love to visit this restaurant and see what else they have to offer. -

We came here to meet a friend.
This place has its own parking lot and valet. However, there was street parking when we went.
This place has a nice indoor and outdoor set-up. We sat indoor because we didn't notice the heating area outside until we were departing.
This place was semi-busy when we went. There were large groups and small groups and couples here.
I ordered:
- Expresso con panna (I think it is called something else in their menu). This was delicious. I haven't had much experience with expresso and I'm usually not a fan of whip cream, but decided to give it a shot anyways. After I was half way through, I kind of wished I ordered a double.
- Dessert a la mode -- I can't remember what we had.
I also picked up the chocolate chip cake/bread on the way out to give to the next couple friends we were seeing.
Everyone enjoyed the cake/ bread. It had the right amount of sweetness which was perfect. -

This place is fun, in that old-timey Italian way. Coming from the East Coast, it's a restaurant genre I am very fond of. The food is definitely more classical than modern Italian, so while not necessarily innovative, everything is done very well. I tried the mushroom mousse appetizer, linguine with white clam sauce and veal saltimbocca. All very good. Plus, the service is excellent.

The food at Aroma is really good! I could count on one hand the number of Italian Places in Aroma's league. The menu offers enough selections, but there are always a myriad of specials to order and the specials are extremely good. I had linguini with clam sauce, which was heavy enough to fill me up, but light enough to enjoy the delicate quality of the sauce.
Everyone at my table was thrilled with their orders, as well. If I had to knock Aroma for any reason, I would have to say it's the setting at a strip mall in Silverlake. Probably not a place to take a first date unless you are trying to impress him/her with good food because the food at aroma is top notch. -

I signed up for Yelp just to give Aroma 5 stars. Cozy, classy and intimate (and yes, in a strip mall), with outstanding Italian food and the warmest service in LA, period. The specials monologue (that's what it is, so listen closely!) is my second favorite part of my visit, following the consistently delicious food. We're lucky to have an old-school place like this in Silver Lake.

Good food, good service. They give you complimentary bruchetta. They only have wine, no cocktails. The pasta is all made very fresh.
Sooo.. I'm actually lactose intolerant but I can usually handle "fake cheeses" like on pizza and stuff without a problem. But here they use the good stuff... and oh man did I pay later that night. But worth it. -

A quaint little restaurant which holds roughly 30 customers, we stumbled across it while driving back to our hotel, hoping that something would catch our eye. I'm glad we stopped here.
I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and a flourless chocolate cake, both of which were pretty good. Although my mom said the Alfredo dish was the best she'd ever had, I have to say it was not the best I have ever had. It was really good, but I have had better in other Italian restaurants. The flourless chocolate cake was good but the consistency was a little bit less dense than what I am used to. It was topped with strawberries and some strawberry syrup. I inhaled it nevertheless.
I would go back here. The service was superb, all of the staff incredibly friendly. The other people in my party inhaled their food and said it was excellent--although I couldn't tell you what they ate. -

Aroma is such a great place! The food is phenomenal. I'm always satisfied when I go there. I always end up with the sweet waiter who is so personable and somehow remembers me when I haven't gone in for months.
The menu is fantastic, the pasta just melts in your mouth. High quality food, for sure! The location and the outside of the restaurant make it look like it's not a nice restaurant, but looks are deceiving. The inside is very nice and intimate. Definitely a good date spot. -

They met with my first prerequisite for five stars...man, can they cook a steak! My friend got the culotte steak, which was one of their specials...like me, she loves her beef still mooing. And it was perfect: cold in the middle (as a rare steak is supposed to be!), and it was served on a bed of greens lightly sprinkled with balsamic vinegrette. This gave it a nice acidic taste.
I would say that I wish I had gotten that, but my own dish was also amazing. I got the chicken aroma, which I guess is always a special of some kind. This time, it was chicken roulade, stuffed with spinach and Parmesan, and topped with a creamy brandy sauce. SO GOOD. I was practically licking the plate when I'd finished with the tasty chicken.
My other dining companions got the gnocchi (also a special), which was freshly made. They said they were like tasty, fluffy pillows...when I tried one, they were right! Very light, but with a little ricotta in the center.
This is one of the few times where I would have been happy with any of the entrees each of us had. The service was wonderful...the waiter was very attentive, and recited the specials with relish (rightfully so!). As the other reviews have stipulated, be sure to listen to the specials before deciding on the entree...they had several options! I do wish I could have tried the buffalo mozzarella appetizer, but we were going to a concert afterward and didn't want to overeat!
The wine is a bit pricey, but we had a bottle of the most inexpensive chianti, and it was also quite tasty.
Don't let the unremarkable exterior fool you! This place was delicious! -

Still so good!!!
Tonight we had the mushroom mouse with parmesan crisps in a truffle cream sauce! YUMMMM
I had eggplant parm which is :) so good, Colby had the meat raviolis in pink sauce which he ate all of, and once again the fresh crispy edge bread was to die for. The staff is also so nice and the quality of food is superb.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Great dining and excellent service - I usually get the chef's specials (either seafood or possibly steak) depending on what I'm feeling. We usually get a couple of drinks with food, so it can get pricey; but the creme brulee makes up for it! Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for great italian and good ambiance. 4/5 because parking can suck if its a weekend.

I come to LA a lot for work and to see theater and visit friends. Tonight I was on my own and Aroma Restaurant was really such a nice surprise.
It's such a kick to find a sweet little restaurant like this tucked away next to a liquor store in a nondescript mini-mall on Sunset. I was surprised, first of all, at the number of fresh, delicious specials. I had a mango salad with arugula, asparagus, shrimp, calamari, tomatoes, and sweet bell peppers. Very delicious. I ate so much of the crispy hot bread and butter that I was surprised at how hungry I was for the main course: a lovely spaghetti and shrimp with a fresh, nicely garlicky tomato sauce, the pasta perfectly al dente.
I want to make special mention--especially since I was dining alone on a Friday night--of the warm attentive service. Jaime made me feel welcome and very well taken care of. I look forward to returning to Aroma whenever I'm next in town. -

Fabulous little Italian eatery in Silver Lake. Service was great and the food was very very tasty. We got the mushroom appetizer, the Osso Bucco, and the fresh fish of the day (I think it was a bass). Great combination of food, ambiance, and service.
Parking can be a bit of a challenge but that's Silver Lake for ya. -

Do NOT be fooled by this place's enticing exterior, because although the environment is pleasant you will not have a decent time. My experience there was horrible due to the really bad service. I'm not exactly the most picky person when it comes to places, but whenever you have to call your waitress more than 3 or 4 times its clear that there's a problem. From the hostess to the waitresses (yes I had to deal with more than one) they just dont seem to want to be there. And although I can understand why, it does affect your time there.
Don't get me wrong the food was good, but I didn't enjoy my meal 'cause every step before and after eating was a headache. Perhaps the management needs to motivate this place's employees, but it's no way to make your customers feel. -

I took my parents to this restaurant for lunch on Father's Day, and we loved it!
Our waiter, Nacho, was incredibly sweet and charming. On top of the complimentary warm bread (served with butter or olive oil and vinegar), we also got complimentary bruschetta and complimentary mini-quiche slices served with little balls of mozzarella cheese topped with herbs.
The appetizer we actually ordered, a mushroom appetizer with crisp parmesan slices and a rich white cream sauce, was really tasty. Nacho also was kind enough to split the dish perfectly into three for us. The appetizer was a special, but when we asked, Nacho told us that if we ever came back when a special was gone but we specifically requested it, the chef would probably remember it and prepare it for us anyway.
For his entree, my father ordered off of the regular lunch menu and got the linguini seafood. He said the seafood was prepared perfectly and the tomato sauce was great.
My mother and I shared two specials. We had a special chicken dish, pounded and stuffed with spinach and cheese, served in a rich mustard cream sauce. The other special was the pasta special, penne with sundried tomatoes, copious amounts of wonderfully goopy cheese, and a tomato sauce with a splash of vodka.
I have to say, as a BIG fan of sauces, cheeses, and all things creamy, this place does not disappoint. They are not stingy with their sauce. At other restaurants, I sometimes find myself with meat left on my plate for which I wish had more of some sort of delicious topping it started with, but every dish I had at Aroma had sauce to spare, and if I had had any more room in my delightfully full belly for bread, I could have sopped it up and continued to enjoy it.
My mom is already talking about how when my grandparents come visit in December we should all go to Aroma... and deciding a restaurant is worthy of my grandparents is a big compliment. -

This place is delicious!
The bruschetta is a really good and flavorful appetizer
The pasta was really tasty and the portions were good too.
I ordered the Linguine with clams in white wine sauce... mmm! Yummy!
It's a small restaurant and the environment is very cozy and intimate.
Nice stainless steel kitchen and counters, looked pretty badass.

The food is good here, really good! The waitstaff is fantastic, they are so nice and the waiter is very attentive and passionate about the food. I couldn't give it 5 stars because of a couple of drawbacks: The atmosphere! I'm hoping the manager/owner of Aroma will read this, because seriously, your food is fantastic and your location is great too - please improve the atmosphere. The decor is very cheesy, there is a strange smell inside that is a combo of bad men's cologne and cleaning solutions and the music was horrible. An italian restaurant should smell like garlic and tomatoes (or at least the smell of good food cooking in the back...) Elevator Muzak that you would hear in a hole in the wall thai food place. The neon sign outside really negates what your food and friendly service is all about. I think you will have more customers if you improve on the 'experience' which includes ambiance. Take notes from Cliff's Edge for instance, great lighting, candles, cool music, etc. Would love to see you busier so you don't go out of business. :)
The food is solid, standard good old fashioned italian food (although, my italian husband noted that it was strange they didn't have basic bolognese/spaghetti on the menu) The crab cake special was delicious and the sauces are great. -

If you like great food and great service, this is the place. I seldom go to other restaurants anymore because they're usually disappointing. At Aroma, the chef is amazing, the waitstaff couldn't be better and the whole experience is exactly the reason one would go out to dinner. Love Aroma!

Don't be fooled by where it's located at. I cannot recall this one server there but the service he gives I believe is the best I have ever had throughout LA. He seems to take pride in his job and actually enjoys engaging conversations with people and willingly describes every single details of the food they serve.
As for the food my one and only recommendation there would be linguini seafood! -

I love this place. They make you feel like you're part of their family when you come in. The food is always amazing and the service impeccable. I have yet to order something off the regular menu because every time I go there, their specials are too yummy to pass up. Their prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is extremely warm. This place rocks!

Oh, man! Why isn't this place more crowded?
My husband and I live within a mile of Aroma and it's become our go-to for quiet date nights, dinner with friends and special events. Everyone we've brought here has loved it too - win!
Being pescatarian, we've only tasted a fraction of the menu, but we highly recommend the shrimp and penne special, the gnocci special (do it!), the mushroom appetizer and mango salad.
But put down the menu and prick up your ears because the specials here are where it's at. Drool. -

Totally and completely fabulous.
Everything we had here a few weeks ago was superb. There was a chicken special that blew my mind, but because I had too many bottles of vino, I can't remember what it was.
The dishes here are wonderful, the service is even better, and the fact that it's a hidden find is awesome.
Go to the Thirsty Crow for a pre-dinner or post-dinner cocktail and you've got a really great Silverlake night, all within walking distance, just like that.Listed in: Favorite Restaurants in LA, My Favorite East Side (Los…

Exactly what a quaint Italian restaurant should be like! Wait to hear the specials cause they are more exciting than the menu. But everything is prepared fresh & simple & you can see it being made. & if you want to make a little change, they will do it. Good little wine list & just has a good familial vibe. My life partner & I love the place.

Los Angeles, CA
I normally don't like Italian food unless I'm eating a cioppino or gnocchi... Originally, I wanted to go to Colori Kitchen but they were closed that day :/ Thus, I decided to take a leap of faith and try another Italian restaurant that served neither cioppino nor gnocchi.
After a friend's recommendation, we went to Aroma Restaurant, which is located in a sketch plaza. The food was amazing, service was impeccable, ambiance was lovely.
To start out, we received the complementary bruschetta and warm crispy bread. For appetizers, we ordered the crepes with different cheeses in a cheese cream sauce and truffles (special of the night). Oh my god... this blew my mind. So good!! I swear truffles are like my crack.... I'm addicted after the first bite.
My friend got the grilled shrimp with asparagus risotto, which was really really good! I'm usually not a risotto fan, but this risotto was great! Not to mention... the shrimps were plump and succulent.... mmm yum.
I got the linguine with clams special, which came with freshly diced tomatoes and basil in a white wine and garlic sauce. The sauce of the linguine was light and delicious and the clams were surprisingly large and juicy.
For desserts, we got a tiramisu to share. The slice of tiramisu was enough to satisfy both of us and the tiramisu was pretty good (though I must say that I have gotten better before). We were also given house coffee along with our dessert. **This is where I will point out the ONLY bad aspect of the meal.....Our coffee was lukewarm!! Not even slightly hot... but lukewarm!! We also got the coffee halfway through dessert instead of before our tiramisu.
Other than the last part... this meal was close to perfect! :) The food was really really good and very affordable. The appetizer was $12 (2 plates of crepes), $18 for each entree, the tiramisu and coffee was around $11.. Overall, dinner was around $32 per person.
Definitely coming back! -

Yelp to the rescue! Silverlake - where to eat? "Go to Aroma... 4 1/2 stars..." says Yelp
Aroma is an unpretentious little restaurant in located in a strip mall on Sunset Blvd. Yeah, ignore the cheesy strip mall decor on the outside, behind this cheesy facade is a great little restaurant - great food, great service and great wines. Nacho, our server was not only personable, he knew his foods and wines. The list of specials was as long as the menu, Nacho recite this list and patiently provided explanations and recommendation to the four of us.
To start us off, Nacho place the most fluffy bread with the lightest crispy crust that I've ever had on our table. I ordered the Linguini Seafood ($21). fresh shrimps, scallops, calamari and manila clams in a light tomato based sauce with plenty of garlic over a bed of perfectly cooked pasta. The sauce and bread were so good together, I must gobbled up a whole loaf of bread.
Next time? You know, most restaurants have a couple of items on the menu that catches my eyes, at Aroma... heck I can't decide now, there are just too many great sounding dishes! -

Los Angeles, CA
Don't be fooled by the mini-mall exterior and the bright red sign. I wish someone could have told me that, when we drove by multiple times looking for a gourmet-y Italian restaurant.
And don't be fooled by the small mini-mall interior and the tiny size, because the welcoming atmosphere and super nice waiters will make you feel oh-so-warm inside. The food is delicious and fresh, and it's not just all about the pasta, and everything is just perfect for when you're craving nice-but-not-fancy Italian dinners. Not mind-blowing food, but still yummy.
I feel like I'm writing the same review for every Italian restaurant, so I'll stop now.
Oh but yeah, my only gripe was that as attentive and super sweet and nice as everyone was in the beginning, they totally forgot about us once the food was on our table, and we basically had to lasso in a waitress to get our check. So booooo. But hey, it's probably an isolated incident, they always seem really busy, blah blah blah I won't take it personally. -

Los Angeles, CA
After hearing so many rave reviews from relatives, Ben F. and I reserved dinner here on New Year's Eve. We walked to the restaurant which was a good idea since it's located in a stripmall. Stripmall = crappy parking.
I had made a reservation days ahead - yet we were seated near the entrance, right next to the kitchen. I wasn't too happy about that considering I was expecting a more romantic evening with my fiancé.
With that aside, the service was excellent - very friendly and fast. I ordered the Veal in White Wine with Lemon and Capers and Ben had the Filet Mignon in Red Wine and Herb Sauce. Just thinking about my dish is making me salivate - the lemons and capers really stood out and the veal was really tender. Ben declared that his filet mignon was delicious, but wished that the meat itself had more of a chance to stand out amongst the strong herb flavors.
Aroma is not the kind of place I would frequent, but overall we had a nice meal. -

Los Angeles, CA
I'm wonderfully in love with this goofy, charming, exquisite restaurant. Never mind that it is very small and in a mini-mall next door to a nail salon - this is a five star restaurant right up there with One Pico and Valentino (the chef at Aroma is a former chef of Valentino).
There is a mushroom parmesan appetizer that makes me want to cry - request it - it's delicious. The filet mignon and veggies are always cooked to perfection. There are always at least five new specials that I want to order all of. If the exquisite high-class large portions aren't enough to warm your heart, the sweet and welcoming staff will - they are such a nice group of people. They are always welcoming the entire family - children and all.
It's a five star restaurant and a warm neighborhood spot!Listed in: Dangerous, Dirty and Delicious

Came here Saturday with a friend before heading out of town with him. We decided to stop here for a late, healthy *gasp* lunch and were very pleased.
This place is GREAT.. The food is amazingly fresh and huge portions. I had the Amora (something) Sandwich which is made of veggies and pan fried cheese (well ok not perfectly healthy) but still very delicious. Their house salad is superb!
My friend had a chicklen pasta dish which also was delicious!
We sat next to a famous actor just I can't place his name but know he is famous as I have seen him in movies!
*Like a young Anthony Hopkins or whoever played the bad guy in Silence of the Lambs*
BTW its a bit on the pricey side too! A bit more than I thought it would be for lunch. -

Really? I mean really?
I don't get all these rave reviews of this place.
Its overpriced for how the place looks & feels. But then we thought the food must be really good if so many place rave about a place like this. They have 2 pages of Menu but the friendly Server will say the specials which might be 5 pages in itself. It seems the specials are usually the same everyday. You can tell by how proficiently our server was talking about them. By the time he was done I had forgotten all the specials.
Then the food took a long time to arrive. We thought another good sign. These guys must cook with love & care:).
After we had our 1st bite our jaws dropped. The veal was too salty. The kitchen seem to be stocked with Sysco.
The staff was very friendly. I give them that much. But the food is one of the worst in Silverlake. I can't believe so many people rave about this place.
If you wanna eat Italian food in a South American restaurant go to El Caserio down the street on Silverlake BLVD. Its right below 101. Its good a great ambience. You would probably pay the same price & it will be worth it. -

I expected 5 stars by reading Yelp reviews.
Pros:
Big portion
Friendly staff
The shrimp salad with mango and caper was interesting
Cons:
The fillet mignon's sauce was little too salty for me, don't get me wrong, it was good, but not 5 stars.
It's not $$, it's $$$.

Love, love, love this place.
This is THE restaurant to go to in LA if you're craving quality Italian food.
As other reviewers have said, there's nothing special about the ambience or the exterior of the restaurant (it's in a strip mall), but: "Don't judge a book by its cover!!"
I've been here a handful of times now, and I've always been impressed by their food and service. We always get the same waiter, and he's a really sweet guy. No need to look at the menu, because there are more specials of the day than there are items on the actual menu. The waiter is very knowledgeable on the specials and will have recommendations, because he tries them out himself during lunch.
I've tried the pasta, meats, and fish here, but my favorite is always the fish of the day. The chef cooks it perfectly. Last time I came here, I had the herbed salmon with balsamic reduction sauce. Very tasty!! -

I've been wanting to come for the a long time. Since it's walking distance from my house, and I drive by it everyday, there's no excuse for me not to come. I heard a lot of good things about this place. The chef was awarded for something in 2006. The restaurant was also awarded for something few years back. So, I'm proud to have such establishment in my hood.
About a month ago, my bf and I decided to try it out. I would be lying, if I had no expectation. I had some expectation, since this place was highly praised by so many Yelpers.
We tried it, and it wasn't bad. It was good. This is a small bistro that offers bistro food with fine dinning prices.
