Great place to work during the week. I've found myself here twice now and each time has been a nice experience. The wifi is alright, 3mbps down and 1mbps up. It could be faster but I was able to do a Skype call and listen to a live podcast, let alone light stuff like email and surfing the web.
I also got great service and everyone was really nice.
Lastly the prices seemed inline with most similar upscale locations. I personally didn't find it overly priced.
I recommend it. -

After walking to Rosie's Dog Beach in Belmont Shore I stopped in for some refreshing gelato on a warm Saturday in January. My dog definitely appreciated being able to chill on the patio while I enjoyed the gelato. The service was great and friendly. A perfect spot to hang out and watch the people go by.
I look forward to coming back to try their breakfast or lunch. -

I just came back from going to Aroma di Roma. After reading some reviews, I was expecting great coffee in a nice atmosphere.
I went there with my mom, and received Horrible service, in a muggy atmosphere.
The girl that rang us up, was cold, and stuck up. After we ordered, she started to help others that were in line after us. Rang them up, and served them with a smile.
Then, told us she would get someone else to make our coffees, (not sure why she couldnt make them) The 'someone else" finally came and immediately started to make a coffee for the guy behind us, (he's friend apparently)
When I FINALLY got my iced coffee, he handed it to me without a straw and said ' I wish i had a straw to give you," and then started helping yet another person.
Minutes later, we get a straw and the coffee wasn't even very good.
We left, disappointed and feeling like our business was not wanted.
I will not be coming back here again. -

I really wanted to like this place...but after two visits to this place, I have to give it only one star. The first visit we had here was after a few people told us the gelato was great, so we went. The flavor I got had tons of ice crystals in it and did not taste very good at all. Also, it was a bit expensive, but whatever.
The second time we went, I made a reservation not knowing this was the same place because I didn't remember the name. I just went off star ratings looking for italian food. Anyway, we get there (4 people) and there are only two others there eating on that Monday night. We get seated, and the waitress brings us two menus. For four people, you would imagine that four menus would not be a stretch, but seemed like it was for this girl so I asked for a couple more. After a minute she came back and told us that they only had 4 menus and the other two people were using the other ones. WHAT THE FRICK...seriously! How do you have only 4 menus if you have 10-15 seats in the place. What happens if more than 4 people come for dinner. Anyway, we waited about 5 minutes and got the other two menu's.
Once we all had menus, the stupid things were impossible to read outside. They have this stupid plastic on them and are printed on black background with an idiotic font that makes it damn near impossible to read. No I'm not old, late 20's, and have pretty good eyes, and the other 3 people with me also had great eyes, so it wasn't that we couldn't see them...it was just piss poor presentation and no thought given to what may be usable. We ended up taking the sheets out of the plastic sleeves which made it easier to read and then ordered.
We got appetizers, salads, and entree's. Now when you do this at a normal restaurant, that is the order food should come out in... apparently not with the geniuses working here. We got our overpriced appetizer first, which was just bread with diced tomato's on it which they charged like $7 for four pieces...not that great.
Next, we sat there for 45 minutes with empty water and drink glasses while the waitress worked the gelato counter and coffee machines for people that kept walking in. We finally got our food 50 minutes after ordering! This included our salads at the same time as our entrees...would have been nice to eat those during the 50 minutes we were sitting around.
The food wasn't anything great; the sauce on the lasagna tasted like chef boyardee...not good! My brother in law ordered a chicken dish which was supposed to come with potatoes and veggies...after a minute of eating we remembered this and noticed there were no potatoes on the plate. Looking around for the waitress, she is once again gone.
So we just eat the meal and when we are done she comes by and asks how everything was. We let her know there were no potatoes and she said she would go and ask the cook...she came back a few minutes later and told us that "there was no room on the plate because he had given you more veggies" WHAT THE HELL...what does that even mean! So you weren't out of potatoes, but you wanted to give me more veggies...why would you put potatoes on the menu then!
The incompetence at this place was unbelievable, and it took about 20 minutes to close out our check as well...if I could give this place negative stars I would...I will never be going back here!Comment from Tim T. of Aroma di Roma 1/24/2012

This place is great!!!! It brings back wonderful memories of my trip to Italy. The coffee is amazing and the breakfast is good too. I just wish it was a little larger since it tends to get super packed no matter what time of day or night you go.

I've been so in love with Aroma di Roma for the past 4 years that I never even wrote a review! Anytime I would THINK about writing a review, i would start craving their delectable chai and the breakfast bruscetta and then i would ditch the review idea and just go eat instead!
Really, though: this place is one of a kind for so many reasons. Everything I have ever had off the menu I have later severely craved. The paninis put all other so called "paninis" to shame. NO CRUST=BEST PANINI EVER!
I highly recommend trying ALL the breakfast items: bruscetta, sexy bagel, even the toast is like no other!
The vibe of Aroma di Roma is so cool, so welcoming and very community oriented. Its small, but everyone is so friendly: the staff and the costumers.
Now that I've got it in my head, I have to now go pick up a chai and a panini . . . good thing I work a block away :) -

I know my one star review won't sway you away from trying this place, and it shouldn't.
Please, do go here.
See for yourself.
I may have just been the wrong person to go at the wrong time on the wrong day to the wrong place with the wrong staff serving me.
Here are my tips for you:
* Order at the counter -- table service is sssllloooww and poor and overly apologetic about it, but does nothing to rectify anything.
(hint: incessantly asking me if I want more water when what I really want and need is coffee does not count as rectifying anything)
* Also, order just coffee if you can help it. When you finally get it, it will be good.
* The food was......fine. I had uovo Benedetto, which tasted decent, but my taste buds weren't exactly having multiple orgasms in my mouth.
* The uovo purgatorio was basically an over cooked egg on panini bread with watery, aluminum can tasting, thin Ragu-esque sauce on top. Maybe some cheese, too.
* If you have a dog or some little kids, feel free to bring them and let them roam around off of their respective leashes, too. It's super mellow, and the place is definitely large enough to accommodate that sort of rambunctiousness. (I wish there was a font for sarcasm)
* Next, it wouldn't be a bad idea for you to bring your headphones and be listening to some Dean Martin or something. The music at Aroma di Roma can only be described as etherial, new age, massage type music. I was all like, "huh?"
For a minute, I thought I was hearing the beginning of Lionel Richie's "Hello," but it turns out that simply was not the case.
* I'm no linguist, but I think that "Aroma di Roma" means "Scent of Rome." This place smelled like 2nd Street in Belmont Shore.
Am I splitting hairs? Maybe. But also, I just may be on to something....Comment from Tim T. of Aroma di Roma 9/29/2011

I received a message from Aroma di Roma today. The owner apologized for the mishap and offered me a full refund. It would have been nice if the waiter had offered a refund immediately after I complained to him, but I do appreciate that the owner reached out to me to remedy the situation.

Parking: what can I say, anyone who's ever been here knows that parking on 2nd street is as horrible as it can get when you want to look for free streetside parking. Sometimes you can get lucky or sometimes you end up driving up and down corona for 5minutes (2/5)
Wait time: there was only one person helping out at the counter when my friend and I visited, so even though there were only 3 people in front of us, it took what felt like 10minutes to get our order taken. Trust me, it may not feel that long just reading about it, but standing in a line for 10minutes is really loooong and ackward. After we ordered our food, it also took a while for us to get our food when it was already right there (3/5)
Quality: GREAT muffins/dough/bread thingy I forgot the name sorry x_ x!! I think it's called a profiterole. We ordered two gelato flavored to fit inside it. I had amaretto and my friend picked tiramisu. They were both delicious and I would definitely come back just to try their actual food menu too! (5/5)
Price: sixish dollars to split between two people is definitely worth it for that delicious heaven of taste in your mouth (5/5)
Service: The black guy that took our order was friendly and I'm sure he's very friendly towards everyone who's there. I could literally hear people speaking in italian and they have a tv on that's showing soccer shows all the time which I thought was pretty cool (5/5)

I just recently moved out to the Belmont Shore area and was looking for a place within walking distance that served a good breakfast. I have been to Aroma di Roma three times now and have had a pleasant experience each time.
I've had their breakfast panini and it was pretty decent, though the eggs were a bit overcooked once. I think the real prize here is the Uova Benedetto which is poached eggs, prosciutto on toasted foccacia bread and topped with pesto. It's not a huge meal, so big eaters beware.
The espresso has a good flavor to it, though I think the drinks can be made just a bit hotter.
The staff is very friendly here, which makes me want to make a return visit, or two. -

Came w/ a buddy here for their gelato... Which was very short-lived (since it's in such small quantity) but sweet. (: I actually liked how the dessert was so small so that I don't eat too much!
Paninis here are delicious as well. I tried their tomato/mozarella one & also tried the panini w/ goat cheese in it. Loved both, but if you're not up for strong cheese, avoid the goat!
Otherwise, loved the place! (: The servers are super friendly & adorable! (Both the guy & the girl, who hinted that they needed workers LOL) Will definitely go back for some more of their sweet Italian gelato, & to try some of the other yummy things on their menu. 6: -
Review from Kathy W.
Found out about this place through Yelp. Today I decided to bike ~15 miles round trip to try this place and Paradis down the street. To say the least I am not disappointed.
Uova Benedetto ($7.95)
- Poached eggs, prosciutto, provolone, pesto, basil, foccacia bread
- simple dish but very good
- enjoyed every single bite
- good amount of prosciutto
- the yolk was still a bit runny; just the way I like it
- the pesto definitely added flavor
- definitely would order again
White Mocha-Angelo
- Espresso, steamed milk, & white chocolate, topped w/whipped cream
- my favorite drinks at any coffee shop
- a bit sweet; would ask them to reduce the sugar content next time
- one of the best white mochas I've had (the other being at Portfolio; review: http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
- espresso is palatable in a good way
- served at the perfect temperature
- also some latte art didn't hurt
According to the cashier/waitress the most ordered item is the Sexy Bagel ($4.95), which is choice of bagel topped w/cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, basil, pesto, salt, pepper, & olive oil. The Belgian waffle isn't the squarish type that they have in Belgian. Here it is served as the usual circular waffle. Not sure if it is really "Belgian" since I didn't try it. The guy sitting next to me did devour it so it must be pretty good.
Gelato: Large variety of flavors to choose from. I only sampled the Stracciatella which is basically a chocolate chip ice cream. The gelato was a bit icy. I personally prefer getting ice cream at Paradis (http://www.yelp.com/bi...).
Environment: limited seating inside (about 4 tables for 2). Outside has (2) 4 person tables and (2) 2 person tables. There is a larger table on the left side of the store for about 8 people. The other seating was bar-style along the rail of the store for about 10 people. The "bar" seats are perfect for people watching or just staring out to Second Street. It can get pretty loud sometimes so not the ideal study location.
Service: cashier/waitress was very friendly. She noticed that I had a hard time deciding what to order and offered some recommendations. The barista also had no trouble applying my 20% coupon.
Parking: metered-parallel parking available on Second Street and around the corner for $0.25/half-hour (max 2 hours). If you're not willing to spend $1 for 2 hours, then drive/walk a little farther into the residential area for free parking. If you can't parallel park, find a friend who can or be green and bike/walk here.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. The food and espresso made my morning. However, what definitely put the cherry on top was the 20% off coupon for checking in on the Yelp app. Unfortunately, it is only for one-time use. Nevertheless, I would definitely come back and would recommend this place to others. -
Review from Roland L.
I sort of stumbled upon Aroma di Roma by accident.
Wandering aimlessly in Belmont Shores, I was rapidly growing frustrated not knowing where I was going to have lunch. I was simply bewildered! I wasn't feeling La Creperie Café. Yelp...why can't you help me figure out what I want to eat? Finally, I noticed Aroma di Roma in Yelp app!
Parking is hectic down here. If you cannot locate parking, metered or paid lot, try your hand a little further east of the 2nd St bridge just past the cross street N Sienna Dr. Tons of free 2 hour spots. It's roughly a 1/4 mile walk to Aroma di Roma from there!
Aroma di Roma is a small Cafe, with minimal indoor dining and predominantly patio seating. For those of you who've been to Roma, Italia, you'll have a mini flashback upon entering the cafe. They recapture that vibe quite well.
Ordering at the counter. To the left, the espresso machine. To the right, an enchanting display of various gelati! If I'm not mistaken, table service is available, but during the daytime it's primarily order at the counter. If you sit at a table expecting table service during lunch hours, you may find yourself waiting a while to order.
AdR's super friendly & helpful staff were eager to recommend something to my liking. I expressed that it was my first time there and the wonderful lady working the register recommended a half dozen things immediately. I decided to go with the Pesto Pizza and a Double Caffe Latte.
Pesto Pizza: 4/5
Going to Italia really ruined pizza for me. I can only tolerate thin crust, Neapolitan style pizza. AdR's Pesto Pizza was certainly tasty. With saltiness added by the use of sun dried tomatoes, the pesto flavor and accompanied tomato slices seemed to have been accentuated. There is a certain expectation I have with pizza crust. Although this crust did not exactly disappoint, the super crunchy toasty edge was the deal breaker prohibiting me from giving this 5 stars.
Double Caffe Latte: 3.5/5
Being touted as an Italian Caffe, my expectations for this caffe latte were high. Although the espresso was not bitter, somewhat sweet and had a decent flavor, my espresso drink was rather watery.
Being that I sat in the patio area adjacent to the glass, the entire time I couldn't pry my eyes off the alluring gelati! I could not resist this frozen treat. So after I inhaled my pizza, I walked back inside and ordered a large cup of gelato. I chose two flavors: Limoncello and Dark Chocolate.
Limoncello and Dark Chocolate Gelati: 4.5/5
Pairing limoncello was tricky but was a no brainer to compliment it with dark chocolate. I really enjoyed this liqueur-based lemon gelato, as the essence of the alcohol with slight tartiness was incredibly delicious. Perhaps I was expecting more bitterness from the dark chocolate gelato, but I could not complain as there was no disputing the rich flavor of chocolate. Imagine my euphoria as tasted the spoonful of both flavors! It was like a "Double Rainbow All The Way Across The Sky...YEAH, So Intense!" http://www.youtube.com...
I'd love to come back and try a few more things, but since I do not make my way down to the LBC that often, chances are very slim of a return. But if I happen to find my way down here again, with an Italian craving, Aroma di Roma will undoubtedly be in my sights! -

I met someone here to do an interview for my boss because it was convenient for both myself and the interviewee, and because I'd been DYING to try it out.
I ended up getting a vanilla latte, but the guy behind the counter suggested an iced latte... I didn't really want that, but for some reason I agreed! Anyhow, it was good--I definitely enjoyed it. I have a sense, though, that I'd have been more pleased with it if it was hot. Anyhow, the atmosphere is wonderful, and the menu looks amazing! I am a coffee snob so I really cannot wait to come back here and get a drink where I can really taste their espresso. Maybe a morning coffee date with the hubby is in order? -

Sherberts are a little too sweet, but I suppose they're supposed to be that way. Gelatos are great. Espresso drinks are above average easy. I think we've had breakfast there once also, and satisfied.
Atmosphere is chill, you can count on a soccer game on the flat screen (though at times it can be lame leagues).
There's nothing Roman about it, unless by Roman you mean Gypsy since I've been there twice and heard Turkish spoken on the patio. They were pretty active in following the world cup and I think now have adopted the Spanish flag.
It's small but certainly cozy. You might have to get it and go on a more busier time. -

Review from Fia R.
2 girlfriends & I lost a bet to another girlfriend of ours, & the cost would be to dine-in from the winner's choosing AND pay whatever she orders =P. And that's how we ended up w/ an unexpectedly tiny, café-style Italian joint (obviously not something I'll pick if I were that winner), w/ only a few tables outside the patio. But since it was too cold that our sweaters weren't cozy enough, we took the biggest table inside, located right next to the tempting gelato stand.
Unfortunately we were saddened that the pastas weren't available on Sunday; they're only served from Thursday to Saturday "Weekend Dinner"--so, no curiously appetizing items like Pumpkin Ravioli & some Seafood Pasta -____-. Eventually here's the breakdown of our 4 main courses:
-Pesto Pizza ($9.95): 4 stars-
The execution may be plain, but I totally didn't mind a generous slather of that savory, gorgeous pesto sauce, w/ a good amount of those sultry sun-dried tomatoes, all over the crispy & minimally cheesy dish. MmMm, pesto........
-Toscana Panini ($7.95): 3 stars-
I felt like it was a wholesome yet splendidly crunchy feel as that Pesto pizza, since it had roughly the same ingredients; except it came w/ lettuce & super blah grilled chicken.
-Chicken Peperanato Panini ($7.95): 2 stars-
Umm, what could I say, other than the only stand-outs were the cheese & olives in it..
-Caprese Salad ($7.95): 2 stars-
Really!? We were all expecting something WITH some fluffy green leaves, not 3 pretty displays of 1/2 cut tomato w/ raw basil & glob of balsamic-drizzled mozzarella on top. Honestly I felt like I ate weak, bread-less & cold Margherita pizza, yet the mozzarella itself was decently mild. We assumed that all of the salads will have lettuce or the like, but sorry to my friend who chose this--it's a nah, nah, nah =/.
But thankfully the pizza & limitless gelato-samplings from a charming, friendly "Italian" server pardoned this place to deem 3.5 stars. So for $3.65 small, green cup of airy yet creamy goodness, I got the Amaretto (not a favorite of my friends, but I loved its almond-y, slightly risqué essence); Fruitti di Bosso (what a BERRY-licious sorbet that all 4 of us picked b/c it came "from the forest"); & Pistacchio (which is pronounced pih-STUCK-yo, & it oddly had to remind me of the Paulette macarons ^____^).
Although that pizza & creamy dessert impressed me enough, I'll only go if my girlfriends are in the Italian mood, if I want their coffee, OR, rarely, if I'm craving for their pastas--w/in Thursday to Saturday NIGHT =P. Again, 3.5, guys! -

LOVE!
I can only comment on the breakfast--but what a breakfast it is! Uovo Benedetto is amazing--poached egg, prosciutto, pesto, and basil all on toasted foccacia. Yeah, it's as it as sounds. Hands down, my favorite dish there. *drool.
Breakfast Bruschetta--tasty and would be an ordinary breakfast sandwich if it weren't served with pesto. Goes to show, that pesto can enhance anything!
Not full yet? Have an order of their freshly baked pastries. I don't remember what is called--but it's an italian croissant (while it looks like a croissant--texture is quite different. Denser, not as flaky). Your choice of chocolate, cream, or jam for a filling. Delicious!
And you can't visit a legit italian cafe without having some coffee or cappuccino. Absolutely wonderful.
Aroma di Roma is wonderful...and whenever I'm here, I can't help but be reminded of my time in Italy. This place is a gem. -

By far the best coffee place in Belmont Shore, and one of the finest I know in all of Southern California. Their drip coffee, which for a while I drank every morning, was always fresh, and their espresso drinks, which I occasionally treated myself to at night, are superb.
The owner, Tim, is usually around or behind the counter, and the staff are always helpful and good for a quick, pleasant chat.
I moved away from the neighborhood shortly after they began serving dinner, so I can't comment on their food. Next time I'm in town, though, I'll be sure to stop by for a cappuccino.Listed in: Best Coffee in Southern…

I tried the cone of gelato! I had the Ferrero rocher and Biscotti mixed up! It was good and smooth.. although it was kinda sweet! It was worth every penny I would say!
I would definitely come back to this place to either have breakfast or for another cone of gelato!!! YUMMY!

Review from Nikki M.
After living in Italy for a short while, I was deparate to find an Italian restaurant that has a menu that one would see in Rome. There are several Italian restaurants around that feture dishes from all over Italy, but none that have a truly Roman menu. Well, at least until I read the menu for Aroma di Roma online. Carbonara, all'amatriciana, cacio e pepe, pollo ai carciofi...this place is seriously Roman! I called up my girl Christina...my Rome roomate and travel buddy and told her about the menu. We were both immediately on board.
We came here on a Tuesday night ready for some carbonara. The place was fairly dead and no one was accommodating to let us know where to sit or anything. We were definitely confused, so we just sat down hoping to get service. Finally a young guy awkwardly comes over, "oh did you wanna eat here?" No, I think, I just want to sit like a weirdo at a cafe and stare at people as they walk by. Seriously dude, what gives? Anyways, once we get past that odd situation, the service improves a bit. He lets us know that they only have a chef on weekends and Wednesdays (I think that's what he said) and I'm suddenly seriously bummed. No carbonara or cacio e pepe today. It's hard to find this info on their website."But we do have paninis and pizzas," he says. All right, mostly redeemed. He brings us menus and I ordered proscuitto pizza. I was a little nervous that this guy might be making my pizza. After about 15 minutes my pizza arrives, a wonderful thin crust with fat slices of proscuitto...yum! Just like in Rome, where I became addicted to proscuitto pizza. My girl Christina was pleased too, and we were happy campers.
After we paid, we went inside to order gelato. The service definitely picked up, because our weird waiter was now extremely hospitable and offered us free samples while we couldn't make up our minds. The gelato was great and cured my hazelnut withdraws.
With a rocky start and almost stellar finish, Aroma di Roma made some seriously good cafe food. I'm looking forward to dinner on a weekend. I'm predicting 5-star on my update review.Listed in: That's Amore!, 2nd Street - Long Beach

This place is soooo good. Everything. Great prices too. Get the infamous bagel. Once you have it you cant stop thinking about it.
My only issue, and this is not about the food or service, is that they allow smoking in their outdoor dining area. This place really attracts smokers for some reason. I can never sit out front because literally everyone is smoking cigars and cigarettes. I can take one or two people but not 5 smokers around me. I just eat inside instead. -

OK, going to drop a 5 star here...mainly because they keep surprising me - which is much appreciated. I always think of coffee while walking by and forget to drop in for a bite to eat.
We've eaten here for breakfast a few times and it's a restaurant that makes us want to try something different. The Uova Benedetto- try it...great breakfast - full of taste and the poached eggs are always perfect...thank you.
Now we need to get there for lunch and dinner...a good Carbonara is on the radar. -

I came back for the infamous bagel sandwich, but something new caught my eye.
This smoked salmon, capers, onion concotion atop a wheat bagel. I asked the server to kindly make it into a sandwich. It was perfect. Like lox on a bagel, but 10 x better.
And for the first time in more than 5 years, I had a cone of gelato. Hazelnut flavor was the business, and on such a hot night in LB with record breaking weather, it was so smooth and rich. The best.Listed in: DELIS, COFFEE CRAVINGS, ROTD

Just visited this place for the first time tonight with my wife. Dinner was excellent. I highly recommend the pumpkin ravioli. Very tasty! The panini bread and garlic, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil spread was awesome, too!
This place has a nice relaxed atmosphere. Very Euro Cafe feel. Opens early, closes late. Seems like the type of place you could hang out any time of day. I'm definitely going back to try their breakfast, have some cappuccino, and use the free Wi-Fi.
The servers were very friendly and the owner was very personable.
Overall, we had a great experience.Comment from Tim T. of Aroma di Roma 3/1/2011

Wonderful food! Wonderful people who work there! My friend and I chose it because it looked the most like a casual (but delicious!) Italian cafe. No gaudy, wanna-be Italian decor. The food was absolutely delicious. The cappuccino's spot on and the Nutella Gelato.....amazing. I live pretty far from here but I plan to go back.

Love the decor of this place! Outside looks a bit shabby, but inside it's beautiful!
Kinda makes you feel like you're in another country (italy) haha.
Unfortunately I only got hot chocolate here, but I definitely wanna go back and try their coffee and gelato. They have some food stuff that looks delicious also. Will return with review part 2 once I do. -

I desperately want to give this place a 5 star because I love the neighborhood, the outdoor seating area and the company I was with. We went here for a cup of java one late evening. I think the waiter who served us was waay over caffeinated. We had the Espresso Machiato with a side of gelato. Both were okay, but not extraordinary.
I think Aroma di Roma might just be better at making Panini's on on a warmer day. I will have to re-review at another time once I come back for brunch.
Bon Appetit...winning the hearts of food lovers one tummy at a time! -

Ok so this cafe has expanded and it is now a restaurant. Our large group gathered for our friend's birthday dinner. We were helped by our friendly waitress who was informative and attentive.
Pros:
-They has so many varieties of beer to try...and no I'm not talking about your usual suspects. I doubt they have Bud Light or even Heineken.
-Friendly service
-Good tasty food
Cons:
-Prices..not cheap but not going to complain because you get quality food
-Disorganization...again I totally understand the confusion of the menu items because they are so new.
I had the pumpkin ravioli with butter sage sauce. And I have to say...it was soooo good. I have already told plenty of people about it that I'm sure I'll turn some people into fans.
Aroma di Roma, till next time. Hopefully by then you will have more than 2 menus and be a little more organized :) -
