Does it really need a whole review if it has close to 400 reviews all saying how AWESOME it is.
Great service, great atmosphere, great drinks, great food, DIVINE desserts
can be a bit pricey, but worth it. SO worth it. (mind you i am originally from a small town where good food doesn't go for LA prices)
Oh Aroma!!! How I've missed you! I promise to visit ASAP!
This is the cutest little place ever. The food portions are HUGE and how can you say no to a place that sells BLUE VELVET CUPCAKE?! Yeah yeah yeah- I know it's just food coloring but so what! It's delicious and the cashiers are very good looking. They made it that much more lovable. They have outdoor seating that is beautiful. You have to try this place, you won't regret it.
One and only downer- street parking. Any street parking sucks in my book.
Happy Eating Yelpers!
I LOVE THIS PLACE.
The line is always out the door, but the food and drinks are delicious and just utterly enjoyable. It seems expensive but I split a sandwich with my friend and it was more than enough for the both of us, and ended up costing around $6 each. It's my favorite place to go get coffee with friends and a great place to look out for people you recognize.
It's a great, hip location on Tujunga. It's got a real homey feel to it. If you're like my dad and are a real meat and potatoes kind of person it might not be just right for you but if you're very California and just kind of healthy you would love it. It's always a love of fun to hang out in.
Came here a few times after my hike at studio city. Breakfast is great, quiet place and good vibe. FOod comes out delicious and fast.
I liked the salmon salad and the omelets. They all come in pretty good portion and my friend and I always share each other's plate.
The sister of one of my faves--ALCOVE!
Had a rainy day brunch with a girlfriend and sat next to Brooke Burns and some guy from desperate housewives. I still get a kick out of seeing semi-celebrities =)
anyway, oatmeal--yummy, cute guy who took my order-- Yummy!
Wonderful & intimate cafe to share with friends and loved ones!
I love how Aroma is unique and has a homelike atmosphere. The location around the "Tujunga Village" is very nice, mainly catering to women with it's cute retail shops. ...and they are PET FRIENDLY!
I have been loyal to Aroma for years and have enjoyed their breakfast, lunch and dinner....everything I've had is delicious. Some of my usuals are the Turkey Pesto Panini and the Aroma Burger.
The menu is spectacular and they are very generous in their portions. Food, desserts and cafe selections are always top grade. Worth every penny in my book.
They have a lovely little bookstore inside called "Portrait of a bookstore" filled with cute & unique items. I love to pass through just in case they add something new!
Read the parking signs! Enforcement does check regularly!
Thanks & ENJOY!
Awesome breakfast food in cute liitle duplex-turned-charming coffee house. Kind of pricey but worth it.
Didn't get to try the pancakes but they looked amazing.
Such good breakfast burrito! So big and delicious and comes with a generous size of fruit on the side. Unfortunately I have tried nothing else, place is very cute with generally friendly staff. Get's pretty busy though, so expect to wait.
My bf and I came here on a sunday morning around 11. Parking was easy (and free!) and when we walking up there was a line out the door, which is ALWAYS a good sign, especially when there are many empty cafes on the block.
They have a big breakfast menu, so I don't understand why someone said they had a limited menu.....I ordered the aroma breakfast sandwich on wheat, with veggie sausage (cooked into the eggs) instead of bacon or sausage. It was yummy and I definitely would go back just for this sandwich. I also had a caramel latte and it was delish! The espresso is fresh and strong. Yum.
The atmosphere was cute. Everyone had a dog and it had an Urth Caffe feeling but less pretentious. I'll definitely be back.
edit: their coffee is from fronte- no wonder it's so good!
First things first. I LOVE The Griddle. So far it is my favorite breakfast spot in LA as per a suggestion from my friend Jeremy.
The wait and the drive to The Griddle often deters me from going. So, as an effort to find a local brekky spot in the hood I yelped and found Aroma Cafe.
Early Sunday AM me and my girlfriend rolled out of bed in hopes of beating the brunch spot to Aroma.
We got there, very cute neighborhood! Parked. Walked in. No one was really there. Score! I stood in the doorway waiting for my gf to park and come into the restaurant. I was a bit disappointed that while I stood there no one really acknowledged or greeted me.
I checked out the baked good and all of the food looked absolutely picture perfect. But we were on a mission for a breakfast spot so we bypassed the sweets and ordered our food.
GF ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon, cheese, tomato, avacado with added egg and wholeseed mustard with a side of garlic fries.
I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with bacon and eggs scrambled with cheese.
Cost: 32.91
The food actually came out fairly quickly but I must say that my pancakes were freezing cold! My breakfast food of choice is most certainly buttermilk pancakes and I would say that they were very ok. Perhaps because they were cold and a bit overcooked. The quality of the bacon and eggs was good but I must admit that I was pretty disappointed after dropping $30 bones to have such a mediocre food experience.
My GF on the other hand LOVED her sandwich so i'm not totally writing Aroma off but I must say that for first round I was let down.
I hang around here sometimes for the theater down the block. This is a great place for dessert and coffee. Their decadent desserts will set you back three meals, most of the time I can't finish them and have to package them for later in the night or the next day.
I've only nibbled on other friends' meals to try the non-dessert menu, but the sandwiches and other goodies seem to be very good, too. Nice neighborhood place to get coffee and then some...
Food is great! (Everyone has pretty much covered that here). My favorite thing to eat here is the Goat Cheese and Walnut Salad. Mmmm.
The ONE thing I absolutely despise about this place (and why I took away 1 star from my 4-star review), is that they allow people to bring their dogs to the outdoor eating area.
Gross. Animals should not be allowed anywhere near where people are eating or food is being served to the public. It is unsanitary, and they don't take into account that some people could be allergic to their dog. (They don't take that chance with the food they serve you, do they?)
My first experience there, I sat down, and this couple sat at the table next to mine and let their chihuahuas eat off their plates, then they set their dogs down and they tottered over to everyone else's tables and begged for food. I had to tell our server to tell them to put their dogs on a leash. (sigh...Los Angeles...)
I go back every once in a while, but if there is a dog, I turn around and visit Vitello's across the street.
I am a bit torn about this place. My experience here was wonderful, but I can't say the same for my bf. I'll set the scene and elaborate.
The place is great for a late night dinner or dessert after watching a play at the Two Roads Theatre. The atmosphere is beautiful and sweet with its old school feel and twinkling lights at night. Even better, there were heat lamps outside to keep you warm and toasty.
I ordered the tofu rice bowl which consisted of wild rice, tofu, broccolli, scallions, serrano chilis, and roasted red bell peppers. The portions were large and the dish itself was filled with light savory noms. I found myself picking at the few last grains of rice by the end of the night.
Now... so far so good right? Well... did I mention that my bf ordered a cup of beef soup? Did I also mention that 2 hours post-soup-consumption he was kneeling over the toilet from food poisoning? Yeah... I had to say... that was a tad unpleasant.
So, how do I fairly rate this joint? I'll split down the middle and say this place was A-ok. Why? Well, after my bf contacted the restaurant, the management sincerely apologized and notified the chef and the people who sell their beef. Also, the manager was also kind enough to compensate via gift certificate. That was both nice and professional.
Maybe next time we should just stick to tea and cake?
If you want hearty, quality, plus organic served foods (which i do), then i highly recommend this place.
It was pretty good. But the name of the restaurant is key. It is a Cafe and i do not recommend this place for a special dinner or anything like that. this place has really good sandwiches. Its has superb tea and pretty setup of pastries. (though you should know, many of these cakes are also imported such as the Triple berry cake) Overall its good place, no need for all the hype because the menu is limited.
The tofu bowl was amazing, the outdoor seating surrounding the restaurant is amazing, the coffee is amazing, and the cashiers are pretty.
I had the pleasure of visiting Aroma on a recent visit to LA. I was more than impressed. I had the most amazing brie, apple and carmelized onion sandwich and my socks were just knocked right off of my feet (never did get them back!)....My friend had what appeared to be the yummiest cobb salad in all of the land.
Food aside, Aroma is just about the cutest little place you ever did see. There were many tables indoors and out, and the most quaint garden setting. They also had the sweetest little gift shop chock full of tsotchkes
A pleasant dining experience for all of the sense. I plan on visiting again the next time I am on the west coast.
This is a very very cute place on a street I never knew had so many options for a nice lunch with friends! Anyway, the food was a bit average unfortunately. I will definitely come back and try something else next time to give a fair assessment of the place, but my Caprese sandwich, a simple sandwich that isn't hard to get right, was disappointing. Tomatoes were too chunky, mozzarella was overwhelming, and overall didn't have too much flavor which was odd to me. I tried adding the balsamic sauce from my side salad to it which kind of helped but the sauce itself was strangely thick and intense tasting. The burgers looked good though, maybe I should get one of them next time? It really is a cute place with a nice staff though so I will try again next time.
Aroma has a really nice atmosphere, but I definitely go there for the food.
The Brie & Fruit Plate is amazing - the Brie is slightly melted & warm, served with crunchy crostini, several kinds of fruit including dried figs, green apple slices, and sliced strawberries, and then everything is lightly drizzled with truffle-infused honey. I don't know if the fruits are seasonal, but so far they've been consistent through the fall & winter.
The Roast Beef Panini is really good as well. The beef has a good flavor, and the horseradish aioli has just the right combination of flavor & bite, and it pairs really well with the meat.
Another favorite is the Goat Cheese & Walnut Salad - the rounds of goat cheese are sliced and then cooked on each side which warms up the cheese a bit and gives it a nice texture as well. The salad is pretty large, and could probably feed two or just one with some nice leftovers to take home.
The croissants were the most recent discovery. They're huge, with the right amount of flakiness and just a hint of sweetness - perfect as far as all of us at the table were concerned.
I tried the Blue Velvet Cupcakes with several friends. They were great but we all agreed that we would only ever eat those once.
There's almost always a line out the door at Aroma, and sometimes seating can be hard to find if it's busy. I tend to try and go during the off-peak times (between standard mealtimes) so as to avoid the crowds.
William Shatner was there just a few days ago, but we left him alone. Still, it was cool to see him in-person since all of us who were there are dyed-in-the-wool geeks who love Star Trek.
I love Aroma and I'll keep going back as long as the food stays as good as it is now.
I adore this place. The line can be out of hand sometimes, but you get in and you wait because it's that terrific here. The ingredients are fresh and always delicious, there's a great variety of menu items for each meal time and there's always a great new special of the day listed up on the chalkboard near the register. The staff are all adorable and look like they're acting out an episode of a great new sitcom. And well, then there's the cake and baked goods. I come in and have to hold myself back from pressing my nose straight up to the glass cases. Everything looks like a piece of food art.
After one trip you'll become a regular - and there are quite a few. It's great food decorated with friendly staff, twinkle lights and the occasional celebrity sighting - GO.
This is definitely one of my favorite spots in the valley. Fresh and organic meals that a hearty, filling... and of course... Delicious. People complain that this place is a scene... And it kinda is. Lots of entertainment peeps gather around here. Writers. Actors. Etc. But how can you resist the place? It's so quaint, earthy, with a lot of outdoor seating. AND it's dog-friendly. SO dog friendly, they even have bowls set-up outside for your dogs to drink out of.
Also, keep in mind... This place is popping pretty hard, so do expect to wait in line. It goes by fairly quick since there's so much seating, but prepare to be in line either way. I don't think I've been there without having to wait in line before. BUT that's also because you line up to order, you get a number, and THEN grab a seat.
The first time I visited Aroma, I had their breakfast burrito... and it's safe to say, to this day, I have never had another breakfast burrito that will ever live up to it.
Everything I've tried at Aroma has been off the charts. From their soft and tasty focaccia bread to their cakes. I'd break down all my meals for you, but that would make for a RIDICULOUSLY long review.
So, here's the short version:
Do try:
Aroma Classic Breakfast Burrito with bacon
Eggs Benedict (It's on focaccia bread!!!!)
Prosciutto & Eggs Panini
Pistachio cake! - This cake has driven me mad since the day I first tried it. I never would have thought to order this, but I decided to just leave it up to the server to choose for me. AMAZING. Soft, moist, pistachio flavored bundt cake with chocolate frosting... And it's ALWAYS sold out!! So, get it early! OR call ahead. Apparently Fridays are the best days to grab some.
I am so over this place. The food is just so-so, for the hype it gets. And, sadly, it has become such a scene and is so far removed from what it started as: a quaint neighborhood place to get a nice meal. Now, there are lines out the door with reality star/hipster/hollywood wannabes that it is not worth the time. And, on a few occasions, the staff was far less than cordial.
Sadly, it is still the only place in the area to sit outside and has a variety in its menu to please everyone. But, if a scene is not your scene... you probably don't want to go here.
Quaint, friendly, neighborhood type joint and the food, excellent. No outlets or internet service for computers yet if you are up for conversation and a relaxing environment, this is the place.
I really enjoy going here at night. The ambience is really laid back, you really feel like you are in someone's backyard garden having dessert. The neighborhood is very nice, with a small theater on the street as well as Italian restaurant Vitello's across the way. Parking has been easy every time I have gone here.
There is usually a good sized line, but the wait is worth it. Once the people in front of you are shuffled to your left and you can see all the wonderful cakes and pies in the display case it truly is overwhelming. The red velvet cake and cupcakes are great. Even a basic dessert like a brownie was satisfying. The coffee based drinks are good, not amazing or anything. I think it is more about the food and vibe of the place.
I have been looking for good places to take friends from back home if they ever visit and this would definitely be on my list. It's especially nice for an after dinner coffee and conversation with friends. There are heated lamps outside as well for those cold nights.
They also are dog friendly so if that bothers you this may not be the place for you, although I have only seen a dog there twice, there are dog bowls for your dog to drink out of.
I absolutely love it here!! Its such a cute cozy and friendly cafe. Its always crowded but the line moves quickly and usually the people there are in a good mood and friendly!
The food is great. They have seating up front and pleanty of seating in the back garden patio. I've seen a few celebrities a couple of times too!!
Seriously breakfast and desserts are a must here. And lunch! Its a great place to sit and catch up with friends over lunch or coffee.
Its even a great place to go on a lunch date! ;0)
Came here with two friends today and their kobe burger looked delicious but I only ate some of the red velvet (which was meh...I like Sugar Plum Pastry red velvets much better) and the Aroma version of the hostess ding dong which was good (had a chocolate shell) but I got charged for a molten lava cake instead?!? (I should've checked the receipt but it's always so crazy at the cash registers! ) I think the savory dishes are better than the desserts here.
On another note...I have to say one of the bus boys here was awesome and provided excellent customer service! Thank you sir!

Feels good to be the 335th reviewer of this place. The breakfast is REAAAAAALLLLLY tasty. B-fast potatoes and sandwiches, scrambles with a kick, and a wide selection of hot drinks (hats off to the tea selection in particular). AND, with a peaceful, comfortable, not-so-secret-yet-still-sweet garden out back, Aroma is a great place to go to enjoy a gorgeous sunny California morning... in December. Ahhhhhhhh.
i can't believe i haven't reviewed Aroma yet!!
I've been coming here for years and it has never once let me down. obviously the atmosphere is cozy and charming, but the food is also wonderful. even when there's a long line, it doesn't take too long to place your order and find a seat.
some things i would recommend to anyone:
the cobb salad
aroma wrap (i get goat cheese instead of gorgonzola, just personal preference)
turkey pesto panini
brie and apple panini
beakfast quesadilla
those are my faves, but i've tried nearly everything on the lunch/dinner menu and nothing has ever let me down. I LOVE YOU AROMA!
Get the pink hibiscus iced tea! YUM!

Love love love love love! This place is adorable! The ambiance is great. Mostly outdoor seating in a garden setting. Love that you order your food then have it brought to your table. The food is delicious! I recently went for brunch and it was incredible.
The only negative I can think of is that the line to order gets rather long. Often snaking outside the door and around the building. Goes fairly quickly though. And the food is worth it!
Check it out!
3.5 stars
Very cutesy place! I didn't know they are affiliated with Alcove Bakery, so if you've been there, think of that place x5 with the size and cuteness level. But I wouldn't be able to compare the food, I've had only breakfast at Alcove and I had dinner at Aroma.
While waiting in line to order, I noticed all the baked goodies they had.http://static.px.yelp.... The first thing that caught my eye was the BLUE velvet cupcake and cake! I was mesmerized by the color but I decided to go against it. I just ordered the Aroma wrap with garlic fries and a lemonade and my friend ordered the veggie burger with garlic fries also.
The meal was pretty good, I had no idea there was blue cheese in it (I'm not a big fan), but the taste of the cheese wasn't too strong. The garlic fries were really good! They tossed in some fried basil which was a great addition. My friend enjoyed her veggie burger with no complaints.
After we finished our meal, that blue velvet cupcake was still in the back of my mind so I decided to get one. The flavor was pretty good and the frosting was ok, maybe a little sweet for me. I think it would have been better if I got it fresh, we kinda had a late dinner so it was pretty cold and not as moist.
I would like to come back and try some of their breakfast dishes, those looked really good! The staff here is super friendly too.
I am sad to hear that other yelpers have been less than impressed by Aroma, because I love this place! You really can't go wrong: Aroma has everything I might look for in a cafe: cute ambiance, amazing desserts, decent food, good coffee and great tea selection (including Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls!!!).
The only thing to keep in mind is that this place seriously sucks to study in. I've tried on two separate times - the first time I sat in the bookstore with a friend and scores upon scores of Jappy looking girls burst through the doors every other minute. On another occasion, we had the misfortune of sitting next to a film student who, in effect, intellectually masturbated next to us.
But if your intent is to just relax with a great cup of coffee or tea and some lovely desserts, Aroma is a superb place to go.
300th Aroma review! Almost a good as a first to review, no?! Ok, no.
Still.... it needs to be said that this place is off the chain adorable!! Loved the eccentric and eclectic vibe with the mishmash of hats they wear collectively as a business; café, bakery, tea and coffee bar, bookstore, home items hawker... a jack of all trades and they sell red velvet moonpies**?? Now how can that be anything but heavenly.
Aroma rocks for either a lackadaisical brunch or quick on the go lunch alike. Saddle up to the bustling counter, place your order and determine whether you want to sit outdoors street side or patio (garden patio, please) or just hit the road, Choad. Loved the homey al fresco environs and small touches of personal service from the Aroma folks like delivery of my dish to table and a few check-ins from time to time to ensure things were copacetic.
Items like the Lobster Club chock full of crispy, nummy bacon and the Cobb Salad are sure fire and tremendously tasty winners but honestly everything is pretty spot on. Don't forget to toss in an order of garlic fries too for good measure... they're fattening as hell and mightily breath-crushing but so very worth their seducing temptation. Housemade brown sugar and fleur de sel cookies are thankfully sold in cute packets of 3 - thank GOD for portion control - I could eat a million, they're magnificent and the perfect sweet note to end a nice meal on.
** Yes. For Reals. Red Velvet Moonpie. Two HUMONGO smushy red velvet cookies surrounding cream cheese frosting and brushed with brown sugar... DO IT.
My boyfriend took me to this place over the weekend for breakfast. He got the Hulk breakfast and I got the Aroma eggs over spinach puffs. Both of our meals were great. The patio seating is very relaxing and enjoyable and eclectic. Such a great place to come and just chill out eating breakfast or lunch and visit with good company. I look forward to coming here more often when I am up in the area
PS- the desserts inside looked amazing and plan on eating them at some point!
Much better and tastier than Coral Tree Cafe. No question there.
Love the salads.
GREAT Kobe Bacon Burger- a MUST try!
The ambiance is fantastic. Very romantic at night time, and very relaxed and comfortable during the day.
The service is also wonderful. Very friendly and helpful.
I have been going here since before the throngs. I still love it so very much
and the people who work there.
It's a quirky bookstore, a maze, a cake shop and a bistro, a café and a garden! The staff are super duper, the menu is varied, there is often a queue yet rarely a real long wait (how is this possible I hear you cry?!). Tables are sometimes rickety yet the food has never - for me - been anything less than delish.
They have free water, parking on the street (metered) or in a lot someplace close (go find it). If it had free wi-fi (usually an essential feature for me), I'd never leave - difficult too as I'm living in Venice and nowhere near Tujunga on most days. But yes, I would travel there - calling ahead means I skip the dine-in queue, grab my fresh blueberry pie and skip down the street oh, so happy.
Ahem.
The food is delicious and they offer a lot of healthy options.
They're open late, so you can swing in for a GIANT slice of cake after dinner.
The outside eating area is gorgeous.
The only downside is the ordering method. I don't think the whole process was very well thought out because there's hardly any space in front of the counter, so people just crowd in and spill out onto the street. It can be a bit stressful. But once you've ordered and are seated, it's lovely! I would recommend definitely mid week (less crowded) and for weekend breakfast.
p.s. the desserts really are MASSIVE. One slice of cake is fit for two....unless you're with me. I don't share food.
Very special place. Great food, casual, cozy outdoor atmoshphere. I have been here many times for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Would not go to on the weekend because it is a major scene with long lines. This is my favorite breakfast place - the rosemary potatoes are the most delicious I have every had & the lattes are perfect.
Hello Aroma!!
It's such an experience going here! Sitting outside on their cute shabby chic tables, drinking a latte out of a "central perk" style mug!
The food is solidly 4 stars, but I'm adding an extra star for the service and ambiance!
Although, it is clogged up a lot with "wannabe actors" hanging out...pretending they just came back from a BIG audition ! :)
Blue velvet cake!
end of story.
