5 reviews for Aroma Cafe
While I found my first experience to merit three stars I do feel that Cafe Aroma can own up to a higher ranking in the not too distant future. It's a fairly new cafe located inside the International House (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) which is one of my favorite West Philly spots. So it definitely has a prime location. I just didn't find it to be that great for coffee and a muffin.
the guy working the counter was extremely friendly and accommodating. But I found the self serve coffee that I picked up to just be average. And the chocolate chip muffin I picked out was good, but tasted exactly like the one's that Wawa offers. So in essence I could have got the exact same thing that I picked out at Wawa for a bit less.
But upon checking out the menu afterwards I found out that I chose wrong (D'oh!). They have a full fledged cappuccino bar that can spruce up you caffeinated treatsTheir menu has offerings like a jerk chicken wrap, double cheese quesadillas, homemade oatmeal, and plenty of veggie sandwiches and salads. They even hook up a variety of smoothies and milkshakes, and a combo deal where you can score a soup and a sandwich for $7-8. Second chance here I come!
International House's Aroma Cafe is not a restaurant or much of a cafe. It might have an Aroma, but I have such a lousy sense of smell I can't comment. It's kinda like a food cart inside; there is coffee so I guess it is a cafe.
IHAC has a sandwich press, which is great if you like paninis, tosted sandwiches or wraps hot. I'm usually happy just eating cold sandwiches, but given the choice I'll opt for my sandwich to be George Formaned. The menu board is full of good looking options and I've tried a few of the sandwiches and wraps to go. The people that work there are pretty friendly which is one of the reasons I've gone back a few times.
Unfortunately I'm always disappointed in my choice by the time I start eating. I blame the potato chips. I think what happens is when they toss the potatochips into the Styrofoam clamshell with the hot sandwich the chips end up soggy AND the sandwich ends up absorbing the fat and salt from the chips, leaving it tasting like soggy potato chips every time.
The space itself is as comfortable as the back seat of a Volkswagen with an overheated engine; it's definitely an order and leave kind of set up. The bathroom is somewhere hidden in the International House. The muffin/bagel selection always looks beat by the time lunch rolls around and is fly fodder that should be chucked after 10AM. Now that summer is here I probably won't be eating any hot sandwiches for a while but may give Aroma another chance in the fall.
The owner is soooo nice! My group had an event that needed free coffee sponsorship, and he totally helped us. He even asked us to come back and refill if we needed more...
YUM! The food here was so delicious and the portions are huge! I didn't eat in the restaurant, which is bizarrely decorated and feels a little cold, but for take-out, I will definitely be back! Yummy grilled veggies, fluffy rice and well seasoned meats.
Great place for a quick lunch! I have been going here for a few weeks now and the quality has steadily gotten better. The service can be at times slow, but the food is wonderful. No condensed soups here - all of them are made daily by the owner! So that's a plus! And they make an awesome Peanut Butter Chocolate Smoothie!! It's amazing and filling! And if the owner is there you can convince him to make a Nutella Smoothie - it's divine!
