Arnie's is a creative outlet for the owner and apparently a business in metamorphisis. That is not a bad thing but simply reminds us that in America, we have the freedom to do and change our business as we please and the customer dictates.

It's always good when an establishment supports music and Arnie's offers a friendly fun way to enjoy a nice plate of pasta with some great musicians.

He is now adding couches along the side which should make even more room for those fun music nights.

Food was decent, coffee, good, carrot cake pretty good. The red velvet cake was a bit dry but the icing tasted yummy.

All in all a good experience for folks like us who are too old for clubbing.

I hope the community remembers to stop by and support this creative endeavor.
    Thanks for the great night!

Since I wrote this review Arnie's has closed.  I hope this review is sufficient for the Yelpers out there who complained about my last review and had it deleted.

I went to lunch at Arnie's with my mom today.

The first thing I noticed was that it looked really empty. Empty shelves, empty seats, empty refrigerators, empty tables. (Oh, except for the Valentine's Day stuffed animals...tacky. It's not a gift store, it's a restaurant, well, supposed to be)

We sat down and were greeted by a man in a chef jacket, I assumed this was the new Italian chef, Domink. It was. He gave us menus.

No one asked us for a drink order.

A woman next to me handed me a book of advertisements, filled with Arnie's other businesses. Smog check, flower shop, internet site, etc. My first thought was how could he concentrate on a restaurant while doing so many other things...spread a little thin maybe?

After a few minutes I ordered the Calamari to start.

Time passed, my mom said she was thirsty, so I got up and asked the young man behind the counter if we could order drinks. He said he would be right over.

Time passed. He came over and we ordered iced tea. They arrived with minimal ice in a plastic to-go cup.

I then had to get up again to place our order. It seems that they were very busy cleaning in the back. They made no eye contact whatsoever.

I asked what was in the Greek salad, "The Chef" said, lettuce, feta, tomato, black olives. I said, "Black Kalamata olives?" He said, "Yes, Kalamata." You see, I am part Greek and I believe a Greek salad is supposed to have Greek olives...not canned black olives. He assured me they were kalamata. That was the last time he even made any kind of contact with us.

We got the calamari. It was OK. Very "bready" and the dipping sauce was too cold...made the calamari cold. Looked nice.

We finished the calamari and then came the meals. My mom ordered the Mahi Mahi sandwich and loved it. The fries were good although I had to get up again and ask for ketchup.

The first thing I noticed was the black olives. No kalamata. He lied. He could have at least tried to save himself by saying they ran out or something. The lettuce was fresh, the cucumbers were see-thru (old) and the feta was dull. I told the waiter that I wasn't happy, the chef was too busy mopping the floor to even look up.

I asked for a refill on the ice tea, the waiter took my glass and never returned.

Needless to say, I will never go back there. The worst service ever. With the prices they charge they need to be on top of things more.

Arnie's Cafe, finally, a return to the neighborhood coffee shop!

As I grew up, I often complained about Sunland's (my hometown) "small town" feel, but today, I definitely am in favor of this tight woven community when i bypassed our local starbucks for.... Arnie's Cafe.

This place definitely breathes life into a dying breed of coffee shops and cafes,, where the mass produced, coffee behemoths rule. My initial impression of the place was that it was a quaint, quiet, mostly empty place, plenty of room, ample seating, helpful and friendly staff, and unusually quiet, perfect for my afternoon studies, which were interrupted only by the distractions that free internet can provide (personal laptops required). after several hours, a large non-fat latte (just strong enough and rich flavor), and an Arnie's Dream cake later, it was clear that something more than just coffee was a'brewin'!

More people trailed in, delicious smelling itallian food was being plated and carried off to patrons, and various singer/songwriter/performers began setting up. My quiet table had become front row seats to an after study local performance show!

The show was the epitome of small town local-artist-showcase coffee house showcase, something that i have been looking for for quite some time.

So, next time you're in the foothills (Sunland/Tujunga/Cresenta Valley) and you're in the mood for delicious itallian food, rich coffee, free internet, and plain 'ol chicken soup for the soul that live music provides, drop on by, you won't be disappointed!

live performances most nights, check out their website!

    Awesome coffee shop!

I started coming here to see the comedy show that my friend hosts every other Wednesday!  Very nice proprietor, friendly staff and a beautiful atmosphere.  It kinda makes me jealous that there is not a place where I live this nice!  He'd make a fortune in my 'hood!

Recently, he started offering Italian food and baked goodies.  I had a salad the other night and it was great!  It was the house salad.  Very nice twist by adding sugar/spice coated walnuts to the salad.  I'll upload photos once I get them off of my phone.

Check it out if you're in the hood and message me for the next comedy show!

i needed coffee and thought this place looked pretty reliable.  i was right!  i ordered a mocha and the guy behind the counter really took his time making it, & it totally paid off, because it was delicious.  not super sweet or hot-chocolate-like like most places make them.  my husband's a total coffee snob & he was more than impressed.  i really wanted to leave a tip for all the effort, but i only had $1.59 in my wallet!  but i'd definitely go back.
