Yup, another 5-star review for Roger and Arne's.

The price is decent. The service is great. The mechanics are honest. And they're fast.

Quite frankly, I don't know why anyone living on this side of town would take their car anywhere else.

As a female I expect to walk into an auto shop and get fed a list of ailments my car is suffering from, totalling in the hundreds to thousands, it just has happened so many times before.  But not Arnes.

My car wouldn't start a week or so ago, and Arnes came to my house, got it started, and took it to their shop.  After a full exam they said nothing was wrong with my car, the battery was just dead.  I had tried jumping it with one of those store bought battery jumpers, and it didn't start so I didn't think it was the battery.

Anyway, they promised me my car was fine, and it has been since! And BEST of all they didn't charge me a dime. Love you guys!

Arne's was recommended to me awhile back after being overcharged again and again elsewhere.  I haven't looked back since and will now go to Roger every time for everything my car may need and I have a terrible, crappy car.  I highly recommend to everyone I know to check him out.  Honest, reliable, good service.

This has been a great month for me.  I sprained my back, broke my phone and then my car died.  My back still hurts, my phone is taped together, but thanks to Arne's, my little Honda Civic is running smooth as ever.

I missed my bus the other morning (like I said a *great* month), so I was in a hurry to drive to work.  Much to my dismay, my engine wouldn't turn over when I tried to start my car.  The lights were working, so I knew my battery wasn't completely dead, but that's all I knew.  Cars + Emily = Brain Spasm.  At 4:50 on a Friday, I finally gave Arne's a call.  Their shop closed at 6, but they assured me they'd give it a look that evening.  They kept their word!

First thing Monday morning, I was informed of my car's ailments.  I needed a new battery, a new alternator and some wire or something needed replaced.  Brain spasm!  I figured I'd be without my car for a few days, but I was told by the kind guy from Arne's that I should be able to hit the road by that afternoon.  Sure enough, just a few hours later I was driving home.

Fair pricing, quick turn around and they stay open later than the rest of the auto repair places in Ballard.  Consider them recommended.

We had some problems with our car starting reliably, a 98 Jetta.  We took it to Arnes based on some personal references and price.  What a mistake.  They misdiagnosed the problem, replaced an ignition switch and charged us handsomely.  The problem persisted.  We took it to Dr. Don's who typcially charges more money, they actually fixed the car, a wiring harness issue.  I contacted Arnes and told the guy about this and asked to have our labor charges refunded.  He refused.  I wouldn't recommend this place to an enemy let alone a friend.  Guarantee your work, be honest, if you make a mistake, own it.  Don't go here.  Go somewhere else.

I have been having a lot of car trouble lately--so much that I recently became the mayor of Arne's on foursquare. Not something I was aspiring to, I can assure you.

But it could be worse--I could be working with a different auto shop. Instead, I was lucky enough to break down in front of Arne's a few months back while picking up a NW Forest Pass from Second Ascent. I was literally about to head off into the forest, far away from cell phone reception, and if I hadn't started my car that last time before leaving town... you get the picture.

So I walked up to Arne's, willing to pay whatever it took and completely prepared to call off my camping trip. They didn't take advantage of my panic or ignorance of things mechanical. Instead, they fixed my alternator and had me back on the road in time to set up camp just after dusk. And they charged me a very reasonable fee (I looked around online later that week and found that the price I paid was very reasonable for the work I had done).

Since then, I've dealt with them several more times. They're always honest, professional and courteous. Rodger, you are the best. Also, the young hispanic guy that works there melts my heart with his adorableness (read: he's hot).

Next to my wife and my dog.....and Dana Delany.....I love my Jeep.  One of the biggest problems I've had is finding a good, reliable, reasonably priced mechanic who won't dick you around with your time and money.
When the last mechanic I trusted her (My Jeep) with closed shop I was left with the dealership (see my review: http://www.yelp.com/bi...)
who was not only over priced but upsell and padded the hourly mechanic times...as most dealerships do.  So I used them mostly for major fixes that I couldn't do myself, but when they give me the list of other stuff they recommend I need done (pretty much fishing for me to just have them do it) I take that list and do it myself in half the time and price......
Anyhoo I don't have a lot of time to do alot of DIY fixes on my Jeep normally  so I decided to Yelp Mechanics and Auto services and found Arnes in Ballard.  First off the impressive 5 star rating caught my eye followed by the wonderful reviews by folks like yourself, so I decided to give Arnes a try.
Starting out with a phone call to get an over the phone quote on work I needed done which I compared to a couple of other places just to compare and contrast......Arnes is competative if not slightly cheaper.  Making an appointments was relatively easy and the time estimates for completion of work was spot on!

So far I've taken my baby to them twice, and though the second time my initial diagnosis of a leaky hose ended up actually being a bad H2O pump, I got an immediate call to let me know the problem, no pressure, but they got the go from me.  It's been almost a month and she's still running good!
They get a lot of business for a small shop, but somehow they always seem to be able to fit me in and get me out on time.

Hint, at least with me, I like to make early appointments which seems to work with being able to get my Jeep in and out, and because they do tend to get busy it might ensure timely service.

If you don't know squat about cars, these guys won't condescend or patronize. They know their stuff and fix your vehicle, period. If you do know about cars, they'll go into as much detail as you want. A busy mechanic is a good mechanic and they're ALWAYS busy. I send my company's fleet of vehicles here as well as my personal car and I've never been disappointed or lost my job over it. Great guys.

This is the only place I will take our cars.   Rodger and his staff are completely honest and dependable - they will not do unnecessary repairs and they won't try to take advantage of you.  Great place.

Rodger is a great guy! And this place is amazing!!! So nice, quick, friendly, professional, and they don't try to screw you out of every dime. He even told me I needed new tires, when I asked how much he sold them for, he referred me elsewhere being honest and telling me I could get them cheaper other places, since he isnt a tire shop. I will keep going here, and only here for future vehicle needs.

I had a car issue a couple of weeks ago and had a coupon I picked up at a local store from some company named Mojo Media.  I originally picked up the coupon as it had a deal for a free appetizer to Neighborhood Grills and before I had a chance to use it my car had issues.  I saw Arne's message on this coupon and didn't have a local mechanic so checked it out.   Great people and great service.  Thanks for getting me back on the road.  Thanks to grabbing some coupon at a local store I found a gem of a mechanic.
