Nice shop with amazing prices for the type of bags they have. Ask for Henry the Chinese guy with a big heart!

Army & Navy Bags doesn't have a fitting room, but they do have a selection of fatigues and cargo pants, so considering that I've been trying on clothes on the street for years--you see if a pair of pants or a skirt will fit your waist by taking the waistband and seeing if it will fit from your navel to the middle of your back; it's an old street trick--I wasn't fazed by this. They didn't have my size in camouflage cargo shorts, so I got olive drab. In ripstop. They'll last me several summers, I know.
They also have an assortment of wallets, badges, caps, and--of course--bags. The woman who was there said I could bring the shorts back if they didn't fit, to exchange on Wednesday when the next shipment came in, but I went over to Two Boots and tried them on. They were too big, I brought them back, and exchanged them. I was happy to see the store busy; they deserve the business. -

Ever since Iceberg Army and Navy closed I've been looking for a utility vest with lots of pockets to carry all my gear--I got a good one (OUTBACK) there 6 years ago and for the past year have been looking for a replacement vest. My old vest is in tatters, but I still wear it. Walking east on Houston, just past Allen Street is a little cubby-hole store called Army And Navy Bags and to my delight carried the vest I'd been looking for. This is no trendy, upscale pretend surplus store with prices through the roof but the real grungy thing. My new vest cost exactly what I paid for the old one a half dozen years ago. Henry, the owner was warm and friendly and needs plenty of support as the old neighborhood is gentrifying at an alarming rate and soon his kind of store will be gone forever.

I didn't end up getting anything, but my friends were a hug fan of this place. Great deals (if you bargain), quality products (if you inspect), and a great guy runs the store.

If you need a nice, simple, durable, inexpensive, nonbranded bag, this is the place to go. No question. The store is small but they have a wide selection of bags.
I needed a medium duffel and found a great black one that fit the gear I needed to carry perfectly for $20. I was not sure if the bag I selected was big enough and the lady said there was no problem if I needed to exchange it for a bigger size.
They also have a selection of jackets and boots along with lots of odds and ends. Worth checking out if you need a solid bag. -

Since I was in LES for my self-guided-nostalgia tour of the old hood (because of a need for knish) I had to stop by Army & Navy Bags store.
Henry, the owner and only worker it this little shop, has been on this spot for almost 40 years!
The shop has a great selection of military-style clothes, bags, belts and stuff. There is a lot in this little space. He even has army boots!
The bags are not your brand-name chic stuff; they are the great strong canvas type bags I remember from years ago.
The visit was nostalgic for me and I enjoy picking up a bag that people envy because it is not branded.
Henry's prices are great and I will definite browse this store again before it gets consumed by a trendy bar. -

Originally went next door to Russ & Daughters for breakfast and stopped in this shop that is right next door. Henry (owner) knew exactly what sizes and styles we would be interested in. He was so patient, inviting, and kind! Awesome inventory and great service, what more can you ask for! If you're in the area make sure you stop by. We are just vacationing from San Diego and have already been here twice. You won't be disappointed! Thanks Henry!

This is the greatest store if you find yourself in need of an over the shoulder type bag, satchel, camping sack, computer bag, etc. They've got 'em all. They've got the most beautiful canvas-green army-crafted bags in all of New York City. Alongside these, the stores got a fantastic belt selection - all sizes under $10. Oh, did I mention the bags are all super cheap? I got a sweet one, multi-pockets, uber-sturdy for $12. The majority are under $20....even those huge, fit your dog-bags.
The owners are a sweet, Eastern European couple who loved to help me make this all important decision. I mean, they knew. They knew this bag was coming with me and never leaving my side. I wasn't just buying a satchel. I was buying a companion who'll carry my groceries, my wine, my bike-lock, cd's, flyers, t-shirts and hoodies.
I HIGHLY recommend this store for all your over the shoulder bags, and traveling, needs. -

The guy running the place is really nice and very patient (unlike most stores I visited, where they don't even care)
the first time I visited, the guy urged me to look around (even when i told him i was penniless) and was eager to strike a conversation 'bout how I was wandering all over Manhattan when it was too early for school dismissal and whether I was still in school or not, etc. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I was cutting school that day so I just told him I was on a field trip.
When I did eventually have money I returned to buy that Red Army paratrooper bag I had my eye on from the previous trip. I bought the bag and I now carry it with me everywhere ever since. And I lived happily ever-after, despite being often labeled as a communist (or a Macy's fanatic) 'coz of the red star.
The End. -

This place is eerily small. Stuffed in a room about 10'x15', bags are stacked ceiling high along the walls, and laid out across the floor. There are also items such as belts, wallets, clothing and more. But don't expect to find any rarer items that the larger army surplus stores stock. When i visited, I did not get to meet the much talked-about Henry, but instead an older lady was operating the store. I checked the prices of several bags and noted they were slightly more expensive when compared to Uncle Sam's Army Navy Outfitters on W. 8th St. along with their occasional 50% off in-store coupon. I noticed all my other fellow Yelpers have given this place 5 stars, but with the small selection of gear, small space, and slightly higher prices, I wouldn't consider this my first-stop for army surplus gear.

Stopped here to pick up a bag for some cheap traveling in Ireland. I think I spent $12 on a solid canvas duffel that baaarely made it through as a carry-on. I abused it pretty thoroughly and it just took it. The person running the store was very friendly and talkative. Totally recommend this place if you just want a cheap, quality bag. I think they also sell army fatigues and similar things.
