If you are into the juxtaposition of historic and modern, this is an awesome place to stay.

I stayed at the Armstrong while attending a conference in the area over one weekend. I liked the historic feel of the building. My room was simple and clean. King bed, small bathroom (with a clawfoot tub! cool), desk, closet. Simple and effective.
My room had a beautiful window that looked out over S College Ave that I wanted to open very badly (the room got pretty stuffy mid-day) - alas, they're bolted closed. My room had a HUGE free-standing AC unit that I imagine must be needed in the summer (again, stuffy).
I ended up turning on the AC in the middle of the night Saturday, more to drown out the noise coming from the adjacent rooms and the street at 2 am than anything else. (Not much to the walls, I guess.) Oh, and there's a train that goes by around 6 am on Sunday mornings that likes to blare its whistle just as a heads up it's coming. Good thing I am from the East Coast, so the 6/8am "wake up" wasn't terrible.
There's a cool bar in the basement and plenty to eat / drink in the area, so I didn't miss the lack of room service.
Oh, and they have a cat that lurks around the hotel (just the first floor, not in the rooms.) Good thing I wasn't traveling w/ my SO -- he is desperately allergic. They should consider giving people a heads up on the cat when they book. -

Cute little hotel in the center of it all. Stayed her last week for a night, after touring the brewery's for my husbands birthday. The staff was awesome specially Carol at the front desk she was beyond helpful and friendly, the type of employee anybody in the hospitality industry should strive to be. Stayed in Room 308 and loved it. The bed was super soft and its was furnished nicely, the small fridge kept all of our beer cold to so that was a plus. We ate breakfast at Luciel's the next morning and they gave us free beings for our stay at the hotel so that was cool ( awesome breakfast if you are out of town looking for some good hangover food!) The only negative was that the room was a tad loud, and although that didn't bother my husband and me at all , it might be a problem for light sleepers.

Nice little hotel located downtown FC. Not as impressed as others that think it is the best hotel they have ever stayed at. It was formally a flop house for heaven sake. I found it noisy and discombobulated in the room design. Staff was friendly and the place was clean.
I will say I like the location and that the downtown was cool. -

I LOVE THIS HOTEL!
It's vintage yet modern. It's right downtown. They let you ride their cruiser bikes around. there is an awesome bar downstairs. every time I stay, I want to ask if it would be alright to moved in.
the vintage rooms are my favorite.
and there is a cat in the front lobby area. Oreo. he is super chill and pretentious. just like a good cat should be. two thumbs up! -

We stayed two nights in the modern honeymoon suite. The room was nice, the soaking tub was lovely (as long as you didn't notice that they hadn't swept behind the tub and there were flower petals on the floor and they wern't from us...ick) Mr. Bubbles was our bath option, cute, but for a hotel like this I would have expected something a bit nicer. There are two wonderful organic/natural bath shops in Old Town. How about something from them? This is a honeymoon suite, not a family room, something a bit more romantic would be nice.
Location is great, the staff is so-so, and the room was adequate, but glad we stayed only two nights. -

We stayed here one night on 9/11/11. The hotel is centrally located to College Ave which is where the action is in terms of restaurants and bars. The hotel is perfectly fine for what it is. The rooms are clean and functional though rather basic. No complaints except for a low flow on the shower. And the train. The hotel is located about 2 blocks from train tracks. If you not an early riser, you will be. The train is an attention seeker and likes to let everyone know it has arrived, if you know what I mean. Still, it was a thoroughly enjoyable and civilized stay. There is no smoking in the rooms although some guests interpret this to mean that pot is not included. Cool hotel cat, obviously well-fed. And they offer free parking down the street. Would return.

A word to the ladies, bring your own hair dryer. The ones they provide are useless.
We escaped up to FoCo for a quick Colorado getaway, and we are so glad we picked the Armstrong. I wouldn't hesitate to return for another local vacation.Listed in: I can't eat it

Whenever we need a getaway, Fort Collins it is. And the Armstrong is where we stay. Actually, The Armstrong is WHY we get away to FoCo. Our first trip brought us to a bar, where we asked if there was any place to stay in downtown. This was our only option. We stumbled down the block, asked about their rates, and were pleasantly surprised. If I remember right, it's about $100 per night.
And that $100 goes a long way. Let me start off with the beds. They're amazing. Feather comforters, PLENTY of feather pillows, and beyond-egyptian cotton. Seriously, they're the softest sheets I've ever slept on. They provide you with a small fridge, and sell beer via room service. Excellent. The coffee machine is a pleasant addition. They offer wireless throughout the hotel. Which, for me, means that I can lounge in the extra-comfy bed while Yelping to find a place to eat dinner. And my boyfriend can watch TV on their big screens (no, not flat screens) while also lounging in the extra comfortable bed.
And their bathrooms aren't too shabby, either. They provide the typical amenities, but then also throw in a makeup remover cloth. It has come in handy in the past. Their soaps and stuff are quality, as well. I like to judge hotels based on their bathroom items.
Each room we've stayed in has been designed differently, painted pretty colors, and had a nice view. I prefer room #303, which is smaller yet gives a great view and is painted warm colors. The rooms on the back side of the hotel have their quirks too. And the one morning I was awoken at 7AM by the front desk asking me to move my car (I had parked where I wasn't supposed to, and the garbage man was there...oops) they gave me a 10% refund on my stay.
AND let's not forget their house cat. Yep, they have a gray furry cat that runs around the place. Talk about making it feel like home. -

I love this place! You can't beat the location. I used to live in old town in college and this really brings it all back.
These rooms beat out any other hotels in town and the price is great too. I work at a luxury hotel and while this isn't luxury it has a lot of charm. I like that you can pick which room you book on-line so you know what to expect. -

My wife and I stayed at the Armstrong during Christmas 2010, while we were visting family in Fort Collins, CO.
Things we loved:
Nice sized room
Very clean
Many shops (the coffe shop next door, Muggs, was a favorite) and restaurants within walking distance
Staff was super friendly
The house cat, Oero. A really cool cat (sorry, couldn't help myself)
If you want to stay in the room and watch TV, which would be silly considering how much there is to do in the area, the channel selection was quite good.
Reasons I didn't give five stars:
Elevator was kind of frightning (not sure if was designed to be like an old style slow-responding thing but I found it a little frightning to use)
Pillows were way too soft for me, we ended up buying a couple of stiffer ones at Wal-Mart.
Toilet was for an elf-sized person
All soaps and shampoo's provided had a distinct mint smell, which wasn't bad but it was overbearing at times.
This is was very nice place and we would stay here again. -

Best hotel I've ever stayed in.... period! The rooms and building are a wonderful throwback to the 1920's The lounge has EXCELLENT food. I can not stress this enough!!!! If you stay there and do not go to the bar and lounge downstairs, YOU ARE MISSING OUT!!! OMG and the happy hour sidecars are delicious, and dangerous;) Thank you so much Carol and Ray. You guys made our stay very memorable!!!

The Armstrong has a great location if you are going to be in Fort Collins. Skip the big box places for this place's great location and charm.
There is included parking in the back. The decor is a bit homey. The walls are a tad thin, but it never really bothered me. They have a cool cat that hangs out downstairs. You can't beat it. -

We stayed here briefly for a wedding a couple days ago.
The room was adorable with an incredibly soft bed. The shower was roomy and got nice and hot. There is the cutest hotel cat named Oreo. Another plus is the veggie/vegan friendly coffee shop right next door. The location could not be beat. The hotel was quiet and classic, with modern touches.
The only negatives are the tiny parking lot (there is an overflow lot a block away) and a joke of an air condtioner. The parking lot holds about five cars and the a/c never got our room under 75 degrees.
All in all it was a solid deal. We've paid a lot more for much worse places. -

The Armstrong is in the heart of old town Fort Collins. There is a coffee shop in the same building along with a wonderful deli/eatery called Choice City Butchers which I also recommend. This is my second time staying here with my wife. We both love the comfortable beds and the stylish renovations. The well done choices of colors, tiles, and fixtures are a combination of new and old and make for a fun visual experience. As others have mentioned, the noise can be a problem here - the streets are directly under the exterior room windows, there is a train that regularly cuts through the town, you can hear people walking in the hallways and the old heating system is steam heat which pings and pops throughout the night. Having said that, I am good sleeper and it didn't bother me much. We've stayed here twice and would stay again. Say hi to Oreo, the friendly cat that lives in the lobby.

I absolutely LOVED this little boutique hotel! When I ended up in town on business my corporate discount options were next to the expressway, which was just plain icky and boring. Knowing I wanted to get out that evening, and not to the Applebee's across the street I footed the extra cash and checked in here.
What an adorable, characteristic hotel! I loved the old-feel but still had modern amenities (except a full length mirror -- only thing lacking in the room!). The bed was extremely comfortable, rooms tastefully decorated without sacrificing the feel of the original era of the building.
Extra awesome idea, the coffee isn't in those nasty little pods and instead they provide fresh-ground coffee in jars which was very tasty. All in all a great experience, nice staff and very reasonable prices. Can definitely recommend to anyone visiting Ft. Collins for the first time and wants to be close to the action, you won't regret it! -

I have stayed at the Armstrong several times and always on my own as a business traveler. The location is awesome, right on College and in the middle of all the action. The rooms are all different and you're given an opportunity to choose on-line. I personally love room 312. Great size, great location in the hotel and great view of the street below. I love that it's "non-chain" and you can walk to several different places to eat. The hotel rates are very reasonable and again, you cannot beat the location. Whether traveling for business or you want to hang out and enjoy all Ft. Collins has to offer, this is a fabulous choice!

This hotel is absolutely adorable! This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and it is growing on me every time! This place has so much going for it! The rooms are decorated in their own fashion with their super comfy beds and the wonderful soaps they provide! They are also right next to Downtown Fort Collins and Mugz is right next door. What more could you ask for? Love the cat that sits on the front desk. I will steal it!

Awesome hotel. Loved getting to pick out which room I wanted online while I was planning a trip to Fort Collins. I'm always looking for a good deal, so when we got this cool of a room for only about $100 a night, I was verrrry pleased. Great bedding, cool decor, location couldn't be better.

Not too bad a hotel for crashing after djing all night and staying up to catch the sunrise over Horsetooth Reservoir. Nice towels and a decent shower. The in-room a/c units were ok but a bit noisy. Like I cared considering I'd just spent the previous 4 hours mixing records at high volume and all I wanted was sweet sweet coldness. The Armstrong is conveniently located right in the middle of Old Town too. Making all your towny excursions just a few steps away. Great little coffee shop right next door.

They have pixie sticks in a bucket, and a fat cat (Oreo) napping on the counter - what more can you ask for? OK the amazingly comfortable bed, might have something to do with the fact that we loved this place! Westin doesn't own the heavenly bed market - I found it very hard to pry myself out of bed it was sooo comfortable! Each room has it's own eclectic style, a mix of modern urban hipster thriving in an 1800s environment - it works well here without being kitschy. Some rooms have modern steel frame beds, others ultra modern wood beds designed and built by local woodworker Tyler Morris. My main complaint would be that the bathroom needed ventilation - a fan would be good, particularly when it's right next to the bed. Also, upgrading to HDTV plasmas would go a long way = but that's more a personal preference from this spoiled Generation X'er. Also, bathrobes and hair dryers should already be in the room. Everything is a stone's throw from the hotel, you could survive without ever leaving the block! Also, jazz lounge downstairs was top notch. Lastly, staff was very friendly (thank you Cynthia) and we will definitely be back the next time we need a getaway weekend.

I love this hotel. I've had a great expeirence every time I've stayed here. Recently my mom and I stayed for a night and the room we requested ahead of time had been given to another guest. We were disappointed. Then the manager offered us an upgrade, to a honeymoon suite!! It was great that she went out of her way to make up happy. I'll definitely be staying here every time I'm in Fort Collins.

San Diego, CA
I love the rooms at this place and have been to it quite a few times but my most recent trip (01.26.2009) was such a disappointment. The first morning there, I was woken up by heavy construction - and I don't mean just hammering - I could hear the air gun actually putting nails into the wall directly below me. Awful considering this was one of my two nights to sleep in. I went to the front desk and they knew about the construction but didn't seem to be at all concerned that it was waking people up at 9am. So, I moved rooms and was assured that it would not happen again. Fast forward to my second night's stay - I was again woken up at 9am, this time by housekeeping. Turns out they 'forgot' to mark my room as occupied and came into my room while I was sleeping. After complaining about this again to the front desk, they took a measly $10 off my total, which was already higher than everyone else in town, considering their star rating. I would absolutely NOT recommend this place, unless you ask for a construction- and housekeeping-free room!
