We strolled into Armstrong after reading all the great reviews online and were completely satisfied with the (very special) attention given to us. Liam explained everything to us about the different types of carpet, what to expect, and how to select the right carpet for us. He was never pushy and when other customers came into the store, we were never left unattended. I don't know how he did it, but he was able to assist everyone with the highest standards.
Day of the job, my husband was quite impressed with the care and promptness of the work. We had to touch up some paint that chipped from hammering down the nail strips (not sure exactly what they're called), but overall, the work was great. Liam even helped us set up a time with the door man to get all the doors shaved. How cool is that?! All in all, Armstrong was great!! -

We had a carpet runner installed and would highly recommend Armstrong. At each step of the way, from choosing the carpet to measuring and deciding on an installation plan to the actual installation Steve and his team were extremely helpful and professional. Our carpet runner looks amazing and the quality of the surging and installation was top notch. Steve was also very considerate about working with my schedule and called right away after installation to make sure we were happy. I would highly recommend them!

Can't say enough good things about Armstrong. We had been to so many carpet stores and I was tired of looking for the right carpet for our bedroom. I put all my faith in my husband to pick it and get it installed.
Matt went to Armstrong and found something. Within the week, the carpet was installed and we love it! We dealt with both Kevin and Steve and they were both great, they helped us keep to our budget and gave great advice. In fact on the day of installation, I was surprised that Kevin turned up to see if we were happy with the end result.

We'd put off carpeting the stairs in our house after we'd visited a couple of flooring stores and were given very high quotes by sales people who didn't seem interested in our 'little' project.
A couple of weeks ago we passed by Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum and went in. We are so glad we did. Our newly carpeted stairs look great and the cost was exactly what we thought it should be. Professional service all the way, from Kevin's coming by to measure the stairs to Rob and Bob's installation.
I would definitely recommend them and am planning to have them do some more work in our house soon. -

We had blinds installed ten years ago, and they're showing their age. We were looking for ways to get them fixed. I found the Yelp reviews for Armstrong and talked to them. They said if we brought the blinds in, they could ship them back to the company for repairs (they had a lifetime warranty) and it would only cost us $25 per blind. Liam was friendly and helpful, and didn't try to upsell us. Very happy with them.

Absolutely Top Notch Products and Best Customer Service Ever!
OK, no one paid me off, or hinted that I should make this review, but all I can say is that we ordered a couple of sets of blinds for our kitchen and bedrooms, and we could not be happier with the service that we received.
Liam was our salesperson, and from the moment we walked into their store, he was as friendly, courteous and professional as a human is ever likely to achieve on this earth. He was not pushy for any extra cost options, or anything like that. Just the facts, competitive low pricing, and terrific service.
After our visit to their store, Liam came out to our house (on time) to measure our blinds, and not long thereafter after comparing prices with other places, we had new blinds installed in our kitchen and bedrooms.
Upon installation, a problem did come up. As it turned out, our kitchen blind was too wide to fit between the back of our faucet and the window, so Liam came out the next morning, acknowledged the issue in the friendliest way possible, and had a new set on order with absolutely NO hassle, no extra cost nor problem whatsoever. Now just one week later, we have a set of blinds we are totally and completely happy with.
I give Liam @ Armstrong my highest possible rating ever. Great Job, and we'll definitely be back to shop from Armstrong again! -

We had Armstrong replace the carpeting in two bedrooms and refinished the wood floors in our living room. (This was last fall but I'm just getting around to reviewing it now.) We were really happy with every step of the process. Super reliable and fast and did a good job. They even sent someone back to do a touch up job after we left some footprints in the finish when we walked on it too early due to a miscommunication about when it'd be dry. Highly recommended.
Also when we were picking stuff out, Liam was very helpful and didn't upsell--at one point he even discouraged us from trading up to a more expensive brand because it wasn't worth the price increase. -

I've dealt with my share of flooring guys as well as a whole slew of other home improvement suppliers. Let me just say that the majority of the time, no purchase and installation goes without some problem. Some are the manufacturer's problem, some due to the shipper, some the local reps and some from the installers. But there's always a problem. Except for Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum.
I brought a very specific carpet sample into Armstrong and immediately the sales professional Kevin knew the manufacturer, weight and type of carpet. After a few estimates and a very reasonable quote I decided to set up measurement and installation dates. Installers were professional and minimized the wall scuffs to what I consider completely acceptable (stiff carpet, small rooms, very dark walls equals a bit of touch up paint). They were in and out in the allotted time, were apologetic for the small scuffs and follow-up by Kevin was prompt and courteous.
I also revisited the store for another purpose and was greeted and treated really well a second time. They take pride in the work and really seem to want to make sure the process goes well and that you have a successful purchase. I wish every vendor knew their products as well and practiced the same level of professionalism. Honestly, it is refreshing when things just work.
And btw - I do shop around and most other flooring stores are hit and miss - either a poorer selection or sales people who either don't seem to care much about you or their products. And those that seemed somewhat OK, didn't install the confidence that Armstrong did.
I can't wait to specify more flooring for my clients (and go back here)! -

It was a small job, simply interior stairs and landing, but it was long overdue.
We live in the West Portal area and walked into Armstrong Carpet one day and met Kevin.
At the shop he was attentive and guided us with helpful suggestions in making our choice.
Two days later he was out for measurements along with samples.
We slightly changed from our original selection, when we saw the sample on the stairs. Some are blessed with an eye for the subtleness of color. We do not have it but I believe Kevin does.
Seven days later, on schedule, two pro's, Bob & Rob, installed the carpet.
The selection process, carpet shipment and installation all went without a flaw.
Such an experience is all one can hope for.

All in all-- GREAT carpet store with great customer service.
I went in looking for some carpet padding and the man at the counter said "here, Merry Christmas, pass it on" and handed me a decent sized roll of padding... for NOTHING! He then REFERRED me to another carpet store which had remnants (I only needed a little bit of carpeting), which he had, but not a lot of. A project which I thought was going to come to be at least $50 turned out to cost me $10-- thanks to the nice people who work at Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum. -

I visited and spoke with sales persons at SIX different carpet stores, all of them in San Francisco. Most staff were aloof if you said you were looking for lower-cost carpeting. Some acted as though you were an inconvenience! One person promised to measure the rooms needing carpeting and didn't show up. Most of the stores have staff working on commission. Once you are associated with one salesperson, the others are reluctant to help you if "your person" isn't there when you come back.
If you don't want to spend the time doing an extensive search, visit this store in the West Portal. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I dealt with (and I dealt with 3) was courteous, friendly, informative, NOT pushy, and professional. They don't work on commission! Their prices were the best. They kept their promises. And they did an excellent job of removing old carpet and placing the new one. I am completely satisfied and would use them again. I recommend them wholeheartedly. -

Fantastic service! Beautiful outcome!
We have used this business twice for both new carpeting and manufactured flooring, and what can I say - the firm provides marvelous service. The showroom is full (to the rafters) with choices for carpeting, flooring, and window coverings. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful in the showroom, arrive on time for appointments, and install the product on time (completing my two jobs ahead of schedule), on budget, and with a beautiful final outcome. We worked with Liam on both jobs; he was helpful and professional in every way. We are really happy with the outcome of their work in our home. -

My carpet was installed on Friday as planned. The only small mishap was that my appointment was at 9am but they didn't show up until 10am. I called at 920am to see what the issue was and they apologized that the installers were running a little behind schedule but that they should be at my house soon and that he would call me when they were on their way which they did.
I was very happy with the installation. It was clean, neat and very professional. Additionally, Kevin stopped by halfway through the installation to see if I was happy with everything so far. The installers were in and out in 3 hours and I have that wonderful new carpet smell now. Everyone that has entered my front door has noticed and I absolutely love it!

My rugs were delivered on Friday. I helped Filipe get all of the rugs and mats installed, and he was very pleasant and patient with my indecisiveness on how best to place the most difficult to install rug. I heart Armstrong so much :)

I can't even imagine a smoother carpet shopping experience.
I would describe the customer service as: Absolutely no pressure to buy anything, just a vast knowledge of all options and a willingness to meet my expectations about aesthetic (nylon vs. wool vs. polyester and the spectrum between short vs. shag), functionality (e.g. sound absorption and grip in padding options), durability (e.g. how well it will hold up to rolling office chairs and how many years the various fibers can be expected to hold up), and a desire to make me happy by saving me money. Sure, Liam could have tried to sell me a big rug to fit under my bed, but who's looking under my bed? Instead, he helped me cut corners by showing me the stash of scrap carpet (which was still quite lovely but cheaper because no ordering was involved). Then, I was able to afford the really gorgeous area rug for my office.
Overall: Fantastic. I expected to spend the entire day trying carpet stores, but even though he was very busy (probably about 10 other customers in the store while I was there) and manning the store by himself, I was in and out (with 5 custom sized pieces of rug padding and 3 new rugs, 2 of which were custom sized) in less than an hour and a half. Now I'm finished, and I have the whole rest of the day. :) I don't yelp often, but with all of the time I saved, I had to give a little back. -

We had Armstrong install new carpeting in two bedrooms and the hallway. Liam was great in suggesting carpeting for us to consider. Kevin came out to measure the space and even offered us advice on the color of the carpet, given our paint and furnishings. (He's a professional who has an eye for color--he told us not to be afraid of a lighter color and he was right!)
Rob and Bob worked efficiently and quietly to get our new carpet in.
My husband and I believe in supporting local business (v. big box stores) and Armstrong was an excellent choice. They are professional, courteous, and really cared about our concerns and satisfaction. -

Yep, I gotta jump on the bandwagon for this one. Liam was amazing and helped us every step of the way with our selection. He was honest, informative and pleasant to do business with. I would recommend trying this place first if you're in the market for a new rug :) I guess I could write a longer review, but I think the reviews before mine cover the bases quite well.

My experience with Armstrong was topnotch from start to finish. We knew going into the meeting that we wanted to install an Amtico vinyl tile for our kitchen remodel. My husband contacted Amtico for a list of their certified installers and Armstrong's number came up again and again.
We set up an appt for Kevin to come out to our house for an estimate. He was on time, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Even though his quote was slightly higher than "the other guys", we went with Kevin because of his professionalism and timeliness.
The morning of the installation, Ian and another fellow showed up on time and were pleasant, professional and helpful. They did an absolutely beautiful job with the installation and I am thrilled with the results.
A few days after the installation, Kevin left me a message to see if we were satisfied with the job that Armstrong did. Absolutely! I will definitely use them in the future for other flooring projects. I highly recommend Armstrong Carpet and Linoleum for friendly and professional service. -

I would just have to echo all of the positive comments. Kevin and the rest of the guys at Armstrong were topnotch all of the way. Our project was to do a self-installation of Marmoleum Tile in our kitchen. It took a few trips to decide what we wanted and they were infinitely patient during our decision process. The tile arrived very quickly. What really set them apart was the solid advice and instructions on how to complete the project. During the whole process I was so glad to have gone to a smaller and longstanding business. I don't think I paid more than any other place where I would have bought the Marmoleum.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend someone to go there for their flooring needs, and won't hesitate myself when the next flooring project comes along. -

As a teacher, I'll find myself in the position of having to beg, borrow, and steal. Well, I called Armstrong Carpet to BEG them for carpet samples for my classroom library. After all, second graders need a comfy spot to sit whilst reading. The staff was incredibly helpful and more than accommodating. They gave me 20 carpet samples without blinking their eyes. 5 stars based on goodwill alone!

Everything went well. We dealt mostly with Liam and he was great. He came out and measured and helped us figured out everything. He ordered us samples and installation went perfect. No problems at all. They did 2 rooms of carpet and 2 rooms of linoleum. It only took 2 days and looked perfect. Really happy with the results. Great job!

They did our linoleum downstairs in our entry hall/laundry area and the beautiful carpet runner up our split level hardwood stairs. They even custom crafted a matching runner for the landing. The salespeople are professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgable. More importantly, the installation people did an excellent, professional job. We are ready have them back to carpet our downstairs bedroom. I had a horrible experience with Floorcraft doing our upstairs flooring, and would never consider working with anyone but Armstrong in the future. Be smart, save yourself time and money, and shop here - you won't be sorry.

Armstrong was the recommended carpet place for the building our office is in, so we called them for an estimate. The Armstrong rep came and carefully measured the area and showed us a few samples. He gave some ballpark figures, and though the job seemed to be more than we could afford, we asked for an estimate. He said he would prepare one and send it to us. We never got one. Weeks later, I called to ask if they could send the estimate. My call was directed to someone who took down the location and date of the measuring, and said that someone would call us back shortly. No one ever did. Big no vote of confidence in Armstrong Carpet.

I first discussed flooring with Armstrong in 2006 when we thought we had an emergency on our hands at my father-in-law's house. That did not turn into work for them, but the great concern and superb advice I got brought me back when there was an actual job to do at my home this year. Their products are great, their knowledge of the products superb, and the whole process through selection to installation went very well - even when WE had to ask to be rescheduled. The installers were professional, courteous and efficient, and we are really happy with the results.
I can't comment on price because we didn't go anywhere else - that's how nice and confidence-inspiring they were. Kevin, Steve, Ian and Sean made our satisfaction their priority. -

This is a family owned operation in West Portal. It is a small store but has a good selection of hardwood, pergo, linoleum and carpet. The sales people are helpful and it is easy to pour through books of samples without a lot of hustle and bustle around. We decided on pergo floors and are very happy with it. The workers were professional, reliable and cleaned up after finishing. The prices are just a tad more than Home Dept but I found the extra customer service was worth the extra money.

Excellent service from very nice people. They made choosing my beautiful, affordable carpet and having it installed the easiest and smoothest part of my apartment retrofit project. Steve told me that there'd be a seam in the carpet in my hallway, but either the crew did such an expert job of installation that the seam doesn't show, or they were able to install it without a seam. I will definitely go to Armstrong when it's time for a new bathroom floor, and would recommend them to anyone.

It is obvious that Kevin from Armstrong really cares about making sure his clients are well taken care of. I just had Kevin at Armstrong put in white oak hardwood floor with a walnut feature strip in my kitchen, dinning room and living room. They also refinished the original floors in the bedrooms and office. They did such a fantastic job. The service and advise I received was incredible. Everyone at the store and the installers were very professional and thoughtful. The installers even went through the trouble of taping plastic sheeting over my new cabinets to mitigate the amount of dust from the sanding. The installers made the transitions look like they were original to the house. It was like walking into a new home in 1920, when they finished. I am overjoyed with my new floor and the experience with Armstrong. Don't go anywhere else, you won't be disappointed.

Very disappointed with this company. I called the shop in the after noon and told them I had a job for them based on their reviews. The job was in my rental in San Francisco and told them that I was traveling from the east bay the following morning and needed to pick carpet out and have someone come out to look at the job first thing in the morning. They said they would be open and ready at 7:30 am and there would be no problem i just needed to come pick out the carpet. I drove out to SF early so I could be there at opening time and no one ever showed up. In fact I waited to 35 minutes hoping someone was just late. This really screw my whole day up and threw everything off on the job i was doing. I was so mad I called the shop and left a message. Eventually I got a call back apologizing for missing me. It still was 35 minutes of my time wasted not to mention the traveling through commute traffic in the AM from the east bay to be there when he said he would to open. I can't recommend this shop. My experience was very different from the others posted. Very disappointed!

A few years ago, I had experienced an absolute disaster carpet installation (on hallway stairs) from one of the large home improvement stores. So this time, I decided to contract only with a professional carpet company. After reading the reviews on yelp, I chose Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum Co. Thank you Yelpers!! You were right on!
I had researched wool carpet brands on-line before viewing them "in person" at two San Francisco carpet stores. I wound up contracting with Armstrong Carpet and Linoleum because their bid offered the exact high quality product I had chosen (including installation) for a lower price than Abbey... AND they're all nice people too!
My salesman, Liam, was friendly, very knowledgeable and completely understood what I was looking for. He special ordered several carpet samples and had them sent directly to my house. There were no high pressure sales tactics either. My family made their selection at a leisurely pace.
Liam sent two of the best installers, Simon and Lau, to install a patterned wool carpet on a stairway and upper hallway, and then a different patterned wool carpet with a special border in the dining room. Since my house is very old, crooked, and nothing is square, I knew it would be a difficult job....especially on the patterned carpet up the stairs. Well it was the best carpet installation job this old house has ever had!! The installers arrived on time, worked methodically, very professionally, and were very detail oriented. They covered the floors surrounding the work area with protective tarps, and left everything clean and vacuumed when they finished. I even got a follow-up phone call to see if I was satisfied with their work. Now my house looks like a model home and I am absolutely delighted!! I highly recommend Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum Company and will definitely use them again in the future!! -

A perfect experience. Having already shopped at CA Carpets (dubious quality and lo-end but prices good) and Abbey (most unwelcoming), I read all of the wonderful comments about Kevin. From the start, he wants to guide you to the decision that is right for you. I felt no pressure to go for something over my budget, rather he wants you to be happy. Sent me off with 8 books of carpet samples, (no deposit as required by Abbey--obnoxious). The variety, quality, colors, textures is enough to overwhelm and have trouble deciding. However, I somehow fell into what I liked within hours. He educated me about how to find value and has an easy personality. He got my place measured within a day, placed the order and there it was following week. Installers are artisans. Showed up on time, set up perimeters with care. This carpet can be tricky as seams showed and it isn't forgiving as it has a vertical line. Again perfection. I cannot believe how smooth the surface is, little wall damage, all end tucked in and rolled to perfection. This is my 3rd experience with a full house carpet install and was by far the best. Cannot say enough about Armstrong. They're professional, courteous, helpful, follow through. Nothing can be improved.

I had a pretty small carpet job I needed done and these guys were great. They found me a "remnant" piece of exactly the carpet I was looking for (thereby saving me lots of $$$) and were even able to fit me in for an installation within just a few days. Great customer service, even though it was such a small job. I'll definitely go back for my next project.

I had Armstrong install Marmoleum in my kitchen, and I am sooo happy that I used them! Everything went perfectly -- all appts and deadlines were kept, and the floor is perfect. The installer took extra time and effort to help save an old-school original metal seam between the new floor and my hallway floor, which is fabulous because you can't get them like that anymore, and it's one of the many original features of my 1940's house that I'm trying to preserve. I can't recommend them highly enough. Love them and would use them again in a heartbeat.

Armstrong installed the carpets in my HOA, so I contacted them, as well as two other companies. Their selection was extensive and Steve showed me just about every line to find just the right color. The quoted price was competitive with the other companies, so customer service was the major discriminator. Kevin ordered larger samples that I received in just two days (it took two weeks for samples ordered by other companies). Installation went smoothly, Pedro and his team arrived on time and the results were terrific.

We initially went to Abbey Carpet to purchase new carpet for our stairs as well as an area rug. When the salesman there would not break down the estimate (this was carpet priced at $130+ per square yard) to our satisfaction, we went to Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum in West Portal to get a quote on the same job. Kevin at Armstrong was happy to help us - he identified the carpet we were looking for and came out to the house within a couple of days to take the measurements. He had an estimate for us (approximately $600 less than Abbey's quote) the following day. When we gave the go-ahead, the carpet was ordered and received within a couple of weeks and the installation was arranged for a couple of days later. The installers did a wonderful job and Kevin came out to the house personally to make sure the installation was done to our satisfaction. All in all, a very good experience and we would highly recommend Armstrong.
