The pizza is pretty good... not phenomenal Chicago Style, but certainly good enough to fill any craving. Great toppings, the sauce might be lacking a kick. I like adding garlic and hot sauce at home.

I went in and picked up and they have some sort of buffet. I would dig that.

Note: I only had the thin crust. We got one white pizza with 3 cheeses, tomato slices, and bits of spinach - this is typically a slam dunk. It looked, felt, and tasted like cardboard. The pizza went stale before we were done eating it. I also got a plain (no toppings other than maybe extra cheese) & thin crust because that's usually how I test any supposedly good pizza place and native marylanders swear by Armands.

It's garbage. I probably need to try the chicago style pizza but I can't see it being any better because my pizza didn't have good or even fresh crust, and that's a deal breaker.  Period.

I would actually consider papa john's before going to armands again, and I haven't been to papa john's in years.

If you like mouse poop and cockroach carcasses, this place is for you.
Mice literally drop/fall/jump from the ceiling.  I was there.  I saw it happen.  Chicago?  No.  Just pan pizza.  Better than most pizza around DC, unfortunately.
A word of caution:  one of the worst restaurant companies in the metro area.  Employees are expected to last no more than one year and are paid accordingly at about $8 per hour (drivers: $4.75), hence the sometimes crappy service.
There are few Silver Spring options other than "M&Os", so I suggest ordering from them instead.

They have excellent philly cheesesteak subs. I haven't tried the pizza. Their wings are big and tasty. The chicken alfredo is also very tasty. The only problem I have with Armands is the price. You get a philly cheese steak and some pasta and it's $20.
The restaurant itself isn't very large. I wouldn't go there to sit down.

i've eaten armand's pizza starving and i've eaten armand's because it was on the table; i've paid full price and i've gotten the monday special - because of this, i feel comfortable saying that the pie there is second-tier at best.

    i usually make a distinction between chain-restaurant pizza and smaller, family-type places like this one ... they're just groups general best dealt with apart; that said, i'm not sure armand's even holds its own against fast-food spots like dominoes or papa johns;

and it's a shame - it's convenient for sure, but the fun stops there.

My dad and I visited the Silver Spring location recently during lunchtime on a weekday.  We entered the restaurant and were not greeted by any servers.  There were three tables with customers and the rest were empty.  However, almost all the empty tables had plates and glasses that had not been bused.  After standing around for a bit one of the staff behind the counter waved us to an open table.

We waited for 5 minutes and no one stopped by to get our drink order or even give us menus.  We noticed two other tables had no food and angry looking customers.  If the restaurant had been busy this might have been understandable but there were only 4 tables with customers and a number of the staff were horsing around in the kitchen area.  After waiting and seeing the lack of service we decided to leave.

My dad used to live very close to the Silver Spring store and was a weekly customer for years.  Most of the delivery drivers knew him by name.  The food and service was excellent over the years, both in-store and delivery.  My dad recently retired and moved from the area and *really* wanted some Armand's pizza.  However the service we received on our last visit was unacceptable and we won't be returning to the Silver Spring location.

Sadly, pizzeria UNO is better pizza, but we eat here for location. The pizza is good, just not great. The biggest problem I have with this location is inconsistency with the pizza. Sometimes they are awesome, others not so much.

This was my first experience with "Chicago Style" pizza...and if this is how it all is, it will most likely be my last.

The service was really not great...we were about 30 minutes away when we called to order for pick up.  And was still on hold as we drove up...no one ever came back.  We walked in and everyone was sort of just standing around talking.  No one waiting in line, and maybe 4 tables with people.  My friend said something about being left on hold and was told that they were having "kitchen issues."  Not sure how that means they can't talk on the phone, but ok.

We ordered a large Hawaiian and was told it would take 30 minutes.  We came back and, after we paid, realized that around 1/4 of the pizza was burnt....as in almost completely black.  Grrr.  Considering that we had already waited a total of an hour, there was no way we were going to wait for another one.

On to the pizza itself.   I'm not sure if all the bread and cheese overwhelmed the flavors of the pineapple and bacon, or if there just wasn't very many toppings there to begin with.   Either way, it didn't have much flavor at all.  It was sort of like eating breadsticks with toppings and running out of the marinara dipping sauce.

Either way, I doubt I'll be going back.

    Mmm... pizza.

Curtis had to fly to Chicago and back (in the same day) on Sunday. Naturally, he just wanted something quick to eat before crashing into bed from exhaustion. I was inspired to find a restaurant that offered Chicago style pizza, and Armand's is the closest to home. I ordered a large "Penta" pizza. Hot, thick gooeyness! Granted, it wasn't as massive or tasty as the pizzas we've had in Chicago, but it'll do. There were several slices leftover. Whatever, I LOVE reheated pizza.  All in all, this is as good as Chicago style pizza gets in DC. At the very least, Silver Spring.

Five stars for the pizza and  two stars for the service equals three stars overall.

My friend from San Diego whom I haven't seen in years was in DC for a quick stopover before heading back west the next day.  She wanted to go to Armand's, reminiscent of her years she lived in Glover Park and frequented the Tenleytown location with her med school husband.

I haven't been in ages and it was just as good as I remembered, but quite pricey I might say.  One of the pizzas our table had was their medium (6pc) deep dish Penta Pizza.  It sounds fancy, but it's just a five cheese pizza.  Needless to say, it was cheesy!  The price?  $16.99.  I guess at just under $3 per slice that's not too bad.  The same-sized pizza for the kiddies which was plain cheese (3 kinds, so they say)  was $13.49.  It looked just as cheesy and probably did not taste much different.

The beer selections are boring; Sam Adams being my choice.

It was not crowded as one might expect for a Wednesday night .  Do you think I could get my beer please?   We ordered our first pizza, while waiting for the folks coming in rush hour traffic from Arlington to get there. It took forever for the pizza to get to us!  We called our waitperson over and said we hoped she wasn't holding it until the others came.  She said she did not know what was taking so long.

The rest of our party made it and ordered immediately.  Still no Penta Pizza!

Suddenly a group of eight enter and our table service seized to exist.  No refills on soda or beer.  We got her attention to bring us the tab and when she arrived with it, we thought $96 seemed a bit high for three pizzas and a few drinks.  Turns out she added another table's $30-something bill to ours.  Oops?

Not the best experience, but seeing my friend and her 11 year old daughter who is now four inches taller than me, priceless.

P.S.  They have a tiny parking lot, but there is a county lot across the street.  It is free after 6pm.

Every bite was just as good as the last.

Hubbs and I came in after a massive Italian food craving attack.  I needed carbs a needed them NOW!! (apparently, I don't know what was going on).  We got the pesto bread as the appetizer; yum with cheese, pesto and sun dried tomatoes.

Then, in a weird twist of fate as I was looking at their menu, my craving switched to Thai....it's cause I laid eyes upon their Thai Chicken Fettuccine on the menu and it sounded delish!  I asked the waiter what he thought about it, "It's up there on my list of favorites here."  Ok, I thought, let's see if his taste buds are functional.

Hubby ordered the New Mexican pizza, but unfortunately couldn't resist the urge to ask what was on the Old Mexican.  Oh no.....he didn't.  Yep, he did and he was very proud of himself.  The waiter was confused.  I shook my head.

This is rather funny isn't it?  We went out for Italian and ended up with Mexican and Thai...well in the Italian way.

The New Mexican pizza was delicious.  The crust was excellent, not too dry, good amount of doughy-goodness and no grease puddles on the pizza.  It was topped with ground beef, salsa, Colby jack, jalapenos and black olives.  Awesome!!  My Thai Chicken Fettuccine was HEAVENLY.  Not too oily, nice amount of hot and scattered with garlic flavored chicken, grilled peppers, chives, cooked carrot shavings and peanuts!!  Thank the lords for leftovers!!  I think they put something in their food that turned my "shovel" switch on....I was seriously destroying the food and was more than happy to.

The service was just fine at 8:30 pm on a Saturday night and my date and I left there completely satisfied.  Sunday morning, we were eating the reheated pizza on the deck and enjoying the cool morning breeze and the filtered sun.  What a pizza!

    Oh DISAPPOINTMENT.

I expected REAL Chicago deep dish style pizza. I wanted to see a thinner crust and more stuffed toppings. Instead it was all bread. BAH! I then expected the flavor to make up for the lack of authenticity. Nothing... flavor was not exciting and not worth it.

    Not coming back EVER.

This is a great neighborhood deep dish pizza place.  It takes a while to arrive, but the pizza is worth waiting for!  A tip: it tastes better if you go easy on the tomato sauce. Also, parking is easier at the county lot across the street.

Unfortunately, the service can be hit-or-miss. One time, our (over) enthusiastic waiter gave us Cokes to go when we left, piled on top of our leftover pizza. Another time, our server virtually disappeared and we had to get service from another waiter. You'd think it would be hard to disappear in such a small restaurant, but I guess you can.

Oh, Armand's, you are my guilty pleasure. I know I shouldn't like you as much as I do, but I adore you! Utterly adore you! With your deep dish, gooey deliciousness, and the brilliant burst of flavor that hits my tongue as soon as I take a bite. The dough, cheese, sauce, and vegetables blending together into near-perfect nirvana. We'll ignore the complete and utter sketch of the parking lot, and the near suicidal left turn I have to make to get to you. You're perfect, darling, just the way you are.

Too bad that my bathroom scale does not agree with me about your awesomeness.

We had very high hopes when we discovered a Chicago style pizza place near our new apartment in Silver Spring. My wife's from Chicago, and though I'll never shake my New Jersey roots and my preference for the vastly superior New York pizza, I grew up on Zachary's Chicago Pizza in Berkeley, CA and later Sicilia's Chicago Pizza in Boston and love a good Chicago pizza.

Sadly, Armand's provided no such thing. We paid about $17 for a 'large' pizza, and got what would have been (generously) termed a medium at any other Chicago pizza place I've been to. On top of that, it simply wasn't even a Chicago style pizza! The crust was deep-dish style, but on top of that (fairly lackluster) crust was the standard array of pizza sauce, cheese, and topics that you'd find at any pizzeria that didn't even know Chicago had their own style of pizza. A proper Chicago pizza not only has a deep dish crust, but FILLS that crust with sauce, cheeze, and toppings. And sauce shouldn't be little more than a spiced tomato paste, it should be a thick, chunky mass of tomato, accented with basil and other herbs and spices. Most importantly, THE SAUCE GOES ON TOP OF THE CHEESE!

Not only was Armand's pizza not good Chicago pizza, it was also neither Chicago nor simply good pizza. We will absolutely not be ordering from here again.

For the record, and for those who don't know, THIS is what a Chicago pizza should look like: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

We just recently moved to the Silver Spring area so we are currently doing the requisite delivery food check-list: good Chinese place? Check... Good Indian food? Check. And now having found Armand's: good pizza delivery? Check.

Most pizza lovers fall into one of three categories, defined by what they think makes a good pizza: the cheese lovers, the sauce fanatics, and the toppings connoisseurs. I currently live with a sauce junkie and since I feel that cheese makes or breaks a pizza, finding a pizza place we both agree on is rare, to say the least. However, Armand's has done it. I love the amount of cheese and toppings they put on the pie and my boyfriend adores the unique sauce they use.

A few words of caution, though: if you aren't as sauce obsessed as my significant other, ask them to go a bit easy on the sauce ladling... even the boyfriend thought they went a bit overboard. Additionally, order from them BEFORE you realize you're hungry. They take a bit of time to deliver (45 mins to an hour on average) so prepare in advance.

Less than impressed with this place.  This is definitely not Chicago-style deep dish, and they shouldn't advertise as such.

When I walked in to pick-up my pepperoni pizza, I opened the box and, staring back at me, was the exact same pizza you'd see at any other chain pizza place.  The price tag that went along with that Domino's-equivalent pizza was about twice what you'd normally pay for that kind of pizza.  The taste of the pizza lived up to the look of the pizza, completely indistinguishable from and about as memorable as any other regular pizza I've ever had.

If you want Chicago-style pizza, don't come here.  If you want a typical chain pizza joint pizza, go to another chain pizza joint.

I love Armands  pizza- it's a taste that's followed me since middle school, and it's just fantastic. Other pizzas are so greasy or full of preservatives- I end up sick afterwards!

With Armands, you get what you pay for: great pizza that fills without the frills. They're Spinach and Garlic Deep Dish is my favorite- although cheese is, obviously, great too.

This location has it's ups and downs, though:

Ups: Prompt service, SEATING (which you almost never see in a pizza place anymore) and a huge variety of sandwiches, pastas, and other dishes for those people who just don't happen to be pizza lovers. Also, if you order online, you can actually build up 'ebucks' pretty fast- which, actually, has really saved me money!

Downs: REALLY limited delivery area, the boundaries of which are very strictly enforced. For example, I live about one minute from the street that serves as their boundary, and they flat out refused to deliver to me...Which is sad, because of the next 'down'..

They traffic around their location is a ZOO! Very limited parking, right next to an intersection and squished between a few other small businesses..There is actually a parking lot across the street, but there are meters, and..You have to cross that STREET..I hate that street...

However, it's all worth it for the pizza...If you can actually get it delivered! But still, if you're just picking up, the parking issue isn't so bad...

As others have commented, it's not real Chicago-style pizza but it's OK. Usually they do a fair job on delivery but right now I've been waiting over an hour for my delivery, and when we called them we got an indifferent, "We're busy today." Never mind that we're regular customers, who order often. No attempt was made to mitigate the wait by offering a discount, etc.

If you like salads, they have really big salads, big enough for 2.

Pretty tasty: not the best deep dish pizza I've had, but good nonetheless.  The medium size is plenty for two people - there is so much cheese and bread with every slice that it doesn't take much to fill you up!  I tried the spinach and garlic "signature" style this time around... can't believe I'm saying this, but I think the garlic actually could have been stronger (I barely noticed it in there) - maybe it was just that batch, but the main flavors were from the cheese and the marinara sauce, both of which were great, but I could have just gotten a plain cheese pizza instead.

It cost me $15 after tip to have a medium pizza delivered, about average these days... I wouldn't say it was BETTER than what you'd get from Domino's, but it is definitely different if that's what you're looking for.  Delivery took about 30 minutes on a Friday night, on the short end of the 30-45 minute wait they quoted me when I called in the order.  Nice guys both on the phone and delivering.

Pretty good pizza, decent pasta, indifferent service gets three stars!

My visits are almost always on Tuesday night when they have the pizza and salad buffet. I can't count on getting my favorite toppings but there will be pizza immediately available when I arrive, rather than the long wait. Armand's is a favorite delivery place for our neighborhood, but call before you get hungry because it takes a while to prepare and deliver.

The puzzling part of eating there is the odd combination of having excess staff hanging around, the restaurant half empty, yet slow and disengaged service. I guess the servers would rather stand behind the counter and drink soda than actually serve people.

If you're patient, great pizza can be yours!

Note - this location is not wheelchair accessible because of the steps and the configuration of the front doors.

I LOVE the Armands in Rockville and the original in Tenleytown, so it pains me to poorly review this location. The pizza is just so subpar here that I can't believe it's allowed to call itself Armands. I don't know if they have a crappy oven or what, but the crust is no where near the crisp of what it's suppose to be. It's such a huge disappointment that I never get to eat Armands these days even though I live within delivery distance of this location!

Being from New Mexico I got really excited when I saw that they had a "New Mexican" pizza. I think if they had green chile rather than jalapenos on the pizza it would have been more authentic. The pizza was good and I enjoyed how filling each slice was. If you order a large you'll have enough food for 2-3 meals.

As a relatively recent transplant to the area I've been more than pleased to have one of the NON-CHAIN pizzeria's within a stone's throw.  I've eaten in for lunch and had more pies delivered than I would like to admit.

Solid Chicago pizza.  Thick crust, deep, saucy, chock full 'o' pizza goodness with just enough crispness in the crust to lock in all of that wonderful stuff.

Our dine in experience was..  just okay.  Sparse service - my wife loved the cheese steak - the all you can eat lunch pizza/salad bar was being replenished as we left..... 45 minutes after we arrived (my  poor choice).

Delivery for us (less than 2 miles from the Silver Spring location) has never been a problem - 35 minutes tops.

Parking on site can be tough, just pay the 50 cents across the street in the city lot.

    Kid friendly.

Our delivery pizza of choice, Armands generally gets the job done. I'd say 40% of the time it's fine, 20% of the time it's a bummer, and 40% of the time they knock it out of the park. The thin crust is all right, but the deep dish is the way to go. I get the sliced tomatoes and garlic/spinach toppings -- wonderful. Mr. X is Chicago-born and says this is some of the best he's had outside of Chi-town. We have never once graced the dining room with our presence, because delivery is just so much easier -- but plan ahead. It takes 45-60 minutes from when you call.

But its far from good Chicago Pizza.  This place cant touch Lou Malnatis, Giradanos, or UNO's (not the Chain) from Chi Town.  However its better than Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc.  I'm a firm beleiver that there isn't one thing that makes a pizza good.  The Crust, Sauce, Cheese, and Toppings all need to be good.  Nothing here stands out as being good.  I live real close so I'll be back.  But Mama Lucia's in Silver Spring is much better.

It appears that Armand's, as a whole, has really fallen off over the years, and the Silver Spring location is leading the decline.  The pizzas are definitely not what I remember of Armand's, and the server, though annoyingly pleasant, was clueless about the menu items and table service, generally.  I could go into much more detail, but I'll just leave it at disappointment. For the prices Armand's charges for its pizzas, I expect much, much more.

So I was sick of getting Pizza Hut all of the time and wanted to try a local pizza shop.  Well, I was disappointed.  I got a thin crust with cheese and sausage on half.  It wasn't cooked all of the way--it was doughy and dry on the outside.  There was lots of cheese and little sauce.  Now that may just be their style, but I didn't fancy it.  Maybe I should have got the deep dish.  I'd like to give them another chance, but it might not happen.  People have recommended Ledo's; maybe that will be better.

I used to live in Silver Spring, and this was my default pizza delivery place. Why in the world would someone order from Domi-NO!'s or Pizza Rut when she could have a thin crust Sgt. Pepper's or Harold with jalepenos instead? Delivery takes at least 45 minutes (sometimes closer to an hour), so Armand's requires forethought and forbearance. But oh me, oh my, when you want a pie...

I ate in the restaurant once. I think the pizza was good, but I was too drunk for it to register.

I love the other Armand's locations, and I have been to this location multiple times... and it gets worse every time. This review is from dinner with my husband 4/29/11 (Friday 7:00 p.m.). We ordered the buffalo wings and 1 large pepperoni deep dish pizza. The wings were disgusting, period. (fatty, small, lack of taste) To top it off, they got my husband and I sick. We know this because our stomachs hurt by the time the pizza arrived at the table 40 minutes later. I cannot believe they call this "deep" dish pizza. There's nothing deep dish about it. It's thick crust pizza with a little bit of cheese, sauce and toppings. The pizza was subpar; the other locations taste MUCH better. Skip this pizza spot. There are plenty of other good pizza spots around (Pacci's & Flippin' Pizza to name a few).

Terrible experience! My husband and I went in late one afternoon and were the ONLY people in the place. The manager and one waiter were there.. We ordered one pizza and it took almost TWO HOURS to get our food! Again, we were the only people In the place and we were dining in! We could hear people in the kitchen yelling and joking around so we knew they were back there they just didn't feel like making our pizza I guess. The waiter blamed it on the kitchen but it appeared that he just didn't tell them to make the pizza.  Then two hours and free warm salads from the buffet later we got our pizza.  It was good. But not AT ALL worth the wait. I had to demand a discount for having wasted two hours of my day because our waiter didn't feel like we needed one and then only got 10% off. I think after this big of a mistake it should have just been free! We order delivery now which is usually ok. Takes about an hour which is too long considering I live a few blocks away! Overall not impressed with the terrible service
