The practice is neat and clean and the service here is fantastic. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, and they take my insurance ;).
I went a number of years without going to a dentist before coming here - and I paid for it - but the work they did looks good, and has held up well.
I would definitely encourage anyone looking for a dentist in the Arlington area to look these guys up. -

I'm not sure why this place has gotten so many poor reviews. I found my visit very enjoyable. Who would have thought that a visit to the dentist would be enjoyable? Very modern and spacious waiting area. Friendly office staff. Xbox stations for the kids. Each examination room has its own television set, so you can watch the local programming while getting your teeth cleaned. After the cleaning, the television turns into a viewing screen for the dentist to show you xrays and other photos taken of your teeth and gums.
Dr. Duong used an ultrasonic cleaner for most of the cleaning. If you don't like the sound of ultrasonics, then you won't like this clinic. I didn't mind the sound so much, but the water was ice cold! But he was very gentle and didn't cause any pain. His assistant did a good job with the suction hose so I wouldn't drown.
This visit was very positive, and I have no qualms about going back in six month for my next cleaning. -

Okay so I'm glad I went here before I read the reviews, because I wouldn't have made an appointment here.
I uploaded a bunch of photos. Place is super clean. The design itself is sort of the opposite of the comforting local dentist office, but the comfort was definitely there, it just didn't come in the sort of cozy small office. The staff there was friendly and, somewhat disconcertingly, exceptionally good-looking. As in, every single staff person. It got sort of alarming after awhile.
I went in first yesterday because I had a very sore tooth, one that I'd had a huge cavity filled about six months ago. I called at 230pm, and asked if they had any appts in near future, they had just had a cancellation and let me come in at 245pm. They did x-rays, then the doctor (very young guy, Dr. P) saw me and did some tests, determined I either needed a root canal or the tooth pulled. He wrote me an rx for antibiotics and sent me on my way.
I got an appt the next day for an in-house endodontist consult with Dr. S (I'm sort of embarrassed I don't know any of their names). So that's today. Came in at 11, they did another x-ray, then the doc said that she'd seen it and it would def need a root canal. So I just left and came back in an hour, got the root canal today. It was sort of anxiety-provoking in the beginning (I'm only ever had cavities or my wisdom teeth out, and I had general anesthetic for that). But Dr. S was a pro and she had me in and out of there in an hour, no fuss.
So, they get five stars for 1) seeing me on short notice twice & 2) making the experience painless and personable. -

Excellent practice, but if they never answer the phone when you call to update information, it wastes enough of your time to choose a different dentist.

After reading these reviews on Yelp, I was really nervous about going to my appointment here but I went ahead anyways and I'm glad I did. Place is super clean and modern. Kids have their own wing filled with kids decorations. As far as my check-up - it was flawless. I even got to watch some tv on a flat screen tv as the hygienist was cleaning my teeth. Unfortunately they found a small cavity but using the same tv, they showed me where the cavity was and what it looked like. The location of the office is also perfect for me since I live in the neighborhood and was walking distance from the office, but the Clarendon metro is just 2 blocks away and they also have free parking. Oh did I mention that they send your cell phone text message reminders about your upcoming appointment?

AVOID!
I am new to Clarendon and chose Arlington Center for Dentistry for the location and clean, modern facility - the receptionists were lovely, as were my x-ray technician and hygienist, but I was blown away by Dr. Nguyen's diagnosis of 8 cavities (I've had maybe two my entire life). When she told me that my habits were just fine, and that good brushing and flossing habits cannot prevent biting surface cavities, red flags went up... and the alarm bells were worsened by how eager the sales specialists were to get me booked for hundreds of (post-insurance) dollars of filling work.
Long story shot, I just returned from a second opinion, where the dentist took pictures one by one of the diagnosed "cavities," which were, unsurprisingly, non-existent. A couple could be chalked up to stains from coffee-drinking (which I guess makes ACD just incompetent, not dishonest?), but the rest... this dentist described them as "like baby teeth" in the complete and total absence of decay.
I cannot believe how close I came to getting 8 unnecessary fillings... I get that everyone's gotta make a buck, but this is oral surgery, not up-selling a car stereo, for goodness sake. I'm glad I followed my B.S. instincts and hope others can avoid the same. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST.
p.s. the best part? when I went to cancel my follow-up appointment, one of the reps emailed me back to show me pictures "out of concern for your oral health" - but rather than attach my pictures, she sent someone else's confidential patient information by accident. nice data security. -

I have been here over a year with many visits due to my two regular appointments and having my wisdom teeth removed and then returning for treatment of dry sockets. My first visit was great. I was comfortable with Dr. Nguyen and felt she was extremely competent. I had a minor filling done at the request of the dentist. Yes, they tried to sell me a $200 toothbrush, but that didn't scare me off.
I had my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Asher and he is wonderful. All followups were done by Dr. Duong and I really liked him and felt like he genuinely cared.
I went back for my second annual cleaning and had new hygenist, who was terrible. She was extremely uncomfortable and the cleaning took an hour and a half because she kept getting up and leaving every 10 minutes. After an hour and a half, I was able to get xrays done by that hygenist, then after waiting another 15 min. another hygenist came in to redo the xrays. Finally, then I was able to see Dr. Nguyen again. After 10 minutes, she informed me that I needed two crowns and a filling. She even showed me the area on the tv and then told me to make an appt. I asked how all of that could happen in 6 months, and she just shrugged.
I said I would be getting another opinion before anyone removes my real teeth. I went two weeks later to another dentist at the recommendation of an oral surgeon, who said I have great teeth and don't even have a cavity!!! I never write reviews, but people need to be warned about this place. Stay away from Dr. Nguyen, she is very friendly and seems very knowledgable, but advises you to correct things that don't need it. After getting back on Yelp and reading more reviews, it appears this is a common occurence for them. Just be warned, don't let the friendliness and nice office fool you. -

After reading the reviews here, I tried to convince my girlfriend to change our appointment but boy am I glad she talked me out of it! Much of what is said here about the facility being super modern and nice is right on the money, however my experience with the clerical staff, dental hygenist, and my dentist were all OUTSTANDING.
My dentist was Dr. Doung, who was hands-on but gentle, and did a standard cleaning and walked me through my x-rays. He cautioned that my wisdom teeth would be impacted if they came in but did not try to rush me into having them removed.
Perhaps it was because I have dental insurance but by x-ray/cleaning only cost $5 and the filling for my chipped tooth cost $29. Overall I had a very positive experience and will be going back there in April. -

People will be quick to note the aesthetics and how ACD "looks cool inside," but more importantly, ACD cares. They're always looking to improve and that scores points with me. Going to the dentist is painful enough as it is, but you want to go to someone you can trust. They remember me when I visit and they're always looking for feedback and checking up to make sure I'm okay. With a friendly staff and great bedside manner, I don't have any complaints and I recommend them.

Fantastic staff. Clean. Always make our two kids (age 9 and 6) feel comfortable. Parking on street is easy and appointments start on time. Highly recommend.

I am in the process of suing these ding-dongs.
They were negligent in alerting me about a cavity and at my next cleaning SIX MONTHS later the doctor says "someone was supposed to call you."
I promptly went to another DDS (Dr. Dougherty in Falls Church...totally awesome) who found that they missed two other cavities, and that the original "oops" cavity now needs a crown.
All the stuff they were saying needed to be done (oh, the surface on this tooth is very thin and needs to a veneer or oh, there's a crack in this filling; we can do it now or monitor it) he did not mention at all. That stuff is all fine.
Run like hell away from these people. They are awful, awful, awful. -

FIrst off, I don't usually write reviews, but my experience with this place has been so horrible I want to warn others to steer clear of this center!
I had all my wisdom teeth extractions done here. In terms of the actual service, I had no issues. My main issue is with their incompetent staff. For my procedure I was quoted to only pay $200-$300 out of pocket (after insurance) and confirmed with them 3 times this would be the final amount bc I didn't want to be surprised later on. I had documentation to prove all this.
1 month later they change their tune and say the procedure was actually 3 times the amount I was quoted, and that whoever gave me the initial quote had made a mistake. End result, they wouldn't reimburse the full amount that was due to me and I had to pay close to $1K out of pocket. If they had been clear about the cost from the very beginning, I wouldn't have even removed all of my wisdom teeth!
Don't be fooled by their pristine office. They're only able to afford it bc they basically deceive and rob their patients. BE WARNED! -

Yes the office is very nice, but yes they charge for it. I needed a root canal plus bridge and their prices were above what my insurance company was willing to reimburse by about 10% and I had to pay the difference. I needed to cancel an appointment once and they said they have a 48 hour broken appointment policy with a $125 penalty!! They were "kind" enough to waive that fee the first time (wink wink).

The reviews on here have definitely surprised me. I've been going to this dentist for 1.5 years and have never had a problem with them. This is the best dentist I've ever been to.

This place is exceptional! It has great (and aesthetically pleasing) facilities. I was feeling pain on a Monday morning due to wisdom teeth coming in and they managed to fit me in that day to get a referral to their oral surgeon. That same day I scheduled to have them out the following Monday. I got three wisdom teeth out by Dr. Phuong Nguyen, all of which were impacted and she did it under 30 minutes! My healing process has been exceptional (only out from work 2 days) and I didn't need anything more than ibuprofen to deal with the pain.
The staff was also professional but sincerely kind and concerned for my health. I have never had such a pleasant dental experience! Go to Arlington Center for Dentistry!! -

I have had several great experiences at Arlington Center for Dentistry. I have been a patient for just over a year, and have had a couple regular check-ups, as well as gotten a filling.
My observations:
*The office is gorgeous and has just been remodeled-- I have honestly never seen a dentist office this modern and chic.
*The staff is very personable-- they call you by name and even follow up via email after a procedure, just to make sure you're feeling okay.
*You can sign up for text message reminders for appointments, and reply with a "C" to confirm your appointment-- very convenient.
*The technology is AMAZING. They actually have a tiny camera to take photos of your teeth on the spot. When the dentist noticed the beginnings of a cavity in one of my teeth, he used a thermometer-sized camera to take some pictures from different angles, and the photos immediately popped up on the computer screen to my left so I could see what he was talking about. Every aspect of the treatment was state-of-the-art and designed to enhance the patient experience.
In case you can't tell, I am a VERY satisfied patient of Arlington Center for Dentistry, and highly recommend it! :) -

Pros: Brand new office, nice facility, accesible hours, tv's in every exam room. And that's it.
Cons: EXPENSIVE. They quote you a price that is wayyyy more than other dentists charge. So when you end up filing for insurance, the insurance doesnt cover all of it, and you are left with footing a $100+ bill for a root canal that would cost less than $40 with insurance.
Also, be prepared to deal with incompetent staff. They have a revolving door of front desk and dental techs. No one knows whats going on. They called me to cancel my post-op appointment because the "doctor had something come up", and pushed me back 2 months. 2 MONTHS!!!! And they expected me to avoid eating on that side of the mouth and continue a regimen of ibuprofen every 6 hours to reduce swelling until seen. Also, the day of the surgery, the dentist was staffed with 2 dental assistants who had not idea what they were doing. Just what you need when your mouth is wide open and sharp tools are prodding in- 2 assistants who dont know which tools to hand to the dentist nor how to hold them in my mouth as the doctor drilled away.
Every good dentist knows he/she needs to provide thorough post-operative care. I understand you had to cancel my appointment due to other personal reasons, but a good dentist would try to overbook me and fit me in asap especially if I just had major oral surgery. And NOT make me wait 2 months to see him/her.
I Am going to begrudgingly pay the $25 record fee and transfer to a new dentist. This practice needs to clean up their act. You cannot expect the patients to pay and arm and a leg to pay for you flat screens if you dont provide quality dental care. -

I went to ACD today for the first time. I had avoided the dentist for 4 or 5 years, as I'd never found one that I liked here in DC. This morning when I left my house, I thought "I really want to go to a dentist that looks like an apple store..." and seriously, I got there and thought "this is it!!" Finally, the dentist's office looks like it's moved into the 21st century.
I only had xrays and a cleaning done, and it went well. I haven't had any major work done there, so I may increase or decrease my rating in the future, but for a basic visit, my experience was excellent. -

I trust the quality of care at this place, but they have major problems with scheduling. I had to wait nearly 2 months to get a root canal on a tooth that was extremely painful. They said someone would surely cancel and I'd be able to come in sooner, but did that happen? Nope. Their brilliant solution to the long wait time: A prescription for Percocet. Lovely.
Not only that, a few days before my root canal, they called me to say there had been a "scheduling error" and they would have to push my treatment back even FURTHER. I had a rage black-out over the phone--I feel bad for being so rude to the receptionist, but evidently the squeaky wheel does get the grease--they were able to fit me in on the original day.
The endodontist who saw me (Dr. Son) was clearly way overbooked--this makes sense seeing as he is only available on Saturdays (something they really need to remedy, if you ask me). He appeared to be very rushed and kept asking the dental assistant what time it was, over and over again. It made me feel like it was my fault and I was inconveniencing him.
The facility itself is very nice--clean, modern, and you get to watch TV while your procedure is being done. The dentist who did my crown and fillings (Dr. Duong) was very good, and I do feel like both the endodontist and the dentist were competent, knowledgeable, and thorough.
I am debating whether or not to come back to this place--it's nice to be confident you got good treatment, but I don't know if it's worth the scheduling nonsense and the hectic nature of such a large office. -

I should have written this review several months ago, but please bear with me. I kept trying to give this place a chance: I checked them out myself before taking my kids and husband here. They did fine, although the front desk was somewhat unprofessional and they kept botching up the payment at the end--"oh, I calculated that wrong again. I need to charge your card another $30". The place was still under construction, but looked very streamlined and modern. I thought "Hey, they're new here. Must be working out the kinks."
Then, I made an appointment for my two kids. It had to be on a Saturday because that is the ONLY day that they see children. The visit was a disaster from the moment I stepped in! The receptionist cracked a joke about all the paperwork I would have to fill out, the wait was ridiculous, the person who took my children's x-rays was critical because my daughter is so scared and uncomfortable with the process ("even my 2 year old daughter can do it"--I'm not kidding, she really did say that to my 6 y.o.). Then they had to re-take the x-rays because they forgot to ask us to remove her earrings!!! When I had to step out to feed the meter two blocks away in the snow, the receptionist mentioned that they actually have free parking on the facilities but they keep forgetting to mention this to the patients. Ooops! I asked them to hold off any procedure until I returned from moving the car into their parking garage. When I returned, we waited 45 minutes, an hour... the dentist never showed up!!! I kept asking for help from the hygienist, the front desk. Nothing. I finally walked out. I never got the results from my daughter's x-rays (on the phone: "we can't seem to read them..."). I tried to make a follow up for my son's cavity, and was told that I would have to wait 3 months since children are only seen on Saturdays.
When I tried to have our DIGITAL x-rays emailed to my new dentist, I was told that I would have to come in, sign a waiver, pay $15 a set, and then wait several days. After all the problems they've put me through, it's just not worth it.
The dentists that we did see seemed nice. Too bad that every other aspect of this operation leaves you feeling like you're at the DMV from hell. -

This place is a joke. Completely incompetent support staff. I came in for work on my gums - my usual dentist office who does not have a gum specialist, so I came here because it was in my dental insurance network. Told them twice on phone, faxed in the info. I get there and have an appointment for something else. I tell them AGAIN, they find what I faxed. I get in with the dental assistant, she pulls someone else's paperwork, I correct them AGAIN. The dentist comes in, nice person but I could not understand her English. Finally I realize she is not checking my gums but looking for cavities, so I explain AGAIN, and she says oh yeah, your gums look bad. I bailed out at that point!!! Said forget it, I'm outta here!! Then I get the bill, they misspell my street and my name. AND, I already paid upfront so the bill is in error! Now I have to deal with these morons AGAIN to get it corrected.
