    The F-Stops Here!

If you are a photographer, novice or accomplished, you know or should know Arlington Camera! This is not one of those chain places with teenagers who didn't even know that cameras used to use film. This is where you find real experts! I've been coming here over 5 yrs and my brother over 10! I always see the same faces, these people know their stuff!

Need film they have it, need SD cards they have it, need lighting they have it, need paper they have it! Need a camera (digital/film/rented or sold), they have it! Need models... well... they can't do everything.

The best part is that unlike some other places, which I will not mention out of politeness but are on Irving Blvd near downtown Dallas, they are extremely polite and friendly! I go there even thought the competition is closer to me.

So take a drive to Arlington camera and strike a pose!

I keep wanting to like this place... I really do- I swear.

I'm all about supporting local business but I'm just going to have come to grips and say it: (standing from chair) My name is Alex, I'm a photographer, and I don't like Arlington Camera.  There I said it.  Phew, I feel much better.

This store is great for people who have lots of money to spend on an expensive hobby, or are pro enough that they are confident enough they can make a return on high-end photo gear, but for beginners or people that like this as a hobby and don't need to impress people with fancy gear I suggest the internet.  Let me illustrate:

Exhibit A:  I bought a remote shutter release from these guys for $20.  Found it online new and free shipping for 2.99... Fail me.

Exhibit B:  I bought an umbrella for like $30... just an umbrella.  I go online and buy two 7-foot stands, two umbrella brackets (that connet umbrella to stand with adjusters) and 4 umbrellas for $70!  4 umbrellas!  Sure the qualtiy isn't as good as the stuff Arlington Camera might sell, but to start out I don't want to drop $300 for the same set up.  I just want to have fun and experiment.

All I'm saying is I wish they catered more to beginners and amateurs.  If you're pro or wealthy you'll love this place.

In addition to this, I've never felt comfortable there.  I think they need to get a bigger location for one, but I've never felt comfortable with the staff either... nothing in particular- I just get heeby jeebies.  Maybe they're on commission and they sniff well that I probably am not going to buy so they try to brush me aside... perhaps.

Arlington Camera has been my photographic supply source since moving to Texas in 1996.  Their prices are good, their people are great, and they go out of their way to help you get the right equipment for your needs.

Whether you are talking $5,000 camera bodies, or $250 point and shoots, they take the time to help.  No pressure.  No arrogance.

One thing though - if you are a Canon shooter like I am, don't let them send you out with your shiny new Canon equipment in one of their obnoxious yellow Nikon bags.  Make them show a little respect and get a Canon bag from under the counter.

I have tried on several occasions to patronize this business, but have always been dissapointed. There is an apparent snobbery among the employees. It is almost like you are interupting them to get waited on. They are certainly knowledgable, but the general attitude needs an adjustment. I'll only return as a last resort. I want to support independent business people, but sometimes they make it difficult.

I have only Shopped here twice.
But I have been very satisfied both times.
The 2 things I purchased were a canon backpack to put my new t1i into.
    and a datacolor spyder cube.
Eventhough they weren't expensive products they were very helpful.
And seem very knowledgeable about the products they sell.

I will definitely be back when it comes time to buy the 70-200 lens for my camera.

What a great find.  Was visiting Fort Worth when the Olympus Pen launched this summer.  No one had it in stock, but Arlington Camera.  Melanie was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with.  She even ordered the flash unit (that hadn't shipped yet) and sent it to me up in the Chicago area.

Honestly a lot of camera shops can have some pretty unapproachable people working in them.  But Arlington Camera was a real breath of fresh air.

I rather make the trip from Dallas to Arlington just to buy my gear here, everyone here seem welcoming and willing to help with any questions you may have unlike other places. It's like family there
