Wow!! Talk about a hidden treasure! Just across the street from Bed, Bath and Beyond, and almost under EQ3 is Arkitektura. Stylish, fun and functional! I LOVE the back-slit sinks on the second floor. Oh yes, it will be mine!

The first floor also has a plethora of interesting furniture/art items. The Kitchen room is very well setup and carefully walks the line between commercial kitchen and home. The staff seemed fairly invisible, or rather thought I was. They hustled about, never speaking, even when almost bumping into me coming up the stairs. Strange. I didn't feel like they were rude, just like there were only figments of my imagination, not firmly centered in reality.

Nice store, beautiful furniture and very friendly staff who are completely disorganized.  Nightmarishly and unorganized order processes and poor follow through by staff after you hand them your money.

Get your ideas here and go buy it elsewhere.  They're not organized and the follow through is poor.

We are remodeling our second bedroom so we came to Arkitektura to see what they had.

There was some Missoni bedding that we were interested in.  When we asked the price of the Missoni "bedspreads", the saleswoman scowled at us and told us that our terminology was out of date and that a bedspread was something in a hotel that goes across the bed and down to the floor.  She continued to talk down to us, stating that we needed to update our old fashioned terminology.

After the lecture, she gave us some ballpark prices but we were so put off by her attitude that we left without buying anything.  We were a bit perplexed as to why someone would treat us that way, when all we wanted to do was patronize her shop.  In fact, we had furnished our living room with them about 8 years ago and the staff at that time was great.

Missoni's own website uses the term "bedspreads" too, so I suppose they are due for a lecture from Arkitektura as well.

If only Arkitektura's service sparkled like it's beautiful show room,  it would get 5 stars.  Until that happens, there are plenty of other showrooms that would actually be happy to have customers.

I am approaching furnishing my newly built contemporary place as a work in progress by selecting distinct pieces over an extended period rather than backing the truck up to one mainstream store. I take a great deal of time both on-line and in stores to narrow looks and feels before committing. The people at Arkitektura In-Situ (especially Kat) understand my game plan. There I am encouraged to talk though my ideas, show pictures and even talk about things I have seen elsewhere. I find them to be knowledgeable, approachable and enthusiastic when we reach that moment when we know something is a good fit. They sell quality that you will not find elsewhere which results in conversational pieces that are clean and visually appealing. I am pleased with my purchases and look forward to being a continued customer.

Arkitektura-In Situ is the spot for Fritz Hansen in the city. Much like Limn, and to a smaller extent DWR, Arkitektura stages the showroom in way that can't help a modernist buy something. However, in my experience thus far, you need not spend a fortune to get a deal at Arkitektura.

I found them through a friend and was impressed by the service from the get go. My sales person (ask for Alexi - she rocks) was on point every step of the way so far.  I've even received the rare after purchase follow up e-mail - kudos!

That said, I plan on going back for some more "accessories" once my new love seat arrives. Given the experience deepa s. had below, I'll update my review in the future - for those interested.

    ::::October 2007 Update::::

Sadly...much like deepa s., I experienced a painfully sad display of customer service post-sale when my sales rep left the company before my "delivery date."

When I emailed and got no response after the supposed delivery date, I went to the showroom where in a positive twist met a rep (Gina R. thank you!) who understood the value of information. She passed me to the owner who stood up and owned the problem (Andrew you have no idea what a surprise it was). Within a week, the piece I had waited 16+ weeks for was safely in my home.

What's cool about this store is that it confers magical powers on you when you walk through the door.  Poof! You become invisible! Free to walk around, admire the furniture, wonder aloud whether the fuzzy red sofa comes in other colors, or ask your spouse if he brought a tape measure.   The sales (?) staffers are way too engrossed in whatever is happening on their computers to notice the atmospheric disturbance generated by your presence.  Suppose they don't really exist and are simply a shopper's illusion? Or maybe it's just that I don't have enough Ks in my name to interest them.

Turn your den, bedroom or living room into a rompish adult playpen with rugs from Arkitektura. Redefine what it means to have a "shag carpet."

they have wonderful, lovely things.  a showroom of coveted design for all your mid-century modern whims.  but i found the sales staff's "family-esque team" a little too clique-ish.

my wife & i visited a couple of times with lists of things we wanted & ideas we wanted to discuss.  but each time we stood around as they all chatted about club hopping & street fairs, hang-overs & boys, days off & weekends rather than assist us...hell, they didn't even *acknowledge* us.

each time we waited patiently as they laughed & cackled, oohed & awwed over their lives *outside* of work & never so much as gained the token "may i help you?" or even so much as a second glance.  when i did have the temerity to interrupt i was told outright about product lead-times & the virtual unavailability of their many items.

here's a tip: nothing kills a sale faster than telling a customer the manufacturer can't fulfill orders in a timely fashion.  guess what, you're the business end of that time-honored, old-school craftsmanship & it's your responsibility to find a way to fulfill the customers' demand.

we took our money to a competitor & found what we wanted...inventory, availability, & (most importantly) service!  which arkitektura in-situ wholly failed to deliver.

I was super excited when I found a vanity/cabinet set for my home.  It fit the style of my new bathroom perfectly.  I've always loved their furniture and often wished I could walk in and just leave with all the items that they carry!

That was until I went to have the vanity hardware installed.  My plumber recently came to install the faucet drains that were supplied.  He's stated (and showed me) that the faucet drains will not fit the type of sink sold with the vanity.  I called Arkitektura with this information and was flatly told it was not their problem.

To me when you're spending this kind of money at a high end furniture store as they appear to be, I would have at least deserved a phone call versus a one liner saying "not my problem".  The faucet drains were a tiny fraction of the cost of the overall sale...

I'm sincerely disappointed as I won't ever be able to set foot in the store again and by the looks of a few other posts, others have had similar experiences.  Beware!

The showroom is nice and the service in the showroom is not bad, but once you leave the store, they never call you back. I moved into a home that already has a closet system from Arkitektura, and I needed additional shelving and accessories.
I went there to get prices and the salesperson remembered the previous residents in our home. She said she would email us a quote  but we never got the email. We also called back, and still never got a quote.
We went in again several months later and the salesperson this time offered to make an appointment and come over to take pictures of our current shelving to see what we needed. She comes over, takes pictures, notes, and says she'll get us a quote. We also ask for additional pieces. Again, we hear nothing.
I call the store ask for her by name, and she never calls back.
That's twice that I've tried to work with this store, and we've given up. We just bought cabinetry from a cabinet maker.

Beautiful stuff, but they have no idea what they are doing.  We ordered a kitchen there two years ago, and still waiting for it to be finished.  Many many stupid mistakes in ordering, measuring, installing have lead to a total of 4 shipments (still waiting for the 4th one to see if it comes in wrong like the others).  They have offered no discount for the 2 year wait, and are impossible to reach on the phone or via email.  Lots of apologies for the delays, but absolutely no action.  Truly a disaster.  I know others with the same experience.  Please do not continue the trend.  Do not shop here.

Arkitektura seemed like the stuff of Eternal Sunshine (so beautiful you kind of want to die) but ended up being like unicorns and tooth fairies--something you really want to believe in, but which doesn't really exist in real life and which encompasses inevitable eventual disappointment.  Granted, the stuff is gorgeous.  And i mean GORGEOUS.  but in reading others' reviews of this place I am wondering if anybody actually ORDERED anything from this place.  Because we did and it was like entering Dante's ninth pit of hell.  Sales staff that won't call you back.  Endless delays.  Tons of talk about "attending the shows in Milan" that is supposed to make you feel better about the fact that you haven' t received any word about your ten gazillion dollar sofa that has been "stuck in customs" for about six years.  Suffice it to say that, over Thanksgiving (by which our furniture was supposed to have arrived), we had a group of 19 gathered around a piece of lumber fastened by duct tape onto an empty Duraflame box.  Granted, when the furniture arrived, we were happy.  But we had a bad taste in our mouths.  Karen, our sales person, really wanted to be helpful and she was better than the other people we interacted with.  But I would rather shop solely at IKEA for the rest of my life than ever go back here.  For similar (and, usually, identical) stuff at a fraction of the cost, check out http://www.europebynet....  In fact, figure out what you want at Arkitektura and then do a personalized inquiry at europebynet.  You will be happier and more flush with cash to spend on all the restaurants that get 5 stars on Yelp.
