I went to visit some friends who live in Denver and we decided to do a rafting trip through AVA. It turned out to be the highlight of my trip! We did the intermediate trip down Clear Creek with our guide Bryan, who was amazing. As we were getting ready to go, and they were giving us the safety talk and telling us water levels were up 600% (!), I started freaking out a bit, but as soon as we were on the water I knew it was going to be an unforgettable trip, and it was. It was the first time any of the people in my raft had been white water rafting, and we all had an amazing time. We even purchased the photos so now I can remember it for years to come. That is, until I return for my next trip! And I will be back, that's for sure.

The outpost we started from was in Granite, but will post my review here.

AVA is a very solid company. Process to book and get situated was very easy. We chose the Numbers (Class I-V) We had a party of 7 and were told we would all fit on one boat.

I have deducted one star since nobody explained this was the last weekend this portion of the river was running and would be extremely low flow. We subsequently had to split into two groups/boats due to these conditions.

Regardless we were determined to have fun. The bus picked us up from the outpost and took us to the drop zone. Great safety briefing (much to remember in a short period of time!)

During our very first rapid we became terribly stuck on a rock due to the low flow. We were literally on top of it for 10 minutes. The other guides were pulled over and coming back up to help us. Our guide, Sally, tried every which way to get us unstuck. We came damn near close to flipping, but eventually got off the rock safely and headed down river.

Unnerving first shoot, but we ultimately got the rhythm down. Sally was a great guide; calm, knowledgeable, assertive when necessary.

We continued for the next two hours down class III-IV rapids with huge smiles and occasional cheers.

I will be back for sure....next time during high season in June.
