On April 14, 2011, I received a letter from my automobile insurance company, GEICO, stating that they were cancelling (would not renew) insurance coverage on one of the three vehicles I had insurance on through them.  They had absolutely no legitimate reason whatsoever for their decision, but gave a vague statement about GEICO being "very conservative in its underwriting.....blah blah blah".  I have no citations, no unpaid premiums, no at fault accidents......nothing.  (The REAL reason they cancelled is because a few months ago I filed a claim for damage when I struck a deer on the roadway one evening and sustained heavy damage to my car).

After receiving this letter, I immediately filed a complaint with the Arkansas Insurance Department over their web site.  A few days later I received a pro-forma letter telling me they were "investigating" my complaint with GEICO, and that I should receive some kind of answer around May 23rd.  (In the meantime, the policy had expired on May 16th).

Well, May 23rd came and went, as did May 24th, 25th, 26th, 27th, and etc. without so much as a phone call or email from the illustrious Arkansas Insurance Department.  Today, June 8th, I receive a letter in the mail stating that the "Investigator" found that GEICO had breached no Arkansas law or commission rule or regulation in cancelling my insurance coverage.

CONCLUSION:  The Arkansas Insurance Department is yet another shining example of a government agency or bureacracy that serves no useful purpose of any kind, yet undoubtedly has a staff drawing large salaries on the taxpayer dime.  From what I can tell, this agency provides ZERO protection to the citizens of Arkansas against arbitrary, unethical and retaliatory decisions made against individual consumers by giant insurance companies like GEICO.  The insurance companies, at least GEICO, can take any actions or make any decisions they choose in Arkansas without any kind of supervision, oversight, or review by government agencies that should be in place to protect the public, yet do nothing but sit idly by while citizens are conned and taken advantage of.

The Arkansas Insurance Department should be closed, dismantled, abolished, and eliminated as a worthless entity that sucks taxpayer dollars and gives nothing useful in return.
