Oh mah goodness, nothing cured my cross-coast hangover like a slice of their pizza, which is made daily from local ingredients. Thin crust and perfect organic veggies with olive oil and cheese. Thanks for the welcome!
They also have yummy chewy cookies, pastries, baked goods, etc. in huge-normous cases along the left side of the place and seating along the right.
Closed Tuesdays. -

Oh what glorious things one can find when one decides to take the long, scenic route to a routine destination!
The path I took from Point A to Point B was not the shortest or most direct. However, it was such a beautiful day that I thought it would be nice to take a drive down Valencia and there it was ...... Arizmendi! How did I not know they had opened a location in the Mission (remind self to stop working so much and enjoy life in the City!)? I returned with haste after running my errand to pick up some lunch at one of my favorite bakeries in the city. Parking was really not an issue on a weekday as I found several spots nearby. Seeing people with foil wrapped triangles walking down the street told me that pizza was indeed a big seller here.
I ordered a slice of their pizza that day, a combo of tomatoes, kale, onions, mozz cheese and garlic oil. Delicious! Hot and fresh too. Of course, I also picked up one of my favorites, the corn cherry scone.
This space is 2x to 3x the size of the location in the Sunset. There's more space for tables, chairs and display cabinets for the scones, bread, cookies, etc. The only thing I didn't see was the bag of assorted cookies they have at the other location. Maybe it wasn't the right day? I like how they have made an effort to fit in with the vibe of the community at this location.
Excellent baked goods, and now with two locations in the City.Listed in: Craving something sweet

I don't even care what the pizza of the day is, I'm getting it. Just don't go on Tuesday because they aren't open. They will often combine ingredients I would never dare to try together on a pizza, vegetables I normally don't like, it doesn't matter -- always amazing. Slices are reasonably priced at $2.50.
Chocolate chip cookies are excellent and pretty darn big. I haven't even bothered to try the numerous other products on offer, though I don't see how anything from here wouldn't blow you away.
That it is a worker owned co-op in the Mission makes all of this that much better. -

Ugh, so disappointed.
The food is probably 3 stars but the rude service at the cashier register bumps this down to 2 stars.
We tried their pizza slice and one of the pastries. We've certainly had a lot better. We prefer Arinell's for pizza in the same area. -

Fawk!
I never viewed Arizmendi as an enemy...or as a temptress. I accompany BFF here all the time for his carby indulgence & nothing ever tickled my fancy.
We were in line on Sunday. I had no intention of buying anything...then I started reading pastry labels & ingredients & this.one.damn.cookie. is supposedly made with a bit of almond. I crumble & throw one in a bag.
Fawk!
This riccirelli (sp?) cookie is fawking bomb. Powdered sugar, crispy outside & moist, sweet almond-paste inside. It's like a marzipan but better. I ate the entire thing before we got home & it's not like it was a tiny morsel of cookie.
Welcome to the birth of a new obsession. You'll find me at Arizmeni next Sunday and at the gym Monday through Saturday to make up for it. -

I went here yesterday afternoon with a friend of mine for the first time. As I broaden my horizons as far as finding places to get good food, I am always open to trying new things. I had gotten some pizza from here about a month or two ago while I was getting a tattoo, but yesterday was the first time in which I had set foot in there. The atmosphere was very welcoming and there a lot of good options in regards to baked goods. The pizza was amazing, and I'm glad that they only have one option a day like Cheeseboard, because I would have not been able to decide.

I am so grateful you opened and we really needed a decent bakery that doesn't specialize in expensive french pastries (tartine) or mexican breads (the rest of mission's bakeries).
I'm a HUGE FAN OF WORKER CO-OPS so I choose to spend more of my hard earned cash with you on the Valencia Corridor
I like everything you've made but I got heart spots for your Coconut Macaroons (esp the choc dippped), your vegan chocolate cookies, pumpkin muffins and I want to marry one of your Velvet Cupcakes they were that delicious.
My dream would be to see those velvet cupcakes and those coconut macaroons as more regular staples rather than holiday specialities...
Finally, you are the pizza wizards..but I still love Arnell's crust more. in fact, Arnell's is the only decent crust in all of SF! Your tomato sauce is heavenly for the pizza and I think you should bottle some this summer so we can buy it up..YUMM
you also have super sweet and extra cute employees which helps when there's a small wait in line... -

I wasn't even hungry, but when the smell of garlicky pizza wafted past my nose I just had to get me some!
Because the bakery is a cooperative that helps the community it means you're actually doing good while you scoff down delicious baked goods, so everyone wins!
Everything looked great and the wheat free chocolate truffle cake sounded pretty special. I had the slice of the day, which was a goats cheese, mozzarella and beet pizza. Once it comes out of the oven they run a brush laden with basil and garlic olive oil over the pizza mmmmmm. I have never tried beetroot on a pizza, even though I live in Australia and it's pretty much our official national vegetable. The sweetness of the beets alongside the sharpness of the goats cheese was sensational. You couldn't beet it! -

Do yourself a favor and do not move near an Arizmendi. One moved near me and made the neighborhood and now serves as a salacious siren call whenever I am out (except on Tuesdays because they are closed). -

I like how Arizmendi is a worker-owned co-op, and I really wanted to like the bakery, but I found their items to be just so-so.
We had brunch at Foreign Cinema so we decided to wander around the Mission and look for some bakeries. Arizmendi popped up with some pretty solid reviews.
My fellow yelpers recommended the chocolate thing and the cheese roll, so I got both. I didn't, however, get the pizza which seems to be their top seller.
Cheese roll: I swear this was just an asiago bagel. The bread was chewy (not like a soft roll), with a hole in the middle that was filled with melted cheddar cheese. I could've picked this up at a bagel shop for $1.
Chocolate thing: This was a slightly sweet bread with dark chocolate chunks. The bread itself was pretty standard although the chocolate chunks were good.
Usually when I get home from a bakery, I can't stop stuffing my face. However, it took me a few days to finish these 2 items, which led me to give Arizmendi a 3-star A-OK. -
Review from Athena S.
This location has a very nice staff, but that is to be expected from a co-op right?
Have headed to the Sunset location for years & Valencia happens to be convenient, almost too convenient to work.
When I make my salad, sometimes I like to get their fresh olive bread for a whoppin $1.50. It's not too big, not too small either.
Pizza of the day is $2.50 a slice and usually has creative toppings. I see the A-frame pretty much everyday, only had it once. It was good not great but pizza isnt my lunch go-to. Clients swear by their pizza.
I swear by their yummy vegan muffins for $2 and God knows I'm not a vegan. -

Every time I walk over to Arizmendi, I hold my breath for fear that it's finally been featured on the Food Network or marked as a favorite of Anthony Bourdain.
I have this nightmare that one day, I'll turn the corner and the line will be out the door and wrapped around the block. Thankfully, that has yet to happen.
It's not that I don't wish Arizmendi success, but I secretly dread the day their line becomes as long as Tartine.
Must haves include:
Fresh Fruit Scone ($2.75) - The fruit and combinations change daily! My favorite is the Ginger Pear scone, but I've also enjoyed Banana Chocolate, Raspberry Apple and so many more!
Chocolate Thing ($2.50) - Think chocolate croissant but in a much less messy form.
Pizza Slice ($2.50) - Possibly the cheapest (not to mention most delicious) slice of pizza in the Mission. Be sure to check out their pizza calendar on their website for the latest updates! -

Alright Yelpers, here's the deal...
So as a few friends and I were on our mission from Castro to Pi Bar to yelp it out, we pass by Arizmendi. Now, I've heard about this place more than plenty and a couple of friends made some recommendations.
During finals last semester, one of my friends brought us pizza from here and he's all, "it's from a bakery, but it's AWESOME!" YUP! it was =)
Now my other friend kept ranting and raving about a corn cherry scone and I'm thinking, a scone with corn and cherries in it, right....BUT to my surprise, OMG...it's made with corn meal with cherries and goodness. yum yum for my tum tum.
Arizmendi you ARE the BUSINESS! -
Review from Derek w.
I had this on my S.F. must-try list for a long time before absentmindedly stumbling in on a lazy Sunday, not having planned or prepared for the mind-blowing selection of freshly baked delicacies. Thankfully my appetite had been fully activated after a long walk through the hilly neighborhood.
Arizmendi is a worker-owned cooperative with a pervasive, unpretentious communitarian vibe. Rather than choosing what I wanted, I narrowed my selections based on what I thought I MIGHT be able to live without...which wasn't much.
The daily pizza selection is the foremost crowd-pleaser, and I've dutifully tried two different offerings: artichoke and spinach, on my maiden visit, and Brussels sprouts, smoked Gouda, red chili and lemon oil on my second trip. Both pizzas were astonishingly good, fresh, with a slightly blackened bread-like (sourdoughy?) crust. Beyond taste, another key advantage for pizza-lovers is the by-the-slice option.
Beyond pizza, I can also heartily recommend the magically moist cheese rolls and the sinfully soft chocolate chip cookies. The bakery prepares an assortment of sweet and savory foccacias and flatbreads, and I decided an appropriate dessert was the pear and mixed berry foccacia, topped with an oat crumble. The bread was a little too thick to support the subtle flavor of the fruit, but it was an interesting concept and well-worth trying. Several varieties of muffins and scones, among other more unique baked curiosities, await for subsequent visits.
Seating is limited but most people are interested in carry-out or eat-on-the-run, so I haven't had trouble securing a spot. -

Yummy pizza. Just don't understand why they can't give me my slice after I pay for it. I see the pizza right behind the counter. They cut it and give it to one person waiting, then ring up more people, cut and give to one person, ring up more people, on and on...like they're trying to create a wait time. Why don't they just cut it all at one time for everyone who's waiting, then take orders. Or better yet, cut it after we order it. My friend ordered right before me, but since they cut one slice then take three orders, I had to wait 5- 10 minutes before I got my pizza slice, even though it was from the same pizza. Really ridiculous, learn from Cheeseboard.

So I've had this place bookmarked for the past year and I finally stopped in today! So glad I did. The pizza is delicious! My friend and I ordered a whole pizza for ourselves. Today's pizza of the day was: Roast Garlic and Broccalini, with Parmesan and Balsalmic Vinaigrette.
The pizza was cut into 8 slices (~$20). It was thin crust. Usually I would get pretty sick of pizza after two slices, but I ate half of the pizza =X It was that delicious (especially when it comes out hot, mmm). I thought it was the right amount of dough although it could have used a little more broccalini in my opinion. At first we were hesitant when we read the ingredients for the pizza, but all of those ingredients put together created the perfect pizza! It had the right amount of flavor from each ingredient. You could taste the ingredients individually, which was something I appreciated. I am definitely coming back to try their other pizzas and baked goodies. -

I've never met a donut I couldn't devour no matter how stale. It's nothing of which I hold any modicum of pride. It's just the way it is. But a scone somehow brings the persnickety out of me. I guess I've had too many dry ones to get excited over the prospect of another one, even if it is freshly baked. Even Samovar's are dry and need the one-two punch of the Devonshire cream and fruit jam to get it through my gullet. But Arizmendi makes the most amazingly moist scone for $2.50.
It was the Currant Scone (see photo), and a more satisfying scone would be hard to come by in this town. If you add the lure of a $2 Peanut Butter Cookie the size of a discus (see photo), then you should have all the baked goods you deserve for a week. Alas, Jamie W. and I shared those two items at nearby Dolores Park, and they were gone in ten minutes flat as a Heidi-tressed girl in gingham was selling her cookies. Seriously.
I was already familiar with Arizmendi from their longtime Lakeshore location in Oakland., so I was happy to see a new outpost near the 24th Street BART station. It's quite an inviting place, a cavernous space with wooden rack after wooden rack of freshly baked goodies from bread loaves to focaccia to pizza to brioche to all the sweeter items. Showing some restraint would be admirable under these circumstances. But now that I know I can find such tasty scones and cookies there, that will likely be impossible.
BAKED GOODS - 4 stars...really addicting stuff here starting with world-class scones
AMBIANCE - 3 stars...big place except there isn't anywhere to sit
SERVICE - 3 stars...they just ring you up once you grab what you want with the tongs
TOTAL - 4 stars...I will need to walk by quickly lest I epoxy the scones onto my butt -

All their baked goods I have tried have been delicious.
A few days ago I ordered their pizza.
Since it is a bakery, I expected the crust to be good. It exceeded my expectations the crust was the best I have had in a long time. Just the right texture, thickness, & flavor. The real surprise was how they topped it off. The feta cheese tasted homemade & fresh. The pesto sauce was flavorful without being overwhelming.
They only offer 1 flavor of pizza daily, and different locations make different flavors so call the location to ensure they have a flavor you will like.
The pesto pizza was from their Valencia St. location. The 9th Ave. location was offering a special Chinese lunar new year pizza with baby bok choy, mixed mushrooms, sesame-ginger-garlic vinaigrette. -

A friend of mine told me a while back that he loved Arizmendi's pastries more than Tartine, and I was like, "Whachoo talkin' 'bout?" Despite the annoyingly epic lines at Tartine, their baked goods certainly back up that wait times. But, lately I've been realizing that Ariz does indeed have some amazing nibbles. What tipped the scale? A chocolate cake with salted caramel icing I devoured at a friend's birthday party. I don't even like cake, but I wanted to rub that all over my body while singing "Dreamweaver." Tartine who?

First time to visit this bakery while in the Valencia.
I was looking for some pastries for snack and I happen to drop by this organic produce looking place. "hmmm, interesting...," I opined to the bread selection. they had scrumptious cookies and shortbreads as well as baguettes and bialy.
What caught my eyes was the vegan focaccia pizza. I love how colorful and well prepared they looked, so I bought some. the staff was friendly too.
As I took a bite of vegan focaccia pizza, I am quite amaze that it taste so good! the artichokes blend really well with the squash and the peppery aftertaste just leaves me wanting more!
I definitely, definitely recommend this bakery whenever you're in the Valencia or down 9th and Irving :) I wonder if they plan on opening down the financial district or SOMA area near the Embarcadero :D -

When I'm happy, I eat a lot. When I'm sad, I eat more. So basically - I'm fukd. Arizmendi feeds my happiness, cures my sadness, and will always be there for me when I have to wear my fat Mervyn's (RIP) sweatpants.
During this visit, we bought a cheese roll, a chocolate chip cookie, a sea salt & lavender shortbread cookie, a square of curry focaccia with mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes, and a slice of their pizza of the day: Purple Cherakee and Early Girl Tomatos, Sweet Corn, and Queso Fresco with Basil oil.
The sea salt and lavender cookie was muy lavendery, and you could literally see bits and pieces of the flower throughout the cookie. I thought, that's very potpourri of them. Nevertheless, the cookie was tasty. The sea salt did seem to overpower the overall taste though, in my opinion.
The cheese roll definitely has more cheese than bread. Their chocolate chip cookie is made w/dark chocolate chips, so although a tad bitter, the dough was sweet enough to offset it. The focaccia is always the perfect "take home and put it in your toaster oven" treat, and the pizza is "the best stuff on earth" per my friend. You got that, Snapple?
Seemed like we bought the whole store but only spent $11. Arizmendi keeps ur wallet fat and ur Mervyn's sweats alive. -

We live on 24th street, so we were delighted when we saw Arizmendi moving in on Valencia Street. Although I don't always love the pizza combinations, there are other times when the flavors are just so unique and delicious. I have recently become obsessed with the cinnamony and no too sweet brioche knot. I tried to make it with the Cheeseboard Collective cook book recipe but it just wasn't the same. Today, I tried the blueberry snail, which I think is based on the same recipe. It has a touch of sweet cheese and some blueberries - a tasty treat!
Oh, and you should try the chocolate sea salt cake that they keep in the fridge. It is super rich though so you should ask a friend to help you finish. Yum! -

It's nice to know that there a places for people who still eat carbs in San Francisco.
I'm a big fan of their more savory treats, like pizza and olive bread (with whole olives in it). There sweet treats are equally as good though. They have many vegan options, but sadly, only one gluten free option. I have a friend with Celiac (actually Celiac, not some chick that says she doesn't eat gluten *insert eye roll here*) so it's nice that she can come with me.
It's a little stressful the first few times you visit because it is serve yourself. You want to see what's available, but more experienced shoppers can seem impatient sometimes. Also, the service can be hit or miss sometimes ... but I don't let that inhibit my ability to enjoy the wonderful baked goods produced here.Comment from Jose M. of Arizmendi Bakery 8/7/2011

Never disappointed by their bakery case..Also have good coffee.
Chocolate chip cookies: A-mazing. Chewy, chocolaty, everything you want in a cookie and more.
Almond macaroon: Really really good, dense, chewy, moist and delicious.
Coconut macaroon: Also good, but not compared to the almond one which stole the show. They should dip this one in chocolate.
Pumpkin Muffin: Better than expected. Had this warm with butter. It is perfectly spiced with cranberries and walnuts.
Scones: On the dry side, not their best offering.
Lemon Curd: Wanted to like this but it had a weird aftertaste. O well, can't win them all.
Whole wheat cheese roll: Ok if heated. Tough dough, kind of oily.
Jalapeno Corn Cheese Bread: Good, though I am not a fan of jalapenos.
Haven't tried their pizza but people seem to love it. Not reviewing my favorite thing here because I don't want it to sell out! -

One of my most coveted rituals....Arizmendi in the morning. We've been frequenting the mission location since it's opening and since it's close to work and home, no question!
They are getting better and better at what they do, as the 9th Ave location has set a high standard for myself and others. All their goods are becoming more consistent and well, I'm hooked on my morning ritual so I don't need to justify it further. It's also lovely to see that they establish the local mission culture and have their own items that 9th and other locations dont.....they have much more vegan options which rocks!
One thing, please, do a head to head with 9th Ave's focaccia flats....Valencia needs some help there.
I'm a huge fan for coops. And establishments that foster goodness.
My bran muffin and coffee and I'm set!
I heart you Arizmendi! -

I heart Arizmendi. My family has been going to the one in Oakland forever, so when I found out one was opening down the street from my house in the city, I couldn't have been happier.
The daily pizza by the slice is always good and the fresh baked bread and pastries make me feel like I'm in Europe. Such a treat, and a welcome addition to the other bakeries in The Mission. Great prices too!
That loaf of bread may not look huge, but take it home and slice it up....for $3 you get 7-8 hefty slices of quality bread my friends! -

Misleading three stars.
I'm not yelping the bread, the granola, the cookies or the pizza. That five star yelp is here: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Today was for coffee so I could check out the new space. Coffee was fine. Venue seems bigger than the Sunset location. Everyone, from the employees to the customers, seemed happy to be there.
Left hoping there will be a third location. I want a reason to give the bread, the granola, the cookies and the pizza another round. -

I like making metaphors out of places. So if Arizmendi was a person, she would be a smokin' hot babe that bakes smokin' hot bread.
No lie, this place sells the best fresh bread and pizza mine mouth hath ever tasted. Arizmendi effortlessly combines the tradition of baked goods with the modernity of straight forward food choices. Their food is fresh, dependable, unique and most importantly, delicious. How attractive is that?
May I suggest:
- A square of focaccia (vegan) (could suffice for lunch itself)
- ANY of their scones
- ANY of their rolls but mostly the wolverine
- Sourdough baguettes
Eat your warm carb nugget on the window ledges outside like everyone else or find a bench at the park down the street. -

Excellent experience with Arizmendi - every time. The corn cherry scone is so Caribbean. Reminds me of Magdalena's tortas (of Mi Guayabera fame). The scone - chews fried, with the perfect greasiness though it's a baked treat. You bite and let the oiled corn grains scrub your tongue, look into the mark you left - and a whole dark (part of me wants to say black-ass) cherry jewels the sugar-dusted crescent. Prolly good with fried runny-yolked eggs, how I used to eat tortas.
Coffee - organic, fair trade. Nice banyo. Great ingredient list on the board as you walk in. Spanish too - learn foodstuff by foodstuff.
Before I ever went there, the photo of their people on The Guardian had me crying right on Market (and 10th).
Slept in their doorway one night.
