LOVE their cheese rolls!!!!! OMG! total orgasmic!

All their pastries/bread have been yummy! Love the idea of the co-op and people there look and act like they love being there. Wonderful service and awesome food.

I can eat ten of their cheese rolls in a roll and still crave more. Their cookies are to die for and their granola is addictive.

In fact... as I write.. I am already digging into my bag for another roll (that I had originally promised to save for my brother).  Oh well... he snooze he lose... LOL!

    Best pastries in SF period.

Love the chocolate thingy, pecan rolls, and cherry corn scones. The savory breads are also delicious. The cookies are good, but I think Specialty's cookies are better. They don't have anything fancy like tarts, so you'll have to go to Tartine or La Boulange for that. They do have a chocolate cake with a salted caramel frosting which is very good!

Tip:  They make coffee cake too, but only on the weekend. Another one of my faves!

    An everyday favorite!

    * I like the wolverines (raisin/apricot/nut roll) and the cheese rolls the best.
    * Their daily pizza is pretty good too.
    * If you're a scone fan, they have a lot of them.
    * Best of all, reasonable prices!

Out of towner here from Florida.. this place is simply delicious! One of, if not the best bakeries I've ever been to! Plus it's a co-op which makes it even better. Go support this great place! Back home we don't have many places like these, if one were to ever pop up I know I'd be a regular customer daily. The locals around here need to appreciate the awesomeness they have!

Ordered a full pizza (special of the day).  Delicious and affordable!  Cheeseboard-esque (but didn't quite reach the same peak).

The bread here is where it's all about.  Order the daily specials (pick up a menu so you know which ones to get).  Delicious.  I brought my girlfriend the chocolate raspberry sourdough, and she devoured it ;)

    4**** + 1 for being a cooperative!  Definitely worth a trip ...

Yummy bakery treats. Ran in (because parking is so fierce) to grab a few baked goodies. I've only tried the blueberry scone so far, but am enjoying the tastiness of it without the overload of sweetness. Can't wait to try the pecan roll and the carrot muffin!

I come here specifically for their pizza of the day. The crust is thin with an almost sourdough taste, while the toppings are not over the top, but bursting with flavor! Simply put, their pizza is delicious, they vary by day however.

I wish they had more variety and more drink options, but the workers are extremely pleasant and helpful.

Their baked goods are very decent, their chocolate chip cookies are interesting but pleasant, hard in texture but full of chocolate goodness! their focaccia bread is great!! Sooo good!

Arizmendi is pretty awesome.  It's a co-op, so the workers are all owners of the place.  I actually went on a tour of the "kitchen" once with a group of 3 year olds.  That was pretty cool.

It's always crowded when I walk by and it always smells delicious.  I love the corn blueberry muffin.  It's the yummiest.  I also like their mint chocolate chip cookie.  It's huge though, so don't expect to finish it all in one sitting.  Well, I can't anyway.

They're closed on Mondays, so don't bother stopping by.  Oh, and on Sundays, they also have a booth across the street at the Inner Sunset Farmers Market if you want to skip the lines.  They just have some of their baked goods, but I don't believe they have the pizzas.

Instructions for Ordering and Enjoying the BEST Slice of Pizza in SF:

    1. Follow the smell of freshly baked goods permeating in the air along 9th Avenue (between Irving/Judah).

    2. Walk into Arizmendi Bakery after 11:30 AM and before 7 PM (before 6 PM on weekends).

    3. Don't let your eyes stray you. Go past the rolls, baguettes, focaccia, pecan rolls, cookies, muffins, scones, etc. and head straight to the counter.

    4. Order a slice of "Today's Pizza" and hand over $2.50 to the cashier.

    5. Step aside while you wait for your slice.

    6. Inconspicuously wipe the drool off the corners of your mouth as you watch the pizza being sliced.

    7. When your piping hot slice of pizza is ready, take it to the ledge, and put several shakes of crushed red chili pepper flakes onto it.

    8. Eye rape your pizza (the only time "raping" is encouraged) and all the delicious oooey gooeyness.
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

    9. Take a bite and savor the hearty, crunchy thin sourdough crust and top-notch seasonal, organic ingredients with mouth-watering salty richness from the melted whole-milk mozzarella cheese.

    10. Welcome and embrace the following sensations:
*Taste buds dancing in your mouth
    *Trembling of your knees
    *Tingling in your toes
*A euphoric sensation overcoming your entire body

And that's what you call a FOODGASM, my friend.

P.S. - Keep plenty of tissue near you. You will need it.

    OTHER NOTES:
*The Cheeseboard (Berkeley) is their sister co-op

This is one of my favorite things about the Inner Sunset (9th/Irving) shopping area. Delicious breads, great vegetarian pizza slices and unusual cakes that we've used as dinner-gifts ever since we moved to the area. All very fresh and just the right level of sweet. I don't think I'm ever going to buy another bakery item from Safeway anymore.

Pity - we're moving out of San Francisco. I'll always remember the pecan-rolls after a run in the GG Park.

Craving for a slice of pizza, I (kind of) drove out of my way from the Asian side of Irving Street to the "white" side for a 3pm lunch as home was way, way in the opposite direction.

I found meter parking in the little lot across the street with 10 minutes to spare! Jackpot! Sometimes I am feeling extra cheap and look for a meter that isn't blinking red when I have a choice. I"ll even put my car in reverse if that's what it takes.

Walking into Arizmendi I saw the cutest little boy holding a chocolate chip cookie. It was a picture-perfect moment. Cute kid with a large size cookie in hand.

I handed the cashier $5 cash in exchange for two freshly baked and crispy slices of triple mushroom pizza (daily special). I gobbled a slice down in my car before the meter ran out of minutes.

BTW, I got a chocolate mint chip cookie yesterday for $2 and just finished the 2nd half two minutes ago. Word to the wise, do not drink cold water afterwards. Your stomach will rumble...LOL

This is the most delicious bakery in San Francisco. Their scones are to die for, their cookies and pasties are heavenly. Their foccacia bread items are beyond amazing. They have a different pizza every day, but I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. Only $2.50/slice too! Everything is made right there fresh the same day. Somewhat affordable and I'd be willing to pay twice as much as it costs for stuff from this scrumptious bakery. CASH only.

a tiny piece of heaven. I dearly miss living in SF and chunks of that longing include the ability to wander by Arizmendi and grab whatever incredible scone of the day they've got going.

Secondly I miss walking by and salivating at whatever the description of the pizza of the day might be . . . truffle oil? rosemary? sage? fennel? lemon thyme oil? fancy mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, feta? ... YES PLEASE TO ALL OF THE ABOVE

E.G. January 5 "roasted yukon gold potatoes, roasted garlic, white cheddar cheese, garlic oil, parsley & parmesan" ... and they're a co-op!! life doesn't get much sweeter.

GO, eat, and be very very merry.

Being a fan of The Cheeseboard, over in Berkeley, I knew that I'd automatically love Arizmendi Bakery.  Muffins, scones, shortbread, granola, cookies, and a selection of fresh bread- what's not to love?

And let's not forget about the pizza- the main reason for my last visit ($2.50/slice).  They make just one type of pizza each day and it's served starting at 11:30 a.m. The pizza is thin-crust pizza and the crust/dough is interesting because it's made of sourdough.

The day I went, the pizza featured: tomatoes, arugula, manchego cheese, garlic oil, parsley and parmesan cheese- it was delicious. You can find the pizza schedule at: http://www.arizmendiba...

The staff is helpful and they all seem to be working quickly.  There is usually a small crowd there, but everything moves along quite quickly because the baked goods are self-serve and the pizza is already made- they just grab you a slice and give you a plate.

    Notes:
-There are a few tables inside and a few tables outside too.
-Their website is useful for finding out the pizza of the day and other daily specials. http://www.arizmendiba...

I've been to Arizmendi maybe 300xs. I keep going back because they have the BEST chocolate cookies ever made. Because I LOVE their chocolate things. Because everything is flakey and lovely and beautiful. I do think their pizza is a little oily, but still yummy.

+1000 reviews is a sure sign this place is AMAZING. Delicious and sustainable products and is a part of the same co-op as the Cheeseboard in Berkeley.

// LOCATION // On 9th in Inner Sunset, conveniently right off the N Judah stop.

    // HOW TO //
+Grab some parchment paper and/or paper bags that are hanging on each of the shelves
+Peruse the baked goodies in the cases and use the parchment paper to snag your items of choice
+Bring your bagged items up to the register and tell the cashier what you grabbed so they know how much to ring you up for. They trust you :)
+Pizza: Look on the board to see what the flavor of the day is. Walk straight by the people still making their bakery selections and order your slice at the register. Pay at the register and they will either serve your slice fresh or call your name when the next pie is out of the oven.

// FOOD // I've tried a majority of the items here and they are so tasty.
+Coffee Cake: My absolute favorite item here. Huge squares of moist coffee cake with some seasonal fruit baked into the top. The cake is so soft and the brown sugar crumbl-y top is to die for. My favorite so far is the strawberry. Only served on Saturdays and Sundays!
+Chocolate chip cookies: On the pricer side, but huge chocolate chips are baked through out. When you heat it up, it becomes gooey and amazing.
+Pecan roll: A bit too sticky for my taste
+Blueberry scone: Dense, but yummy. Not too sweet either
+Mushroom and fennel focaccia: Delish but on the oily side
+Mushroom pizza: So amazing. the crust is cooked perfectly to give you a slight crunch and the whole slice has so much flavor without making you feel heavy/gross after.

*tip: Some of the stuff has been sitting in the display cases for a bit and can get a bit hard/tough/chewy. Pop everything in the microwave for about 10 seconds and they will be absolutely amazing!

I guess we came by a little too late in the day (around 3pm on a Sunday) because the shelves were pretty bare.  I was looking forward to trying their tomato & cheese bialy but they were all out.  I decided just to get a shortbread cookie for my daughter so I grabbed a paper bag, a piece of tissue, grabbed the cookie and put it in the bag.  The cookie was pretty but not awe-worthy.

However, I did see that they make pizza and it smelled really, really good.  The next time I'm back to try a bialy, I'll be sure to give their pizza a try.

I too used to wonder why a BAKERY kept popping up on my Yelp "PIZZA" search... well sh**, Sherlock!

Arizmendi Bakery's PIZZA is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!

Everything else I've had here is just "eh"... weird, right?  I come for the pizza only.  The crust is chewy with a perfect crisp at the bottom.  The toppings, no matter how simple, are balanced and flavorful.

Cash only, and the pizza is served up after 11 AM.  The bakery is small but has plenty of inside and patio seating.

I have only tried one item from Arizmendi Bakery. Before I give it five stars I need to try more of their baked goods. But right now I am a fan. I had to try Arizmendi Bakery because of all the rave review on Yelp. I am so glad I did because their Scone of the Day did not disappoint. Best part was the perfect crust that was just a little sweet. Next time I am in the neighborhood, I will try their coffee cake and maybe a slice of pizza. Also, I was surprised to find them at the Sunday Farmer's Market located in the parking lot just across the street.

What I recommend: Scone of the Day

This place gets busy, but is so yummmyyy!

I love bakeries so much.  All the baked goods here looked amazing.  They have scones, breads, muffins, cookies, rolls, coffee cake, sticky rolls, pizza, and I can't even remember what else.

I knew I wanted to come here for breakfast one day and today finally got to go and try it out.  We got one of the pizza's (soo good and they give such large pieces!), a raspberry and apple scone, and blackberry coffee cake.  I need to hit the gym hard tomorrow, but it was so worth it.

    Cash only though!

Was passing by here with a friend and decided to stop by. I was very impressed by their selection of baked goods. A nice balance of savory, sweet, morning, afternoon or anytime treats. Everything looked really fresh too! I had some of their pizza of the day and a tasty looking baked good to-go for later. Everything was amazing. Service itself was great too! Friendly and informative staff. We wanted to try out their amazing looking pizza but due to my lactose intolerance I asked if they possibly had one without cheese on it. Since they are prebaked, that was not an option. However they chose a pizza pie with the least cheese on it for us. How kind! No tummy ache later so YAY :D

Their pizza was crispy thin crusted with the perfect amount of toppings. No slipping and sliding of toppings and cheese here. The pizza dough itself had a slightly sour flavor reminiscent of sourdough bread. I liked it. It's different.

I'm definitely a fan and will be back again soon!

    I went here TWICE today.

I rolled in at around 10am to grab a cappuccino and nibbled (or more like GORGED) on their tomato focaccia. While leisurely enjoying my late breakfast, I overheard a handful of customer inquire about their pizza. The cashier politely told each patron that pizza was served at 1130. I saw on the board that a marinated mushroom and spinach pizza would be served today and judging by the quality of their focaccia and coffee, made a mental note to come by later.

430pm rolls around and even though I have already stuffed my belly full of Park Chow's lamb burger, I was still determined to try Arizmendi's pizza. (It's just down the street!)

Let me tell you, I finished that slice of mushroom spinach pizza in less than a minute and it was on a full stomach. I can only imagine what heavenly cheesy goodness can be on an empty stomach.

I can not wait to go back.

Oh, I think it should also be noted that the birds know how good the baked goods are and will snatch up any crumbs you drop!

As much as i want to give a better review, I can't seem to get something that I like here. So here's my apology first because I hate giving a low score for an eco-friendly (not mentioning local) business

I went here several times because the reviews were so good and I may not order the right thing. But I did try their scones, muffins as well as the savory stuff... something just didn't click and they taste awful for me personally. I couldn't finish those usually and ate them little by little for days just because I wouldn't want to waste the food.

An extra star for being eco-conscious business tho

I used to have my hair done at Mary Anne's and then have a snack at Arizmendi.

But ever since I have heard about the unethical way they have gotten their new table and chairs in the street (called a "parklet"), I have stopped going.

Also, the staff is often arrogant -- especially the freakishly tall guy with the silver hair!

I hear from Mary Anne that she had to fight the "parklet" at a hearing and that people were telling lies.

She and the other businesses seem very upset about this!

You can find me at Arizmendi at least 4 days a week (and only because it is closed on Mondays). The aroma of delicious baked goods tempts me from a block away. Never have I ever been disappointed with Arizmendi. Ever.

My breakfast rotation consists of the scone of the day (especially if it has blueberries in it!), the brioche knot, and the corn blueberry muffin. Fresh with actual fruits in it? WHAT A NOVELTY!

Even though the layout of the place is awkward and crowded and seems super busy, we were quick to pick our pastries and order a few slices of pizza. Our name was called maybe a minute later, and we were out the door in less than five!

Picked up an apple blackberry scone, a currant scone, a bran muffin, and two slices of margherita pizza. Delicious. The scones were moist and soft, and DEFINITELY buttery (they stained their brown bag, stamp of approval!) and the pizza was also really good.

Two scones, a muffin, two slices of pizza = $12.25.

(I didn't really like the scone too much, but probably because it wasn't sweet enough for me. I could use without the extra sugar intake, though, so it's okay.)

There're plenty of items at Arizmendi that you just can't get anywhere else, so you can be easily tempted to buy and try just about everything in the store.  I love and hate that feeling.  Love it b/c it's like being a kid standing in a baseball card shop w/ shelves of packs staring at you in the face...glorious.  Hate it b/c if you can't figure out what to buy quick, you'll be standing in a line w/ 30+ ppl waiting to pay.  A line that rivals Golden Gate Bakery in Chinatown.

The pecan roll was mighty fine (similar to a large cinammon roll w/ pecans mixed in) and the corn cherry scone wasn't far off.  Their pizzas are tasty also, but not as good as Cheeseboard in Berkeley.  Stick w/ the baked goods here; there's a huge array to choose from and all are fairly priced.  The breads are super fresh and look scrumptious as well, except they're pretty expensive (at least $7-8 a loaf).  Definitely one of the best bakeries in SF, if not the best.

It's a really cute and nice place to go.

I've been there 3 times so far. First time, I got the a scone, and well I'm not really into scones. Oh well. Have to try something else I suppose.

Next time I went, I got their pecan roll and DAMN, it's so sweet, but so amazing. It's like heaven in a bun.

I went again today to try their pizzas because I thought a review for Arizmendi wouldn't be complete with trying their pizza and it definitely reminds me of Cheeseboard. It's a really nice slice, hot and delicious!

To be honest, I can't really judge the two unless they used the same ingredients, but I'll be back to get some more pizza! YUM.

There is so much love baked in Arizmendi's big Wolverine rolls -

that I swear you can hear -  The Apology/Nessun Dorma - Luciano Pavarotti on full vibrato -

when you tear a hot one open.

Soft doughy whole wheat goodness stuffed with juicy apricots, sultanas, plump raisins and fresh walnuts.

So What's Up  - that it deserves it's very own Golden Gate Park hula-hoop ode.

    Trust

PS. Check out their seasonal Rhubarb and Strawberry pie.

Unbelievably good olive tapenade focaccia, vegan chocolate mint cookies, and organic coconut juice.

Why have I driven past this over a thousand times, not knowing one of the best pizzas is located just minutes away from me?! I've heard about this place for awhile now and finally gave it a try. BABY JESUS! The pizzas are delicious! A different pizza is made daily, and there's practically just that one choice to order off their menu. I had the artichoke, blue cheese.... somethingsomething. I don't know what in the world it was, but it is cheeeesy to the max and mighty delicious!! Enough to reel me in to try a  different pizza every day!  (If parking was not such a bitch.) I think the secret to this pizza is the foccocia with crusts crisp to the point.

Their freshly baked cookies are great too!! The variety of pastries and bread was overwhelming. Too bad it was CASH ONLY. I had to limit myself to all the greatness. Nummy numnum.

yeah honestly i dont get it.

i try to limit my intake of refined carbohydrates, and i probably haven't bought a loaf of white bread in years. so when i go to a bakery, i expect it to be be damn good.

arizmendi was not that. in short, it wasn't worth it. not worth the price, not worth waiting in line for their pizza, not worth the trouble of going to the ATM to get cash.

yes, it was not BAD. but how can any combination of flour, butter, sugar and cheese be BAD? it wasn't as good as the hype.
