Brooklyn, NY
Is it feasible that there's good pizza outside of NYC? Don't be so ignorant, you. I was pretty skeptical myself, but Arinell has a solid plain slice. Let's say...I had a few drinks prior to coming here and imagine...the pizza was piping hot, just the way I like it, and in conclusion, I ended up burning the roof of my mouth. This happened.
Albeit the facts I stated above, the sauce, cheese, bread and crunch made me feel like I was back in NYC. The establishment is small, has side counter tops with bar stool seats and is best for a quickie bite if you're hungry or drunk, or for pick up.
Another plus, it's close to Blondie's. Hayyyy. I'll be back for you.
Tip: Be careful the cap to the cracked red pepper container is screwed on all the way. If not, the end result could be a hot mess. -

Yeah dude wtf, not freaking bad.
Super thin, greasy pizza. I wouldn't come here if wanted pizza but it's a great walk-by-bite. -
Review from Larry L.
When I walked in, I had big hopes that this would satisfy my cravings for NY pizza. They had a pie that looked like NY pizza, they had sicilian and they called it a "pie."
When I got home and opened up the box, i noticed that they didn't cut the pizza into 8 slices like you would expect. Instead, I'd guess it was 16 or so slices. Not that big of a deal, but how am I going to fold the slice if the piece is too small.
I picked up the slice and the tip drooped down, just like I'd expect. This was looking good. The taste was pretty good and I had really no complaints about the slice. Until, I got to the crust. It was was very thin and not the puffy doughy crust that I had expected. so sad.
It's a good pizza and not a bad NY style pizza. But the quest continues. -

Put away those bon bons ladies and hold the leopard skin pants gay guys, because boy have I found the perfect match for all you Jake and Viennas out there.
Meet Arinell, Ari for short. It is SF after all so equal opportunity dating. Plus, he's Jewish! Exotic!!
For the Eva Mendeses (Mendeze?) and pretty much every girl, it's a thin crust (re: hits the gym aka lean and mean like Ryan Gosling) pizza that is "crazy" and "stupid" good. You'll "love" that it is an homage to the NY style that you don't have to "drive" all the way to NYC for.
Or, if you're like Snooki and are into big juiceheads and gorillas, this Mammoth cheese slice is as big as the King Kong they have climbing up a skyscraper in their logo. Two hands are required unless of course you are fist pumping from delight between bites.
It's cheap and cheesy like a bad first date. But it's also crispy and delicious so you needn't lift nary a finger to click into a dating website.
Interests? Super good pizza and walks on the beach.
Take this one home to mom already!

This is a really good New York Style pizza. I came here not expecting anything grand but let me tell you this place is really delicious. Just wanted to recommend this to anyone in the area.

Two smart ladies stumble in, all dressed in cocktail dresses, hair and makeup done, in high heels and in need of some good food. We know what's up and where to get a good slice of pizza while partying in the Mission.
We giggle, chatting it up with other customers, having a good time with the late night hungry people in line. We aren't picky - we just want some pizza. Just in luck, we arrive as a fresh hot cheese pizza comes out of the oven.
It's delicious, we devour our slices all lady like, touch up the lipstick and head out. Arinell is simply one of the best fast food pizza spots in this hood.Listed in: My Crush on Pizza

Probably my favorite slice of thin crust pizza in the city.
Mushroom slice is excellent - especially after drinks in the Mission. -

I have to say that Arinell slices are extremely inconsistent. The last two times I've stopped by for slices, they were given to me without having been heated properly, and they must have been prepared a long time ago -- the dough had a consistent that reminded me of hard styrofoam. The staff can be rude sometimes, and if you don't tip them they can be snotty about it. Sorry, but if you're rude and don't heat up the pizza properly, don't expect a tip. Pizza Zone, a couple blocks down the street, has better slices IMO, is friendlier, and is also open much later.

So fantastic greasy cheesy floppy deliciousness.
Minus a star for being so tiny and only accepting cash. -

Maybe I'm spoiled by pizza on the east coast (and no, not just NYC--you can get good cheap by the slice pizza pretty much anywhere these days) and I found this to be good but not "every other reviewer gives it 5 stars" good. That said, in a city where good pizza hole in the walls are hard to come by, Arinell is the mission's king

Thin crust pizza here really hits the spot, but you have to eat it in-house. Otherwise it gets soggy. But fresh out of the oven... I could eat it every day. In fact, I probably do.

Best place for a slice in SF hands down!!

Review from Aditi R.
I felt accomplished enough after a grueling gym session to treat myself to a pizza dinner. This place is known for it's NY style pizza. Confession: I'm not too familiar with NY style pizza. All I know is that it's thin crust, but given that I've heard so much about it, I assumed it had to be mind-blowing.
Except it wasn't. It was definitely really good (thin, crispy, not too greasy), but when a large majority of the yelp community and 7x7 magazine rates it as one of the 100 things to eat before you die in SF, I mayhaps had a bit more expectation than I experienced.
The place is tiny and the service is quirky, which is nice as an outfit serving pizza by the slice to a largely on the go crowd doesn't really need fancy digs. Not to mention that's why I could probably have two cheese pizzas at $2.75 a pop. They were quickly heated up and as I hungrily stuffed one in my face and the other one in a to go bag, I also saw that they had a few other choices (usual suspects - pepporoni, sausage, few others). The price is definitely better than many other 'gourmet' pizza joints, but this certainly doesn't cater to that crowd. Instead it serves a simple thin crust pizza, which can be enjoyed at any point.
Just don't go in with sky-high expectations and you probably won't be disappointed. I liked it, but not enough to come back unless I'm in the neighborhood and craving pizza. -

The place is a dump, but the pizza rocks! Warm, crispy, and fresh out of the oven. Best cheese slices west of NYC.

Touted as one of the best "NYC-style" pizzas in SF, I dropped by here for a slice of cheese pizza. The thin crust was definitely good, but the no frills, simple slice didn't wow me.
Yet, another entry on the 7x7 list that was good, but not "you must go out of your way to try this" good. -

"New York Style", meaning, perhaps one of the following:
"real estate is too expensive to have a place to eat"
"service with a smirk"
"rat arb"
you decide. -
Review from Sergi A.
San Francisco, CA
This is what pizza in Brooklyn tastes like. When I came in last night after Dear Mom's, I was happy. I ate the slice and I knew. This was it. This is what I had been looking for since I got to San Francisco. Service was fast. The guy serving us reminded me a little bit of Paul Rudd's character from Forgetting Sarah Marshall but with a little bit of fury. I like that too.
This place is not going to be for everyone. It's not really a sit-down joint although you can sit at the side counters and eat your slice if you want. If they delivered, that would be amazing, but they don't. I liked it because they did New York style pizza correctly. People who don't like actual New York style slices won't like this place, because that's what they make. But they do it correctly and that separates them from a lot of pretenders. And they're open late. Like, three in the morning late.
But to be clear: if they delivered, I would always order from them from now on. -
Review from Alice C.
Erm, yeah, interesting hole-in-a-wall joint. I haven't eaten as much NY pizza as I would like to so I'm not going to compare.
I've really only cared for the cheese pies. It's a big thin greasy thin slice of cheesiness, with some tomato sauce on it. The crust is pretty good too. I can usually chow the whole piece down quickly without feeling greased out though, which has always been a mystery to me.
Definitely really good if you're drunk or have been looking for some food. I can see why people rate it so highly. I'm always a bit scared of walking into the place though because it looks sketchy even for a hole-in-a-wall joint...
P.S. I'm not really sure how this got onto the 7x7 big eat list...but judging by the Yelp reviews, it sure is popular. -

San Francisco, CA
Good quality NY style pizza. Guess what this place almost matches NY prices as well (as in its cheap) instead of those trendy SF places that think a slice of pizza can go for $5.
Reasonable, and they do a great job reheating your slice!
Writing this makes me want another slice, even if it is just plain old cheese! -

If you don't like this place, chances are you've never been to the east coast for pizza. Chances are you think you know NY style pizza but have no clue. This is as close as I've had so far in SF, and the 'competitors' were amateur at best. There's a reason NY is known for pizza, and this is a taste of that style. Thank you thank you for giving me a late night slice that delivers. BTW yes it's a dive, probably rat invested and a brothel during the day.

I've been coming here since I was a little girl.
Understand that it is the CLOSEST you will get to NY pizza in the City by a long shot, possibly in the entire bay area. It is pretty damn good. Not life changing, but damn good considering you're in San Francisco.
New Yorkers won't like it, but they don't like anything. -

When i think of cheese Pizza.... I am thinking " Ewwww"
I have never been a big fan of cheese pizza but I had to come here to try their cheese slice because it is on the 7x7 100 to try in San Francisco list. Came here with two other friends and order a the cheese slice ($2.75), pizza was OK. after trying it, I am still not a fan of cheese pizza. I think I will stick with my pepperoni.
Anyways, i would have given it 3 stars because it was one of the better cheese pizza I have ever tried. However, their service is horrible. My friend ordered a slice before my other friend but he never got his pizza. When he ask the employee about his slice, he said something like you never paid for you because when a person orders, I put the number of slices in the oven. I was like wow, are you serious, we watched him paid and he was giving us so much attitude. When my friend said he paid, the employee said "If you say so" with an attitude. Come on!! Is that how you treat your customers? That ruined my night, so I am so it ruined my friend's night. It so stupid because they do not give recipes to people, so they should not complain when someone did not get the pizza and you forgot that he paid. upgrade!!!
In the end, he got his pizza but it come with a bitter taste because of the bad service... -

HALLELUJAH!! Finally a NY style slice in SF that doesn't suck the big one! This is the closest thing I've found yet to authentic east coast style 'za, and it's decently cheap to boot. Woo-hoo!

Review from Andrew C.
Perfectly servicable pizza by the slice, New York Style. Traditional slices are $2.75 and Sicilian style (bready square things) are $3. Toppings can be added for 50 cents each
The cheese is good, but the dough and sauce are only "ok." If you're going to get it, it's worth getting fresh out of the oven; it's only a few minutes wait.
It may not be authentic, but I prefer Pizza My Heart or Victor's Pizza for thin crust pizza by the slice. -
Review from Jenny L.
It comes close to NY style pizza, but it's still not the same. There is something about the elasticity of the dough and the flavor of the minerals of the water from the Catskills that make it taste not like a piece of cheeseboard. The Sicilian slices are good too, but I'll settle for a slice of NY pizza any day. You can dress up your pizza with a variety of toppings and seasonings. However, the flavor comes from the oil of the cheese balanced by the crust.
There is limited seating inside this hole in the wall shop. Service is fast and friendly even with lines. Parking is tough on the street. -

San Francisco, CA
Cheap, quick, delicious, open late. Everything you could ask for in a pizza place in the mission. The perfect stop after last call, or to take in for a bite into one of the neighboring bars. I only wish they served to-go slices on a more substantial wrapper, I always end up dripping grease all over myself.

According to several bay area magazines pizza lists and yelp, the cheese slices at Arinell is supposedly some of the best pie in the bay. This just proves to me that so called "foodies" don't know shit about the food of the common man such as pizza and burgers.
Arinell's pizza is mediocre, that's it.
Dough and Crust: Very good, i will give props on that, they have a delicious dough recipe here.
Cheese and Toppings: Decent, nothing special.
Sauce: Bland and unremarkable.
I did want to like this place because the pizza is fairly cheap, they were blasting Black Sabbath inside the store, and they have free jalepenos to spice up your slices, but the pizza is just average.
In addition I was about 7 drinks deep when I came here, and let me explain something about the relationship between alcohol and pizza (since I happen to be a genius on both topics). The more you drink, the better pizza tastes, so if it was just okay when I was rocking a buzz, then it's far from great pizza.Listed in: The Pizza List

The best NYC thin crust cheese pizza in the city. Hole in the wall, but fun to get a quick slice from the heavy metal rockers who work there.
Sausage slice is eh -- Delfina's salsiccia is much better. -

San Francisco, CA
Walk in, look at the made pizza laid out behind the viewing glass, and you think wtf.. looks like some ghetto thin ass cheap pizza. The slices aren't even even or lined up, they just eyeball it and cut it as they go.
But you have to get past that and get a slice to give it at least a fair chance. Once you do you will get to experience one of the best thin sliced pizzas in the city. The thin crust is soft but yet crispy, great taste and texture to it. The sauce is what I think really makes the pizza outstanding. It has the perfect taste of tomatoes and pepper and other spices to it, can't really explain it that well, just gotta try it . -

This is my favorite pizza place of all time. I can get a kick ass slice of cheese with jalapeños for cheap and listen to thrash at the same time. After eating at Arinell's, I've come to the conclusion that nothing goes better with pizza than thrash music, and I mean nothing, not even beer. That says a lot coming from me.
If you don't like Arinell's, I don't like you. -

To all those haters - I like this place. The pizza is thin, it's crunchy and it tastes pretty good and hits the spot when I'm in need of a late night snack in the Mission after doing some damage at the bars.
I have had many different pizzas and this is by far one of my favorite thin crust places.
Have yet to try their deep dish style, but I'm sure it's pretty good too. -

Ordered a large pizza with some toppings to go. Walked in to pick it up, wanted to cancel my order after seeing the greasy dirty looking guy behind the counter, paid for it anyway, ate it with some friends, felt a little dissapointed with it after reading so many good reviews, slightly burnt taste, dough a little too tough, finished off the pie anyway, proceeded to gossip with friends, then head out to movie, movie was let down, returned home, zonked out on bed,

I love pizza.
I have been searching for great NY style pizza in the bay for...years.
Unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed. It was good. Good enough for me to come back. But nothing to write home about.
The search continues! -

This place is really a 2.5 but yanno.. whole stars only system. ;z
So Arinell Pizza is really good for a few specific things and absolutely nothing else.
1. Drunk, high or otherwise altered state of mind munching. Now I'm not saying that I take part in any of those activities.. that's just the word on the street. So I heard. From a little bird. Or something.
2. A slice of cheese pizza when you're in a hurry and want something that is kinda sorta similar to NY pizza.. but isn't.
That's it.
Do not add toppings, do not expect them to wash their hands inbetween touching your money and your food.. go directly to cheese slice. :0 -

I remember leaving Delirium and embarking on the Golden Quest for a burrito at 1am.
But HO, when I saw the soft glow of electric sex coming off Arinell, I pointed and told my designated drunk walker WE ARE GOING HERE!
That was an excellent decision! The pizza was amazing! I was confused, because first, there was no peppers, but then I saw jalapenos, and my extra delicious pizza became even more delicious. I'd come here even if I wasn't drunk. And that says a lot. -

Went here right before watching a movie around the corner at the Roxie.
Very fast, convenient and cheap HUGE slices!
They serve a thin neapolitan and a deep dish, but I am a fan of thin crispy pizza.
It's a very small location with 2 guys working. Kinda freaked out when I saw dude handling money then went back to touching pizzas without washing his hands but then again, what can I expect outta a small place like this in the Mission. -
Review from Ching T.

Yep, pizza just doesn't need to be gentrified. Just keep it simple folks.
And that's indeed what Arinell's Pizza is....
...simple
...thin
...crispy crust
...Neopolitan style
...no fuss
...cheese pizza
that gets reheated upon order with additional toppings added, if you like, served on a wax piece of paper for cash only.
It's a pretty damn good pie
- not too cheesy
- not too saucy
- not too doughy
:)
At $2.50ish a slice, finally something affordable in SF! Divey place though with just a few grungy barstools to park your ass down to scarf down your pizza, but these are the kinds of places I love.
Oh, and don't even THINK about talking/using your cell phone while in here. Lulz, loves it even though I'm hyperventilating without my phone in my hand.
Good pizza but FUGG YOU for not letting me use my phone!
**Ha! I'm Arinell's 700th!** -

Haven't been back for a few years, but it was DELICIOUS! Thin crust, mad crazy tomato sauce, and burning hot cheese. I'm ashamed to say I folded it up like an envelope, but dang, I was gonna lose the toppings!
