Review from Jorgess M.
Merced, CA
I like this location better than the one on Howe because it's right next to my house. Hah!
I love this place because for an inexpensive place, their sushi is pretty good :-) it doesn't really have that cheap or two-days old taste to their fish. I especially like their spicy sushi --- it has the perfect amount of spiciness. Other than that, the rest of their sushi is good, especially for the price. Also, if you order a lion king, most of the times it's overcooked or that one time I came with my boyfriend, it wasn't even cooked. The rice was super raw and it was just ugh! They're never consistent when they make the lion king.
The biggest negative is the service. I absolutely despise when they give you the check and they wait for you to pay/put your card/cash on it, and if you just leave it on your table they walk by you a bajillion times because they want you to scram or something. That's pretty darn rude I think.
I still love coming here, but rude and bad servers = bad or no tip in my book!
FYI: The old asian ladies are the rudest workers here. They give you an attitude and they don't fill up your water. -

This is another one of those 50%-off-sushi-rolls-everyday places. One of the first things you notice when the rolls come out is their size. They're pretty small! However, they do taste pretty good. I really enjoy Spicy Johnny and T.N.T. rolls since they both have spicy tuna in them. The BBQ albacore wasn't that great. It's supposed to be slightly cooked, but they made it fully cooked here and it actually came out dry and hard! Their special sauce, which is probably mayo and sriracha, is decent. I ask for extra sauce and dip my sushi rolls in it.
The atmosphere inside is very modern and would appeal to the younger crowd. With other similar restaurants that offer the same deal in the Roseville area, this place is alright for the price. -
Review from Jaclyn L.
Stopped by here after my David's Bridal appointment nearby and first time trying the Spicy Johnny. It was really good and it's become my new favorite roll! It has deep fried shrimp, spicy tuna, avocado, eel, special/ unagi sauce and tobiko. It had the right amount of spiciness and special sauce.
For about 5 good sized rolls, it was about $20...awesome deal and value for Arigato's sushi! We got a couple of other rolls including the norm: Yummy Yummy roll. Just as good as the other location, if not better! The salad is really good too especially with the dressing, I gotta find out how to make that dressing for my friend, Mymy N.
The place is nice and the servers were a bit difficult to flag down when I needed extra utensils and order additional items but they were helpful and nice when we were able to get their attention and the food came out quickly. They have a bunch of appetizers, drinks, udon noodles, miso soup, and bento boxes on their menu, the same as other Sushi restaurants. It's only the rolls that are 50% off and I gotta go back and try some other items on their menu and rolls, I just hope my body don't form one when leaving this place. LOL We'll be back soon, now that my siblings are hooked to this place too! -

Went here for lunch yesterday with my grandmother. place was a little busy, and we were seated immediately. gave our order, and waited first came our edemame which was great, perfectly salted. not long after our rolls came, i got the kk special and the golden gate both are so good. my grandma got the spicy roll, and the dragon. also very good. the dragon had eel on top which was good! i was surprised i liked it!. i always get a side of the special sauce, which is a must for me. the service was good. the ambiance is always nice. and they always have 50% off rolls. so for a little under $40 two people can enjoy there night and eat enough.! definitely recommend this place to any sushi lover.

Roseville, CA
One of my favorite sushi places in the area.
The Oh Yes roll is my favorite roll here but there are many others that are amazing. Arigato, North Star, J&K, 49er w/o cheese, and orange blossom just to name a few.
The seared tuna is a delightful appetizer!
They add extra seaweed to my miso for me which is awesome.
Most of the time the service is great but sometimes it's not. -
Review from Justin M.
Everybody seems to love it here. I'm just thinking...meh. I love the half off sushi rolls that they offer here but for the same price, you can go to Blue Nami which is right down the road from here. The atmosphere at Arigato's is a sort of restaurant that is trying to be a night club at the same time. It isn't nice by any means inside. There's just a lot of flashing lights and music playing.

Review from Amy Q.
Apparently I am a fan of there deep fried rolls? I always end up with them, maybe because I'm so hungry that I just order what looks good without realizing the whole roll is deep fried. If you DO love those, I reccommend the Pink Lady ($5), the Firebird is a pass for my taste, its basically spicy tuna/avocado deep fried but the Pink Lady has yummy crab salad on top.
I usually get the Arigato Roll or Charashi. I should of known better than to venture off something new. The whole restaurant works better with the expansion and nicer staff but the wait for food was tediously annoying especially for lunch.
I only have an hour or so to munch of something, maybe I should of ordered take out so it may be on my behalf. The music is always random but its likeable to the age 20 age group. Very hip hop, ass grinding kinda music. Always makes me want to start dancing after my meal.
The only HALF OFF roll place that stays consistent in taste though. I give props to the chefs who have to handle their huge sushi list. -
Review from Kevin T.
There's no doubt that the sushi offered at this establishment is cheap. Arigatos even sports the "Half-Off" ruse that is so common in similar establishments in Sacramento. It's a shame that the cheapness extends past the price tag and into the quality of material used to construct the rolls.
I really wanted to like this place. From the interior decor to the affordable menu, there was so much potential that drew me to check Arigatos in the first place. However, despite the number of bells and whistles that an establishment sports, it's all worth squat of the food falls short.
I can get over the fact that the seafood wasn't the freshest. In fact, when you order from the "Special Maki" menu that is already an indication that a gratuitous use of sauces and tempura batter will be used to hide the quality of fish anyways.
What really got me was the blatant disregard for the shari (sushi rice). One of the rolls that I had ordered had several hard pieces of old rice that completely put me off to finishing off the rest of my order. After notifying the waitress, my order was cleared from the table but was conveniently left on the tab.
Not wanting to prolong an already painful experience, I paid for my portion of the tab and took off.
There's a reason this place is especially frequented by highschoolers...it's just a shame I chose to ignore my better judgements and find out the reason myself. -

Sorry Arigato, this review would have been 2 stars, but due to the state of constant decline over the last year I have to give only 1.
The quality of the sushi has gotten much worse and noticeably sweeter - I mean like candy sweet.
Don't let the "half off" pricing fool you - I end up spending the same here (if not more) than when I go to nice / high quality sushi restaurants.
Though, perhaps I'm not really the crowd they're trying to appeal to - seriously too. The inside looks a lot more for the college crowd and youngsters... I'm not that old either (only 30), but I've never been a fan of the "college scene." If you're wondering what "college scene," well you'll understand when you get there.
The only reason I came here this time, since I've noticed the decline in the past and stayed way, is that a good friend came back to town and invited all his friends here... I'm not going to decline that.
My recommendation. DO NOT GO HERE if you are seeking a decent quality Japanese meal. If you are purely seeking a social scene then fine, it may be ok for that, but if you still like good food I wouldn't venture beyond a bowl of miso and the seared sea steak. -
Review from Matt S.
Rule #24 of Yelp: crappy businesses tend to stay crappy all things being equal.
"U wanna get dinner?" came a text from my friend this past Friday afternoon. I cringe when I see my friends text me one letter "words" in place of the complete spelling. So I tend to think it's only fair to punish them with an intentional misspelling; "shore," I replied and as we bickered back and forth via SMS we both settled on Arigato. I figured it'd be fun to see how much has changed since I last visited 5 months ago or so.
Not fun when your experience is exactly the same as before. Service was meh and food was pretty terrible...ambiance and layout provide so much potential but seeing as Arigato serves food and not feng shui/environmental sexiness I have to rate them based on the dining experience.
The server again was seemingly a pleasant fellow, but kept trying to stealthily rush me and my friend out to get a new table seated ASAP; I'm beginning to wonder if the servers are told to do this to reduce the cycle time per table as this is an infrequent occurrence when I eat out. Dislike and it's not our fault that the restaurant only has so many tables -- I'm paying for this meal and I want to enjoy it dammit! And I would have enjoyed it if the food was halfway decent but again, Arigato flops with a skill unmatched by any other sushi restaurant I've attended to in the past. My friend's soda ran dry a couple of times and had to flag the server down; food came out relatively quickly.
I ordered the katsu-don and albacore maki. FYI -- really annoying thing is that they don't serve donburi (i.e. crap over white rice) for dinner; nah, they make you buy the equivalent Arigato Happy Meal which equals the crap, the white rice, a semi-decent salad drowning from a bit too much dressing and miso soup. Would be nice to have a choice of donburi vs. the dinner meal, but greedy owners gonna be greedy.
The miso soup was passable; I don't know why they used firm tofu bits in the soup...kinda weird and would rather have the soft texture. Huge issue with the katsu itself; the serving size is pretty generous, but that's not where the problem lies. No...it lies in the fact that it came slightly undercooked, and whoever made it used way too much flour before deep frying so it had that powdery consistency. Katsu -- more like crapsu, amirite or amirite? I couldn't make it more than halfway through the crapsu because the flavor was off-base and I just got sick of it really quickly. The crispiness was lacking in the coating and it was more like eating pork covered in bread crumbs (which didn't taste good in this instance).
And for the finale -- the albacore maki. It's literally albacore in the center, sushi rice and bundled by nori (seaweed paper). No sauces, no imitation crab or whatever...just basic sushi. And it sucked...hard. For starters, the whole roll was given to me at room temperature which if any sushi chef did this in Japan, they would commit instant seppuku. Warm fish just feels wrong in your mouth and in my opinion, the taste is changed drastically than if it was served cold. The nori was unraveling badly on two of the six pieces of sushi served and indicated sloppiness and poor quality prep/nori. After forcing myself to ingest the maki for the sake of instilling it in my mind how terrible the food is here, I really wanted my $4 back. Yep -- not even worth it at "half-price" (please stop with this gimmick and just price it at whatever it's sold at). Not like we're buying a TV during Black Friday or buying a sofa during a holiday sale.
Yeah, things don't really change and I made it clear to my friend that we were to never set foot in Arigato again (unless I have a concussion one day and forget *knocks on faux-wood*). If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to pick the best part of the experience, I'd have to (like I did last time I reviewed) highlight the service and venue itself. But a restaurant can't survive based only on service or customers feeling sexytime coming on whilst dining -- the food, of course, is that really matters. And Arigato utterly flops at making sushi, and it really isn't that conservatively priced as they try to make you think it is. 1-star forever.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Used to be a fan, that's it.. I'm done. Ate here tonight and it was just nasty.
I kept spitting out shrimp shell and tail from inside my sushi roll. Gross. We actually had to ask for wasabi, they don't pony it up automatic anymore. For 3 adults, you get a thimble-sized allocation (after asking).
Stingy with the soda refills, I sense you get one, and only if you ask.
The "half price sushi roll" thing is getting old, it's been there since about 2008. Now they might as well lower the prices in the menu.
Even at half-price, my Fair Oaks roll was still about 8 bucks, about 4-5 inches long at max. Basically 2 shrimp and some rice, no extra charge for leaving the shell on before they batter it or whatever. It was really bad.
My son likes spicy tuna, used to be some fresh cut filets on top of the roll, now it is just ground up pink stuff in a tiny roll 6 small bite pieces - mostly rice). All of us left hungry. I would have ordered more or something, but it was gross and I just didn't want anything else, or to waste the money.
We won't be back. -
Review from Anna M.
This is my favorite place to get cheap sushi in Sac. So many delicious options on the menu.
We always have to start with edamame and tempura vegetables. The sweet sauce they serve with it is amazing.
Best rolls are definitely the CSUS, lucky 7, and the galleria. Always 50% off, all the time yet still loaded up like an expensive roll. Unless you can seriously handle the spicy, don't get the Sakura!
I so badly want to give this place 5 stars, but that would mean that it was perfect, which is impossible because of the staff. They are really rude, barely check on you, and are only nice when the bill comes around. This staff is only a smidge better than the Arden location.
They've recently spruced up the place as well and have that "trendy" thing going for them.
Whatever floats your boat and keeps my sushi coming at half off! I'll take it! -

Yuck!
Let's travel back 4 months ago...this used to be decent sushi. Aside from the tacky decor and horrible music, the rolls were tasty. Plus at half off, you can' beat that. However within the past few months, the service has gone down hill, the food quality is sub-par at best, and the music...well I swear the music has gotten even worse!
On our latest visit, neither my friend nor I could finish our rolls because they were drenched in a thick, gooey sauce that was almost inedible. (Keep in mind these are the same rolls that we get on every visit) The fish tasted old, and the rolls were not rolled properly.
Needless to say, I will probably not be returning and will be on the look out for a new sushi joint. -

Bad service bad quality...... Some of waitress ladies are very rude. They make me feel like i owe it to them to bring my business. One time they made us wait for about 20-25 mins. when half of the restaurant was completely empty. We were in the hurry, so i asked to be seated at one of those open tables, waitress lady said sorry i cant... WT_?!!!? Tried both locations Arden and Roseville number of times, kept on going back thinking maybe they'll be better next time. Or was invited . Their 50% off (not really) threw me off and I thought I was getting a good deal but i would never pay $ 16-17 (regular price) for their skimpy little rolls. Even with the 50% it's way too much money for what you get. At other places you pay same $7,8,9 for a roll except you get great service and delicious food. Try Crazy sushi if you're in Arden area on Fulton.... Always great!

When I first went here, I couldn't get over how nice the place looks, but it's Roseville. If your business is not top notch, you won't survive. I wish I could remember most of what I order, but I drank too much saki. I remember sea steak and bbq albacore was bomb. Sashimi was really fresh too.

Arigatos is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Sacramento. I've wanted to check out this location for a long time. I had no idea it was so close to the Galleria.
Food: The menu is almost the same as the original Arigatos. We ordered almost the same rolls I normally would order at the other location. The sushi rolls are very consistent. My favorites are the Sexy and Crazy Horse. I also enjoy their house salad. Mm..the sesame dressing is sooo
Good!
Location: This restaurant is not as big as the other. It's also not as congested and loud. I prefer this Arigatos because it's not a place folks come to before a night out to the clubs. It's a more date friendly and a great place to chill with friends. -

Arigato is a great place to go if you want cheap sushi and cheap sake bombs. I've been to other "50% off rolls" sushi bars and they're 50% off because the rolls are half the size of what they should be. But Arigato's rolls are decently sized and they taste amazing! Great quality too.
The place is kept clean (including the bathrooms), but it can get super crowded. It's also really loud in there because of the music and people. I personally don't mind, but just a heads up for those of you looking for a quiet place to eat.
I never had a problem with service here.. They're all pretty nice.
All in all, this is one of my favorite places to eat : ) -
Review from Cayla P.

Every day they're open till 12.... So they say. One night I get off at 1030. Go home, change, call at 11 to make sure they're open until 12... Leave my house, get there by 1130. Some guy comes running out waving his hand in my face saying they closed early. Are you KIDDING me!? So rude. Not only that the service sucks 75% of the time because the waitresses are bitchy and rude. and the sushi is made horribly with cheap product. Sometimes the rolls are so big you cant even eat them and other times (most times) theyre so small that the 50% off isnt even beneficial because you need like 3 "rolls" to fill up. If they weren't open so late WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT I wouldn't eat here. .

This place was one of my favorite sushi places in the area until the staff turned crazy and started treating their guests with complete disrespect. I don't go their much anymore because of that.
Their sushi however is their saving grace. It is really good and super cheap if you order on the 50% off list which is pretty much everything! cheap sake bombs as well which makes the visit a hell of a lot more pleasant. During the day they usually play sports on the projectors and tv's above the sushi bar, and pretty decent music in the evenings which is also nice. -

Damn good sushi. Always 50% off rolls.

50% OFF ROLLS! can't beat that.. but you get what you pay for. The rolls aren't amazing but they aren't bad either. If you like special sauce and unagi sauce on your rolls, ask for extra because they give you little to none if you don't.
Service - amazing! everyone is super nice and on top of their game.
Atmosphere - very modern.. cute place to have dinner. I wish they'd turn down their loud trance music though, sometimes I feel like I'm yelling across the table.. other than that, everything is grrreat. -
Review from Julie N.
I really dont like it when you go to a japanese restaurant----and the best thing there is the fresh watermelon that is served on the side of my meal.
The chicken katsu, always my favorite, tasted more like chicken fingers.....from Safeway....that you zap in the micro. It wasn't even made with panko. There was pepper....who puts pepper in the batter when you're making katsu? DUDE. And it was a ton of chicken with one scoop of rice= um, does not equate.
My friend got a bunch of sushi....MEH.
The tempura we (intended) to split was oily, greasy and some veggies were shaped....weird. Hmm....
We left unsatisfied, still hungry, and feeling guilty that the all the food we left on the table could have probably fed a bunch of kids if we took Sally Struthers up on her offer to adopt abroad....:p
And what is up with sushi bars only taking Visa/MC? No AMEX?? I don't leave home without it!....kurushiiiiiiiiiii.........
Total bummer. -

I like that the rolls are 50% off, but that doesn't make up for the lack of personality that our server had. Our food was basically shoved down in front of our faces, and she seemed like she was going out of her way to help us.
Also, the night we went, the music was really loud, and it was more like a nightclub in there! WTF?
I ordered a roll that had two chili peppers next to it on the menu, but it wasn't that hot at all. Nor tasty.
This place is severely mediocre for me. Not a fan.Listed in: yum yums

If your in the mood for imitation sushi and sake bombs at a discounted price then this is the place to go. However when we're talking about quality not quantity that where my perception of this place changes.
Sushi: The only thing that was impressive was the size but don't be deceived. It's regular, bland and tastes like rice with seaweed dipped in soysauce but starts to taste better as the number of sake bombs are increased.
Sake Bombs: Eh. Definitely not authentic japanese style. Beer is served in a small glass that's filled almost to the top (very unimpressive) and sake in an even smaller than average teeny weeny tea cup.
After gulping down the first sake bomb I noticed the beer certainly wasn't sapporo. It was bud light and didn't compliment the sake at all. If you start taking more of these like I did, you won't notice as much considering their only $1.25 each.
My suggestion, go to Zakuro's in Lincoln. Good sushi and best sake bombs ever. You won't be disappointed. -

I like the Sacramento location better. The food at this location tastes a little different, and the workers can't even smile... We were seated right away, but after that they just ignored us.. food took a while to come out. So so experience at this Arigatos, but still love the fact that all sushi rolls are half off and that they open 7 days a week unlike most sushi restaurants.

Roseville, CA
I come here at least once a month. All rolls are 50% off which is a pretty good deal to me. Not to mention the $1.25 Saki Bombs! Once you start ordering entrees or specialty dishes, it becomes pricey.
My favorite roll there is the Lion King. It's basically a california roll that is baked with salmon on top, and teriyaki sauce. The only downside is it always comes in last and I'm too full to finish it! I also order the KK Special, TNT, 9-11 roll, and aloha roll. You can have a $40 dinner for 2!
We like to come here on game nights since they have 3 flat screens. If you go late night it has more of a club feel to it with dim lighting, loud music, but no bar.
I dig it since there aren't many inexpensive good restaurants in Roseville to grab some good sushi! -

Roseville, CA
I never thought I would have to give one star on anything, unfortunately there is a first for everything. I had been to the Arigato's on Howe and the food was not to bad for the price, so when I found out they had one in Roseville I thought I'd try it.
The first time we went I went with my husband and kids. The food was good (not great, but the price was right). The service was bearable but something we could live with.
The last time I went, I went with my mom and my kids (ages 3 and 5). It was a busy Friday night so we expected to wait a bit but we were seated rather quickly (maybe waited 5 mins). Once we were seated we waited, and waited, and waited. We watched people around us get service and people who were seated much later than us get service. We had people that worked there, work around us never stopping at our table. We asked if someone was going to help us and we kept hearing that someone will be right with us. So finally we left after HALF an HOUR!!! yes! Half an hour with a 3 and 5 year old with no service at all!
So, I guess things happen for a reason because now we've found PK Sushi in Rocklin and we love them! So thanks Arigato for sucking so bad that we found somewhere even better. -

I can say that this is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Sacramento. Rolls are 50% off and can get very busy during the weekends. Since a lot of people do come here, the staff can get very busy too and can get less attentive to your table. Last time I came, it took a while for our waitress to come back so we can order another round of sake bombs, and she took so long that we were so close to not ordering them. Luckily, a BUSSER had to take our order. Gave it four stars because I actually like the place and how they've changed their look, minus the customer service that they may consider hiring more people on busier hours.
P.S.

Went here to eat for my anniversary with the boyfriend. Alright location, it was close to the Galleria and we both ate at the Arigato on Arden but I hated the layout because all the tables felt so close together.
The Roseville one was different; the restaurant was more open which I enjoyed. The design reminded me of a club of some sort and had lights changing colors all around the edge of the ceiling.
We ordered 6 rolls and a slice of green tea cheesecake for a total of $34 I believe? All rolls are 50% off so we went a bit crazy. Cheesecake was $2.50. While waiting for rolls, there's three huge flat screens behind the bar area to look at. For some reason, John Mayer and Jack Johnson songs kept playing repeatedly the whole time we ate.
Food came out and polished off the rolls. The cheesecake came out after we were done with the rolls. I put my fork through it thinking it would be smooth to cut through. Wrong, it was like it barely thawed out 5 minutes ago. Semi-frozen green tea cheesecake? No bueno ): I had to wait a bit for it to soften up a bit. The semi-frozen cheesecake was the only damper to the dinner.
The servers are sometimes hard to understand, but are generally nice. Gave my boyfriend extra ginger when he asked. Overall pretty good dinner, the rolls were good, atmosphere was good, cheesecake not so good.
