I've been seeing Judy for about 9 years now. Wow, has it been that long? When I moved to San Francisco, I didn't have a hair dresser there for my first 3 years, because I would just see Judy when I came into Seattle, or she'd hook me up with service when she was in town.
I'm back in Seattle, with Judy again, and am more than pleased with my cut and color- as always. She's a true professional of her craft and I can just sit back in my chair and relax as it all go down.
Judy Yoon, are Aria- go see her! -

Ok. So my mane is a force to be reckoned with. Anybody who can conquer it is golden!
I made an appointment with Josh for a cut at Aria. When I arrived, he greeted me cheerfully by name... I didn't even have to "check in". Nice touch- gained some points right from the get go.
He offered me tea.... and then we began talking hair. Wow. There is no question about it- this guy knows his stuff. Not only did I get a cut.... but he even foiled and toned my hair with the bit of red that I so love. I walked out of the salon with the exact cut and color that I have been dreaming of. I appreciate Josh's ability to listen to what the customer wants and take that extra mile... even if it means that the appointment will take a little longer than anticipated. And he does it all with a smile.
This guy can work it... and for a pretty fair price. No doubt, my mane and I will be back soon! -

Being new to this town and my hairstylist being 6,000 mile away I resorted to Yelp to find a new place to manage my Scandinavian thin blond hair. Let me just say that Josh at Aria lives up to all the great reviews here on yelp.
Not only did he know his bizniz, making my blond tussles shine, he was a darling to deal with. And although I will miss my old hairstylist I am happy to say I have one less thing to figure out in what I will call my new home town.
The only reason why I'm not giving this place a golden 5 is the pricing. It's a little more then you want to spend on once hair but hey, it will hopefully be worth it. -

It took me years to find a hairstylist in Seattle and Tamara Hamry is the bomb. I've been going to her for four years. She did my wedding, she does the regular trims, she is my fashion inspiration. She tailors each cut and color to your face, your personal style and your time commitment (as in, I would love to spend an hour each day getting my hair just so, but in reality, I don't want to spend more than 15 minutes messing with it.)
She has a super fun personality -- I always walk out with a sunnier outlook! And she's a fashion inspiration. I love seeing what she's wearing every time we have an appointment. -

I've been a customer since I moved to the hill about 5 years ago and had an epiphany that Gene Juarez is kind of lame and overpriced (also my stylist got a nosebleed while coloring my hair and the assistant who had to take over royally screwed it up but that is a tale for another review).
I go to Bianca, the owner, who is great. I want to feel like my stylist is cool and hip and all that but also approachable and down to earth and not a judge-y biatch and she totally accomplishes this balance. I have curly hair and she can handle that (not all stylists can). She listens very well. As a result of her listening and her mad hair skills, my naturally frizzy-mess locks are now slightly but not TOO chemically relaxed, streaked blonde but not TOO streaked or TOO blonde, and I am rocking BANGS. All of this is a triumph considering my hair's natural texture. I finally feel somewhat at peace with my hair (it used to be perpetually hidden in a messy bun). Also she knows how to not take things too far with the chemicals so my hair doesn't fall out.
I had my hair and makeup done here for my wedding, and it turned out flawlessly. Also had the bridesmaids' hair done here, by several stylists, and none of them tried to pull that horrific, prom-y, boing boing curl, hair pyramid shit, which I see appear at weddings with horrifying frequency. All of the updos were very sleek and modern but did not upstage mine which is obviously clutch.
Sometimes they are really busy and I've had to wait a while past my appointment time on a couple occasions. That is really the only downside. Definitely recommend Aria and specifically Bianca. -

I am now a JUDY YOON groupie. A good friend of mine has been seeing Judy for several years and has always raved about her but I never took the plunge until now. I have a short hair cut that really should not be that complicated but somehow over the last 6 years not one person can give me a good consistent cut. That has now changed.
Thanks Judy! -

Tamara's where it's at! I've been seeing her for about 6 years now and she's phenomenal. She's got that fun flirty vibe and her skills are amazing. Even in a pinch I wouldn't trust anyone else with this hair.
Go see Tamara. She'll add to your A-list after just one visit. -

Haven't gotten my hairs did for about (wow) 9 months. Decided to take a friends referral and make an appt with Casey! OMG this girl is the shiiite! Seriously folks, she cut my hair dry and it was ah-maze-ing! Best haircut I've had in years. Luv love luv! Best part is that it was quick and there no was time wasted.
I'll be back for sure. -

I have known owner Bianca Brookman for over 20 years (can that be true? shit, I guess it is). She knows her stuff, she knows me, and she knows not to put a bunch of crap in my hair. I love the look of glee in her face when I let her do something more than just give me a trim. She rocks. Seriously - she is the best colorist in the free world and I have always left there feeling like a rock star, glamor-puss. Even when I was 8 months preggo.
I got my whole bridal package here and everyone looked GREAT. I went in a couple of days before to get some waxing done and I have to say that Pegi is a goddess (only a little ribbing for being a consummate plucker ). It's also nice the way she says, "Pretty Lady!" in answer to your screams, reminding you why you have subjected yourself to such pain.
While Aria ain't cheap, it's not outrageous either and who really wants to cheap out on something as important as ones own self? -

My neglected nether region was in dire need of a good Brazilian. Unfortunately, the girl I typically go to hurt her back, so I had to find a new place. This was like finding a new boyfriend or something, because having your girlie bits investigated by a stranger is not ultimately comfortable at first.
I was attracted to Aria because it's in a good location- easy to find and relatively easy to find parking. It's also one of the less expensive salons/ spas in Seattle to get a full Brazilian. I plugged the meter with an hour and fifteen minutes worth of money and headed in.
The salon is bright, airy and clean. Cool art hangs on the walls and the floor to ceiling windows let the sunshine in. I was greeted by Rebekah, who would be doing my Brazilian. She's disarming and cute, tattooed and cool and instantly I felt a little relieved. She took me upstairs and told me to "go ahead and take everything off from the waist down while I get everything ready".
This was a little weird. Typically whoever is doing your stuff leaves the room and has you undress. There's something kind of ceremonial about undressing in front of someone, but I guess it made it seem like "hanging with a friend" rather than paying to have a procedure done.
On to the waxing: HO LEE SHIT. Rebekah is fast and furious. She's not messing around, folks. There was no "Now, take a deep breath, and...exhale. Very good." It was like this "So, you have any plans for the weekend- RIP." She gets every little hair. She was fast, but very meticulous. She also had me flip around on my tummy and made sure to get every little tiny hair back there as well. The lights in the room were brighter which made me feel a wee bit mortified, but it enabled Rebekah to get all my shizz-nit.
I was out of there in 20 minutes. I didn't even realize how fast it was until I went back to my car and saw all of the time left on the meter.
It may be less like a spa (no new age music, no dim lighting, no herbal teas) but if I can get this uncomfortable job done in less time and for less money, sign me up. I'll definitely be back next month! -

Pegi sculpted and snipped my eyebrows into greatness. She has great bedside demeanor: chatting on the way in, making recommendations before waxing, and using a gentle touch and quiet calm to make the experience note-worthy. She was fast and pleasent to work with.
What Aria doesn't tell you is that Pegi works as a contractor and Rebekah is an employee. Therefore, Rebekah's cost is $18 (as listed on their pricing guide) while Pegi's is $20. The price was worth my pretty brows, though, and I'll be going back for my first bikini wax this summer. (Yikes!)
One last note: credit cards are accepted, but Pegi prefers cash or check. -

People complain about the cost of salons, but at Aria each $120 cut and color also came with about three hours of therapy. Given that therapists charge $100 per hour, and I came out both feeling saner *and* looking good, it seems like a bargain to me.
My favorite stylist, Janeiro, was full of insights about relationships, book suggestions and cooking tips as well as, you know, hair advice. My hair hasn't looked as good ever before, partly because she was so meticulous. One Saturday my appointment was at 3:00 and I was late for a 7:00 date. When she went on maternity leave, she left me in Tamara's almost-as-awesome hands.
I don't go to Aria anymore 'cause we bought a house and want to have a kid and "frugal" is the name of the game (and as far as the therapy part, I guess I'll just bury my anger or read self-help books). I haven't been back since Tamara got my hair all perfect for my wedding over a year ago. But oh, I miss it. -

GO SEE JUDY YOON!
I was a regular of judy's at a former salon, and now I've followed her over to Aria. What started as a flirtatious occasional date has turned into a full blown love affair. There was a bang trim here, and touch up there, and now she's my official colorist and stylist. Not only does she do my hair, but she's in the family...she does the best friend, the boyfriend, the brother, and the mother now. ha!
I've seen her fix the irreparable, transform the wall flowers, and beautify the surly, and I'll keep recommending her for all hair types and peoples.
She has this hilarious sense of humor and a 6th sense about her clients-an honesty-that I just so treasure from a stylist. Not only that, when she recommends a product, she means it very well. It's not just a desperate attempt to up sell.
This lady will take care of you like yo mama! -
Review from Amy K.
Have been going to Pegi for years for brow and bikini waxes and this girl is the best!! Bikini waxes or Brazilians are not my fave way to spend 10-20 minutes, but Pegi makes it as painless as possible, chatting about life, restaurants, books, trips, etc.... My brows always look fabulous, so I am willing to spend the $20 and if you were lucky enough to see my bikini area...you would think that looked great too!
I have never had an issue finding parking for my daytime appointments. Just make sure you bring cash or a check for Pegi, as that's what she prefers! -

For waxing I am not simple...corse, dark hair and I always get waxed the second I can - when it's hardly long enough. Alicia obviously knew what she was doing -and worked meticulously in getting the strays. I liked her better than Wax On or Salon Dewi. She also suggested affordable ways to sway off the ingrown hairs. Much appreciated!
Bianca was awesome! I had a bad haircut (at a different salon) months ago..so I was worried I would have another. I brought a few pictures to show the look I was going for - and Bianca totally got it ! Bianca was down to earth and super sweet. She gave me tips on a good hair color, is a great conversationalist and even gave me a neighbor discount ( I live and work on the hill).
yeah Aria salon! You're the best! -

Josh is great!
After trying several places in Capitol Hill, I keep coming back to Josh. If you want a faux hawk or a hipster mullet, go to Rudy's. If you want to look great visit Josh. He cares about giving you a great haircut. Worth every penny! -

I started having Judy Yoon do my hair a couple months ago and have only received about a MILLION compliments on it since then. Seriously. She rocks the Betty Page bangs with the clippers. And last visit I had some black low-lights put in my dark burgundy hair and they look great!
Love the location, the salon is always clean and everyone has been super nice to me every time I go. -

Went to Aria for the first time and will forever go back! Josh gave me the best overall hair experience that I have had in years. He was full of tips and advice on how to style my hair, gave me a fabulous blow dry and, of course, an amazing cut. I'm so happy to have found him! Plus, he's so sweet and chatty without being forced. I'm fairly new to Seattle and Josh was full of great weekend ideas. Overall, an excellent experience!
The salon itself if clean and bright. I love the displays of local artwork! -

She is BRILLIANT and I WORSHIP HER. She is incredibly talented, I always feel so pampered and comfortable and I trust her entirely! Not to mention she is adorable, funny, sweet, and extremely kind! I always look and feel amazing after a visit to the salon!! I am ALWAYS overjoyed with my haircuts!
I am a follower for LIFE. I bow down before her. I LOVE JUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

I am so glad that Casey is working at Aria. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find her after I heard she left Rudy's - what a relief that she just moved up the hill to Aria. I have been getting my hair cut and sometimes colored by Casey for the last two years. She always knows exactly what I'm looking for and is a really great communicator. Casey even made me some extensions for a special occasion! I couldn't recommend her more - and Aria is a lovely salon! Very pretty inside and close to everything.

The only good thing about this place is the atmosphere. It's very calming and it needs to be so that when you get something done to your hair there you can freak out in peace when they are done.
I work in the neighborhood and went in and asked for someone that had experience with color. They set me up with Kate. As it turns out, Kate was new to color. The owner Bianca had to come over several times for hushed consultations on what to do next. She also cut my hair in a method that is meant for people with straight hair. I have curly hair. I left with roots the color of Ronald McDonald and my new hairdresser tells me it will take 6-8 months to grow out the 'horrible' haircut Kate gave me. I left 5 - count em' - five messages for Kate to call me about my hair so she could tone down the Ronald Mcdonald roots. She never called back and the last time I talked to them, Bianca herself said she would have Kate call me. She never did.
NOT worth the $140+ I paid. In fact, they should be paying ME Kate did such a fantastic job of screwing up both the color and cut of my hair.
You are better off at Supercuts. Seriousssssssly.Comment from Bianca B. of Aria Salon & Spa 10/18/2009

It's creepy (and bad business) when an owner stalks you and writes passive aggressive responses to your review a year and a half after you write it.
Of course I didn't remove the review: because it's true. All the harassing calls and emails in the world won't change that.
Avoid this place like the plague... Next thing you know Bianca will be breaking into my house to force me to remove this Yelp review by gunpoint.

Ditto the positive comments on Rebekah for brazilians. I came here after a less than positive experience at Wax On. I still prefer the hard wax brazilians I got from Cleise in Chicago (if you're ever there, I highly recommend her salon). Rebekah uses hot wax, as does Wax On, but she's more detail-oriented and takes more care than Wax On did. It hurt more than hard wax, but Rebekah's friendly enough that she'll converse with you & take your mind off the pain a bit.

I lagged in writing this review, but after getting a 5 star experience elsewhere, I had to tell why I did not care for Aria. First off, they are in a good location, and everyone is nice. Now for the rest. They are strict users of Redken, and some other mediocre brand, Basically, I wanted very brght red hair, and Janiero gave me medium burgindy, maybe bright for someone, but NOT what I asked for. In beetween the 3 hour $300 visit, she tried to sell me on multiple products from the salon, as well as some BS perfume MLM thing she is involved in. All that said, she is a talented colorist, but Id recocomend her if your going to touch up your grey or something, not for a full style change She wants to do what she wants to your hair, not what you want.

Finally a cool neighborhood salon that's both conveniently located and fabulous! After being stuck sick at home for several days, I called Aria to get a haircut before going back to work. They had a spot for me with someone named Amber and let me tell you, I think we clicked right away! She did an awesome job on my hair; it was exactly what I wanted and I enjoyed hanging out with her for that time. I have already booked my next appointment because this is my new salon!

I have only been here for Brazilian's with Peggy and she is awesome! It's really hard to find someone good and I came here after reading a review on http://seattletimes.org. I always make a point to go see Peggy anytime I am in town. Prices are very reasonable (I am used to paying 80 bucks in the Bay) and I am a Peggy follower ...

The hairdressers aren't bad but I don't understand how this is always one of the top rated salons. They aren't bad but they aren't GREAT and for what they charge, I should come out of there feeling awesome when I spend $$ every month. After going there for a year, I got tired of my self-absorbed hairdresser and went to zero-zero (a bigger mistake).

In 2001 I had an experience so bad that I still feel it's worth sharing. I have dark brown hair, and had hoped to go light blond. Nearly 4 hours later, some parts of my hair were orange, some were yellow, and others the white color I'd hoped for. It looked awful... I could have done a better job buying a manic panic bleach kit for $10 and doing it in the bathroom myself. I explained that I was very dissatisfied and didn't want to leave with orange hair. The stylist said that I could return tomorrow and she'd bleach it again, but she was tired and it was closing time. They charged me $200 for the privilege of a burned, painful head and hair that looked like crap. I didn't attend a salon for several years after that experience, and returned to doing all my bleaching/dying myself.

Lately I've guiltily been cheating on Derby by going to Aria, but only because it's close to where I work. The salon is very nice--its location in an old, airy corner building gives off an unconventional (in a cool way) vibe and the rotating art is always pretty cool. I've had Josh as my stylist and he's pretty super--he made some haircut recommendations that have led to numerous compliments.

I went here recently for cut and color, and let me say, I miss my old hairdresser. I ended up really liking my hair color, but I didn't leave feeling fabulous - I know that's a little cheesy, but I felt like my stylist rushed and didn't take as much time for the price I paid. At the end of the day, I'll probably go back, but not with as much enthusiasm.

This salon has been rated one of the top places in the country by several magazines, but I ended up going here with my boss one day, and let me tell you I was not impressed. The visuals were stimulating, but the stylist here charged more than they were worth, and half of the 'work' was walking around someone's hair 'studying' it, and saying "hmm.." - I could have seen a therapist for cheaper!

I haven't been to Aria for years, since I moved from Seattle in 2005 to San Francisco. Mostly, I'd like to defend Bianca against the 'attack review' by Richard C.
I started going to Bianca back when she worked at Avanti on Western Avenue. I always walked out looking great and feeling great, and was always given a 'maintenance' trim in between haircuts... the price was always fair, the haircuts great and conversation all-star!
Now I've moved to San Francisco, and have been here 5 years and have not yet found a stylist who can compare.
San Francisco would be a better place if Bianca opened an Aria here. -
Review from Winona R.
So, I'll come right out and admit to being vain about my hair. It's my thing, I love it, and I am picky--to say the least--about who is allowed to put scissors to it. Casey, who now works at the beautiful, peaceful Aria salon, has been cutting my hair for over 2 years now, and I couldn't recommend her highly enough. She recently made the switch from another salon and I went right along with her. The space itself is great--the employees are all friendly and welcoming and quick to make sure someone has helped you, making appointments is a breeze, and it's close to Online coffee co if you are early and need a coffee before you get your hurr did. But, for me, the main draw is truly Casey. If you want to get a haircut that will regularly draw compliments, go to her. I'm not kidding. People constantly ask me who cuts my hair (and I happily tell them), and I have NEVER been disappointed by her. She is just as much of a perfectionist about my hair as I am, and really cares about giving you an awesome haircut. Several of my friends have had their hair cut/colored/styled by her and they have all raved about her to me after the fact--basically, she is awesome, and if you want awesome hair... you should probably get your hair cut at Aria salon by Casey--or, as my mom likes to call her "the one who gives you that foxy cleopatra hair". But... save me some appointments, please.
