Came here last friday with my best friend and her girlfriend. Right smack in the middle of weho.
I've had better sushi but it wasn't bad at all. It was extremely convenient since my friends apartment is down the street.
I ordered the "house salad and sushi special" which was $15. I was expecting the salad to be like whatever but it was HUGE! like for two hungry people. Miso soup, your choice of one of 3 sushi rolls (I picked spicy tuna), and 3 pieces of sushi. shrimp, tuna and salmon. If you want to replace one of them, theres an extra charge, so ask first.
I tried two other rolls, which were very yummy.
overall experience and service was excellent.
Theres also a nice little outdoor area, very comfy. -

Went back to Ari-ya last night!!! Had another delicious meal.
Before I get to what we had, Ari-ya sells a combo special for $15 which includes a huge house salad (I saw it on someone else's table), a spicy tuna roll, three pieces of sushi, and miso soup. That is an amazing deal. Forget those crappy deals you get elsewhere. Ari-ya has really high quality fish.
Shishito Peppers ($5) - grilled peppers with a hint of saltiness. Super good and generous portions! Some of the peppers can be quite spicy, so if you like spicy food, this would be perfect for you. However, some of the peppers are as mild as a bell pepper, so I'd still recommend this dish to people who don't like spicy stuff!
Ariya Roll ($13) - albacore, yellow tail and salmon wrapped up with avocado, asparagus, and pickled carrot. See my photo. It's beautiful! This one tastes a lot like sashimi. The fish to rice ratio is quite high.
Philadelphia roll ($7) - Ummm. Yeah. This one is still our fav. Amazing, big chunks of salmon rolled up with cream cheese and asparagus. Delicious.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Food isn't very fresh and the rolls aren't very good, but it's ok.
Their albacore salad was no bueno. Ask for the dressing on the side. -

This used to be called Murakami, my favorite sushi resturant on the planet outside of Japan. Its still up there with the same menu. The two most delicious things in the world are the Oh My God Rolls and the Murakami Rolls. You'll be on cloud nine.

I live right up the street from Ari-Ya. I was craving sushi after a workout. I really didn't feel like ordering delivery, so instead I found the nearest place and tried it out. to say the least I was pleasantly surprised. The place is not huge, but I ordered, it was ready in 10 minutes and it was really delicious! Great place and I will going back again!

My husband and I are are regulars at Ari-Ya. We have been going since it opened. We absolutely LOVE the food here! They make the most amazing roll called OMG Roll. Truly worthy of it's name! The owner, Steve and the staff are all incredibly friendly and efficient. It's not really fancy inside, but it does have a pretty little patio that is great year round. It's a casual neighborhood place with exceptional quality. I would recommend it to anyone looking for delicious sashimi or sushi!

really good and not expensive at all. We came and the place was empty, so i was a little unsure. But we sat, ate, and enjoyed! The place filled up by the time we were leaving, which leads me to believe it gets a late-night crowd. The salad and soup combo for $15 is insane! You get a HUGE salad, miso soup, a sushi roll and 3 pieces of sashimi. I would definitely go back.

Can you dig it? Yes, yes I can.
I've been here several times but hadn't been in about a year until a few weeks ago. I actually had to pick a Japanese restaurant for my straight from Japan house guests. One of our friends, named Ono, ordered the Ono and gave it his nod of approval.
We had far too many things for me to list, but everything was pretty good. The service was friendly and attentive.
We sat at the bar and tasted and tasted and tasted. Not bad Ari-ya.
I will not let a year pass again.
Though I will admit there is something about this place I can't really pinpoint but is missing or a little irksome. Which is why I usually go across the street to Ajisai. But I like to mix it up. I think it's just something as trite as the layout. So pay no mind to my architecture issues. -

Yum fresh fish and great portions. Stuffed from $20 worth of quality sushi. This place is super close to my work and I can see myself coming here after work a lot. the staff was awesome and I never had to ask for more hot green tea.

Surprised they have an average of 4 stars! Probably the worst sushi I've had in years. Where to start? Not only was the spicy tuna not spicy, the wasabi wasn't even tangy. The salmon was rubbery. In fact, the only highlights were: seaweed salad, aji nigiri, and cold Sapporo.
I should have taken the lack of customers as a bad sign. And the fact that the chef gave me a blank look and a shrug when I asked what fish was fresh.
I did like the old Elvis music though. -

One of the most fresh and tasty sushi i've ever tasted!
All of their sushi taste sooooo good, especially their albacore!
Salads and Baby Lobster Roll was really delicious too.
I would say it's a perfect place if you're looking for a japanese food and a cold beer.
Definitely one of my favorite spot this area! -

I happened to be around the area and needed to satisfy my sushi cravings. As I entered the restaurant, the staff warmly welcomed me as I sat at the sushi bar. I tried their black cod lunch special along with baked blue crab hand roll and several orders of sushi a la carte.
All the sushi was fresh and i was surprised by their generous portion of the fish.
The baked crab hand roll was to die for and black cod was very flavorful as well.
From now on this will be my spot whenever I'm in the area. Fish was fresh and the price was very reasonable. Thanks to steve, jason and the other staffs i had a great lunch today. -

What happens when you raise prices, shrink portion sizes, and serve lower-quality fish than you did before?
You lose customers.
The higher prices nearly scared us off last time, but b/c we had liked it so much in the past we gave them another chance and returned last night... only to be served sushi that tasted bland and mushy, and most definitely did not render us anything remotely resembling full.Listed in: I said, "No, no, no." How anyone would give this place less than 5 stars is beyond me. The sushi is the freshest you can get in Los Angeles. Chefs are top notch. Rolls are generous. And the prices are VERY fair. We go here at least a couple of Fridays each month with friends. Don't miss the Shishito Peppers for an appetizer with beer!

From the outside, Ari-Ya's location inside a little strip mall doesn't scream great sushi, but that's why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
The rolls were fresh, big, and creative, and the "baby lobster" dish was awesome! Ari-Ya was an overall good time. Probs coming back here the next time I have a hankering for sush. -

Excellent, fresh and flavorful sushi!
Sushi chefs Young and Steve took care of us like nobody's business.
They listened to our tastes and made the BEST recommendations.
Try the Murakami (cucumber wrapped sushi-no rice). Also the Ari-Ya roll. Both Excellent!
All portions were generous and super fresh.
The Shishito peppers were amazing, and we were told by another patron that they are best in SoCal.
We loved this place so much, we came here twice while staying in WeHo.
We highly recommend it.

Review from Sean B.
I've walked by this place many times, and today finally on a day off I decided to pop in and try one of the lunch specials before I worked out.
First impression; it's nice. Understated. Very traditional sushi bar decor, the artwork a little more fun than some. Fairly classy. Sushi chefs a bit older and dressed in white chef wardrobe. Everything seems fine.
The waiter was cute and had a nice smile. Brought me menus straight away. I knew what I wanted to ordered right then. Lunch special w/ beef teriyaki (per his recommendation) and spicy tuna rolls. Comes w/ miso soup and tempura. Good times.
The miso soup came out and it was both hot and delicious. One of the better ones I've had. They lost a star, however, because I waited about 15 minutes between the soup and the rest of my lunch. A bit slow, considering there were only about three other tables here. Took a while. Not that I was in a hurry, but I think that at lunchtime things should move quickly. Had I been on a lunch break from work, I'd have been hurrying to get back in time, for sure.
Everything was delicious and presented nicely. The beef teriyaki was high quality steak, would have been quite respectable even without the sauce. The tempura was hot and crispy, with great flavor. The salad was even fresh and the dressing tasty.
Would have been a five-star lunch if it wasn't quite so slow... -

Ari-Ya is a great little sushi restaurant in W. Hollywood.
Yes, the parking situation is bad but there is a very teeny tiny parking lot right behind the restaurant that you may get lucky in finding parking otherwise it is street parking... but as for the actual restaurant...it is a great place to have wonderful sushi and enjoy great conversation w/ whoever you are having dinner with!
I highly reccomend any of the combination dinners..they come w/ a HUGE house salad, Miso Soup..then the Entree.
I just celebrated a birthday here with10 people. We sat in the patio area (highly reccomended).
It was a great night and when they opened the blinds, the slight breeze made everything even more enjoyable!
They have a nice menu of items to choose from including a vegetarian section......
Plus the servers were very VERY attentive....they did a great job!
This place is nice, quiet, cozy, NOT overpriced!
Check it out!

My new favorite Sushi spot around Weho area. The chefs are very generous with their portions. Usually I would ask the chef what's fresh for the day, and he will recommend me a few options. I like their Red Snapper - you can ask them to put salt and lemon on instead of ponzu sauce (which I love regardless). Their Uni is so sweet and very tasty. I'm not a big fan of anything other than traditional sushi style, but their tuna on crispy rice is SO good. Over all the quality of the fish is just as good as some of my other favorite sushi joints - Isshin, Komasa, and Sakura.
Yum yum yum.
Atmosphere is good too - you can sit in the patio for a more romantic feel, or by the sushi bar which is AWESOME cause you can get the chef's recommendation... Next time im drinking sake with him! LOL
p.s. Miley Cyrus was dining next to me LOL. -

I love trying new places, but I always come back to Ari-Ya. I've been ordering the salmon carpaccio for years. Since it was Murakami's. Still on the menu, still the same. I love the pink peppercorns, they add a bright, florally spice to the salmon. The shishito peppers are a must (sometimes I get 2 orders) and any roll I've ever had has been pretty satisfying. My most recent fav is the OMG roll. I wish the spicy tuna was spicier. The sashimi & nigiri always tastes fresh. Hamachi is my favorite. The albacore jungle is advertised in the bathroom. It's good too, but I usually forget about unless I'm using the loo. The prices are pretty fair and food is consistently good.

The best casual sushi restaurant I have been to in my area. Finally! I have really been searching around, I knew LA had some true gems out there, I've just been missing more than hitting. This is now my #1 lunch spot, even though I still love Niko Niko too, but Ari-Ya is a step above, and the prices are a step above too but that's ok. The inside seating is not the greatest, but they have some nice tables on the covered patio. I haven't had a problem yet getting parking on the nearby side street.
The menu isn't huge, but they have enough choices to make it fun deciding. Their tuna is so fresh, among the freshest tuna I've had. The baby lobster roll is a favorite of many. Overall an excellent choice if you care about freshness and quality. -
Review from Susy C.
The sushi was a-ok. Service was a tad off that night. I don't know if it was a language barrier issue thing or what not. I do wish their servers a little bit more knowledgeable. I requested 3 orders of tobiko w/ quail egg nigiri. TOBIKO okay.
What I got?
MASAGO w/ quail egg. Masago is the cheaper one, not to mention noticeably mucchh small than tobiko. It's not like they don't offer tobiko. As a matter of fact, their white board above the sushi bar said that one of the specials was tobiko.. *sigh* But I digress..
At least the salmon was very fresh. The sake nigiri was wonderful - perfect amount of fleshy fatty goodness. -

This place is awesome. The portions are huge and not overpriced. The atmosphere is cozy.
When I asked about them preparing a dish without soy sauce, they were very friendly and helpful about doing so. I had a great experience here and will definitely make this my local WeHo sushi place!
It isn't a scene at all, so if you're looking for that try Koi or Katsuya or a similar place. -

It took us about four tries to find parking to eat at this spot. Honestly, I don't know if it was worth the evil parking situation, but my sushi was tasty and the service was smooth and fast. When we got there, the place was pretty empty. But, as the meal progressed, it filled up.
Our meal was about 40.00 and we were filled up nicely! -

You know what's annoying? When you can SEE your omg rolls sitting 10 feet from you. Right THERE. And after 10 minutes no one brings then to you. A fact that you bring to the fact of the sushi chef. Who won't let you just take your OWN rolls. Then, you literally have to stop someone who's not your waiter and, when they say "do you need anything else?" you have to point out, again, you'd like the rolls - that are yours - 10 feet away and in your sight line.
Now the rolls were good. The miso was fine. Even the ambiance, minus te heavy traffic, was good for weho.
But if you're going to have your waiters take impromptu breaks, NOT come back and NOT going to bring me my food...well then at least hide it from me so I don't KNOW how close I am to what I want to eat. Cause that's just hunger torture. -

I was craving seaweed. I needed sushi. I'm not from around these parts so I looked up the closest, moderately reviewed and priced sushi place in the neighborhood. Ariya showed up. Packed up the friends and we drove over for some late night Japanese cuisine.
Ariya was a traditional looking sushi restaurant. Nothing stunning, quaint, open, and comfortable. We sat down in what seemed like a patio, but there was plastic covering over the windows. Different. For starters we went with edamame, veggie tempura, kappa rolls, and avocado and sweet potato rolls. Again, not technically sushi because it isn't fish, but no big deal.
The veggie tempura consisted of pumpkin, squash, and asparagus. The asparagus was the best part. The serving of edamame we received was cool for the price. Can't complain. The kappa rolls were pretty basic and delicious, as were the other veggie rolls.
Ariya made for a good night out. Our server was a little weird and had trouble answering a few questions. Would I run over the text time I'm having a sushi craving? Probably not, but it was well priced and enjoyable. -

Prices are very reasonable, well for lunch at least, not sure about dinner. Lunch combos are in the $9 - 16 range and it comes with a good-sized salad, miso soup, rice, spicy tuna/california roll, plus your entree. The teriyaki's are good, but the grilled fish is my favorite. Service is friendly and attentive.
BTW the city and zip above is wrong. It should be West Hollywood, 90069. -
Review from Ling H.
I had high hopes for this sushi place.
Ok, we're in Hollywood, but $13 for 5 salmon sashimi slices is a little pricey in my book. AND, the salmon sashimi wasn't even that good. I've had fresher and more buttery tasting salmon. Approx. $5 for sushi is pretty normal though and the halibut was pretty good.
The crispy spicy tuna was interesting, but I expected a deep fried spicy tuna roll. Instead it was spicy tuna on top of a deep fried potato croquet, which was a little too chewy...
The restaurant though is actually cozy and there's even an outdoor seating area shaded by a fence with plants. -

Los Angeles, CA
One of my favorite sushi joints in all of LA! The patio is the place to sit for sure, but it's really more about the food. The fish is super fresh. I've been about a couple dozen times and never had bad fish (and I'm super picky with raw fish). I highly recommend the cosmo roll, any yellowtail specialty, and the shishito peppers!

Review from Dan C.
Los Angeles, CA
Although I have been to sushi joints that are better (for example, Morimoto), I have also paid as much as 5 times more for a night at a sushi restaurant. So the 4 stars is considering the quality as well as the price. I'm writing this review after coming home stuffed and paying only $35 + tip. At that price, this place is rockin.
First, every time I go to Ari-ya, I am a little overwhelmed by how big everything is (and I seem to forget after each visit, and then overorder the next time). The sashimi orders are 6 pieces rather than 3, and the pieces are HUGE. The rolls are enormous, too. But, regardless of price, the quality of the fish is great. I have certainly had questionable fish at far more expensive establishments. The sheer volume of the salmon sashimi gives ample opportunity to find faults, and tonight, there we no faults to be found. The salmon was like butter.
The only thing that wasn't perfect tonight was the yellowtail carpaccio + jalapeno appetizer. The yellowtail was actually too thick to be considered carpaccio in my book (again, everything is huge) and I would have preferred slices of fresh jalapeno. Instead, there was a green sauce on the yellowtail which was not really very spicy at all.
There isn't too much else to say. I haven't had any real "misses" here yet. And yes, there are $100-150/person experiences to be had that top Ari-ya. But for the price, it can't be beat. -
Review from Kyler C.
West Hollywood, CA
I ate here with a friend during LA Pride this year (2010), and for sushi, it wasn't bad. Their fish was fresh, and their eel roll was tasty, but I wouldn't go so far and say it was the best sushi I've ever had. I eat sushi every once in a while, and there are two things I look for in good sushi: cut, and structure. Their cuts were good, but the structure wasn't what I would expect from a sushi master. Also, the sauce they put on the eel roll was a bit on the saltier side...
I would definitely have lunch there again. The staff was friendly, and the prices were moderate. The prices match the food. But when I want top of the line... well, this isn't top of the line. What do you expect? It's more of a quaint place for lunch or early dinner. -
Review from Jim L.
Very satisfying experience at probably one of the more underrated restaurants on the Boulevard. Our waiter, Ryan, was truly charming and accommodating. The patio was truly a lovely site, though the tables are only semi-private. That did not bother us. I ordered a sashimi dinner which came with the biggest salad I have ever been challenged to eat as a dinner component. The dressing was a bit predictable but not offensive. The sashimi plate was lush and filling, fresh and worthwhile. Ryan was really good about keeping an eye on my lack of ginger and wasabi control. He brought us more without prompting, which was attentive of him.
I also like this place because it is not a "see and be seen" sort of restaurant. Rather, it's a small, family run business that does a meritable job of crafting a good meal for a guest. -
Review from Carla B.
***Decent sushi, but... well, a few things...***
Ok, it is decent. I went with my boyfriend and had the Shrimp Tempura, Oh My God and Yellowtail rolls, which were good. However, (to each its own, of course) I respect matt's opinion, but for me it was good, yet not the best I've ever had. And I, too, have been to Japan a few times and could probably eat sushi every day. To me, it was definitely good, but not epically remarkable.
Now, what has me not considering this place as a first option when craving sushi isn't just the sushi in itself... Our sushi chef kinda had a non-welcoming grin on his face and just kept gawking at us and our food ALL FRIKIN' DINNER! LOL! Not that he was impolite verbally, but the expression was very bitter, and the fact that he was standing very close (about 3 feet away), right in front, and just staring so much was a little uncomfortable. We chose to ignore and carry on the conversation; but at some point I even kind of felt I HAD to include him in the conversation although he wasn't chatty or warm at all! X-D It was just one of those awkward moments.
I saw they also have a baby lobster sushi roll that seemed interesting. Menu isn't huge, but the place is very cute, the waiter who took our drink order was very polite and the rolls we had were good. I could go back, but I'd sit at a table, for sure! :-D The area is nice -- very clean and gay-friendly, and there's a very nice French crepe place across as well as a Coffee Bean shop. Parking's on the meter, so take some quarters with you. -

Los Angeles, CA
I enjoyed myself here, with the help of two pretty ladies, and the food was ok, we had the cosmo roll, and it was excellent but poorly constructed. and for every new sushi place, i try out two things: a spicy tuna roll and a spider roll.
the tuna, again, tasted fantastic, fresh and succulent, but (again!) was poorly put together. the tuna would fall out as often as the cosmo roll would fall apart. no such problem with the spider roll, it was just this short of bland and too big, too tight, and with a bit too much rice.
but again, even it still tasted all well and good, and luckily i wasnt paying, or i think i wouldnt return because i was able to see how much everything cost. gimme an extra $ on here, Yelp!
i will say this tho, the service was very good. attentive and unobtrusive, engaging and knowledgeable. with a few tweaks, this place could be simply fantastic! -

Ate sushi on a Monday evening.
It was not packed, which was good but it used to be packed when it had another name, with many beautiful women there.
Not so much now...
And the sushi was just ok. It used to be better and one got more for their money. I would go back if it was the only convenient place around but I would not make a trek there if I didnt need to. -

Believe all the hype. Ari-ya is fresh, affordable, and generous, especially for a sushi spot in LA. I've had the philly roll, Ari-ya roll, and their baked lobster roll and it was a party in my mouth.
The only downside I can come up with is that it's small, but it's cozy... and parking is kinda tough and you have to keep your eyes peeled if you're not familiar with the area.
They say they have free one hour parking across the street at the garage but only until 6PM. I think it's $6 bucks flat rate after that.
