This place is known for its sparkling wines, and they're okay. Depending on your tastes, you'll probably find one or two you'll like enough to purchase. But overall, the sparklers are a tad unbalanced in palate and/or carbonation. (That is, harsh soda attack on the palate) Not worth $10 tasting fee status. (Which can only be waived if you purchase 3, yes, 3, bottles. That's excessive, only outdone in bad taste by Domaine Drouhin, which only puts the fee toward purchases of $150 and upwards.)

The staff is a bit standoffish and less than completely knowledgeable. The tasting room is small but cute, with a nice room off to the side where groups of 10 can be comfortably seated.

I'd stop here if you're on the 99W and looking for sparklers to liven up your otherwise still wine-dominated Willamette Valley traipse.

I was pleasantly surprised by Argyle. I was expecting a tourist trap with bad wines but instead I had a fun and delicious experience. We really enjoyed all of their wines, from their sparkling wines to their pinots to their dessert wines. I also enjoyed their country home setting and the fact that they have cheeses out so you can get a little food in while drinking all day.

Argyle is a really fun stop in the Willamette Valley.  They specialize in sparkling wines and have some really delicious and unusual wines.  I wasn't blown away by their non-sparklers, and there's so much competition nearby that I think they're skipable, but the sparkling wines make for a fun tasting.  We really enjoyed their black brut, which pairs well with savory foods as well as not-too-sweet desserts.

we had a great stop at argyle last weekend - we came in close to closing time but the staff was warm and friendly and didn't rush us out, nor pressure us to buy, though i did, because the 06 brut was _that_ good.  they have a lovely garden; the tasting room itself is quite pleasant - not as awkward as some.  the sparkling wine tasting flight was awesome - admittedly, i do love the bubbly, and haven't found much of it in oregon wine country, but the range of theirs was excellent, including a rose and a pinot - yummy!

I would defintetly hit this winery first. Why? Because most people won't buy wine at their first stop, and if you don't, then you're not missing much.

There wasn't really anything that stood out for me here. Sure, the Pinot Noir was good, but nothing that stood out.

The server didn't tell us anything about the wines, and the tasting fees were a bit high.

I think what impressed me the most about this place was not the wine, but the bar. The bar was made out the barrels, and you can even see the wine stains. Nice bar all around, but not the mostly friendly.

We were told that this was the best winery in Oregon. WOW.... they definitely price their wine like they think they are. Now, I'll admit, my husband and I have done quite a bit of wine tasting (mostly in central cali), but were not expecting the wines here in Oregon to be so steep. We both sell wine at our jobs and are generally greeted much warmer by wineries.

Not that our server was rude. She was very nice, in fact. What we had a problem with was the tasting fees ($7 for 1 brut, a chard, 2 pinots and a dessert wine- plus $1.50 each taste for 2 more bubbles, and a reisling) $10 a person! We bought 3 bottles- $45 pinot  and 2 $35 bruts. you would think that spending over $100 on wine would allow us to be comped the tasting. WRONG!!!! We spent over $130 dollars here. The juice was good, but I've had better, especially at that price.

And usually, we get given the standard industry discount of 30%. Not here. Maybe it's because we didn't look like all of the other moneyed-polo shirt wearing- blue hairs in the tasting room. Maybe it's because they suck. The wine itself: 4 stars. Attitude-based pricing : -1 star.

Their bubbly is supposed to be renowned but I wasn't that impressed. I would've given it 3 stars but the person pouring our wine was cold, uninformed and all business. It seemed like she was just there for the paycheck. They have a nice comfortable deck though.

Oregon Pinot Noir - yum!

One of my regrets about leaving Oregon is losing close proximity to the wine heaven known as the Willamette Valley.  The wineries in Oregon for the most part have not succumbed to the jaded 'wine industry' attitude that you stumble upon sometimes in California.  Argyle is no exception.

The tasting room is a nice space staffed by even nicer folks.  They'll even tell you their other favorite wineries and best restaurants in the area.  And the wines...

Argyle wine is amazing - try the Nuthouse Pinot Noir, which deservedly wins industry praise, and don't forget to have some of their lovely Brut sparking wine.

(Several wines are available outside the winery, too, so I can live in CA and still get my hands on my beloved Oregon wines.)

A pleasant stop in the Dundee area of Oregon wines. Nice tasting room, with long bar made of former wine casks. Some beautiful professional photographs of the Oregon wine country throughout the various seasons.   Very well done.  Tasting fee of $5 for their main six wines, the sparkling wines or two special reserves.

I liked the reserves, but thought they were a little pricey for the quality. The sparkling wines were really good and compare favorably with some CA gems. Other wines were ok.

A couple pinot's and the Brut sparkling wine were the best.  A nice stop for sure along the Oregon wine trail.

Argyle threw a nice party for Thanksgiving weekend, with cheese, some spicy sausage, a live band, and of course, some tasty wines.  Their brut champagne especially stands out, but their pinots are tasty too.  Friendly staff and a convenient location right along the road make this worth a stop.

Gross industrial location off the main "highway".  Tasting room staff was snippy and nothing stood out except for a Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine.

I'd skip this winery in favor of:

Archery Summit, Erath, Domaine Serene and Domaine Drouhin.

This place is PACKED so if you want to go wine tasting comfortably without having to fight for a spot at the counter, don't go here.  They are on the main road so that's probably why they are so packed.  We did have a really good pinot noir, the Spirithouse, but it costs $70/bottle which is a bit expensive.  Tasting is $10/person for 6 or 7 wines, which includes brut, whites and reds.  They have a tasting that's just brut as well, but we didn't try that.  I guess if you like bubblies, check it out.  Otherwise, I suggest going to the other wineries instead.

Another great Oregon winery.  Their prices used to be a lot cheaper about 3 years ago.  I used to buy their pinot noir and sparkling by the case because it was quite drinkable and the best deal around.  As they have gotten more popular and pinot noir has also gotten so popular, their prices have gone up considerably.  Now I often look to other vineyards that have superior quality.  However, I have way too many fond memories of Argyle to give them anything other than 5 stars.  I may work in Sonoma County, but I grew up in Oregon with Oregon pinot noir and that is where my heart lies.  They have a nice tasting room and they open up a whole barn in back for events like the day after Thanksgiving.  Still worth trying but not as ridiculously cost-effective as they used to be.

Very friendly staff, which is a plus when you're going wine tasting.  Various tastings to choose from.  The reserve merlot was good, I couldn't pass up buying a bottle.  Plus a bottle of the reisling too.  The sparkling wine was crisp and tasty.  But I really couldn't carry too many bottles back in my suitcase.  The tasting room is located in a quaint house, with what looks like private tasting rooms off to the side.  I also noticed that the bathrooms were labled "arguys" and "argyrls"...cute.  As out-of-towners, we appreciated the recommendations of restaurants from the staff.
