74 reviews for Arguello Pet Hospital
This past May, my cat fell four stories out a window and went missing for 24 hours. A neighbor found him hiding under a planter, covered in blood, urine, and feces. I immediately called Arguello Pet Hospital, and, within about 30 minutes, Dr. Ina (the daughter) and a vet tech arrived to help transport kitty to their facilities. Before leaving, Dr. Ina and I agreed on next steps: check-up, blood tests, and x-rays. She also said she'd call me before doing anything else. Within an hour, I'd heard from them on their initial diagnosis (shattered wrist, broken rib, broken soft palette). I went over to visit him, and met with Dr. Ina re: what to do next. He was given fluids and some other tests (all pre-approved by me) to check for bladder damage and internal bleeding. He also stayed overnight. The next day, with tons of support from the staff, I got kitty and we went up to Dr. Sams, the referred orthopedic pet specialist extraordinaire.
I've been an Arguello Pet Hospital lover for years, but this ordeal really drove home how wonderful and supportive they are. I received tons of check-in calls from Dr. Ina, from the day of to months afterward. The care is top notch, and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

I was pretty freaked out when my dog got a foxtail up his nose and was sneezing blood all over the place. I took him to Pets Unlimited and my heart sank when they gave me an estimate of $1000 to remove it and told me Django would have to stay all day. I decided to get a second opinion at Arguello Pet Hospital, where they removed the spiky grass for just $185 and we were out of there in an hour.
Everyone there was friendly and helpful, and Dr. Jamie Ina was wonderful with Django and throughout the whole process -- she even called to check up on him a few days later. I'm thrilled to find a great (and affordable!) vet.
My only regret is the $90 I paid to Pets Unlimited just for the consult...
Still very happy with their service.

My girlfriend and I have been taking our dogs to Arguello for a few years now. I've been less than impressed the last few times I've taken our pets in to see the vet. I love Doctor Kang and the front office staff has always been very gracious especially Trace. I've been very impressed by the diversity of the front lately. However, there is one receptionist that I've found less than desirable. Her name is Vicky. On several occasions I've found her to be rude and condescending especially when I've had questions about the services on the bill. She has become very defensive when I've asked what things are and responded as if I'm questioning the price. I simply just want to understand what da2pp means etc. I've seen her become this way with other clients while I've been waiting in the lobby. I really don't understand why they still keep her around. After this last visit I'm considering going elsewhere.
SO. After already writing them a 1-star review because of HORRIBLE customer service (I mean the bitchiest receptionist I have EVER encountered), insanely high prices, and the way they always want to run a million expensive tests and not tell you what they're for or how much they'll cost, I have had yet ANOTHER bad incident with Arguello. I scheduled an appointment last week for this morning, and my boyfriend had to take the dog because I have work today. This is the only day he had free, this is the ONLY day for which I would have made the appointment, he heard me talking to the receptionist on the phone and the receptionist said TUESDAY. TUESDAY TUESDAY TUESDAY. He shows up and they have him on the books for tomorrow. He can't go tomorrow. Will my dog ever get her booster shots and rabies vaccine? Not if Arguello can help it.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. The good reviews for this place are written by pet owners who just don't know how great a veterinarian can actually be, and have settled for this overpriced scam of a pet hospital.
I encourage all patrons of this office to try ANY other vet's office, you'll be AMAZED at how together, friendly, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced they are compared to Arguello. EVERY time I come here, I say I'll never be back. This time I MEAN IT.

SO.
My little baby Tybalt had been weird, really weird, he had a case of the runs, wasn't eating or drinking very much water.
I have only had him for about 2 weeks, so I am in really over protective new crazy mommy mode. I looked up his symptoms online, and the diagnosis ranged from upset stomach to liver cancer, the paranoia set in.
I wanted the best for my new kitty so I hopped on yelp to scout out possible options. Argeullo Pet Hospital called out to me some how, I grabbed the phone, I called, asked if they had any appointments that same same day, and they fit me in! SCORE.
3 hours later.
I arrive at a really friendly looking building with a rainbow on it. I walk in and am greeted by a lovely receptionist with a warm smile. She was patient, kind, and very informative, she didn't mind my poor self asking how much everything was going to cost etc. I hardly waited ten minuets before being taken into an exam room by doctor Weiss. She was so kind and loving to both me and my cat. She answered my long list of knit picky worries and concerns, she laid out all of my options, and helped my pick the best line of treatment for my budget. I loved that she seemed to be genuinely listening to me and took time to explain to me all the options I had.
Great hospital, great staff, and great doctors!
I just took my puppy in and the younger Dr. Ina did a fanstic job. She's attentive, loves animals, and is a great doctor. I highly recommend this place!
My kitty Loki was gradually getting really skinny. I was worried about him, convinced that he had cancer, and at the same time terrified about taking him to the doctor. Even though this Pet Hospital was perhaps the least convenient to my house of the top three I was looking at, it sounded as though it were the cleanest and kindest place to take my little baby. I took him there, and... wait, I don't need to tell you myself. I can let Loki tell you! As it turns out Loki is on this social networking site for cats called Catster, and he wrote a diary entry about the whole thing.
Yes I am a creepy cat obsessed lady. *cough http://www.catster.com... cough*
In Loki's own words, the abridged version (he tends to ramble):
"Momma took me[...] into a room with metal and lots of kitty smells and medicine smells. It was very clean but very strange. I wasn't too worried, as I tend to like new places (unless they are on wheels) and so I checked out my new place. Then I sat on momma's lap and she sang to me and petted me a lot and held me and let me look out a window. I saw a really big doggie! Gross. Then a lady in a white jacket came in and she and momma talked about me for a while, and I really liked that. I can always tell when people talk about me and I LOVE the attention, so I purred and showed off my tail and talked with them.
"Then the lady in the jacket took me into another room, away from momma. She poked me with something and stuck her fingers in my mouth. Then she took me back to momma, and momma put me back in the little box. I wasn't as upset this time around, and after seeing another big doggie (gross!) we got back into the box with wheels. I was much calmer, and momma sang this song to me,
"On the road again,
it's me and Loki on the road again,
he is my fuzzy little ginger friend
well it's me and Loki on the road again.
"On the road again,
it's me and Loki on the road again,
and I will be with him until the end
just me and Loki on the road again."
"That made me feel good, as I know that my momma will always take good care of me. Then we were outside again, then back home, just like that! Momma said we had been at the doctor's office, and I vaguely remember in the back of my kitty brain that I went once when I was a little boy to get tutored (sp?) and I was poked a few times then, too.
"Well, momma found out that I am hyperthyroid, which is why I am too skinny and have so much energy and such a big appetite. She is very happy to find out that I am completely normal besides that. That was no big deal at all!"
Anyway, if you need to get your pet in to a veterinarian, go to Arguello Pet Hospital. And if you are on Catster... friend Loki please! He wants Elite real bad.
I've learned to not treat my puppy like a child but when it comes to his health, there's no bargaining.
This was another, "Thank You Yelp" situation because it helped me find this place. Their service is great from vets to receptionist. They are very responsive, called me right away after I emailed them and I was able to book an appointment quickly. My poor pup had a bad reaction to the vaccination and I had to rush him to an emergency hospital. The next day Dr. Jamie Ina from the Arguello Pet Hospital followed up and made sure she spoke to me directly instead of leaving a message to assure that everything was OK (talk about amazing!).
They have supplies on-site like dietary foods, toothpaste and even shampoo. I never felt like they were trying to sell me services or promote specific brands. Plus, they're online portal is easy to access, gotta love that!
Absolutely *love* this place. The first time we took our poodle in, he had a nasty eye infection. They not only took care of his eye, but they also showed me how to properly clean his ears. I'd never thought to clean his ears before. Even though I felt like a bad mom, they assured me that many people don't know to clean the ears, allowing me to feel less guilt-ridden. :-)
By the end of the visit, he had his eye infection cleaned, meds for home, and ear solution so I could keep cleaning his ears. Not only were they very nice, but the cost was quite reasonable. A week later, Dr. Ina called to follow up, making sure Bailey was still doing OK. Even though he was fine, the followup call meant a lot to me - it showed that they truly care about each animal they treat.
This morning I called them because Bailey had a bad fall from a bed last night. They were able to see him immediately and Dr. Ina called within a few hours with a diagnosis - dislocated hip. She never made me feel rushed or that I was taking up her time, as can sometimes happen when talking to doctors on the phone. She answered my questions thoroughly and was just very nice overall.
While my only experience is with Dr. Jamie Ina and the various staff, I would feel comfortable leaving Bailey with any of the doctors here. Everyone I've encountered there has been just really friendly, competent, caring people. I would highly recommend this place for the furry family members.
One thing to be aware of: Parking can be a hassle. Leave some extra time to find a spot.
Okay, they were really really nice about refilling a prescription for our rats. Several months ago, the boys had developed a sneeze, so we brought them in and got some Baytril. Within a few days, they were all better. But a few months later, the sneeze had resumed. So I called to ask if we could get more Baytril, and they did up a refill that was ready to pick up the next day. It was really convenient and nice of them. Five stars!

My cat's new vet and we both like the staff at this pet hospital. They were cordial and swift in getting us in to see the doctor and we were just there for a check up!
very very good and friendly staffs!!
I have been their client for 4 years so far, had 3 to 4 different doctors with them and I finally found best doctor for my dog and cat.
Her name is Margaret Kang. She is super nice and I can tell she is really care about my little ones. I got a cat very first time in my life several month ago, and didn't know what to do around with him and it was time to take him to vaccinated and she gave me so many valuable tips reflected her own experiences! which other doctors really don't care about how I feel about my pets or something. She even remembers how my cat was last time I visit and by noticing any small things makes me very comfortable with her. That means she cares about her clients!!!!
Before I met her I once met this one doctor at this hospital with my dog and she was not even look at my puppy real close and gave him medicine and bill came out around 100 bucks when she only looked at him less then 5 min consultation that was 65 bucks and the rest of was onitment by other staff and medicine.... I was really upset and thought to change to different hospital.
Anyway I got a nice doctor here and I will stick with her!!!
Go and ask for Margaret Kang!!!
Goes back to my pekingese when she was getting spayed... She ended up getting an infection that was diagnosed as yeast or crystal infection... Great work Doc Fong!! He did the spaying and my dog ended up with 3 years of antibiotics that did not cure her bleeding Urinary tract... Finally found out when I transfered to Holly pet hospital that my peke was diagnosed with a stump piametra i know thats not how you spell it but it sounds like that well its when they remove the ovaries and left a stump of i guess fallopian tube... my poor peke had 3 years of pain and suffering + her dad was stuck with the 3000 + dollars the pet insurance wouldnt pay for because they said it was previously diagnosed as something else so they are exempt from paying... whatever! and I guess things like this no doctor will step up and say some one F'ed up...
+ Dr. Fong never tells you how much stuff cost but always recommend stuff to you... and you know Arguello is expensive...
Will never go here again... and won't recommend anyone to go here...
well after I spend 3000 my peke has been free of illness every since... she is 6y/o happy and no more infections...
I'll admit it...when it comes to my little guy, I don't take anything lightly.
Luca had a little bump on his ear, which felt like it could be a mole, or a scab, or just some dirt or something caked on. When it wouldn't come off easily, and he started flinching when I tried to touch it, I thought I should bring him in.
Turns out, it was just a scab. Dr. Price gently got it off my poochie's ear, and even checked out his ear canals to make sure he didn't hurt anything else (and probably to make me feel less silly for bringing him in for a scab).
The point? They teased me a little when I left, but it was all in good fun. Dr. Price and the rest of the staff take such good care of my dog, and of me when I am being a hypochondriac dog mom.
I have taken my little boy poodle here a few times and now it's our regular place. I had tried Pets Unlimited in the past but simply couldn't afford their prices and had a hard time getting appts. Arguello Pet Hospital is close to home and they've been great. I've gone for a couple of routine appointmnets as well as a drop in when my dog was attacked by a large dog. They were really helpful in that situation, and calmed me down quite a bit. Coco seems to like everyone there and we've had all positive experiences. We have seen both Dr. Kang and the younger Dr. Ina who have both been great and when he was hurt in the dog attack she called the next day to see how he was! I really liked that.
I never had a problem with the vets or any of the office staff except that snotty queen with the phony British accent - just too much to bear.
My dogs veterinarian decided to do an eye test on my little guy without consulting with me first. AND charged me for it. The little guy had already undergone that test at his previous veterinarians office... if she had just asked me first or simply looked at his medical records I provided Arguello Pet Hospital she would have known that. I would still like to give them a chance despite this.
The front desk always seems bothered, hurried, annoyed, and more often than not incompetent. Except for Tracy (I think that's her name) who is very helpful and patient on the phone. Tracy, because of you we're giving APH 3 stars instead of 2.
When I originally read the reviews for Arguello Pet Hospital, I was a little scared off by the mean receptionist remarks. So we called and scheduled an appointment for my kitty somewhere else. But then, we had a minor emergency and I called Arguello (The other place was closed on that particular Sat) and they got us in right away. The staff was so nice and friendly and I never saw the mean receptionist (Perhaps she is gone?) and trust me I was on the look out. I had to come back three other times during the week and there were only smiling faces.
The doctor was very kind and thorough. And they treated my little lady with so much affection. It meant a lot that when I had to leave her there for a procedure, she was in caring hands. And of course, they called the next day to make sure she was feeling ok.
In addition, the prices here are very reasonable. Perhaps I am used to Manhattan vet prices, but I was pleasantly surprised by the cost.
I think we have found ourselves our new pet hospital!
We love Arguello Pet Hospital and Dr. Perry Heffelfinger. Here's why:
(1) Her brother is a friend of mine;
(2) She loves dachshunds;
(3) My dachshunds love her;
(4) Reasonable prices (hell, vet care ain't cheap anywhere, but at least they don't bankrupt you here);
(5) Kenneling services on those rare occasions that I need them;
(6) The staff is really wonderful.
Perry has been Andy's vet for going on 10 years now, and I suspect she'll be his vet until he dies. Good folks all around at Arguello.
This is a wonderful place for pets.
I came home one night from work and found my beloved 14 year old cat Rollie obviously ill and they were able to squeeze me in early the next morning. Unfortunately she was too sick to help and I had to put her to sleep (which left me utterly heartbroken) but everyone in this pet hospital was incredibly wonderful and caring. From the receptionist who made my appt over the phone and gave me "gold stars" for coming in early to fill out paperwork to the vet Dr. Price who was incredibly caring and sensitive to my pain at losing my cat. Everyone was wonderful. I'll be bringing any future pets here since I know they provide such wonderful care.
Arguello Pet Hospital and Dr. Weiss are both so amazing!
I got a referral to Dr. Weiss from a woman at 'Catnip & Bones' 5 years ago before we picked up our mini doxie puppy. She had such good things to say about Dr. Weiss, and said that they were especially amazing with small dogs. She was so right.
Isabella has been going here since she was 9 weeks old, and I have to say that they are fantastic. They are so loving and patient with dogs and offer up the best care.
Also, they are so honest. They never try to sell extra services, tests or medication if my dog does not need it-- this saves me not only worry, but money. Nice. Many vets in this city (I've heard) milk you for tons of money because most of us wouldn't bat an eyelash at opening up our wallets to spend anything on our pets. Arguello Pet Hospital doesn't capitalize on this. My dog is in such good hands when she is at Arguello Pet Hospital!
i love arguello pet hospital!
i have an old cat so we go there fairly often, and i am always very pleased with the service we recieve. yesterday, i showed up a day early for my appt.(oops!), and they graciously managed to fit me in.
i usually see dr. weiss, and like her friendly, proffessional manner and trust her expertise. when she hasn't been available, all the other vets i have seen were great also. also kudos to the excellent lesson i had from one of the vet techs. i was really freaked out about administering fluids to my cat, but he patiently walked through me through the steps, and when i did it at home, his careful instructions kept running through my head and helped a lot.
thanks to everyone at arguello pet hospital!
I have always had a pleasant experience bringing my pup here. In fact, he doesn't ever want to leave! The front desk people are helpful on the phone & really seem to enjoy all the furry creatures that come in. Dr. Heffelfinger is kind and professional.
Bonus points for having my dog in and out pretty quickly for his neutering...in at 9am, done surgery by 11 (with a phone call letting me know he was ok), and home at 4pm.
We brought Penny by to get a check up and update her shots since we hired a dog walker and they needed that paperwork.
We got scheduled in to see Dr. Price on very short notice. I was impressed. We even started our appointment 10 minutes early! wow! I thought we'd have to sit around and wait forever!
Dr. Price was very nice to Penny and Penny did pretty well at the vet. They take your dog to a separate room to do all the shots and blood work on them, which I thought was a good idea, because I'm sure Penny could feel my nervousness and would probably react to that!
Dr. Price answered all of our questions and all the staff was very friendly. I'm glad we found such a nice vet!
Price: about $180 for the check up, shots, heartworm blood work and heartworm meds.
I just bought a puppy last weekend and we took him to Arugello Pet Hospital. We were kept waiting a while but it wasn't too bad. The front desk staff was very nice, especially an older gentleman and older woman. While my boyfriend and I waited, everyone complemented on how cute Bing Bing is.
We saw Dr Margaret Kang. She is very nice and very helpful. She was patient with all our questions and super loving towards my baby. Sadly she told us our baby had an ear infection and some mild eye problems but they could both be easily fixed. It was a bit pricy but she helped us pick pet insurance which is great. I will be coming back again.
I was not prepared to experience what I had to do last Tuesday. But Dr. Heffelfinger and her staff were so amazing. I walked in already upset that I may have to put my 17 yo cat to rest. I couldn't even speak when they politely asked me what time my appt was. One of the nurses immediately tried to ease my mind. When the time came for me to make my decision, they gave me cremation options. Dr. Heffelfinger informed me of the process. She was so patient and understanding of my unhidden grief and let me have my alone time with my cat. They allowed me to stay while they administered the shot, again letting me cry hysterically while still remaining professional and calm. They were all very respectful and kind. So, no matter what the cost is, to have that kind of understanding from strangers is priceless. A few days later I received a hand written and thoughtful sympathy card from the doctor. I recommend them highly.
2:00 pm: text from roommate Pete...CALL HOME ASAP
2:05 pm: message from roommate Talia..."Lauren, I took the dogs for a walk, and Brody got stung by a bee. He is at the Pet Hospital, and should be OK, but you should call home ASAP."
2:06 pm: my frantic phone call to roommate Talia..."HOLY SHIT!! Is he OK? seriously what happened? How is my pumpkin? Is he gonna make it?"
After an explanation as to what happened, (Brody stepped on a bee, passed out, eyes wide open, went limp, and pooped himself) Talia explained to me that she stayed calm and got him to the vet, and they were medicating him, keeping him for observation. She picked him up at 5 and brought him home.
I walked in the door, I had medication waiting for me, and a dog who was pacing the house with a toy in his mouth waiting for his mother to come home from work. Did this dog really get stung by a bee? He appeared to be perfect. Aside from the bill, there was no sign of my dog ever even being sick. Especially sick to the point of playing dead unintentionally. I didn't see the vet. I didn't step into the office. All I know is that I have a healthy dog. That's what is important. 5 stars for a healthy dog. 5 stars for a roommate who rules.
F**k bees.
I have been taking my animals to Arguello Pet Hospital for over 20 years. My parents took our dogs and now as an adult I take my cats. I always get great customer service and much compassion too! I have been seeing Dr. Perry Heffelfinger who treats my cats and she's great! She's very thorough, explains things to me and always gives me an accurate estimate on what it will cost. I have never had any problems with the staff members who are always helpful and friendly. I highly recommend Arguello Pet Hospital for thorough and compassionate care for your pets.
My dog is so important to me. Our pets are so important to all of us. That's why we have to have faith and trust in our vets. Thats why I bring HOPE to the Arguello pet hospital.
Dr. Weiss is our doctor. She give Hope a good check-up before the requisite blood work and vaccinations. I have the feeling that things are not just perfunctory. She cares about her patients.
This past visit Hope had accumulated large mats of hair. She has an incredible undercoat and sheds like a maniac. I was concerned about taking her to a groomer for fear of her getting cut. The people at Arguello went above and beyond and trimmed Hope down enough so it won't be a challenge for a groomer.
Thank you Dr. Weiss and all of the people at Arguello.
Having a sick pet is worrisome. Having a terminally ill pet... just destroyed me. Rusty was the most beautiful friend I ever had. A wonderful, orange, smelly old friend. A best friend.
My fiancee Craig rescued him years before we met in New York. When we started dating, Rusty didn't like me. Then, he had an allergy attack and had to go to the vet right before I was supposed to pet sit for Craig's business trip. I bundled him up in a towel and carried him the whole way, gave him his medicine and got to know him very well during that week. We became friends and when I moved in, we became best friends. He started to talk all the time, come to my aid when I was being tickled to death and sleep on my pillow sometimes. He knew when I was sad. Rusty liked lasers, snacks, and having his nose rubbed.
When his kidneys failed this year, we took him to a vet that was new to us, Dr. Heffelfinger at Arguello. She was very kind to him, as was the staff, and they liked him a lot. I could tell that, although he was so ill that his personality was almost gone, he liked them, too. They gave us the options we had for trying to treat him, but the Dr. was very realistic about his situation. It was very hard for us to hear, but we needed to in order to make the right decision for him.
We tried a week and a half of treatment, re-tested and found that it was not working. Rather than continue his suffering, we decided it was time to euthanize Rusty. It was his 2nd kidney failure in 4 years; he wasn't healing this time.
Dr. Heffelfinger supported our decision and when we took him in for the injection, she was very kind and sympathetic. She really cared and could see that we were just heartbroken. I rubbed his nose while he went to sleep and she did it quickly as to not draw out a terrible experience. We received a heartfelt sympathy card from her in the mail the following week.
We had Rusty cremated and they returned him to us in a nice wooden box with a lock on it... and the rainbow bridge poem.
This may all seem corny to the non-pet owner, but there is a lot of guilt and grieving involved in this. It was such a difficult decision to make and then live with. Arguello Pet Hospital seems to understand the special relationship that people usually have with their animal friends; they ARE family. Because Arguello understands this, they are a very caring team. I really appreciate all they did for Rusty and will continue to use them in the future.
Everyone that works here is so kind and attentive. The wait isn't long (especially compared to other vets i have been to) and when i had to switch out my cat's antibiotics they even credited my account with the pills we hadn't used. they also have been calling in to check on my cats recovery. also, their prices are very reasonable.
In summation:
2: (at best) for the staff. Get it together, you represent fine vets and excellent technicians--act like it!
5 stars and beyond for the medical care & doctors in the office.
First off, I took both of my kitties here for their annual check-up.
I absolutely love Dr Margaret Kang. She is so sweet and genuinely caring with my furry babies.
Tragically, one of my cats passed away earlier this week suddenly of a heart attack. I immediately rushed him to the hospital but I knew he had already gone to kitty heaven almost instantly as I had witnessed it.(RIP sweet Miles). Dr Kang has been wonderful throughout my bereavement process. She walked me through what happened, has been thorough with both the lab results and proper memorial for my angel. And has promptly called me back with any questions I have about how to help my other kitty acclimate as they've been lifelong buddies. For her, 5+++ stars. I'd give her 10 if I could.
The staff: another story. One young lady in particular is the rudest person I've EVER experienced. The two times I've been in, it was all I could do not to call her out or report her to a superior.
(not sure if they'd give a shit though)
As I said my final goodbyes to Miles, she walked into the room and said "oh, you're still here" and took my credit card for his creamation while I was in tears.
When I was in before, another person asked her if she'd done something to offend her.....she provided a crappy explanation and was disrespectful to this person. Major chip on her shoulder.
The rest of the front office is lukewarm & indifferent, at best.
I realize they are 'running' the office but c'mon. I've seen emergency rooms and busy doctor's offices with much greater levels of stress run with more finesse and caring than most these people exhibit.
I highly suggest the vets do a "quality inspection" on how their staff behaves to its patients & their parents. I equate the vet with a visit to the pediatrician. If the front office staff at a doctor's office is obnoxious, you can bet it offsets whatever quality care you receive from the physician.
You bet your ass the next time I speak with Dr. Kang I will be bringing this up. Still love her though :)
Came here on a referral from a trusted friend. Great vet visit. 5 for the vets and staff! I love how professional both the Vet I saw, Dr. Price, and one of the assistants were.
As per other reviews, the front desk workers, especially the older heavyset woman with glasses who doesn't wear a nametag, but just a pin with some dogs on it, really needs to get their attitude a check. Makes me never want to come back. Maybe there's a reason she doesn't want her name shown, so when people call to complain they can't point her out.
I got there at 4:00pm on the dot, but I'm new so I had to fill out some forms. Last thing I wanted to hear was "YOUR APPOINTMENT WAS AT FOUR PLEASE HURRY UP." Over and over again. I had to leave work early to come here as a new client. For you to treat me that way- in the business world we call that in a dealbreaker.
Then later upon check-out, which took more then ten minutes for some reason, their credit card machine had an error (or perhaps just more incompetence?) and the woman said, "Oh was it declined?" Even the woman taking care of me appeared miffed.
And not to be snot, but I was wearing a Tiffany's ring on my finger and wearing my college alumni sweater. BUT even I was a raggedy bag lady, that's no way to treat your clients.
It's a horrible economy, many people are unemployed who deserve to have jobs. Clearly your front desk works do not value their jobs enough to perform them properly. There are plenty of great and overqualified replacements out there waiting to take your job. I suggest you actually do your job to keep it. You're an embarrassment to the office.
Unfortunately, I'll probably try somewhere else next time.
So far, this is my favorite pet hospital in the city. (I've only been to three though: Arguello, Marina, and Mission.)
Anyway, it's the cleanest, friendliest, and seemingly most knowledgeable staff. Very professional and comfortable with nice-sized rooms.
Street parking has always been pretty easy too. And they have a rainbow on the front! Happy happy joy joy.
Only downside is it's more expensive than the others...
I've had nothing but good experiences at Arguello Pet Hospital. I started going to Dr. Weiss on the recommendation of a co-worker who has two elderly cats that Dr. Weiss has managed to keep alive and healthy for several years now.
Both my dog and my cat seem to enjoy their time here. The prices are reasonable, and most importantly, I trust Dr. Weiss. I never feel like she is recommending unnecessary treatments just to rack up my bill.
As an added bonus, animated animal movies are always playing in the waiting room. I'm not sure who enjoys these more-- me or my dog...
People = friendly, nice and try to be as helpful as possible.
Cleanliness = as pristine, as it can be with animals coming in and out all day long.
Doctors/Assistants = super nice, friendly, and knowledgeable!
I have Dr. Kang, and she's really nice and sweet, and she takes good care of my cat.
They have an interesting system for having people checking in and out of the place (to settle the bill and take out their pets, without an altercation--i.e. dog v. cat)
As for the bottom line, the prices, are standard prices for animal care. I don't need the very best that a dollar can pay, but I'd like to think that my money is going towards quality care.
I received a very nice card from Dr. Weiss today. We only met for 5-10 minutes, enough time for her to tell me yes, my cat is very dead. This was such a nice gesture and it really shows that she cares about her patients and their pet parents...

Thanks for the same day appointment and for being kind and sensitive with my kitty today even though… Read more »
Arguello Pet Hospital is one of those oddities in my life because I live in the Mission near several others, but was recommended to this one by many other people when we got our dog this year.
Overall, it's ok - a bit pricey, but I LOVE the "tough-love" nurses and receptionists. Kind of like those gritty waitresses from truck stops that call you "hon."
HATE the parking around this area, though (minus one star). I think there is a embassy next door or something, too, which is kind of odd - I have come at all different times of the day and there is NEVER any parking! Grrrrr......
Positives: Doctor Kang & Staff, Reasonable Wait Times, Convenient location to my house
Negative: More costly than most other places.
We first brought our cats, Lucky and Lahp, here in November because our elder cat Lahp has obvious buildup of fluid in his stomach. They had never seen the vet otherwise. The receptionists were nice and the wait was short.
Lucky was healthy, but Lahp had a heart gallop and the fluid buildup. Considering he was 20 years old already (95+ cat years), he was still in excellent spirits for an old grumpy man.
Dr. Kang had seen them, and she touched them very delicately and was extemely nice. She recommended a few procedures for Lahp. We decided on just the fluid drain and analysis and she was respectful of our decision.
We got a follow up call a few days later that the analysis was pretty much inconclusive (which I knew would happen but had it done anyway).
We took him there again about 3 weeks later to have the fluid drained and I had to drop him off for a few hours, which made me nervous. This time he had to be sedated because he was fighting and resistant. But he came back okay, and the Dr. recommended steroids to keep him in a state of euphoria. Lahp only had that for about a week but the fluid came right back so I stopped the drugs.
The final time we visited Arguello was this Wednesday, 1/2/08. Lahp couldn't breathe so we took him for emergency drop off. Dr. Kang called and told me that she recommended euthanasia, which was very heartbreaking. But the right choice.
She and the staff were very kind as we went though this final procedure.
I'm glad to have gone to Arguello. And although I hope never to go back (because Lucky is healthy and strong, and the bills over 3 visits came to about $700), I'm glad that we had Dr. Kang to help Lahp and us through this final phase of his life.
