Was passing by this place after a hike with my girlfriend. The Empanadas have a different crust/bread to them than the normal style. Not as greasy which is a plus but lacking that buttery flavor of a normal empanada! The Dulce de Leche dessert empanada was awesome! The corn was good as well. Chimcurri sauce was great as usual! Not bad for the price but lacking that wow factor!

I was armed with http://restaurant.com coupon @ this place.

I walked in and the place looked different than I remember. I asked the lady if they remodeled it and she said yes.

I showed my http://restaurant.com coupon and the lady asked if that was from a year ago? I thought that was an odd question and I checked the date and I bought it 3 months ago.  She also reminded me 18 percents tip policy.  I actually knew about that because it was PRINTED there so that was kinda rude of her.

One dozen $20 and one for $2.25.   Empanada dough 12 packs for $2.50.

They had savory and dessert empanadas.
Savory: chicken, beef, veggies, ham&cheese, mozarella, tomato&basil, mozarella onion, corn, spicy mushroom&spinach, 3 cheese, spicy steak, and pepperoni cheese.
Dessert: apple and dulce de leche.
Some empanadas were 15 min baked to order (spicy mushroom, 3 cheese, duce and pepperoni cheese).

Free wifi so you can even yelp there. I t's been years ago since came here;  I went twice and I kinda like it. Guess what?  I was wrong.   I finally realized that was Empanadas's Place, not Argentinian Empanadas.

The empanadas were frozen empanadas.  The worker heated them up for me right there. They were the worst empanadas for me.  The dough was super dry and some of the filling leaked out because the empanadas cracked.  The only good thing was the cheese part.  Some of them were cheesy..My dulce de leche was super sweet that I had to throw away the filling.

1 star!! Frozen hot pockets are better than these.

    Argentinian Empanadas is not yummylicious!!

If you love good Latin food then you must stop by and grab a few empanadas from Argentianian Empanadas.  They are darn amazing and definitely filling!  I would recommend calling your order in ahead of time since each empanada is made on the spot!

I've driven by this place every morning and night for the past 5 years and tonight is the first time I've gone in.

I have friends from Argentina; friends that are still learning English and trying to figure out how to stay in the U.S. They make empanadas the way that their great-grandmothers taught them. I've eaten the empanadas fresh from the oven. I've also helped make them and packed them to be frozen and cooked at a later time.

Long story long, these tasted just like the ones I've made. The filling was flavored differently, but of course, that's all about personal preferences for spices. I tried the corn, chicken, beef, and ham and cheese. Confession #286, I ate all of them except the beef. I didn't like the flavor combination as much as the others. The empanadas were warm, the dough had just the right amount of flake and they didn't taste like frozen reheated food. I only eat microwave meals for lunch, so my palate definately knows the difference. The warmer was suspect, but it didn't seem like they had been sitting in there for hours on end.

I'm actually bummed that I pass by it every day because I'm going to be eating them quite often.

Really delicious! I was born and raised in Paraguay Asuncion for the first 8 years of my life, and all I ate were empanadas. These empanadas are very South American and authentic. Love, love the spicy beef, the ground beef, and the basil tomato and cheese. The price?....cheap....$2.50/each.

The guy that owns it is a hot Argentinian guy too! Five yummy stars for the taste, price, and eye candy!

With empanadas being a rare item you can purchase at a restaurant you have to try these out...I was craving empanadas & yelled thus location & thought I would take a drive to fulfill my tastebuds. My mouth was watering so bad from the tastey smell filling my ride I could barely contain myself. Needless to say...they were the best & fullest empanadas I have ever had!
Small spot, clean, street & side parking and helpful customer service.

Nice, cheap food. The warmer kind of scared me at first (I used to work at a concessions stand, and believe me, when you see a warmer it's almost always bad news bears), but the actual empanadas changed my mind.

We got vegetable, beef, and chicken. The veg and beef were alright, nothing spectacular, but the chicken... oh my, the chicken. It was absolutely fantastic, and tasted like it had cumin in it. So yummy. We were served almost immediately, which I would hope so because the store was empty.

I'm not sure who is ordering the crazier flavors of empanada (ham and cheese? agh), but I appreciate the vegetarian/vegan options. Yum. Plus, free wi-fi. I might start coming here once school starts up again to study and eat myself into a tasty, empanada-induced death.

Didn't taste like they were frozen to me, but they weren't mind-blowing either. Tried the spicy beef and chicken empanadas and they were ok. Dunno about coming back but $4.33 for 2 empanadas, chips and a drink is a pretty reasonable deal.

I live a few blocks away,so I decided to come and try the empanadas. The place is tiny. I think it only has about 2 tables in there. The menu is pieces of paper taped to the wall. I was shocked by how much each empanadas cost here! Since it was pricey.. I thought.. ok.. maybe it'll be worth the price. Boy, was I wrong. The empanadas were disappointing. They were freshly made, but that's the only compliment I can give. The bread was way too thick and the meat tasted.. weird.

Also, it took almost 30 minutes for us to get our 2 empanadas. I was already starving and they still didn't taste good. Never coming back again.

This is a small Empanadas restaurant with pretty good empanadas.  Most people go and order for take-out.

The first time I came here.. I only bought three pieces to have for lunch.  The first thing I thought of when I took a bite out of the Empanadas was.. "Damn, I should have bought more for later".

I came back a second time.. and bought only three again.  Their lunch deal is 3 Empanadas and a Drink.. for the same price if you just buy 3 by itself.. so.. I guess they throw in a drink during lunch.

There's also happy hour specials at this restaurant.

    They have

    Chicken
    Ham & Cheese
    Mozzarella Tomato & Basil
    Apple
    Cheese & Onion
    Beef
    Veggies
    Corn

I've only tried the top 5.  My favorite out of all of them would be the Mozzarella Tomato & Basil followed by the Ham & Cheese.  The cheese and onion is pretty good too.  Most of them are kind of cheesy.

They have certificates on http://Restaurant.com.  Also.. you're able to go here and buy them frozen to-go.. so you can make them at home on your own.  If you forget or lose the directions they give you.. you can also call them back and ask them for directions.  They're pretty helpful.

Parking: There's metered street parking in front of the store.  There are usually lots of open spaces.

This was the first stop on the Enigmatic Empanada Crawl. Now, my friend Liza R. and I arrived long after everyone else, due to horrid traffic on the 405. I must say, I was not impressed with this place at all. The storefront is very fastfood-ish, with barely any seating, bright red-orange walls, and no bathrooms.

Since we were already there, and were going to meet up with the others at Stop #2, we decided to try at least one Empanada. We had the Beef one, filled with a delicious ground beef filling with green olives. While the filling was very good, I thought the dough for the pastry to be dry and not tasty at all. Another thing I was not pleased with was that the cashier had no one dollar bills, and therefore could make no change. When one runs a business, said business needs to be able to make change.

One other thing I noticed was that there is a medical marijuana dispensery right next door. I wonder if this is a marketing ploy? Smoke the pot, get the munchies, get the empanadas. If so, that is very clever. I don't think I'll be back to this place, given all the other worthwhile Empanada choices in the area.

I'm not Argentinian or South American so I can't speak to the authenticity of these empanadas.  What I can address, class, is that the empanadas my husband and I ordered from here one night a few weeks ago were so gross, we took one little bite of each of them and decided to go to bed hungry.  That's saying a lot from two people who each have been known to eat couch pizza.

There is nothing else I can say except the empanadas tasted like a freezer.  Like old, stale hot pockets from someone else's freezer.  Maybe fresh, they're great, but the way we got them...as Al Bundy used to say, NO MA'AM.  We will not be coming back.

    Shauna's Empanada Crawl Stop #1

This was the first stop so we had no point of reference at this point. This was one girl worker operation and I'm sure when she saw a whole group of Yelpers coming in, this was what she was thinking
    http://www.youtube.com...

We got beef (reminded me of the microwaved beef burritos from HS), cheese & onions (mozzarella), and apple (as I expected tasted like McDonald's apple pie). For $2.30 for 1 and $6.15 for 3, it seems a bit steep for those little Argentinian Hot Pockets!

I love the accounting here by giving me change from the tip jar b/c she didn't have any $1 bills left.

    Empanada Crawl Stop 1

One thing about having school on a Sat that sucks is you only get an hour lunch and when you are trying to also partake in one of Minty's famous food crawls that is just not enough time. The crawl was to start at 1230 and we got a lunch break from 12-1 so it was a race, a race against time and the 25 yelpers who were bound to arrive any minute at this establishment to devour all the unsuspecting empanadas in sight.

My plan was for myself and Xuan to meet up with Debbie Y. and just double fist these luscious loads of goodness. And my plan ended up perfect as we arrived early with just one visible yelper, Hari, who was gracious enough to let us order first as he had seen my post on the thread about being early and in a hurry.

Now decision time for the flavors. Lets see they have Corn, Apple, Veggie, Beef, Chicken, Ham and Cheese, Mozzarella with tomato and basil, and Onion with Cheese. Which to order, yeah we will take all of them please and why don't you double up on what you think is the best I told the girl who looked in shock to see the line start to grow behind me. Oh while you are at it can you throw in a melanasa sandwich also to go since we are in a hurry please. Time to eat these bundles of flavor.  Well in my opinion the best were the mozzarella, cheese with onions, veggie and apple with the worst being beef. The sandwich was really good too. Too bad I was 10 minutes late going back to class.

Stop #1 of the Empandas Crawl:

This was the perfect first stop ... fortunently, Kevin C. arrived early and ordered one of each of the flavors so I got to try the beef, chicken, ham & cheese, mozzrella with basil, and apple.  I liked all of them except that the cheese ones were a little too cheesy for me.  The chicken was definitely my favorite.  This place is small with barely any seats so it's better for to-go.  I will definitely come back for more empanadas one day when I'm in the area.

    Minty's Empanada Crawl Stop 1

For the first stop on our crawl, Shawna picked this hole-in-the-wall empanada joint. I've no doubt passed this place a million times but I've never noticed it. With barely enough room inside to fit a line of five people, this is a truly tiny shop.

Since I'm veg, it's good to have a pair of omnivorous taste buds along with me. My boyfriend John was kind enough to team up with me on my Crawl Score Card and contribute his impressions to my overall assessment.

Empanadas tried: TWO: Tomato, Basil, Mozzarella & Veggie
Price: $5.60 for the #1 Combo: two empanadas and a drink
Verdict: John thought the TBM empanada had a disappointingly low amount of basil in it. With more basil he felt it would have been a much better empanada. I quite liked my veggie empanada. It's filling tasted a lot like a hearty stew and I was happy that they offered a veg option without cheese since empanadas are frequently either veg and cheese or meat and cheese.

Overall impression: pricier than it needs to be, considering the many deals located a few blocks away, but not all-together bad.

I am a FIRM believer in this little Empanada shop.

I have a good friend of mine that is from Argentina and for his birthday I brought him a dozen of these things and he was SO stoked on them.

I honestly could EASILY eat there everyday if I wanted to be extremely obese and not care about my life at all. The ingredients are amazing, the Ham & Cheese Empanada is delicious, the Garlic Fries are HEAVEN but definitely soaked in garlic (so be warned.), and the staff is VERY friendly!!

If you've never had an Empanada, go here for one!

NOTE: they are BAKED! not fried!!

While not the best Empanadas I've had, they did hit the spot for the hunger I had going.

A while back there was a Empanadas crawl with this being the first stop. Sadly I missed that whole event and got hungry just thinking about it. So I went and did my own little crawl.

The place is pretty small and they seem to run out of stuff really fast, so my suggestion is to get here early enough to actually get some of the more popular kinds.

The pastry was a bit dry, which I guess is just your own preference for empanadas. I don't much care for it when they're too dry and flaky, I like a little moisture from the hot insides to keep it light and a bit fluffy.

It sort of makes me think that they were either frozen or something. The price isn't too bad, you can get a bargain for buying in bulk. 3 will cost you about 6 bucks. where as one will cost you $2.30. So you're really saving a couple of cents. And unless you really like it, it's not all that worth the savings.

I gave in to the temptation. On my route home from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training I get distracted by a sign that reads Empanadas. A quick reminder of my mothers homeland in South America. Except my aunt makes Chilean empanadas. These are from rival neighbor Argentina. I can give you a full sermon explaining the differences between two neighboring countries. But I won't. One thing Argentina has over the Chileans is better soccer players.

I trekked here after work last night. Meter parking was my only option. This establishment is small. Menu is kept simple. I ordered the dozen mixed empanadas. I chose beef, chicken, mozzarella with tomato and basil and the ham and cheese. Three of each. I also ordered Milanesa sandwich. The empanadas were given to me with some chimichurri sauce. It compliments the empanadas quite well.

While waiting for my order I read a sign on a chalk board that advertised free wifi. Order was complete in about fifteen minutes. I couldn't wait and immediately attacked the Milanesa sandwich. It was made to perfection. The bread roll was too thick. They need to choose a much thinner bread choice. I ate it on the 10 freeway and it was gone before I reached the 110 freeway.

When I arrived at home I oven toasted a chicken empanada. I poured some red Spanish wine. Perfection. This empanada was made very well. Tomorrow, I try the rest. Coffee will accompany the next ones for breakfast. Definetely try this spot.

Came here twice actually. First time, I arrived at around 8:40pm, knowing that they close at 9:00pm.  The door was locked and there was an employee inside. I was able to get his attention and inquired as to why the place was closed. He said he just decided to close up because no one was there. How annoying!

I gave them a second chance and come to find out that all they have to do is bake the empenadas. They are pre-made and you can get them frozen to take home. Otherwise, they keep some under heat lamps for your in store-consumption.

The empenadas were okay, they have a wide selection of flavors, but then a large cockroach came crawling across the floor in front and into the kitchen. That was the end of that experience and I'll never be back!

I went here today and thought the empanadas were delicious. I went with my Argentine friend and she was really excited to have found this place so close to work. We tried the Veggie (spinach), Corn, Cheese + Onion, and the Tomato +Cheese+Basil empanadas. All were delicious. A little flaky, like i like them.  We got a dozen empanadas + 4 drinks for $22 ( which i think is a deal) so we were able to have left overs to take home.

The restaurant itself is nothing fancy... but you can tell theyre clean and basic. I went around 5:30pm and was able to get the last of the veggie options, so i see why people have suggested to get there early before they run out.

I'm not in west LA much, but if i happen to be, and if im craving empanadas I wouldnt hesitate to come back.

I've been driving past this place for years but finally made a stop a week ago.

It's a small storefront with a blue awning. There are three tables inside and it was really packed when I came with over a dozen people. Most people ended up eating outside, standing up but I think this place probably does do a brisk take-out business.

I was originally going to go with a tomato basil mozarella empanada and the beef. But the TBM was already sold out so I got the ham and cheese. I had noticed the cashier wasn't handing out the chimichurri which I needed. I can't eat empanadas without chimichurri!

I loved the beef with the slightly salty taste of the olives but yes, the actual pastry part was just okay. Ham and cheese was...ham and cheese. Nothing great.

Each empanada was $2.30. There were price breaks if you got three or more. And they had combos as well.

I found street parking fairly easily. It's metered out front but free on the surrounding streets.

There's something about empanadas.  Little stuffed pastry portable meals of goodness.  So simple, and yet so complex.  So small, and yet so filling.  I went to Argentinian Empanadas the other day as a little mid-afternoon snack.  I'd heard a lot about it, and I'd seen it before, so I figured a sampling was due.

I ordered a chicken and a beef, and my girlfriend ordered a chicken and a vegetable.  The beef was whatever... I actually thought it was chicken until I got into the chicken one and realized my error.  The pastry was okay, but nothing special... perhaps could've stood to be fried a little bit instead of just baked.  The chicken fared a little bit better, but not by much.  My girlfriend's veggie empanada was the pick of the litter for sure... good spinach and veggie taste.

Oh, and they use packaged hot sauce, not homemade.  Negative points right there.  Don't be lazy, make something of which you're proud!  Besides, the hot sauce packets they give you are rojo, and with these types of empanadas a verde usually provides better accompaniment.

All in all, pretty whatever.  I probably wouldn't go back, especially since Empanada's Place is so close over on Sawtelle.  Similar prices but waaaaay better empanadas.  2 stars, nothing bad but I've definitely had better.

I notice I'm the first to write about this empenada place so I'll give it a 5 just to be fair and let others be the judge.

I just noticed this place down from my apartment on Robertson  Just north of the Bagel Factory.  So Yes!! I have empanadas whenever I want, or at least when I have the luxury to afford it.
For me, the empanadas were pretty decent.  I ordered the three empanada combo.  I wasn't too impressed with the beef so I'd avoid it and put my money on the others.  The chicken was good-even put in egg.  yum.  THe tomato, basil, and cheese was especially good too.  There is also a Milanesa sandwich + 1 empanada combo.  Perhaps I'll try it next time as well as a couple of their others I haven't tried yet. But yeah, I'd encourage folks to check it out and support your local businesses.

Saw this place a week or so ago, and finally decided to pay a visit. It's a small but a clean place with a very simple menu. It had only 8 different kinds of empanadas. Each empanada cost a little over $2, but my friend and I decided to get the 4 for $7.xx deal. So we got chicken, beef, cheese, and vegetable.
I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I think they tasted too healthy. Yet, I can't conclusively say that they are. I know empanadas are usually fried, but they didn't taste like they were.
I liked the chicken, but my friend liked beef and cheese empanadas.

Overall, I think they're reasonably priced and got reasonable taste. If you live close by or happen to be in the area and are really craving empanadas, I think it's worth going. But I wouldn't drive for more than 10, 15 minutes just to get empanadas from this place.

I've been wanting to go to this place to try the Argentinian version of empanadas.  I finally decided to go after I noticed that they were having a "happy hour 2 for 1 special" mon, wed, sun 3-7pm.

Once in I wanted to try the most traditional flavors which I thought would be the beef or chicken, but I guess they don't make extras on Sundays because they only offered what they had left -  2 chicken,1 ham and cheese or 1 corn.  So I said whatever, I'll take 2 chicken empanadas.  I must say it tasted like chicken pot pie, and the dough tasted a little bit too flourie or raw for me.  They weren't that great at all.   I'll take the Peruvian version of empanadas anyday.

I wouldn't go again really. Specially if they weren't doing the 2 for 1 special because I would never pay $2.25 for ONE tiny little empanada.  I'd much rather spend that on a tasty taco next door at Campos Tacos!

Nice little short order spot. The empanadas were pretty good (relatively light).  My personal favorite was the chicken, followed by the beef.  The cheese and tomato burned the roof of my mouth, which is my fault, but neither loved nor hated it.  The apple had a filling similar to a standard apple turnover, only the outside was an empanada. So it was fine if your craving an apple turnover, only super small and w/o the sugary crust and for pretty much the same price.  I guess I just talked myself out of ordering the turnover.

I did like how they cooked in the type of empanada i was eating.  c for chicken etc.

    Thumbs Up!

I vouch I correctly guessed what this establishment was serving inside.

Great empanadas. Not a restaurant, rather a take-out place.

Had some nice empanadas here. I had passed by the store before and noticed the place but funny thing is my mother and an old Coca cola commercial is what made me visit. My mother was craving empanadas with a coke so we got a box one day. I am certainly glad I did and will go back.

Only thing I would complain about is their brands are hard to make out but since all the empanadas are tasty anyway it doesn't really matter.

    Don't:
    - Go to Argentinian Empanadas looking for atmosphere. A quick drive by will tell you that this not the place you go to impress a date.
    - Expect someone to hold your hand through the ordering process. It couldn't be any more straight forward. I could scribble the entire menu on the palm of my hand.
    - Take cues on how many empanadas to order from two linebacker sized Samoans. I'm a healthy eater but after finishing the second one, I started channeling Karen Carpenter.

    Now the Do's:
    - Try the salad with the dried fruit and nuts. Totally worth it and a perfect reminder that man cannot live on meat alone.
    - Bring a friend, agree to share, and double your selection.
    - Order a couple of extras and throw them in the freezer. Nothing will set you straight after a bottle of Grey Goose like a couple of empanadas.

I had a coupon from http://restaurants.com for this place. So on a Sunday afternoon we stopped in. I was looking forward to the empanadas and being able to try a little of everything on the menu. Only to find out that on Sundays, they don't have a cook on hand, so they only offer empanadas on Sunday. And even though i understand why they don't want to pay for a cook on a slow day, it's one of the only days i'm able to head to that part of LA. It was disappointing to say the least.

My bf and I ordered the following flavors:
Beef - the flavors were okay
Chicken (my fav) - better than the beef
Mozzarella, tomatoes and basil - the cheese was melted very nicely, blended great with the tomatoes and basil
    Apple - eh, had better

Since we had the coupon, we used the rest to buy frozen ones to heat up later on. For 20 empanadas, we paid less than $14 because of our coupon. That's a great deal especially when one empanada is over two bucks each.

I wish i could say i'd come back, but it's very unlikely that will happen due to not having a cook on Sundays and Empanada Place on Sawtelle is better too.

On the way to the dentist, my friend noticed this tiny restaurant and started talking about how badly he wanted an empanada. I confessed that I had never had one before and that cemented our lunch plans. We dropped by after my appointment and I ended up buying 3 for myself and 3 to bring home for my husband (they threw in an extra for me, as well!). My friend bought 5 for lunch and none for later, which he regretted as soon as we were in the car. It's now 3 hours later and the empanadas are sitting on the counter begging to be eaten. I'm trying to resist the temptation. It's not that far of a drive to get more...

Good stuff. Had a few empanadas I really enjoyed and took me back to South America but the one dulce de leche was awesome! A cool little place to wander in and explore. It's small, like 3 tables small!

    Great place
I got a dozen assorted Empanadas for $20. They brand them so you know what you are eating. Next time I will try the Milanesa. I brought a friend who is Argentine and he liked it so its not just me.

Have to modify my last review. Had a party and ordered almost 80 empanada's. They were a hit. Everyone loved them even the Argentine's. Also I thought it was not a destination eatery but that was wrong.
A guy walked in today, looked at the menu and had a huge smile.
I would think they get business from the pot shop next door when people get the munchies, but it really isn't the case. People actually drive for the food definitely not for the decor. Do not bring a date.

Yummy and surprisingly inexpensive... I'd go there again for sure. Small seating area, more suited for a take out only.
