Simply put, Arena is a real gym with no b/s and that is really kicking butts.
I must admit that so far, I'm pretty impressed ...the classes are definitely challenging, the trainers friendly, qualified and efficient. They are good are memorizing your first name, in like 2 minutes too.
The people that train are cool too.
In a weird way, it looks like it's a big family of people working out together. Yes, I know, it sounds cheesy and weird. They are super active on all social networking sites, they blog, they have contests and competition. Pretty nice.
I joined 10 days ago after being a way-too-long member at Bodies in Motion. Ok it's not exactly comparable since pricing and classes are super different. Arena is more expensive but the quality of classes is way higher. And the trainers actually look like they work out ... :)
I also like the semi-private training concept, it's cheaper and you still get good results.
Maybe if I'm lucky, after 6 months of training there, I could win some hunger games. I mean, maybe. Even if I stick to their Spartan class, I am no Greek athlete after all. -
Review from Kailey O.
I used to come here back in the day! around 2004-2005.
I moved to the bay area and haven't found a kickboxing class that could even compare to the one here. Jonathan is the most amazing instructor, always making you feel important. Even though it's a group class, he always spends 1:1 time with you.
This is not a "cardio" kickbox class where you spend time in front of a mirror doing a dance routine. this is a self defense class, but not intimidating at all. I first came here knowing nothing, and now I know basic techniques.
Its not about just showing up doing your class and leaving. When I was here, Jonathan insisted we show up 10 mins early to do cardio before the actual class, then spent time doing the cool down afterwards. He cares so much about all clients. Best gym ever!!!!
I wish I could teleport here for class :( -

I am writing this review as client and a doctor. Arena is great. There are a lot of great gyms out there, but what sets Arena apart from the rest is how complete their service is. They help with nutrition, they have workouts for athletes, soccer moms, old and young. It's not the same workout each time either.
- They motivate you to get where you need to be. They use blogs, facebook posts, or a good kick in the butt if that is what you need.
try it you will not be disappointed,

Jonathan, Joe and Stacey are the best trainers you can get! They really care about your welfare and they are always pushing you to do your best. They're really friendly, and they go out of their way to make you feel at ease.
Best gym in the Valley without a doubt. -

In the short time I have trained here, this fantastic gym proves that bigger is not necessarily better. Utilizing every inch of their gym space, the trainer/owners here are efficient and creative, tailoring each individual workout to your needs and growth. A testament to their lasting abilities is the incredibly long tenure of most clients I have met there; they are all either brand new to the gym or have been going regularly for the past five, six or seven years. I plan to be one of those people in a few years. Healthy training for people who want to be healthy.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. It's great for athletes AND non-athletes. Jonathan,Joe,and Stacey are the sweetest! They will make you feel right at home AND kick your butt all at the same time :) What else could you ask for in a trainer?

This is a great place to work out. Small classes. Great instructors. Johnathan always makes everyone feel comfortable and at home. And he will call you out when you start slacking and missing class. Workouts will kick your ass. Definitely what you need if you are serious about getting in shape.

I've belonged to other much bigger gyms in the past, but I have never had the experience that I have had at Arena. My husband and I felt so welcomed by the owners/trainers and felt comfortable right away. They are so personable and really seem to care about helping you get in shape! The classes are great. They are intense, but you get such a good workout and it's motivating to have others doing the same workout with you. Also, the workouts are never exactly the same so it definitely doesn't get boring. The classes honestly go by fast! The gym is also kept very clean and they have clean towels for you to use. Anyway, if you're looking for a smaller scale gym with great people and awesome workouts, this is your place. :)

Go to this gym.
Everyone knows that feeling when they go to the gym. That feeling that people are judging you for being so... out of shape. Not here. The staff makes you feel comfortable but still pushes you to the limit. I've only taken 2 of their classes (kickboxing w/ Joe & Jason & total body conditioning w/ Jonathan) but I really enjoyed them. Not only are they fun, they are also challenging. The trainers really take the time to make sure you're "doing it right". Oh & also... they don't let you do girly pushups.... so now I can actually do a real pushup.. after just a few classes!
Let's just be real though... what REALLY drew me to this gym is the gym dog, Cody. :3 -

I'm the type of exerciser that needs a scheduled appointment to make me show up. Just knowing that there's a class at 9 a.m. doesn't always get me there. I've discovered that working out in a semi-private training session is the best of all worlds for me. I get personal and attentive instruction, socialization and a fit body!
The environment at Arena Fitness is awesome - comfortable, fun and very supportive. I highly recommend it - the trainers and instructors are the best! -

I am elated that I have had the luxury to work out at Arena Fitness for the past year and a half. I cannot express how much I have enjoyed getting my a** kicked by the trainers on a nightly basis. Their guidance and motivation have not only allowed me to meet my weight loss goal but to surpass it, and I have never felt healthier, stronger, or more capable. I would not have been able to master my Master's program without the cathartic release and empowerment I am granted in the Arena.
I initially fell in love with the Kickboxing classes; 45 minutes of cardio and resistance training delivered with the bonus of a cathartic release. Now, I am just as in love with Kickboxing and also take advantage of their Mat Concepts/pilates class and cardio barre-esque Ballet Booty Blast class. I have never been in better shape!
By far the most striking aspect of Arena Fitness is the staff; the knowledgeable and personable trainers easily make you feel like part of the Arena family. Not only do I get an incredible workout, but I also really enjoy the company of the people I'm working out with. What could be better than that?! -

I have been taking classes at Arena for about a month. Some of my favorite classes are Kickboxing, Black Belt Booty, and Zumba. I came in with no prior knowledge but these trainers definitely know what they are doing! They showed me good form and have been super patient. I never got hurt or had joint pain.... but I've had a lot of fun! Feeling fit! Worth every penny!

The trainers at arena have inspired me, helped me to achieve my goals, and provided me with top notch training programs and methods. But more importantly they have created an environment that really inspires me. I see people of all walks of life at Arena that have one thing in common: they all work their hardest no matter what their fitness level is and they have fun doing it. Arena Fitness provides more than an excellent training facility, they provide the perfect environment filled with hard working, friendly people.
Jonathan, Joe, and Stacey, I love you guys! You are excellent trainers and friends. -
Review from John M.
Los Angeles, CA
This place is absolutely incredible! I was about 20 lbs. overweight and came in with both high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Even a flight of stairs was knocking me out of breath!
So I contacted Jonathan (co-owner) and told him I had made a bet with a friend to lose weight and that I had about one-and-a-half months to do so. He was excited and determined to help and has continued to check in with me frequently throughout the process. All the trainers were really pumped up to make sure I reached my goal. I started with what they call "semi-private training"...essentially it's personal training with a ratio of one trainer to two or three clients. Works perfectly for me (and saves money too!). Anyway, as time went on, I started gaining the confidence to join some of their group training classes (Total Body Conditioning and Spartan Training). Those are some of the most intense workouts I've done and, proudly, I can now handle them!!! The folks at Arena are always boosting your confidence. Even many of the clients go out of their way to pat you on the back and encourage you. Amazing community!
Anyway, I reached my goal! And somehow in the process, my motivation has changed. Now it's not about a number (weight), but it's about momentum. I really enjoy going now and keeping up this great progress I've made. I lost my 20 lbs., have built muscle, and equally importantly, have built confidence! The other day I went to the doctor, my blood pressure was WAY down! I'm about to have my cholesterol retested soon and I'm sure it will show great progress as well.
Joe, Stacey, and Jonathan, have all done so much to care and to push me...and now I've not only reached my goal, but am setting new ones! -

Hard to think of anything new to add to the glowing reviews already posted about this great gym - it's truly as terrific as everyone says. The wonderful staff has the professional expertise to back the instruction they provide. The workouts are engaging and challenging and clients are supported in achieving their personal best as their level of fitness increases. No pretentious gym scene here - just really good people benefitting from an exceptional fitness experience.

It's a bizarre feeling to absolutely love going to a gym where you leave wondering whether sitting down the next day is going to be a struggle. Arena is more than a gym and the people that work there are more than trainers. It's a community built on the shoulders of two incredible men who take pride in what they do and how they do it. To call Arena a community is an understatement. From kickboxing to semi-private training, the workouts are never dull and the people are always entertaining and enthusiastic.
I simply love going to Arena. I love everything about it. I might be addicted and could not recommend a better place to workout. I feel lucky to have found this place. Take 1 kickboxing class and you'll know why! -

After having searched all over Los Angeles for 4 years for a no nonsense fitness studio/ kickboxing class, I have FINALLY found an excellent facility where I can workout to my full potential.
These guys are able to achieve the perfect situation for a great workout....affordable prices, free convenient parking, friendly service/clientele, enough personal attention (never too crowded) and ample equipment.
They offer private personal training as well as their signature SEMI-PRIVATE personal training and top notch kickboxing classes amongst other type of classes. The SEMI-PRIVATEs are what's attractive about the studio. You get to work out with one to three more people (sometimes even by yourself if no one else signed up) who may or may not be your same fitness level but you STILL get your best workout from the 45 mins session. They train in a circuit training style and it's fun and never boring. They play great motivating music also.
Whenever I read reviews on Yelp, I always wonder how well the person who is writing knows of what he or she is talking about. So to give you a quick insight: I have been a lover of fitness for over 20 years. I am constantly jumping from gym to gym, trainer to trainer to find the BEST. If anyone was looking for a writer to write the Fitness version of ZAGAT about gyms, personal trainers or fitness studios, I would be the person to go to! I have pretty high standards when it comes to my training and so far, Arena Fitness has been the ONLY studio that can fulfill my requirements.
The kickboxing classes are fantastic. They provide gloves if you don't have any. You get to hit the bags as well as the pads that the trainer would hold up for you. We do drills with the timer and lots of push ups in between. You are guaranteed to get addicted!
What's more is that they are willing to give you a WHOLE WEEK FOR FREE to try out for yourself!!! Nobody does that! Some studios let you try one class out for free but a whole week of unlimited semi-privates as well as classes??? The gyms that do give you a whole week for free do not include any type of training sessions, just mediocre classes and the use of their equipment....and you have no guidance.
All in all, a truly wonderful fitness studio. -

The guys over at Arena aren't just great trainers; they're great people who really care about those who come into their gym. I train personally with a few of them doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu and know them to be exceptional folks who not only love what they do, but love helping people lead fitter, happier, healthier lives.

Arena Fitness is INCREDIBLE! I became addicted to the 45 minute kickboxing classes after ONE class - no joke!
Classes at Arena Fitness are intense, challenging, and fun at the same time. This is actually the first time in a VERY long time I've enjoyed working out, mainly because even if you keep going back to the same class, it's ALWAYS different than the prior time! There is no "routine," and no standardized workouts. This keeps us on our toes (literally and figuratively, at times) and makes it demanding, never repetitious.
Bottom line - CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! You get a week free, and during your free week you can try all the classes and semi-private training sessions. You've got NOTHING to lose (except a few extra pounds) and EVERYTHING to gain! -

I have been training at Arena fitness for over a year now, the staff here is very knowledgeable in every aspect of fitness, from working out to proper diet and rest for maximum results, if you have sustained injuries they can help you learn proper training technics that will be better suited to you. The training here is very personal depending on your needs, and there is also group classes. So if you have been out of it for awhile and you need a lil motivation I advise you get off your ass and head over to Arena fitness!!!!!!!!!!! TEAM BARRAL OSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love you Joe!!! Love ya John!!!!!!!!!!

I started with Arena 2 years ago and I can truly say they've been the healthiest, best years of my life. Aside from the fact that the trainers are wonderful, honest, helpful and flat out fun to work out with, they really do care and spend quality time with you. It doesn't feel like they're just doing their job. Your victory is their victory. Every accomplishment is praised and experienced by the staff. I love these trainers. The classes are challenging and give you the results you want. The staff are always willing to help you make changes to your diet. Because of them, I'm eating healthier than I ever have before. This gym has changed my life forever and I'm grateful to them for helping me get the body I've always wanted.

I have been working out at Arena Fitness for over a year and I absolutely love it! Owners Joe and Jonathan are extremely knowledgeable and personable as is the entire team! The workouts are challenging and constantly vary, which is great for someone who is easily bored. I highly recommend the semi-private training sessions - the most most intense, complete workout one can get in 45 minutes. If weight training is not your thing, the classes are awesome - kickboxing, cardio kick and the Sunday balance class. I highly recommend all of them!
Arena Fitness is not your typical gym. If you are looking for great trainers, awesome clientele, intense, challenging workouts, variety and an all around great atmosphere, this is the place for you! -

Been going to this gym for three years. Owners Jonathan and Joe are great trainers and always have something new and interesting to do. Trail hikes, self defense classes and the best in personal training just touches the surface of this friendly place. Other trainers there each bring their own methods and keep things interesting. My favorite place to spend Thursday evenings!

Review from Aliza L.
Encino, CA
I can honestly and sincerely say that this gym is one of a kind. I have NEVER walked out of Arena feeling unsatisfied whether it be after Jonathan or Joe kick my butt in Kickboxing and Total Body Conditioning or Stacey works every last muscle in Ballet Booty Blast. Arena not only has great classes and semi-private training sessions, but their variety of equally and immensely talented and motivating trainers guarantees a different kind of workout every time you walk in those doors - it never gets boring. Training aside, the atmosphere in this gym is warm and comfortable. It is such a nice community and I never feel judged or out of place while I'm there. Everyone at Arena is so supportive because we are all in there for the same reasons: to get a great sweat, to feel and look healthy, and to start or end our days off on the right note. As I leave for college in a few months, I will definitely miss my home-cooked meals and my family, but I'm still struggling to accept that I have to leave Arena, as I can confidently say that no gym in any part of this country will ever compare. It is truly the best!
