I love Ranjani (Mati of Mati's) but this is the most sincere review I've ever written
I was introduced to Arden Hot Yoga about two and a half weeks ago and it literally changed my life
I'm an athlete always have been, but this is a completely different kind of way to train your body
I've worked out nearly all the ways a human can, and this practice is now a part of my everyday life
Enough talk, join me and you'll see... -

I am experienced with Bikram and have been to many area studios. I like that this place has hardwood floors, but that's it. I went to my first class and during a conversation between the teacher and a few students (during class) I mentioned I was hot (as one is during hot yoga). The teacher informed me that she had a supplement she could sell me and took the time to basically push something she was selling on me. It really rubbed me the wrong way, to the point that I asked for my Groupon to be refunded. Maybe a little thing to some, but I go to yoga to relax, not to hear a sales pitch.

Review from Julie E.
I purchased a LivingSocial deal that gave me access here for one month. Towards the end of my subscription, my life got crazy with a new job and family events, so I was only able to go a few times.
During my first visit, I was nervous. My friend came with me, and she's been coming here for many months. I have done yoga on and off for quite a while, but the idea of all the obnoxious sweating made my head spin before I even walked in the room. Jackie, the owner and my instructor for that first class, made me feel very welcome and comfortable. Yes, I was disgusting at the end, but I also felt great - lighter, with a clear mind.
In subsequent classes I was extremely light headed, despite drinking coconut water like they recommended (for extra electrolytes). I bought some Yoga Fuel (super concentrated electrolyte tablets) at my last class, but I wasn't able to return to give them a try.
There are no showers, so it's definitely a drawback to get in your car just absolutely dripping with sweat. Nor are there lockers, but people put their bags and shoes in little cubbies, and they lock the doors during classes so nothing gets stolen. Overall, this studio is extremely clean and friendly. However, it's definitely very unfriendly to my wallet. I wasn't expecting $20/month like my LivingSocial coupon, but it's $10-$15 per class, depending on what kind of package you prefer, or $125/month. It's just not in my budget right now - or maybe ever. Because of this, I won't be able to return. -

Sixteen months following a back injury (strained piriformis, herniated L5-S1) and following numerous physical therapy and neuromuscular therapy sessions, I've finally started being able to run again. My muscles, ligaments, and tendons, however, were extremely tight -- setting me up for another injury.
I'd gone from running ultramarathons (mostly 50 mile and 50K, with a couple of 100 mile DNF's thrown in for fun) on the trails for the past several years, to not being able to do more than my few minutes of PT. Needless to say, it's been aggravating. I'd grown accustomed to the adrenaline rush from pushing my body to its limits. Even more, I've missed the camaraderie among my fellow ultra-runner friends.
I'd heard about the benefits of hot yoga, and I thought I'd give it a shot. I arrived at Arden Hot Yoga about 20 minutes before the intro class, and Jackie warmly welcomed me to her studio. I explained my injury, what I hoped to get out of hot yoga, and my paranoia about re-injury.
Throughout the introductory class and subsequent sessions, Jackie gave thorough and detailed instructions on the poses, as well as offering me corrections and modifications on my poses to accommodate my needs.
I've also participated in a few of Anita's classes, and she is also helpful, friendly, warm, and eager to help me. Anita herself has 18 marathons under her belt, and she empathizes with my desire to get back out there. She also knows the importance of having me listen to my body and not push too far too quickly.
The structured aspect of hot yoga appeals to me. No matter where you go for a hot yoga class, you'll know it's going to be the same two breathing exercises and 26 poses. There are enough modifications you can do if you're having an off day, and there's enough encouragement from instructors if you're of the mindset to go all out.
It does not take long to see results. I've gone to Arden Hot Yoga six times now in the past three weeks, plus two visits to other studios while on business travel, and the results are astounding. Here are some of the benefits I noticed:
After one class:
- I found that I wanted to treat my body better and eat only good, clean foods
- I was a lot more relaxed
After 2-3 classes:
- My clothes were fitting differently
- My posture improved
- Others were noticing that I was looking a lot more long and lean (I build muscle quickly, but it's usually bulkier looking)
- The relaxed demeanor was pronounced
After 4-6 classes:
- My ability to deal with not-as-skilled/not-as-courteous drivers is better than it's ever been in 40 years, so I'm a lot more chill when arriving wherever I'm going
If you're afraid of the prospect of the heat or humidity, you will definitely want to go to an intro class. Communicate with the instructor before and after class. There are modifications you can make in your poses and with your diet to help you. Don't give up! -
Review from Letie W.
I must admit that even after reading every single review here on Yelp, I was still nervous coming to my first class. I purchased the Living Social special awhile back and figured I should use it. I kept asking myself, what was I thinking prior to purchasing? I hate humidity and I'm stiff as cardboard! But then I realized, aren't those good enough reason of why I SHOULD go?? Heat=loosens muscles=more flexibility (in the long run).
And sure enough, after my first intro class, I feel amazing. Did I get light headed? A little bit. Did I get nauseated? No. Would I do it again? YES! I can't wait to go back!
Cathie, the instructor, was super nice and explained each pose (and showed us..along with modifications) so it was helpful to a beginner as myself. Although I've done yoga in the past (Vinyasa, Restorative, Hatha), knowing proper form in postures in Bikram was very important to me. Very thankful there was an intro class for this very reason as well.
So for anyone a bit timid of going to their first class, I say, don't be. After that first class, you just might find yourself hooked. Bring water. Bring large towel. Bring small towel. And yes, have FUN!Listed in: Yoga-Sacramento

I love the fact that the studio has hardwood floors instead of carpet. It doesn't smell sweaty or anything in the studio.
Everyone is so nice to you. And I love how the teacher sprays peppermint water on you at the end of the class. Refreshing.
Come early because the classes fill up quickly. -
Review from Allie S.
I was so nervous preparing for my first hot yoga experience. I downed water the whole day and decided to hold off on the beer a few days prior to the occasion. I thought it'd be worse actually. Not only did I NOT pass out from the heat (and believe me, it's HOT) but I actually found the heat helpful in deepening my poses.
The folks at Arden Hot Yoga were especially nice, both Michael who taught the class, and the other students. The room was quite small for the amount of students (it was packed, even on the Sunday afternoon that I went). But really, in that heat, you kinda have to accept that you'll be breathing your air/body odor as well as your neighbors. There are plenty of mirrors for concentration and I appreciate that the owners have a set of norms which include only looking at yourself while in practice.
I'd recommend it, especially if they have another super cheap deal like I got on living social. -

I decided to try out Arden Hot Yoga since Living Social had a deal for a great price. I wasn't for sure if I was going to like it and was nerves. I walked out loving it! It's so relaxing and don't think your just going to walk in a room that is really hot cause it isn't like that. They slowly bring up the temperature. I thought the heat wasn't that bad at all. I actually loved it and helped me be able to do the positions better. I also didn't even realize how flexible I was.haha. The only down fall is that it's a little pricey in my eye's( 5 class for $70 dollars seems a bit much for me. Hopefully another good deal comes around cause I would for sure go back:o) BUT if you your looking for Hot Yoga this is the place to go.

I live in San Francisco but come back to Sacramento on weekends overtly to see my family but secretly to get my yoga fix. Thanks Jackie/Arden for delivering the goods!
As far as Bikram studios go, this one smells decent (although a little extra tea tree oil sprayed between sessions wouldn't hurt to tone down the body odor). The crowd is friendly and instructors are very good. Showers and locker room are on the wish list.
I would like to see the instructors be a little more nazi with people that need help/direction (like me!) or people that are inventing their own class along the way (yes, that's you burning man dude doing handstands)... its a wee bit distracting, yo!
Overall, i am pleased with this Arden Hot Yoga, and hope they get tons of business to stick around for a long time. -

West Sacramento, CA
The studio is very clean and nice and their bathroom (which is in the studio) is just the same. It does tend to get a wee bit crowded during the evening hours, so make sure you get there a little bit early to get a prime spot. The teachers are fabulous, helpful, and patient. You don't necessarily have to take the Intro to Bikram class if it's your first time, as there are plenty of people that attend the 90 minute Bikram class as a first timer. Also, the teachers will show you how to do the poses.
I gotta admit. The heat can be intense. So they aren't lying when it is advised to drink plenty of water, especially coconut water for electrolytes and to not eat 2-3 hours before class. For your first time, you will probably get nauseated, may throw up (I did!), and have a headache afterwards. But, try to not let this get to you. Go again and I promise, it will get better. Plus, you'll know not what to do the second time around. -

Arden Hot Yoga is amazing! Not only do they have a great schedule, but all of the teachers are dedicated and helpful. They want to see their students exceed and take time to help improve positions and postures. Al l the staff is friendly and enthusiastic and create a great environment in which to practice and learn. I can not speak highly enough of this studio or the staff.

Awesome place for hot yoga. I'd never done bikram yoga before, just regular yoga, but the instructors make sure you're doing okay if you're new to the studio. They know what they're doing, the place is clean and it's smell free. Plus they spray peppermint water on you at the end of each session. The people who come to the classes are quite respectful of the quiet/zen-ness the times that I've been. The only drawback is the cost at a regular session/membership price and that there's no showers on-site. The no showers doesn't bother me because I just go straight home after the session is over. Overall, the Living Social coupon I got for one month of unlimited classes at $25 was a good deal!

I love this Bikram studio. I love that the studio offers one-hour classes, instead of the usual 90-minutes. It is so great to bring my friends who have never tried Bikram to the one-hour class to get their feet wet. This studio is gorgeous and the owner, Jacqueline and her teachers, especially Anita, are so loving and so supportive, you cannot go wrong.
I am seeing changes in my body. I am getting stronger. I am so happy that this GORGEOUS studio is around the corner from my house.
Don't be put off by the heat. You can do it. All shapes and sizes practice Bikram. I have been to several classes with many students 70-years and older! -

I love this place! This is the second hot yoga studio I have trained at. The instructors do a fabulous job of getting you to "push it to your edge". I also really like how they keep you updated on the temperature and humidity in the room. Other studios will let it get to 113 plus and cook you for 90 minutes. I feel as though I can focus better on my practice when the temp stays below 110 and around 30-40% humidity. Both Anita and Jacqueline have furthered my practice. I highly recommend this studio for seasoned yogi's/yoginis and beginners alike.

I'm doing to the 20 days for $40 and it's my first experience with any yoga at all. The facilities are immaculate even though everybody is sweating like crazy and the instructors explain everything so clearly you can close your eyes and still do the poses correctly. They lent me a mat for the first day and be sure to bring a beach towel to lay on the mat and a small hand towel and some water. Cubbies available and the doors are locked while the class is in session to protect valuables. Great experience!

So, I've never taken a Bikram class prior to two weeks ago, but now I've taken 7 or 8 and I'm really loving the challenge. After the first class I was really sick, but Anita and Jacqueline were so patient and kind that it wasn't SO bad. I've continued to go back and each time, I feel stronger and more optimistic that one day, I will be able to do a standing bow! If you are looking for an easy class, it's definitely not for you. But if you like a challenge and you like to feel your muscles shifting and stretching and strengthening, you should come check it out!
Like everyone else has mentioned, it's brand new and it's really a lovely space. -

AMAZING!!! This place is so clean and does not have the smell of dirty feet. The last hot yoga place I went to had this horrible dirty feet smell. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The teacher made a funny comment about how she was 60 and I was thinking (I'm sure I wasn't the only one) to myself..."WOW! Ok..If this is what it takes to look that great at 60...Sign me up for the rest of my life!!!!" There was such great energy in the class and I felt like I received a great workout and my mind was calm. I loved it and can't wait to go back! Thank you Arden Hot Yoga for opening your doors!!!

Its a lovely, clean, nice smelling studio with hardwood floors and filtered hot air. The only thing that I could not believe my ears was when one of the instructors shared with a client that she listened to Savage Nation on the radio. It was extremely off putting.

I took my first yoga classes at Arden Hot Yoga 3-4 months ago and I became quickly hooked! The instructors had a big part in continuing my practice. They helped me really grasp and understand the art of Bikram Yoga. Along with an extremely knowledgeable and supportive staff Arden Hot Yoga's studio is a dream to practice in. Extremely clean and provides a tranquil atmosphere perfect for meditation thorough-out your practice.
I really appreciated Arden Hot Yoga and the instructors after having a horrible experience practicing at a different studio. The studio was extremely unclean. The odor was over whelming and impeded on my practice. Worst of all my sister came with me for her first practice and never received any instruction (after letting the instructor know it was her first practice).
Arden Hot Yoga has a very welcoming atmosphere (the instructors make it important to introduce themselves and know your name). The practicing space is clean, tranquil, and holds the proper temperature. Most importantly you feel like you can get into your practice and have the best instructors to push you to your limit or to help introduce you to your first practice and make you comfortable and want to come back!!
I highly recommended this studio and the wonderful instructors. Do sign-up for classes ahead of time as they do fill up quickly! -

if you're looking to try Bikram yoga, and have no idea where to go,
check out Yoga Loka Fit! super friendly staff/instructors, brand new and clean studio with hard wood floors, and fresh oxygen pumped in- not recycled air. there's 2 separate changing rooms set up for men and women with a bathroom inside the studio. they have an intro special of 20 days for $40 - an excellent way to get into the rhythm of Bikram.
if you're new to Bikram and are not in the habit of drinking LOTS of water on a daily basis, please please please get in the habit at least a week before you start practicing. i can't say enough how important it is to be hydrated (rule of thumb is we should drink half our body weight in ounces- crazy but so beneficial). the studio has 1.5 L bottles to purchase as well as towels and mats to rent
yes you will get dizzy/nauseous/feel a little sick when first starting Bikram, but stick with it! after a few classes your body acclimates to the temperature. to avoid soreness from kicking your butt, go to class for 3 days in a row if you can and let your body respond to the asanas (poses)
i can't say enough how much i enjoy practicing at Yoga Loka Fit, look forward to class every time, and enjoy the 90 minutes of endorphins.
P.S. 11.18.11
i 100% recommend trying Yogafuel supplements, if you're serious about Bikram yoga. i'm not a distributor, part owner, or get commission by saying their supplements changed my practice for the good. try a sample pack and take all 3 pills with 12-16 oz of water 45 minutes before class starts. my feet no longer cramp up, i'm not getting dizzy like i spun around a bajillion times, and definitely don't feel like the teacher is choking the air out of me. just try them!!!Listed in: Get Up, Get Out, Get Fit

Arden Hot Yoga is by far the best hot yoga studio I have been to! I've moved out of Sacramento and have tried three other studios since leaving, and unfortunately none of them are even close to Arden. The studio is very clean and the staff is always very welcoming and encouraging. While every other studio I have been to has had gross carpeted floors that smell horribly, Arden Hot Yoga has wood floors that are cleaned very regularly, and the studio never smells, even if you go in RIGHT after the previous class. I cannot explain how much of a difference that makes! In addition to this, the hand towels are free to use (instead of having to rent them!) and the studio is locked during class so that you can practice without worrying about whats happening to your stuff outside. Another great thing is the online scheduling system they use which makes it really easy to buy and sign up for classes. I'm so glad I got to start my yoga practice here, because I'm sure if I had gone to another place, I would not have wanted to continue.

Honestly, this place is great. It's by far my favorite studio in the greater Sacramento area--including Folsom and Roseville. It's cozy, the staff is friendly and helpful and the temperature is very consistent. It's not intimidating or overly strict like other locations, but their verbal instructions re intricacies of various postures are really really good. For some inexplicable reason, this is the only studio in town where I don't fall out of the postures--everybody seems to stick here. It has no unpleasant odor b/c of the hardfloors (unlike the carpeted studio across town that reeks). Normally, I gravitate towards one instructor at a studio, but I've been to 3 classes here with three different instructors and they are all great. Just don't plan on showering there.

Sacramento, CA
This studio offers hot Bikram style yoga in the traditional 90 minute classes as well as shorter 60 minute classes and a dance/yoga class which I have not yet tried. The studio is located in the Arden area, near Whole Foods. It is a great location for the Arden area crowd. I love love love the classes and the instructors are great too. The heat is tough to get used to but PLEASE if you try it don't quit after the 1st class. Go to at least 4 classes before you decide it's not for you. The heat takes time to get used to. Just try to stay in the room- you can do it! 60 minute classes are great for beginners and Jackie will help teach you the proper way to do the poses. That really helps when you take a 90 minute class.
