AMBIANCE
Upscale lounge/bar, without the upscale prices.
DRINKS
Last time here, I had the margarita. It tasted good and it was strong. Only $6 during happy hour!
CROWD
Hit or miss, sometimes it's dead, sometimes there's a good crowd. Like a regular bar.. Sometime's there's some cute girls to chat up, sometimes not. I wouldn't bank on it though, for that, Tonic East up the block and across the street is a safer bet.
But a very good place to just come with your friends and just chill or to hold an event.
SERVICE
I've always found the bartenders here to be quick and attentive. They'll keep an eye on you to make sure you get a drink or water if you need it. -

this spot is a win win....
my review is based on a weekend night -- late night party/dance spot....
very relaxed and easy going.. fills up fast.... --
definitely lots of people enjoying dinner before heading somewhere else and then the flip is switched and the energy changes....
great music -- mostly top 40 with hip hop here and there... oldies but goodies -- Prince. MJ and of course a little Whitney!
-- surprisingly CHEAP DRINKS here! for NYC... my bar tab was a little over $40 including tax.. for 3 top shelf cocktails, one house cocktail, and a beer on tap..
who can beat that!????????????????????? -- i did try a few hot wings.. and spinach dip.... which were good...
-- this is a great place to throw a private event or party, as the staff was extremely accommodating....
-- very low key... but high energy and a solid choice! -- no real dress code, (sneakers are fine..) and best of all -- no cover! -

I came back here for Sunday brunch and found the food to be poor, the service to be surly and the chairs to look exceptionally beat-up. I deducted only one star because this was St. Patrick's Day wkend so I'd understand if the staff was just exhausted from the days before and am willing to give it another try.
One of my visiting friends said this was the only bad meal I had ever taken them to. C'mon, Arctica! I had a perfect record.Listed in: Murray Hill and Kip's Bay

Went it lunch with my coworker. It's March madness so everywhere else was super packed but for some odd reason Arctic was a nice oasis we found.
They have couches in the back - a little awkward for dining but comfy regardless.
Lunch special is around $9 - with your choice of salad, sandwich burger etc. Pretty standard menu. I got the salmon BLT - I enjoyed everything but the fact that they but them inside a cheap muffins really boggles me. Comes with salad and soup. Portion is perfect for lunch.
My coworker got a turkey burger (don't ask me why) and he could only eat half of it (the texture didn't sit well with him) but he devoured the sweet potato fries so I guess they did them right.
Not the kind of place I'd come back to for food - but will keep in mind for HH. -

Planned a friend's birthday party here and the managers were really friendly and accommodating. The space isn't anything fancy - just a bar with an extra back area so we stayed there most of the time. Decent music, no dancing really. And they will kick you out if you pass out there...

The pluses: Extremely friendly bartenders and staff. Sizable bar. It's got plenty of TVs. Liquor and beer selections are great. Has some outside seating.
Downsides are: bad wine selection. Food is so so at best.
In summary, come here for a drink but don't dine here. -
Review from Alina G.
I really like Artica. Before 7pm or so, its very laid back and there aren't too many people. This is perfect for me because there's nothing I enjoy more than some light afternoon drinking. Their food menu is rather delicious. Definitely order their 3 cheese quesadilla platter if you, well, like cheese. You won't regret this. On Tuesdays (pretty sure its Tuesdays, can't recall at the moment), they have a fantastic special for $2 sliders. There is a special for every day so make sure you check what is offered on the day you are there.
Their happy hour drinks are great! For only $6, the super nice bartenders make beauty happen. My friend always gets the Watermelon-tini and I am quite partial to the Moscow Mule myself. That and a $4 beer selection makes for a great time.
Now this is just before the evening, once the night strikes this place is transformed! No more laid back fun, its now crawling with folks so if you come later its near impossible to get a seat. There more space in the back and there is a party room downstairs but I usually don't come on the weekends (which is when the room is open).
There's also a little patio type area in front of the restaurant where you can take your drink and have a smoke.Listed in: Outdoor seating / Roof decks, Kips Baying

Nice bar for parties or groups. Planned and attended a couple of events at Arctica. No charge to reserve a space and complimentary appetizers when you bring at least 15 people. Parties usually go all night because Happy Hour lasts until midnight! 50% chance that you get 2 for 1 drinks. Flip a coin, guess right, and 2nd drink is on the house.
It doesn't really matter where you are in the bar (front, back, basement) because each section has its own bar area. Front of the bar has bar stools. Basement level has a pool table. Back of the bar has leather lounge chairs.
The bartenders are friendly (Ann). Lots of big screen TVs to catch a game. The music isn't so loud where you have to shout in each other's ear. The crowd is a little more upscale, but not snobs. Overall, a very cool place to chill that has something for everyone. -
Review from Hank C.
Actually a deeper location than I expected from the outside, and not really well-labeled as a bar, it looked more like a restaurant sign. The bar up front is long and there's a second to the right in the back.
There's a nice set of TVs in the back, and more - oyster & wine special on Tuesday, too. Lightly staffed the one weeknight a few of us went - one bartender for both open bars, so that took a while to get drinks and food. -

Came here with a few friends to watch a football game...
The atmosphere was relaxed and let me tell you about the sofa chairs..... soooo comfy... like watching the game at home! Definitely a place where you can relax with friends.
The food on the other hand was just okay... we had a sampler that included different sliders and tacos... the only thing that was enjoyable was the lamb slider that was included in the bunch. Everything else was just.... ehh....
so if you are looking to just chill and have a few drinks this is the place to be. -

Work was rough this week and I needed to let off some steam. My friend, Shelley suggested going to Arctica. I had heard of it, but had never been there. When I go to a new club I never know what to wear. Sometimes I buy a whole new outfit to go out.
Shelley told me not to worry. There were a lot of hipsters there and I should just look cute.
I was pretty impressed when I got there. The security guy thought we were with some big group of girls so we just followed them in.
We actually crashed their party. Well, not really a few of the guys in the group invited us and bought us some drinks. What more could a girl want? -

Atmosphere: This place is really cute for brunch. There is a fireplace in the back, although it wasn't turned on and it was a bit cold :( The seats are really comfy and it felt like a little den. There was no wait which was awesome and rare for a Sunday afternoon brunch spot.
Food: I had the veggie burger which was mehhhh. I've had better. The fries were okay. They don't have soymilk for coffee. The food was subpar but they do give a free mimosa, bloody mary or draft with a brunch entrée!
Service: The waitress was super nice and attentive.
I would come back for the atmosphere and service, not so much for the food.. -

As being THE buckeye bar that my ohio friends and i go to, it's hard to complain.
Wes, the bartender, is always there to remember your fav order and for an extra buckeye shot for a win.
Food is good, a little too high-class for being a pub, but always delish. -

Review from Jordan J.
I've been to Arctica three times. The first time was with a decent sized group for a party. Our "specials" included $6 Buds. The third time, there was supposed to be a pint night featuring several beers from Pretty Things. When I got here, there were only 2 Pretty Things beers listed on tap. When I asked, they actually only had 1 of them. And none of the bartenders that I talked to had any idea about whether or not there was even an event going on. The second time wasn't awful, but certainly didn't do anything that impressed me.
Arctica is having an identity crisis, unable to decide whether it's a trendy-ish place sporting a decent craft beer list and solid drinks, or a standard Murray Hill post-college bro bar. It seems like more of the latter to me.Listed in: Bips Kay/Hurray Mill

Went here for a coworkers going away party. This place is pretty chill. They offered great happy hour specials. The drinks were pretty strong. I was told they have an ice bar in the basement but it was closed off that night.

If you're looking for a space to host an event, this is it! Ronan took complete care of what I was looking to do and did it professionally without any problems. Everything we wanted to do was open to us and nothing was asked for on our end. Can't beat that!
Had the entire downstairs Ice Bar for our party with Happy Hour prices 'til MIDNIGHT! Was able to run our own slideshow, a promo DVD, dedicated sound system to run our own tunes & received 2 platters of appetizers for FREE!
I will definitely be coming back and recommend Arctica to all my friends. -
Review from John C.
Plenty of tv screens to catch a game. Cocktails and hard liquor $8.50 on Tues night for me. Waitress was very nice. Rather narrow place walking in but in the back has 2 separate seating areas and one area with bar stools and tables across from the mini bar.
Not crowded at all on weeknights. Too bad happy hour ends early. -

Well, I don't know why I've taken off two stars considering I used to frequent this place till a few months ago.
The ambiance is ehh, the drinks are good-ish, the lighting is bad and dingy (good for winter if you know what I mean), but the music is GREAT.
I love to dance (alcohol or not) and great music for me just makes my night. Lots of hip-hop, R&B , new rap and sometimes they add in a Bhangra number or two. So for all the dancers, this place is a treat. Make sure to go in a group, and go there after a couple of drinks to enjoy the music (there is a lower level which is usually less crowded and a back area with tables you can enjoy). The plus- it has 3 bars to call for drinks-- one in the lower level and two on top. so ENJOYListed in: Bars/Lounges

Mediocre food and weak cocktails. Service was decent and they seem to have plenty of tables. They have a back terrace which might be nice during warm weather.

Went to this bar right before christmas for a meet up group. The bar was packed I guess that had something to do with the happy hour until 12. The cocktails were good especially the strawberry breeze, the watermelon tini was a bit to watermelony for me. i tried the sliders which were really good! great atmosphere will be back!

Scene: A roomy place, great for groups of people to drink on any night. I'm actually giving this place an extra star merely based on the environment. There are two huge bars. The one towards the back is usually reserved for private parties, so this place is great for birthdays. There are also many extra cushioned brown leather chairs for seating.
Drinks: They are not too costly and very tasty. During happy hours, you can order two drinks and flip a coin. If you called the right side, your second drink is on the house. If you lose, then you still have to pay for the drinks. It's not that bad of a risk though.
Dinner: Apart from the drinks and scenery, the food is not that great. I ordered roasted chicken with potatoes. It isn't a dish that is difficult to mess up, yet the cook managed to do so. The meal was miserably bland, and the potatoes were way too dry. For such a horrible tasting dinner, the price was unreasonably high.
Overall, this place is a great "go-to" for happy hours after work or last minute drink-grabbing with friends. Just make sure that you eat before though. -
Review from Suzi G.
A little pricey but reliably fresh and tasty malpeques since I've been a patron. $1 oysters on Tuesdays which I've yet to take advantage of. Fun flip the coin idea for Thursdays, but I'm afraid to see what the crowds like then. Great tables outside for when the weathers nice and the bartenders are knowledgable and nice to look at ;). Great beer selection and nice furniture... Plenty of TV's for sports fans. Habanero mussels were delicious but made with jalapenos when we had them.... Promising menu and will continue to try other items next time I go.

I find myself coming to this place a lot. and I MEAN A LOT. I went here Thursday night for some babes and beverages, the old BnB. There was this 5' 1'' man child with a "professional" camera taking photos of the bartenders. One of the most bizarre things I have ever witnessed. The bartender that works here is not the most feminine chick either. Anyways I feel like it was a Thursday night I do not want to be a part of again anytime soon. If you want a small photographer up in your grill, this might be the joint for you.

Impressive beer selection for a sport's bar with semi-reasonable prices...
My Leffe blond draft was $7. there were plenty of tv's showing college football, service was speedy at the main floor bar (not so much at the upper level), and staff was friendly enough. I don't get the arctic theme thing here though...there's some signs with icicles on them and all but it's basically the decor of a cozy sports bar...Seems kinda schizo to me.
I don't have much else to say about this place other than it's definitely a decent option if you happen to find yourself kinda unlucky and in the MH area. -
Review from Diane D.
This is a nice place. I came on a Monday at around 6:30 and it was pretty empty. Sat at the bar and was served right away. The bartender was really chill and fun to talk to as I waited for my friend.
When I ordered bar apps they came right away and were really yummy. It's got a nice decor and I told a few more friends that we should come back for happy hour but being that it's in Murray Hill I'd never ever come on a weekend. -

This used to be my cohort's tired and true place to go after class. It's has a nice bar and dining seating. The service is quick and there's always sports on the screens. The prices are "NY" prices- go for happy hour specials. They also make pretty decent bar food!
The customers are pretty diverse, but I think they're all nice, well kept people (e.g. young college kids - yuppies). Not too much mingling though, or maybe it's because I'm not cute enough. -

I love this place. I came here around 9pm on a Friday night and had no problem getting a bar table for 8. The atmosphere was a bit upscale and chill. It's a little above your average pub. Artica was crowded to the perfect level - certainly not overbearing which is rare for a fun bar on weekend night. The music was top 40 mixed with some old school beats and kept the place very much alive. I didn't get a chance to check out the ice bar downstairs because of a private party. I'll be sure to check it out next time!

We have our friend secret santa here every year.... it was an old haunt when some friends all lived in the 'hood. Tony the bouncer is fantastic, Roland(sp?) the owner is awesome and always there. The prices are great, I mean we drank and opened presents for 3 hours and it was about $35 a person (that includes our tip). Love.

Review from Eve P.
The chrome exterior of Arctica made me think this place was a little too space age-y for me, but it was misleading. Went for happy hour, and the inside was really cozy and friendly feeling to me. There's even a little fire place at the front...perfect for a Fall happy hour.
Happy hour prices are pretty standard - $4 to $5 for beer, $6 options for wine and cocktails. It was crowded enough to feel festive, but not cramped at all. Our waitress was super friendly - very warm, laidback, not pushy at all and didn't rush us even though we didn't order tons of drinks or any food.
Pleasant and fun and relaxing, what a happy hour should be - I'd definitely go back. -

I had my "got a new job" party here and it worked out great! I read online that they gave you a free app platter if you brought at least 15 people so I called ahead to ensure that I would, in fact, be receiving said platter! There is an awesome basement with a full bar and pool table and tables and my group was the first one down there... I ended up having more than 30 people... I should have tried to finagle 2 app platters. Anyway they had to kick us out at 9:15 for a private party (we could have just moved upstairs but the night was young) but we had a great time at Arctica! Awesome happy hour too!

highly highly recommend this place if u need a place to host an event. the ice bar downstairs is fantastic and can fit 50 comfortably and even more! There are tv screens available for your slideshows, a place to hang up your banner, mic's to be used, free food appetizers and drink specials all night. the manager james that i worked with was very professional and very easy going. They were very attentive when things were happening (ie turning off music when announcements were made, sending a second bartender down to work the crowd)
this place requires no bar minimum so i didn't have to stress about meeting that and could focus my efforts on fundraising through other means!
totally coming back!!! =)1 Previous Review: Show all »

Went here for a friend of a friend's birthday (Kristin M.? Maybe...) It was pretty packed, but wasn't too hard to get to the bar. Which on reflection was somewhat unfortunate for me and my friend Ari because I think we had about 12 drinks in the space of an hour and let me tell you, two little kiddies did not feel so bright and bushy-tailed the next day.
The crowd did seem fairly young, fresh out of college-types (or maybe I'm getting old). Good selection of classics and cheesy tunes though I wish the DJ hadn't blown through Michael Jackson so quickly - not that there was a ton of room to get my Thriller on anyways.
I noticed they also have quite a few TVs and a decent amount of seating so I'd imagine if this is your hood, it would be worth hitting up during the day for a game and some grub. -

Arctica is one of the few solid bars in this area. I always hit it up during my Whiskey River/Black Bear runs, luckily I can still pull of a t-shirt at Arctica.
Know how certain bars attract certain kinds of people? This bar has the good kind and I've always had great experiences.
Stylish decor, friendly service and tables in the back. It's actually 3 bars in one. There's a long wooden bar when you first walk in. If you keep walking back, there are tables and they've just added an additional bar back there. Downstairs there is another smaller bar complete with a pool table and even funkier decor. -

I really like this place. The bartenders are always friendly, Tony the bouncer always has something funny to say and the owner/manager Ronin is a doll.
Best friend Bates and I come here mostly for the downstairs, which has a pool table (in decent condition no less) and a jukebox. I have been trying to teach her to play pool and was consistently beating her (only fair since she regularly schools me at skee ball) but she is learning, and beat me for the first time last night! (thankfully I made a comeback the next game, she can't have pool and skee, that's just not fair)
All in all, this place is usually pleasantly devoid of the Murray Hill vibe (oh you know what I'm talking about), the bouncers are friendly, the bartenders friendly, cute and good with buy back rounds.
I have only had the food a few times, and though it is slightly more exotic bar fare, it's hit or miss, but the chairs are comfy!
ps- the papertowels in the bathroom are under the sink (it took me a few minutes so I thought I'd share :) -
