I love their burgers, onion pieces (super greasy but better than the rings), and homemade milkshakes!    The very basic Attu burger is my favorite.   They season the meat just right and keep it fresh.   The fish sandwich would be my second choice but still so tasty.   Their condiments bar with extra pickles (spicy if you like), onions, and other items is a bonus.

AR has a great outdoor picnic area on warm days by the creek.   You may even see salmon swimming upstream while you dine.   But the inside can be just as entertaining with all their loyal customer pictures and history.  Their fireplace is great on cold days.  Very Alaksan -- very cool.

Their other location, actually on Arctic, does have a drive-thru.  Either place give your order time to be cooked and assembled.   This is semi-fast food.   For a half hour lunch break it is an extremely tight squeeze.

Note:  AR only accepts CASH as payment - no exceptions.   ATM next door at the Chevron station with a fee of course.

We went here a few times and I must say I was not all that impressed. I think everyone should go once and experience the decor, but as far as the food.... I think I will pass. I do like the toppings bar, the fresh salsa is really good.
I am not amused with the CASH ONLY policy. Really? I thought Alaska was still the United States and they don't tale credit or debit? really?
And the" Know what you want before you get in the line" is crazy too because I had questions the first time and they acted crazy.  The question was ...
Are the burgers really big? should we split one between us? she said: "You would have to decide  that when you get your order"  Somebody slept through the customer service class I see.
I like the fireplace, I like the photos on the walls, I like the stream outside nice to sit outside in the summer.
I do not like the texture of the meat..... is it moose? I know they serve several kinds of burgers. I typically stayed with the Salmon after tasting the "cheeseburger" the first time.

Bottom line.... Try it but take CASH and go ahead and memorize the menu before you get in line.

    Ambiance:
Alaskan Casual. Expect to see everything from bunny boots to gucci handbags. (probably a knock-off) I sat by the window on the creek side and watched the ducks play. five stars for the ambiance.

    Staff:
Only employee i seen was the cashier. She did not seem to be in a good mood.

    Food:
I felt like having a two burger lunch, so I ordered the Bacon Burger and the American Burger. Wow! these burgers hit the spot. Juicy, with a great taste. The pickle bar is a great feature. The amount of bacon was perfect. Both of these burgers will be added to my Darn Good Burger list.

    Prices: Great
Bacon Burger, American Burger and a soda: 14.00

I will definitely return to try more of the burgers and chili bowl that I seen another customer enjoying.

This is a really old establishment. The interior is pretty Alaskan with long time customers' pictures adorning the walls.

This place is pretty decent for burger, but I tend to burp it up for hours afterward which is kind of gross. You order the burger by itself and can order fries or onion rings. You don't want a burger? Get a fish, or chicken, or grilled cheese sandwich. Pretty easy on the wallet for three people with coffee, sandwiches, and 2 fries for about $17.

One thing to note is this place is cash only, and you don't tip the cashiers.

This place is without a doubt the best place to get a burger in Anchorage. I would be happy to give them 5 stars if only they took credit cards. I asked the person behind the counter and they said that the owner wants to keep it old school. That doesn't make good business sense to me, but he has the burgers down to a science. Lunch is fast too. If you want to hurry and get some food for lunch, I can't think of a better place. The location is great to get in and our from any part of the city as well. Even if you are a tourist and new to the area, this place is a must try.

I love a good, old-fashioned American cheeseburger.  To me, it is the ultimate in comfort food.

I love this location, due to it being situated next to Campbell Creek.  They have tables and benches arranged outside in the summer time so you can enjoy the creek while eating some of the best burgers in town.

I also love that old-timey, Alaskan atmosphere.  This location is a log cabin-like structure and the inside walls sports a lot of old, Alaskan memorabilia.  I've lived here all my life and I do not get the "tourist trap" feeling here, certainly not in the way some of the shops downtown have turned into real tourist traps.

Their food here is great also, fresh and made-to-order.  The menu is pretty extensive, specilizing in burgers, but also a number of other sandwiches and food items.  Try their homemade onion rings for a treat!  I also LOVE their milkshakes made with real vanilla soft serve ice cream.  My favorite is chocolate, but my husband like the blackberry milkshake.

Arctic Roadrunner is an Alaskan mainstay and I hope to have many, many more opportunities to go here.

Great burgers shakes and atmosphere. Will definitely return.  Definitely a place for locals.  Awesome place to sit outside with a water view when it's warm enough.  Just a great place overall.

Excellent burger, great shake, and crazy Alaskan decor.  What more could a tourist ask for?  Funny thing though, most of the people eating here were not tourists.  I had lunch at the location on Old Seward Highway and we were not disappointed.  One cheeseburger, two salmon burgers, one large order of homemade onion rings, and one small peanut butter shake and we were waddling out of the restaurant fully satisfied and ready for a nap.  The burger was great, and my folks gave the salmon burgers a thumbs-up too. I think we all thought the homemade onion rings (hand breaded and pan fried) were the best thing we had but everything was really good.

I don't know what all the whining is about, but yes, this is a cash only place.

BONUS:  There's all kinds of crazy pictures of customers and their families, posters from the 1980s about "You Know You're In Trouble When ...", and moose heads all over the walls. There's also a fireplace in the restaurant and outdoor creek-front seating -- both weather depending.

DOUBLE BONUS:  There was this crazy 20-something half-rockabilly, style-confused couple eating lunch at the same time we were.  It was funny to see how badly they pulled off this already questionable California trend. Actually, the people watching here was pretty good. Although I'm not about to start making fun of Bubba because Bubba's probably packing.

One of the top five burgers in town! Old fashioned bugers, with a fantastic relish bar to add what ever you like as much as you like. The fireplace is very nice in the winter and the atmosphere is true Alaska. Be ready to go down memory lane with hundreds of photos and storys of true sourdough Alaskans. Come hungry and bring cash! They don't take credit cards.

Just dropped by there as errands took me to that side of town.  I had a bacon cheeseburger and regular fries and a tap water ($8.80) and took it all down to eat creekside (Campbell Creek).  The burger was excellent and the fries were solid.  Highly recommend eating at this (the flagship) location and eating outside by the creek on a nice sunny Alaskan summer day!

Arctic Roadrunner is the best burger I've had in town.  The fries and rings are pretty good, and its worth it to get a shake.
Local restaurant, with a real Alaskan spirit.  It's always a treat to sit down and enjoy a bite here.

Knick-knacks on the wall, lots of photos of anyone and everyone, delicious burger, fastest take-out. It was snowing so all I could do was gaze at the outdoor seating and imagine eating there in the summer by the creek. The burgers range from basic to fun Mexican style- meaty and delicious. The fries are potatoes at their best and the shakes thick and oh so creamy. I am glad I followed advice and made the pilgrimage. Portions are larger than the icky McD's and prices about the same. If I lived in Anchorage I think that this place would be dangerous for me.

I have heard many a tale about this fantastic and very nostalgic burger restaurant. It has great Alaskan atmosphere, it is cheap, and the food is top notch. The burgers are simply delicious, with seasoned meat and tons of exotic condiments to make them even more dazzling. There is not table service, you order right up at the counter but it blows any "fast food" franchise out of the water. Great decor, nice location, easy parking, very good sloppy old school burgers.

Can you say tourist trap? Worse than blah burgers. Totally not worth the detour just for the mascot of a roadrunner in snowshoes. Wouldn't go back. Ever.

This long time Alaskan burger joint has been serving the locals since the 1960's.  Their burgers and hand made shakes are pretty good but the real reason to visit this place is the many photos on every inch of the walls.  Each photo represents a story of the many people that have worked and lived in the last frontier.
