5 stars for great management, clean living, prompt service and quiet. I lived here in 2007 and it was great. The package service they provided is awesome and a definite plus.

    Good Job Archstone!!!

The leasing agent "T" was great and nice.

We decided to live on the pet side, which i guess can be a big mistake if your a single small family. Also young, due to everyone else that does live on the pet side is anal.

Not everyone picks up after their dog.

You will probably never know your neighbors even if you tried, and We have!

The guard is grumpy and doesn't care most of the time.

The maintenance on on the ground  sucks. They seem to just go over the same area.

when we moved out, we heard that they take all your deposit. Which we already expected but we actually got a refund back!

Oh and the maintenance people are really nice, Thanks Jose!

The archstone app for iphone is a great tool if your have that phone

I just moved out after living there for several years, and only because I got a house, not because I didn't like it there.  I loved it there.

I thought everyone else did until I saw some negative reviews.  Don't pay attention to them, if you read between the lines on each on them, they're the kind of people that buy a house near an airport and then complain about airplane noise.  You live next to a road and complain about trucks?  Seriously?  Maybe you should have thought about that, just a thought.  You thought you could live in San Diego for years and years and never have your rent go up?  I'm sure your increase in pay was more than a few percentage points...  And if you can't find parking in Archstone, you probably shouldn't be driving.  I NEVER had to park on the street, I actually looked for an empty spot.  Wow, some people are funny....

Anyway, forget about them...  The place is awesome.  If there is a problem with anything, the staff have always responded very promptly and corrected the situation, unless you are an idiot and complained that you didn't have 5 parking spots to yourself (true story).  Even then the staff is very courteous and helps you understand their policy.

You can't beat being that close to so many good places to eat and shop.  So between the staff, the grounds, the buildings, the maintenance, and the close proximity to shopping/eating/drinking, Archstone Mission Valley is awesome.

We are on a top floor in a 1 bedroom plus den. If the rent wasn't being raised on us at the end of our lease, we would continue to live here. It gets a three star because of maintenance issues, neighbor issues, corporate issues and security problems.

Pros: Front staff is great, grounds are nice, amenities are great and our floor plan is amazing.

Our apartment is located on the west side of the complex so parking is never a problem. Guest parking can be tricky after 7pm. The floor plan is great. We have been told by the staff and many people who live here that this floor plan is the best. We have the biggest kitchen with tons of counter space and great cabinet space. The den is a great place to keep some extra furniture. It also works great for visitors.

We are close to the pool which is an upside and a down side. We've had a few people get into the pool at 6am in the morning on a Tuesday, at 3am on a Monday and other random hours when the pool is closed. The problem is that the pool area is open all the time to give access to the gym. Security has never answered their phone and we have called many times. Not trying to generalize, but many of the noise problems are foreigners here for school or living. They are on "vacation" and act like it all of the time.

*Cons:* Neighbors are not neighborly. It is rare if someone looks you in the eye when you try to say hello. There are a great number of smokers of cigarettes and marijuana. It wafts into our apartment at all times. It wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't happening 4, 5, 15 times a day. Smokers also like to frequent the pool area. Constantly lighting up. It is also rare if people actually clean up after themselves. The BBQs are nice, but after large parties they are a mess. Also, the gates around the apartment are for looks. Frequently stuck open or broken and open for business hours durning the day because of the leasing offices location.

The front staff has been great to us. Be respectful and they will be in return. First getting us into the apartment was a little bumpy but they took care of it. They've handled the little problems as well. Most of the small problems happened early in the lease. Non-working keys, broken windows, etc. The apartment wasn't handed over in perfect condition, but we made sure to keep notes and pictures. They've started good programs here like frogs fitness boot camp and happy hours across the way.

Location is great. Walking distance to all of the restaurants in Fenton Plaza: IHOP, La Playa, Oggies, Subway, Luna Grill, Islands, etc. Get a Costco membership it's worth it.

I recommend living here, but be selective about the apartments. We made sure to stay away from any main streets and any areas we thought could be problem areas.

I lived at Archstone MV for 2 years and loved my 2B/2B apartment (had to move for work). It was ground level, which at first I was concerned with, but NEVER had a problem or felt scared. There was always a security guard walking around, which was nice when getting home late. We also had a garage which is really rare in an apartment community, so that was awesome to park of of our cars in there and use it for some storage space. I also felt there was plenty of guest parking. I never ran into an issue, but there is always street parking if it is crowded.

There are two pools! Awesome :) We sometimes had bbq's on the provided grills, but if we weren't somebody else was. I lived near the smaller pool and gym, and neither seemed to ever get too crowded considering how large the building is.

The location in MV is nice because its very central. You are really close to all freeways, so it just takes a few minutes to hop on and there is a trolley stop a few steps away too.

You shouldn't have any doubts about renting here. Now that I think about this, I love that they also had the online application process. It made it really convenient once we decided thats where we wanted to be and approved you right on the spot.

Hope this helps. Overall, this is a huge complex you're living in, so you can't pretend that you live in a duplex and there is never be noise. For the size of the community, I think they do a great job at controlling all that goes on, and no, noise was not an issue for us.

    Update:
I've now moved out and did have some less than pleasant experiences at Archstone in the year I lived there. There were a few burglaries, one huge fire in the canyon right by our window, a huge water heater/wall/carpet fiasco that was handled terribly! I missed over a week of work and had loud worker men in my bedroom for days on end. They tracked disgusting footprints all over our carpet. I wrote a long wordy letter, which was ignored.  I made a comment to the lady who did our walk through and she said said "OHH I remember your letter" consequently.... they waived our move-out charges for the inconvenience, which was nice. I really didn't get much out of it because I caused no damage. My roommates cat left some nasty odor/carpet patching issues so she should feel grateful. The TV's on the gym equipment were broken ALL THE TIME, and the gates were left open (broken) so random people got in. Being on the bottom floor was creepy, but overall the living environment was nice. We also had a neighbor above us who played very loud electric guitar at all hours of the day/night. I worked from home so this was a complete nuisance.
Oh yeah, the dryer started leaving weird burn/rust marks on our clothes toward the end of our lease.... thanks for the ruined clothes Archstone.

After living downtown for almost year, which I completely hated, I made sure to find an apartment I would really love.  My boyfriend and I have been in Archstone for about 6 months already and have no complaints thus far.  Oh wait, I take that back -- sometimes the people in the office "can't find" my package so when I go back there with them, it's right there.  Can't find or lazy to look?  And if I could make one change to the apartment, however, it'd be to have a bigger kitchen with more cabinet space.  Other than that, everything is cool.  I'd definitely recommend Archstone to anyone looking for a nice place to live.

I have lived in many apartments over the years and this, by far, has been the worst experience.  My fiance and I live in a 2 bed/2 bath with attached garage.  At first, we loved living here.  It was convenient, seemed safe, nice area, etc.  Now, after living here about 20 months, we are counting the DAYS until our lease is up.  Now, if we come home after 7pm we probably will not find parking anywhere near our actual building.  If we come home after 9pm, there is a chance we have to park on the street.  We are woken up at night by people trying to pull the entrance gate open to allow their friends to come in.  If they can't get in that way, people just stand outside the gate and SCREAM and YELL for someone to let them in.  This is now a weekly occurence.  We supposedly have security, but I rarely see him around.  I went to take the trash out last night and was greeted by a HOMELESS man who was digging through the trash - at 9:30pm!  The straw that broke the camel's back occurred last night when someone decided to vandalize my car by taking a permanent marker to the hood!  The first thing I did was call the leasing office and while they are "truly sorry" this has happened, there is nothing they can really do; however, I can feel free to call my insurance company, because my renter's insurance should cover this.  I even asked if they would send a community wide e-mail to let the residents know that this has happened and to keep an eye out for your car and they refused to do that too!  They will send e-mails out about a Doggy Happy Hour, but refuse to send out an alert that COULD stop stupid stuff like that from happening to other residents.

Archstone Mission Valley has its perks, but believe me you are paying thousands of dollars a month for a false sense of security, an overturn of people moving in and out weekly (that is what happens when you offer a $199 deposit special and people can't actually afford the rent) and the inconvenience of not having an assigned parking space (and sometimes not having any parking at all).  I am looking forward to the end of January!
