I love coming to this store. In fact, it is the only reason why I go near the Golf Mill area now. The secret to going to Archiver's is to make sure you have a project in mind and make a list of what you specifically need. Otherwise, you will go in here and think of 5 different projects to start, and you can't finish the original one, because you are buying stuff for the next great creation.
I spend a lot of money here. Though I am no much of a scrapbook person, I do a lot of work with paper crafts. You can spend hours looking at all the shelves...Beware, you will spend money, but as a plus, you can make some awesome crafts that can be cherished for years to come!
I enjoy their coupons immensely, and I do agree that the customer service can use a bit of work. However, I don't know of any other scrap booking place around, so I don't mind the "big box" association, though I don't understand how going to Archiver's is a bad thing. I like the papers, and I don't want to be spending more money than I have to for a project. -

This review is for the customer service. Archivers itself is great, but it was the customer service that will keep me away. The 2 women that were working there, never said hello and stayed by the register chatting away, never acknowledging us. Everytime we asked a question, they looked annoyed and didn't look too happy to be there. When it came down to it, we had to help ourselves because they had no clue on anything that was going on in the store. But, this was not the worst of it.
My other girlfriend came and met us at the store. When she came in, my gf that was with me saw one of the workers pointing to her head like she was shooting herself. RIDICULOUS! So after that happened, we decided to not give them our business and went elsewhere.
To the workers that were there- I'm sorry you're miserable with your lives, you don't need to bring it to the workplace and treat your customers badly. Maybe you ladies need to find jobs that doesn't allow you to interact with people. Because of you 2 "fine" employees, Archivers in Des Plaines has lost 3 customers. -

There are tons of things you can get for scrapbooking here. Sadly, they really did not have many martail arts supplies, but I still liked what they had to offer. Fair prices, great selection, but just average customer service.
If you want to look for some cool ideas for photos and archiving, this is a great place to start! -

Two confessions:
1) I like scrapbooking. I know, it's kind of lame, considering I don't have kids and most of my pictures involve my friends in various stages of drunkenness. I don't care, I treasure those memories, and want to mount them on sassy decoupaged backgrounds and cover them in photo safe plastic.
2) I love Archivers. I know that's kind of lame too, since it's a big chain store. Still, I think they're great.
They have a huge selection-- I seriously can't think of something they don't have. They try to appeal to the local crowd with stickers, decals, and papers with school colors and logos from the nearby high schools. They even have a machine to print pictures.
They have a whole room that anyone can work in with die cuts and stuff, which is nice if you're just a passive scrapbooker and don't want to own all that stuff.
And their prices are totally reasonable. Really there's nothing not to love about Archivers.
Ok... good, now that that's off my chest, I feel better. -

I like Archiver's, but I would much rather support a local scrapbooking store than a huge chain.
That said, I do find some things here that I can't find other places - things that were made for Archiver's specifically (e.g. Autumn Leaves created a 1 stamp package for Archiver's $1.99 bin). There's always a good selection of cardstock and papers, but the patterned paper is rarely organized by brand, which I don't like. I find it a tad difficult to find things and don't think that they get a ton of new stuff as quickly as some of my local stores.
Some extra goodness:
- The $1.99 bins. If you dig long enough you can usually find some good stuff.
- The great selection of stamps/ ink. If you're into stamping, this might be a good place to go.
- The large selection of Cropper hopper type storage stuff. -

I have a serious love/hate relationship with this store.
The Good:
As someone who is more into paper-crafts than scrapbooking, this store still fills my needs and always gives me new ideas. Sadly, this has led to an effective drain of money spent on paper, embellishments and the like.
The Bad:
As a former employee, I can state with all certainty that I do not love the hard-core scrapbooking set. However, I can appreciate their dedication and enthusiasm for something that will last for generations to come. Still, getting snippy with employees because you can't use all 12 of your coupons at the same time is complete BS.
The Conclusion:
There is always something new going on, and there is a constant stream of new products, many of which are only available through Archivers. The workroom is free for use during most store hours (except during Scrap Mania), and there are a lot of classes, some of which are free or have a nominal fee to cover the cost of materials. There is generally a high turnover of certain products, and great deals can be found if you have the time to go through the bargain bins or the clearance section.
Go in with an open mind! This isn't "just a scrapbook" store! -

dear crabby lady who never greeted me and barely stopped doing what she was doing to ring me up, you don't have to give me attitude and unabashedly throw your pen-with-flower-topper on the counter when i say "no, i don't want to give you my phone number or sign up for coupons."
and, i might add, your rancid reaction left MUCH to be desired. -

Archiver's has everything. I feel a little bad going here supporting a "big box" but I only come to A) use my coupons I get in the mail and B) get something I cannot get at my local scrapbooking store (Windy City Scrapbooking).
Archiver's has all the big brands and the full, expansive collection of each line. They also have a section of "dollar bins" and a really nice clearance section.
They are always helpful and be sure to get on the mailing list to get the coupons in the mail - every month I get one for free cardstock and 30% off any item. -

Got my Free Cardstock coupon and 20% off one item coupon and I'm headed to Archivers!
But I like Archivers because of the aforementioned coupon (get on the mailing list and you'll get some great coupons, sales info and class details). It's a great place to get ideas for scrapbooking and card-making. This store in particular is one of the better Archivers I've visited. A Shout-Out to Karen--she was so wonderful in taking time to show me new products and demonstrating the tools, all without the pushiness of trying to make a sale. Her love of crafting really shows!
I've yet to try their crop nights--I usually go to a local place for crop nights. I like their free make-n-takes but I've kind of stayed away from those weekends. It gets too busy and there are some real die-hard folks that get real pushy--like they're afraid they're going to run out of the free cards? Otherwise it's a great place to browse and check out new papers and paper-crafting tools and embellishments. -

While I do not do scrapbooking I do make 3D mixed media collages, and Archivers has a lot of products that are difficult to find, including backgrounds. I love the large paper selection, and they carry 7 gypsies products!
I easily spend an hour in here each time I go so as not to miss anything new. Theres also a decent sized sale section too. If you are into scrapbooking they also do different classes and events. -

Archivers, you give me hope that when I am old and gray that you will give me plenty of things to do, a hobby if you will. I will be so happy to come into your store and brighten my day with your plethora of colorful scrap booking paper, stickers, and suplies galore! Especially when the weather and people outside are grumpy/gloomy. I know that you will be there for me when I need you the most. In exchange for the free cardstock you promise me all the time I will make sure my coupons are clipped neatly and ready for you to take. Most importantly, I will cherish each and every moment you and I spend together. Thank you for being you.

This place is like Disney World for the scrapbooking set. Seriously, you can spend hours here because they have a free work room in the back of the store. I'm not sure if all of the Archiver's locations are the same, but this one has die-cutting machines, decorative-edge scissors, paper punches, etc. that are out for everyone to use. They also have a color copier and a digital photo machine, which is really convenient (not free, tho). Ginormous selection of papers/stickers/pens/glues/tools, almost to the point of being overwhelming! They also do all sorts of fun classes and demo days, including the INTENSE 6-hour-long "Scrap Mania!" (I went once with my mother, but I am not hard core enough to try that one again...but if you're a dedicated scrapbooker you'd probably enjoy it!)

Archiver's is such a fun place for scrapbooking! Their scrapmanias on the weekends are a lot of fun and you get a lot of scrapbooking done. Their clearance sections are great, but generally the store can be a bit pricey. However, sign up to be on their email list and you'll get plenty of cost-saving coupons! Staff has always been friendly and helpful. It's a perfect place to meet up with scrapbooking friends for a night of creativity and chit-chat!

I am an avid sticker collector, so when this scrapbooking place came into town, I was excited for the stickers possibilities. While most of their stuff isn't all that bargain-priced to begin with, they do have certain discounted items in their sticker section (20-75% off). They also have a room in the back where scrapbookers can come and work in a quiet environment. They also hold classes as well. It's a clean place, and the selection they have is somewhat of a variety.

You really don't know where to start when you enter Archivers. The store is literally a scrapbooker's dream come true, abound with card stock in almost every single design and color you can think of. Archivers offers free classes as well, ranging from "Tool Time" to "Scrapbooking Basics." The only dangerous thing from the free classes is most students act on impulse and end up buying practically everything they were introduced to during class. I was a victim of this as well, but with practiced self control, you can walk away with your wallet full along with plenty of new ideas. The store is also very generous with their work stations and allow customers to come in Mon-Thurs to utilize basically every tool the store has to offer for free. My favorite part about Archivers are the people who work there. You can tell they LIVE to scrapbook and are experts in arts and crafts...they get just as excited as you are over a circle making machine. They also take their time with answering each question that is presented to them and give helpful suggestions.
