I first discovered Architectural Ceramic Design's wares at the Marin County Farmers Market.  Alan (it's his company and he's the main potter), sells beautiful and functional pottery, from mugs, to vases, and an innovative version of a garlic/ginger grater.  I particularly love his pot-bellied mugs; I give them away as gifts, and every person who has ever received one, goes on and on about how much they love them.  I love them too; the shape is sensual and organic, and the flared rim makes sipping more comfortable.  Alan can make just about any piece of pottery in a wide range of colors.

I love the natural earthy colors and amazing innovative designs. I too was taken by their garlic grater. I purchased one for a friend for her birthday and she exclaimed "I can't believe you got me something I never knew I wanted so much." Let's just say it has gotten a lot of use and is a highlight of every party or girl's getaway weekend.

I have since made a few more purchases from them and would love to get more if it didn't set me back such a pretty penny. I don't mind the cost to support a local artist though and am so excited to see them every time they appear at the Grand Lake Farmer's Market in Oakland. There is something so homey to his pieces, wonderful pieces to give as gifts or to add to your own collection.
