A great place for Asian products.. I pretty much get my staples/sauces/condiments from here. I noticed that most of the produce comes from Mexico.
BRING a jacket. It is freezing in there and I always need to leave sooner than I want to. -
Review from Vic C.
I come to this market pretty often because it is usually less crowded than 99 Ranch Market and has the same items and a lot of times at a cheaper price. Parking can be a pain at times since this market shares the parking lot with Yogurtland, Sinbala and a few other eateries and bakeries. I like to park in the back, behind the market because there is always parking there (oh and by the way, when the plaza right next door, with JJ Bakery and Din Tai Fung Dumpling House, is a bit crowded and parking is not available, I'll park in this lot and just walk on over).
Anyways, this supermarket sells all the typical stuff you'd expect from a Chinese market. Most of the employees speak Cantonese and Mandarin, but if you only speak English, you still shouldn't have trouble paying for your items because money is the universal language.
Produce here seems pretty good and the pricing is also reasonable.
The store is generally pretty clean and adequately stocked. Aisles are easy to navigate through and are logically placed (there are also signs in English that tell you what's down what aisle).
I like shopping here and have never had any problems. -

An okay place for Asian groceries. I feel like it lacks some things that other SGV supermarkets in the area have.

10-20%+ compare to 99 ranch. After reiterating that you dont need plastic bags, the bag boy still gives u one.

Located in the same plaza as Sinbala, Yogurtland, and Bun Bun Tea House. It's owned by the same people as Valley Supermarket on well Valley in Alhambra. The market is not as big as 99 Ranch, but it'll do for your basic needs. It's usually pretty difficult to find parking in this plaza, especially during meal times and the weekend.
It's conveniently located by the popular eats in Arcadia. So after you're done eating check out Arcadia Supermarket and buy some goods to cook masterpieces in your own kitchen. -

Not my favorite market to go and step into for soo many reasons!!
Parking is horrible, it seems like no one works and this parking lot is always filled no matter what time you come or go!
The organization skills of this place is not up to par and I really have a hard time finding things.
They do sell what every Asian market has and if you need to buy something specific just ask someone, but I really do wish it was a little bit easier to find.
The prices are reasonable and pretty cheap but I swear I get headaches after coming out I don't know if it is the smell or what but sadly ehhh I will go to this place if I am coming around the area and need to buy something back home. -

What I liked about Arcadia Supermarket over Ranch 99 is the selection of certain food items - I was looking for a specific Chinese red vinegar made in Hong Kong, and they carried it here, Ranch 99 and a few other places I went to did not.
They also carried this special type of coffee that I like, from Hong Kong.
To me, this is a typical, and sufficient Asian grocery store that serves the area quite well.
Walked past the frozen food items, fresh seafood, fish, and veggies - I wasn't exactly grocery shopping, just getting a few items, so I can't comment on their quality.
Clean, well lit, and decent parking.
Works for me! -

Ugh.
This place depresses me.
The stench when you walk in is amazingly bad.
From that alone Ranch market has them beat.
After going through the store and seeing the sad state of some of the live seafood (pictures soon to be added)
There was no doubt in my mind this wasn't a place for me. Some of the meats looked old as well.
Rosemead fish market or 99 ranch for me.Listed in: Gold Medal in Shittiness, The city of Peacocks, I heart seafood.

Yes, I'm a fan! I dont know why I didnt go here and always went to 99 Ranch. One day, out of ordinary, I went there to check it out. And I fell in love instantly!
Arcadia Supermarket is waaaayyy cleaner and more organized than 99 Ranch a mile away from it. They are well stocked, especially for Indonesian stuff, and cheaper too. But the main thing that caught my heart right away is the cleanness (compare to the dingy & expensive 99 Ranch).
My search for asian supermarket is sure over now :-) -

Huntington Beach, CA
This is an Asian supermarket. It is cleaner than some in Los Angeles, but that is not saying a lot. The 99 Ranch Market in Arcadia is about the same cleanliness and smell wise as Arcadia Supermarket, where the 99 Ranch Market near my place (in Huntington Beach) is immaculately clean and smells great. Arcadia Supermarket is reasonably well stocked, but the prices are a bit higher than 99 Ranch. The biggest problem with this market is parking. There are about a dozen very popular restaurants in this plaza that make it nearly impossible to find a space. Save your time, money and olfactory system by shopping at 99 Ranch Market.

Depressing place to go after visiting many trendy shops around the place.
There is nothing "super" about this place. It lacks the selection of other big name Chinese supermarkets. Comparably a lot smaller space with many gimmicky trinkets for sale on their bargain bin tables.
Can't really figure if they were trying to lure heavy shoppers (can't see it happening as there's not much to choose from) or they were trying to lure the normal traditional shopper. Both Ralph's and Ranch 99 would have been better choices for either types of shoppers.
Their seafood and meat sections were only having brisk actions while the fruits/vegetable section was even slower. Plenty of Taiwanese beers! Oh groovy. Other than that, it looked a strip down version of a Mitsuwa market. Plus they don't even any prepared bento meal packages for sale either. So it's really not much to look at.
Very small market with limited selections to choose from. Depressing indeed.Listed in: Taiwan Invasion!

I knew I wanted to grab some things since I live 20 miles away so was pleased to be the last customer they let in at 9pm (they close at 9.30pm but know it takes 30 mins to shop and pay. Smart.) I didn't have a list, but still know Arcadia Market (not quite Super) didn't have all I was looking for.
Yes, I got my fish cake balls for my noodle soup, the Chinese sausage for my little rice bowl meal-in-one, some tofu for my mabo tofu sauce, some crazy mushrooms and some gailan vegetables. But which aisle were the pastries? Where were the dried shitake mushrooms? And why no squid in cans?
Next time I'll go to Ranch 99 since that plaza has the pastry store and the take-out roast meat store too. So good, so yummy! -
Review from Andrew F.
Guang Hua did a darned good job of making sure they incorporated the 'Guang' into their market, because DAYUM! This place is BRIGHT!
There are 3 things I notice about Arcadia Supermarket (Guang Hua) right away:
1. Wow! The lights are stinkin' bright and borderline blinding!
2. Oooo - that's quite a collection of fruits you got there - boxes and boxes of fresh fruit (or at least it looks fresh) sitting on display
3. What's that funny smell? I guess they try to keep the place clean, and so they don't skimp on the cleaning agent - it makes the place smell kinda funny o_O"
WHERE YOU'VE GONE RIGHT:
So what's so great about Guang Hua? It's stuck smacked in the middle of the restaurant plaza on Baldwin and Duarte, so you can enjoy your Yogurtland or SinBala drink while you do your grocery shopping. The place is relatively clean, and it's neat. The facility seems a tad smaller than your typical supermarket, and therefore everything is pretty close to everything else - it isn't a lab mouse maze with aisles and aisles of never-ending aisles. The prices are pretty good on select things, otherwise they're pretty much the same as 99 Ranch down the street.
WHERE YOU'VE GONE BAD:
Because this place is smaller than the typical grocery market, the selections are limited. Whereas 99 Ranch has more variety and brands per item, Guang Hua doesn't offer you that luxury. And what peeved me a little last time I went? I wanted canned mandarin oranges to mix into my 'Jiou Niang Tang Yuan' and they didn't carry it! YOU HAVE CANNED JACKFRUIT AND DURIAN, BUT NOT CANNED MANDARIN ORANGES?! GAH!!! Then you find the most random stuff in here that you really wonder - why can't they use their shelf space a little more wisely? The ladies at the registers are all grumpy and grouchy, so any communication that exceeds paying with cash or swiping your card is ill-advised. APPROACH AT YOUR OWN RISK.
VERDICT:
I only come in here if I need to walk off the feast I just ate at May Mei or SinBala, and time to time come in for a select few items that I know I can't get at 99 Ranch, or know are much cheaper here. It's not bad, but it isn't great either. -

Happy Valley, OR
This place is old and smelly. I don't mind it if the prices were decent but it was a bit more then 99 Ranch. They have all of the basic Chinese Grocery store stuff that you would need. There employees seem to speak little English. Mainly Chinese and Spanish speaking employees.

Yes it's definitely not a trendy market, or a super one at that, but I found similar items (household stuff) at a fraction of the cost at this one as compared to 99 Ranch or other big name Chinese supermarkets (or Korean and Japanese ones for that matter).
Since I live in Irvine, we don't have THAT many Asian markets to choose from as compared to say if you live in Alhambra or Monterey Park area, so I'm bias I guess. I also managed to get some food items I am not able to get from my local Asian markets, just in time for CNY dinner. -

First of all, Andrew F. all the workers are immigrants some illegal and some legal that only came to this country to send more money back home or to raise their children. And I'm assuming the workers you're talking about are all Asian or Hispanic. They DON'T want to talk to you, they want to WORK. Screw the friendly crap, they have to ring you up. They'll only talk to you if you know their language or if they think you're interesting. Their lives are hard enough as it is. Don't make their day even worse by writing a bad review on their attitude. They're doing their job, I'm asian and it takes one to know one.
Now, on to my real review. :D
They have a lot of fruits and vegetables available and they're prices are great! I love how they have kitchen stuff and incense so they are really convenient when I buy stuff that I want to eat immediately. (Hooray for cheap and adorable plastic spoons!)
The location is pretty great too, if I'm on my way home from shopping in the area, I can stop by and pick up a snack since some restaurants and fast food places are kinda expensive. :) My mom likes it too, she buys groceries on her way home and she always talks about the great prices. :D Another plus is that it's near great shopping and is less than a mile from Huntington Blvd. :)
Definitely a great supermarket, took off ones star because sometimes parking is full. :\ -

It was clean (to me anyways...compared to some other Asian markets) and the produce was fresh but I was disappointed that the fish monger (the chubby short one) upsold us on the most expensive live fish! Tsk tsk.
I'd probably shop here again if I were eating at a neighboring establishment but I won't buy fish here anymore.
NOTE: If you squeamish like me...avoid the fish area if you're weirded out by things like....a tank full of live frogs piled up on one another waiting to be butchered! Ugh! -

This is quite possibly the worst Asian Market that I have ever been to. I didn't even want to buy anything from here b/c the boxed food was dusty. Smelly in here too and the whole interior is just drab, dark, and a depressing beige sight. Theres no parking either.
Compared to the Asian markets that we have in the Bay Area theres not a wide variety of items here, and the most important part of any store (the snacks) are definately lacking. Update your sucky snack section Arcadia super! -

1 star because someone was cold... how quaint. I suppose I should give it 5 stars because I love the cold!
Anyhoo, maybe it was because I was just at the Hoa Binh Market in Pomona this weekend (THAT was dark, dank, dingy, and dirty), but this market was refreshing and bright. And the smell couldn't have been that bad... I gag at the scent of fish, and I walked through the seafood section here with no issues at all. Lots of light, not crowded or cluttered... maybe I got lucky or something. I mean, this IS an Asian market, right?
I would definitely come back if I was in the area... perhaps to kill time while waiting for a table at Din Tai Fung or something. -

Arcadia, CA
It's not horribly dingy, but does have a less clean, less organized feeling than the Ranch 99 market a mile away. Prices are not that great either for the stuff you have to put up with. The freshness of stuff is suspect; I bought some seaweed here and they turned out to be moldy. Won't be shopping here unless I have too.
BTW, the parking in this center is the pits. -

This place gets a 5.
Yes, it's dingy, dirty, smells terrible, bargain items.
Welcome to an Asian Supermarket.
I love this place.
Update: I have forgot to mention the great bonuses of the bargain items located in the front. So the thing is, my dad spent a couple months (exaggeration) trying to find a good pair of nail clippers, from ergonomic clippers to curved clippers which cost a considerable amount of money. So saddened, we said screw it and bought the ones here for 79c. It turned out to be the sharpest and most durable nail clipper ever. Ever. Oh, and the cheap slippers in the front. -

There is nothing like walking into a store, looking around with awe and amazement at unfamiliar products and brands, with people who look nothing like you looking curiously at you wondering if you know where you are. That is until your Asian friend pops up beside you and it all makes more sense.
Some of your favorite kitchsy Chinatown items can be found here: old lady slippers, rice steamers, bamboo, Pocky and the good luck kitties. They even carry the weight loss green tea that causes stomach spasms so severe I wonder if the intention isn't to cause you organs to expel themselves. That'll take the weight off with a quickness! Who doesn't need chicken feet, pig heads, crabs and big lipped fish? I think I even saw some freeze dried larvae, but I can't be sure. The live frogs made me sad. I don't like looking at animals minding their own business, whom are destined to die, unbeknownst to them. I even discovered a new drink I'm fascinated to try "Nestle Chocolate Energy Drink". Or what if you need huge quantities of MSG to throw in the faces of your health conscious friends? Does it matter if you get twitchy-eyed and seize slightly after ingestion? This can be your own personal rebellion against the health system.
And there are all kinds of balls. I'm not sure what is up with the ball obsession. But, so many things come in ball form - rice balls, fish balls, sausage balls, there's probably frog and cow balls that I missed. There is, of course, rice, not in ball form. Rice of all kinds. Who can get enough rice?
They have supercheap produce including gigantic Asian pears and Korean pears too. Honestly I'm not sure the difference as last I checked Korea is in Asia. I was able to score a bag of cuties (tangerines) for 60% less than what they sell for at Von's and Ralph's, along with instant Udon noodles for the same discounted percent. There's something for black people too! Washclothes, people, for cheap cheap! Even a combo loofah washcloth - it is the best.thing.ever! No need to be walking around looking like Ashy Larry with this in your bathing arsenal. Exfoliate!
They won't be winning any awards from Mr. Clean, but it's not a sty either. There's something charming about the market, or maybe the music playing in the background contained subliminal messages influencing my mood. I wouldn't know though, I couldn't understand any of it. -

So lots of people say this place stinks. Personally... I think Costco smells worse. Sure, at times it has a funk but its not every day. Trust me, I go almost every day. Sometimes the meat and fish look a little sad.. I won't buy those. Big deal. BUT when they get those "special" baskets of fish and shrimps out for a pretty decent price... You will find some amazing food. I got beautiful shrimps the other day... they were so soft (fresh shrimp don't get chewy when you cook them!) and so sweet. See some pictures I posted and tell me if those are depressing!
Other than just the fish, the only Asian market I will get chicken or beef from is this one. The pork is just OK.
Their packaged stuff is always cycling through. I never see things with dust or expired dates. They even have organic miso paste and tofu. If they don't have something you were looking for they will try and order it for you.
Take a jacket though, this place is freezing!
And be careful driving, the lot gets crazy.. Come on a day you feel patient. -

* wide selection of Asian fruits and veggies, BUT pricey!
- paid: $1.01 for 1 LEMON & $1.65 for 3 small tomatoes! yikes!
* cheap plastic goodies: pitcher, tea pot, strainers, etc. I spent a good 15 minutes at that section and enjoyed every minute of it! haha -

It smells as soon as you walk in here. There was a flood of people walking in through the exit side. It was incredibly crowded, maybe because it is Chinese new year weekend. Lots of people lining up to buy lotto tickets. When it came time to checkout, there was a massive line that looped around.

This place is not trendy, let me stress that. However, if you love more mom/pop styles, no frills leisurely Asian shopping than this is the place for you.
While this place is kept at a stunning 60 degrees, and maybe the floors could be mopped once more a day (it's not filthy, just a bit worn) i have been able to afford healthy and fresh produce, mock meats, soy milk, FRESH noodles, bao, spices, teas, snacks, canned goods, and seafood.
Their fresh pastries and snacks are located to the left of the checkout stands right as you enter, next to the large fragrant bags of rice.
Not only can you get amazing Asian cuisine items here, they also have kitchen items, pots, pans, steamers, bamboo cutting boards, knives, bento containers, tea pots, and any other thing you can think of under the sun.
On weekends, they have sample stands too, offering fresh steamed gyoza and buns for you to try and buy.
It doesn't get 5 stars though, because there are a few things i don't like about it. It's a bit difficult at times to find someone to ask a question. The checkers speak loudly to one another while they are helping you and they can toss your food around a bit down the conveyor belt.
Those few things aside, now that I've moved, i still drive 20+ miles to go there to shop. It's truly a gem for those who want the real Chinese market experience, and not those flashy kitschy ones. -

Arcadia, CA
A couple of things in the other reviews didn't ring true for me. First, it's not dark and dingy inside. Second, it doesn't smell, at least no different than the average asian market (and I don't mean that in a bad way). I usually buy vegetables here and they are fresh, nice. Prices on everything are definitely less than 99 Ranch. 99 Ranch may be better but it also commands a premium. They do not have a fancy bakery section, but it is easy enough to find their bakery section (the other side of the store from the vegetables). No they don't double as a restaurant either. They are a grocery store. The discount tables do take up room that could be devoted to groceries, but some people like shopping those things. The hours are convenient. Because the plaza is very busy, parking can be a challenge. I've never had a problem with a cashier here; quite the contrary, they are almost always super curteous. This is a useful, fairly priced, good quality food market that is definitely worthy of being shopped.
