This is my go-to spot for cheap, greasy, filling diner standards. What I love about this place is that it's a throwback to when waltham was an industrial center.

food: good diner food and lots of it, nothing that fancy. eggs, sausage, bacon, omelettes, pancakes

people: friendliest waitresses I've ever met, tons of refills on coffee and water, which counts for a lot in a diner.

atmosphere: thankfully Brandeis students have yet to consistently visit this place. Mostly families, and tons of middle ages gentlemen reading their paper during the early hours. Counter, booths and tables, all typical diner style. No significant decoration

Pros: No nonsense food and place with a great value, laid-back attitude.

cons: if you like your diner food to be really high quality, don't expect much. No real decorations. Very cut and dry.

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was delicious. Warning: they close earlier than they say they do (they locked us in even though they were supposed to be open for another half an hour) and the "stuffed french toast" is really just french-toasted-sandwich (nothing stuffed), but still tasty.

I'm surprised Arcadia hasn't been reviewed yet.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!  My grandparents used to come here all the time for breakfast when my grandfather was alive.  He used to say it was the best place in town. ( I think its because the prices were cheap, they gave out free newspapers, and you could smoke inside).

The fiance and I took my grandparents advise and decided to check them out a few years ago.  I loved it.  It is your typical greasy diner foods... but its always hot and tasty.  Two can have a huge breakfast plate, with coffee and juice for under $10.  What more could you want?!

I wish we lived closer... I am craving their Greek omelet right now!

This place is the quintessential "Greasy Spoon". A local breakfast place on Main St. in Waltham is a very unassuming family-owned business as evidenced by the numerous family photos on the walls near the cash register. My guess is it's a Greek family, but I really have no idea. This is the kind of place where you wonder how they stay in business for both good and bad reasons.

First the good. The waitstaff are always friendly and they seem chatty with the regulars. The few times I've been here I've always been seated quickly even on busy days, and there's coffee on the table before I even ask for it. The menu is brief and the prices - wow, the prices - are dirt cheap. $3.75 got me  2 eggs, bacon, homefries, toast, and coffee. I don't think McDonald's can compete with those prices.

Now, the bad. I wish I could say the prices were a bargain, but in this case I think it's fair at best. The menu is limited to eggs and pancakes, nothing fancy like waffles, or even fruit. The food is always very greasy and bland. This last visit (probably my very last) left me with that sick feeling when you've eaten too much greasy, fatty food and I couldn't wait to get home and brush my teeth and scrape my tongue. The coffee was strong but it was a bit burnt. The decor is nothing worth noting, except for the pink Formica on every table. The tile floors were fairly dirty, but I was in at noon. My coffee cup had stains on it and the silverware had water spots. I feel like I'm being picky here, but so many little things just piled up to where I couldn't ignore them and there was little positive to mask them.

I went here because there was a long line for both "Joseph's 2" and "In a Pickle". Now I wish I had stood in line for 30 minutes at either one.

So how does this place stay in business? The food isn't terrible, but it really isn't any good either. If the average meal costs $4, I can understand the appeal, but then how do they make any money. If I was a suspicious person, I'd say this place was a tax write-off for someone or possibly even a front for something else. At best, this place is a convenient and cheap place for breakfast, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If this place does have a positive reputation for locals (maybe out of nostalgia?), I think they need to take off the rose-colored glasses and smell the proverbial coffee.

I love Arcadia. I have eaten at every breakfast joint within a 10 mile radius of Waltham and this place is my favorite. Aurora is a super nice person and the regular cook is the best. For the money you can't go wrong. Best scrambled eggs in town. Only cons are: grape jelly is the ONLY jelly, the decor has seen better days, and the ventilation is sub- par. Try it more then once and you'll be hooked.

The Arcadia is a strange phenomenon... a diner tucked into an unassuming storefront on Main Street, with a fairly nondescript sign.  Daily specials are written on large markerboards on the wall and by the front, and seating areas are small but numerous.

I've eaten here a bunch of times on weekends, and it's predictable- your standard diner foods at bargain diner prices.  There's nothing on the menu that's outstanding, but sometimes the daily specials are intriguing. Its strongest asset is that there's usually a spot open or opening up, so the wait isn't bad at all.  Waitresses are usually friendly, and service is average.  Coffee comes quickly and your breakfast may take a little while depending on who's on the grill and how busy the place is.

It's a strong player for weekend breakfast, but not my first choice.  I usually cruise by some of the other offerings on Main Street, and if they're all jammed I end up here.

This diner style restaurant is definitely not worth your time or money. The inside is very run down looking with the majority of booths having significant rips in the upholstery with the stuffing coming out. The prices are low but unfortunately the food quality is even lower. The walls and floors are grungy looking and the place in general is in need of a top to bottom cleaning.

This place is not just a little unappealing...it is disgusting. You can easily find much better places to eat within the next few blocks.

This is our go-to breakfast place on the weekends.  Yes its your basic greasy spoon diner you could find in any town.  But it have a few great things going for it.  Its cheap, its good, and there's a friendly vibe in there.  I got the western omelet for $5.75.  It also included a side of potatoes and toast.  Everything tasted great and came out quick.  I thought the service was friendly and I haven't been disappointed yet.

If you like breakfast, you'll like it here-- though you might die of a massive heart attack.  This place loves to use BUTTER, not that it is a bad thing...but I'd rather taste my food and not just the lard they use. I do like the unchanged decor.

This place is exactly what you want from a Greek dinner type restaurant. It's a breakfast and lunch place with a simple menu prepared well.  No surprises is refreshing sometimes. They have everything you can think of from steak bombs to hot dogs and the stuffed nutella and banana french toast look amazing. I'm getting them next time.

Grease, grease, and more grease.  The chow is CHEAP, so I used to go here for lunch sometimes, but after a while, I just couldn't do it anymore.  I would always leave with a gurgly stomach.  The people who work there are usually friendly (not always attentive though...once my sandwich was brought and my french fries sat on the counter for 10 minutes before it was brought over), but my stomach just can't handle the grease factor at Arcadia anymore.

This is a solid diner that I often frequent. Consistently good food, cheap prices, awesome waitstaff,  what more could you ask for?

Great place for a cheap breakfast. Eggs, bacon, omelets, coffee... what else could you ask for on a Sat./Sun. morning. Prices are cheap, service is quick. Not the selection of In A Pickle which is down the street, but a quick breakfast with much less wait.

Greasy breakfast diner food.  Let's put it this way, you're getting a massive breakfast for under $6 that includes coffee, eggs, pancakes, etc.  The omlettes are great.  The coffee is burnt most of the time, but again, it's diner coffee.  What do you come here for? The cheap food and the greasy diner experience.  It's much missed in most of Eastern Mass, and much appreciated here.  Arcadia, I salute you!
