Monterey Park, CA
Upside, 24 hour gym. There's a business center with internet, printer, and fax machine. There's a pool and a hot tub. Each apartment has it's own washer and dryer. Very clean and QUIET. Staff is AWESOME, we had 3 lights that went out and they came in and fixed it for us the day we told them or the next day. Maintenance staff is on top of everything. There's an iphone app that sends request right to the maintenance staff and less than 5 minutes later they're knocking on you door! Amazing!!!
Downside, apartments are EXPENSIVE. Parking is horrible at night, everyone seems to have a truck that they happen to think fits into a compact space. Some people get garages while others get shaded areas. We had to change ours a couple time. We have 3 separate bills - ISTA, SDGE, and if you want, cable and internet. -

I've been living here for two years and cannot wait to move somewhere else.
The good news is that the interior of the apartments are nice, and everything is gas. The landscaping is always maintained (more on that later), and the pool area is clean.
Bad news is that everything else about this place is sub-par. The parking lot fills up by 8 pm, and if you can't find a spot, it's out to the street with your car. Speaking of cars, my Jeep was stolen right out of the parking lot. When we told management they basically said, "Oh well." We thought they might let the neighbors know. They didn't.
The apartments have A/C and you're going to need to use it. Because if you try to leave your windows open you'll be awoken by the sound of leafblowers and lawnmowers. At 7 am. Every weekday. This place is also noisy in general, the sound carries loudly between units, and it feels like everyone's always having a party, so close your windows and turn on the A/C.
The maintenance staff is friendly and professional, but the problem is getting them out. We've had a broken curtain for the last year and a half and have called 3 times. The A/C will also blow a fuse every few months and then it's back to the noise. When our dishwasher broke, they quickly replaced it with a used one. There were still particles of food in it, and it doesn't completely drain. When we complained and asked for another dishwasher they told us, "You just got a new one," and refused to replace it.
Oh, and it's expensive. $1795 a month for a two bedroom/two bathroom. -

My suggestion to the staff in this community is to be more friendly. I called last week-end and I spoke to a Rep; she was very friendly. I was imagining her face with a smile while talking to me, that is what we call customer relations.
This apartment communty is not as big, the gym is quite small also. It is located at the end of West Canyon Road, quiet and peaceful, I hope, I don't live here, just looked at a particular unit. -

At first it was nice here, then the manager left and we went through 3 managers in a matter of 6 months and they started letting section 8 folks live here. Now, there's nothing wrong with being poor, however there is something wrong with leaving your trash and cigarette butts everywhere, taking up 3 parking spaces because your garage is filled with junk and hanging out on your patio laughing and gabbing until 3 or 4 a.m. Come here any time of the day and the parking lot is FULL. Almost nobody that lives here has a steady job.
The only redeeming quality of the place is the maintenence staff
As for the security patrol, quite simply there is none. Even people that live in Mexico have a key to the pool which never closes and is loud as all hell. People routinely bring in children who do not know how to swim. Have you ever seen a 14 year old with swimmies on? It's only a matter of time before a non resident drowns in that pool and they get sued.
They advertise no dogs over 30 lbs allowed, but our neighbor had a 120 pound pit bull and we lived right next to the management office.
And yes, there is a suicide apartment and Califonia law says they don't have to reveal which one it is. They wouldn't even admit it when it happened, unfortunately for the management most of the residents (and I use that loosely) know how to read a newspaper.Listed in: 1 Star Wonders

ZERO STARS....
We were promised a lot of things that never happened due to the economy... new gym/pool areas upgrades etc. I should have listened to the bad reviews on other website before moving in here. We never saw the unit before signing the lease (RED FLAG) so on checking-day we were pushed through by the ever ridiculous SHALLY. She literally almost made me change my mind about moving in. She was rude and pushy and made us feel badly about wanting them to fix things like BRIGHT PURPLE PAINT ON THE CEILING and SPLATTERED ALL OVER THE WASHER AND DRYER. The carpet in the extra bedroom was stained horribly, as in 4'x6' disgusting brown stained mess in the middle of the room. Shally said (with an attitude) well you can just put the bed there. Hmm a bed in the middle of the room, boy oh boy Shally that sounds like a great idea. I told her I was not moving in unless the carpet was replaced in that bedroom. She got very angry and said "OK FINE but you are responsible for any damage to the new carpet" ummm yes Shally, that is why we are signing a lease...I'm SO glad you understand leases.
The carpet was replaced in that bedroom, which CLASHED completely with the rest of the apartment. It was a different color/length/coarseness and it was very obvious that there was old crappy carpet in the rest of the place... with beautiful new carpet in that one room. I'm the kind of person who puts down plastic sheeting everywhere (to avoid dirty shoe marks) when the movers unload our boxes, so this kind of thing is not acceptable.
Lynette was great to deal with, if it wasn't for her sales skills I would have never put down a deposit/moved in here.
The maintenance staff was nice but they were at our place all the time. We had a strange dripping noise in the wall between our kitchen and bathroom which was completely ignored. I mentioned it to the workers a few times (when they were there to fix the POURING water from the upstairs neighbors bathroom but they wouldn't do anything about it.We had water leaking from our bathroom lighting fixture but HOW ON EARTH could there be water leaking anywhere else in the wall?? Trust me there was horrible water damage in that whole building.
We painted & cleaned EVERYTHING when we moved out. It looked 1000% times better than it did when we moved in, but we were still charged a cleaning and painting fee on top of other useless costs it came out to most of our deposit... I think we got back $40 or so. I wish we hadn't wasted our time, but I think it is respectful to return an apartment to a usable condition. TO ALL FUTURE TENANTS: do not bother.
Oh and last but not least they GAVE AWAY our designated parking spot 3 times while we lived there. My by would come home from work to find another car in his spot. One call to the office and babbling/ scrabbling/ return backs on their part lead to YET ANOTHER excuse "we're sorry, there's seems to have been a mistake, we gave your spot away" WOW again, how incompetent are you people really????? THREE TIMES?! Basic clerical maintenance seemed to be a struggle for them... oh well I'm glad we don't live there anymore.
ALSO: Beware... there is NO EXTRA parking at night so don't expect to have any guests stop by.... they will have to walk in from the main street. -

Really depends on your lifestyle. This place is BORING - it is always dead and deserted. If you are older and would like a completely secluded, quiet place to live, then it's not so bad. But otherwise living here really feels like you are disconnected from San Diego.
The staff are incredibly nice, however incredibly useless. They really won't even lift a finger to help you even for something simple.
The quality/condition of the apartments is nice, everything is kept in order and is clean. It's not loud or disrupting. If you are looking for something out in this location that is super quiet then I would recommend it, just make sure you read all of the details of the lease agreement VERY closely because they try to screw you over in every way possible when you move out. -
