Review from Tony B.
Nice, CA
We had the pleasure of staying at the Arbor House on Sunday Night. This was a trade situation and I hadn't been to the Arbor House before.
From the street I had assumed that the Arbor House was rather small. Not at all. Once you walk through the front door, the place reveals itself to be much larger than you can imagine.
Innkeeper Sam Karnatz greeted us at the door and took us on a tour of the place, pointing out all the amenities such as whirlpool tubs, private entrances and antiques. I was really impressed by the extraordinarily neat and clean appearance of everything. Nothing looked tired or worn, everything was quite tidy. And very inviting.
Behind the original old house is a new addition which is where we stayed. All told there are five guest rooms and ours, a seemingly brand new room, featured a two-person whirlpool tub along with fridge, sink, lavatory, toilet, sitting area and a very comfortable king-size bed.
While the new rooms don't have the old-fashioned look of the original rooms, they are really well crafted with very high ceilings and decorated nicely. If I were a builder who put this place together, I'd use it to show prospective clients. It's nicely done.
As nice as everything was, the breakfast was a huge standout. For our morning there was watermelon in a rum sauce with blueberries and cheese on top. Sam explained that, in the South where he grew up, the elders ate watermelon with salt and that the cheese was a better solution.
We also had potatoes, a wonderful frittata and tomatoes. Breakfast was a real treat.
I would be very happy to recommend the Arbor House to anyone coming to Lake County. It's beautifully maintained and the food is terrific.
