    Breakfast burrito - 5 stars
Home made chip - 5 stars
Home made hot sauce - 5 star

I would only give 5 stars if its a place with great food and  a great environment.  I've only ordered to go but I would assume the dine in experience to be just ok.  I will say that there are 4 mexican food places a lot closer to my house than this one but I'm willing to drive the extra distance.

So, carne asad fries. You think mmmmm, warm, melted cheese with criss cut, waffle fries, RIGHT? Well, in this case - WRONG!

Holy moley, I was really expecting something fantastic especially for the fact that I had those drunkie munchies in me at 3 in the morning, almost Sunday's good girl mode.

I was truly, upset. What happened? Hmm, excuse me waiter, can I get melted cheese?! Haha! I really, really had the great urge to ask but I didn't have enough of that liquid courage in me anymore. I wish it could have been warmer. I felt like I should've stayed on the Mission in SF for the real taquerias. Oh, forget to mention, nope, no criss cut, waffles fries!

The quesadilla looked tastier. I'll try that next if I happen to be around here.

Araujo's is peculiar. Peculiar in the way a lady with a husband and three cats is peculiar. Peculiar in the way a thrift store is peculiar. Araujo's is peculiar in that it has everything and all of those things are just decent enough to make it fun.

To be fair, my review will be slightly tainted. My partner and I (look her up: Frowne) ordered Araujo's breakfast faire: pigs in a blanket and the waffle breakfast special. Honestly, we went to Araujo's because it was like Denny's and Chili's were mated and then my abuela raised the child from birth.

Everything comes in enormous proportions. You'd think 4 sausages rolled up into pancakes wouldn't be able to take up a plate roughly the size of your lower arm. You'd be wrong. But you'd expect that whatever it was, it'd be just good enough, not spectacular. There, you'd be right. Flavors don't pop out, no special technique goes into the sausage, the pancakes aren't especially fluffy, they aren't creamy and light and they're a little dense.

But that's fine. I'm having g-d pancakes at a taqueria in San Bruno.

    Pros:
    -Great portions
    -Decent price
    -Abundant specials
    -Sweet staff
-Tastes just about the amount you paid for
-Apparently, the Carne Asada fries are bomb
-Free delivery during normal business hours
    -Seriously, free delivery.

    Cons:
    -An abundance of mediocre things
-You will be charged for using a credit card
-Trying, and just barely succeeding, to do everything

    Notes:
-There's a decent special if you come in between 5 to 10 am of... I forget what but it looked good. It's 3 bucks. You can get up before 10AM to get it.

I've been going here for years and this my first review. We come here because the food is good, relatively cheap and we use our Entertainment coupon. I usually order the Spanish Steak. I like it and haven't seen it anywhere else.
Downsides - service is always slow, even when we're the only ones around. If your not in a hurry it's fine, but we don't see a reason for it. A few years back they started charging $1.00 for chips. I do not know of any other Mexican restaurant that charges for chips. Do you? Today the waiter said that they charge $.75 to us a credit card, even a debit card. When I asked when this started, he said it's been a long time. Not that last time I was there, which wasn't that long ago. I don't know of any place that charges for using a credit card except for Arco.

Not too sure if I'll ever be back.

Carne Asada fries blahblahblah. I reaaaally don't get why everyone raves about these fries. Late night munchies, perhaps?

I came here with family during the wee hours because we were craving donuts from Rolling Pin. After, we decided we wanted to try these carne asada fries that everyone raves about. We ordered carne asada fries, quesadillas, and nachos. The quesadillas were alright, but I mean, how hard is it to mess up a quesadilla right? The nacho chips were stale and the carne asada fries? Disgusting. The fries were undercooked and the cheese wasn't melted. Service is alright.. not the friendliest but they did their job. Also, the food is overpriced and you have to pay for chips and salsa.

This review is for the burrito ONLY.

It's probably the best burrito I've ever had and I've had many. They're open late, they use fresh ingredients and have homemade tortilla chips. The problem here is that sometimes they're stale and I HATE their sign about having to charge for chips and salsa now because of the economic crisis.

The burritos are massive and really cheap. They used to be $5.99 and I think they're 7.99 now. Still a good deal. Open 24hrs!

ARAUJO! Give us free chips and salsa, come on!

If I could give them minus stars I would!  I have lived in San Bruno when this restaurant was up at Skycrest Center right near Skyline. Back then it was a great Breakfast place and I always went there with my Father. Now the place on San Bruno ave. is GARBAGE! The service is terrible the food taste like it was all microwaved and was just foul. I ordered crab enchilada and chile relleno, the crab was BAD and the relleno was just the grossest thing that you could imagine. After not eating ANYTHING they still charged me! I let them even though I should have walked out, but I called the bank the next day and all was good. Do yourself a favor if you want GREAT mexican food go to Celia's or my favorite, SAN BRUNO TAQUERIA!

I have been here a few times. There are booths surrounding three of the four walls and free standing tables/chairs in the center. There are neon lights everywhere... Like those cars and trucks that have chrome pieces all over them and look gaudy. It's a neon explosion.

The place is okay with some great people watching. I mean, every walk of life comes through their doors. It's really too bad they don't serve alcohol. I could sit there for hours drinking beer and create a "People of Araujo's" slide show for Youtube from all the pictures I'd get.

I had chicken ranchero last night. It was ok. The serving sizes are more than adequate.

It's open all night long. 24hrs a day. Yes, I have been here at 4am...what a people watching show THAT was!

No liquor is served which sucks when I wanted to have an ice cold cerveza with my pollo ranchero. So I had the bottled Coke that everyone goes crazy for because it tastes so much better than American Coke. It tasted like coke...in a bottle.

So, to recap...No liquor license. Okay food. Open 24/7. Great for people watching.

Check it out if you're in the area, you can't miss all of the neon lights surrounding EVERY window.

    I'll be going back.

Araujo's is my home away from San Diego Mexican food.  Whenever I'm craving something that is even slightly similar to any Mexican food in SD, this is the place to go.  And they're open til the wee hours of the morning so my friends and I always come here after an evening of drinking and debauchery.  My favorite thing to order here is their California Burrito with shrimp!  They add a wet sauce on top that makes the burrito so much better.  I've also had their carne asada quesadillas and carne asada chimichangas...both are very good.  The staff is always friendly and they know my circle of friends already because we frequent here.  I love this place and I think it's even better than some places in the Mission.  I would give it 5 stars but I can't because then I'd be saying they're better than San Diego Mexican food, which they're not.  'Nuff said....enjoy!

Not being the biggest fan of Mexican food, the Prince of Taiwan sought this place out after being given a coupon for a buy one get one free dinner deal.

I did enjoy this place, but as a non fan of mexican food, I dont have much to compare this place to, so I will go with the average rating. No, the food is definitely not complex, in my opinion, and really, sometimes that is a good thing. Not always need for a foo foo server to explain that the tea was handpicked by Pandas off the damn Himalayan mountains or something. We tried the pepper steak dinner and the crab enchiladas dinner. Steak might be a bit misleading, as the beef was actually shredded. And the crab meat for the enchiladas was definitely canned, not fresh. Again, not a complaint, just telling my peeps that this is what's up.

not bad. may try again if i get another coupon. Winning!

I went there with my family today as a last minute lunch spot. Place looked tacky, but Mexican tacky. No offense, I just mean that the vivid purple made me feel like I was in an authentic taqueria that was going to have good food.

Walk in to a sign that says "Due to the economic recession, we must charge $1 for chips." I thought this was a bit weird/rude, but whatever. I sat down and ordered some tacos. We then got some chips and began to eat. Found a hair in the dip sauce and pulled it out while my family wasn't looking (my mother tends to make a scene about every little thing and I really preferred to deal with a hair than her). Not two minutes later, as we go into the main meal. First of all, my meal was just odd. I ordered tacos but I really got a concoction with a salad on top. By the time I got to the tortillas underneath they were soggy to all hell. the meal had to be eaten with a fork. Like I said though, I'm not picky. I had one problem though: just a few minutes after finding the hair in the dip, my mom finds a hair in her food as well!

She was actually kind and discrete about, signaled for someone (the waitress never came to check on us, so it took awhile) and asked for them to take it back. She didn't want to eat anymore so we finished our meals and waited for a check. 20 minutes of sitting. No one. 10 minutes longer. No one. My dad got frustrated and went to the front looking for someone and finally found someone to give us the check. I can't say if they were avoiding us or were just bad service.

Horrible service, tacky decor, dank food, and poor sanitation. I felt like I ate at the "Before" of Kitchen Nightmares.

To name a few things that I do love about this place:

    1. It's open 24 hours, so you can stop by here anytime of the day. Whether it's for breakfast or a midnight snack.

    2. Parking. I lose my cool pretty quick when trying to look for a parking spot. There's plenty of spots on the side.

    3. California Nachos w/ Carne Asada. That's all you really need to know.

We went here since it was late and we knew this place was open all night.  I got a burrito grande with al pastor.  Overall the burrito was good, they put a brown sauce on the outside that was very tasty.  The burrito was also HUGE and I was stuffed after eating it.  The guy working in there was also very nice.  The reasons I gave it three stars are:
    Their chips are just average
The al pastor was a little tough
The prices were a little high
Overall though it was solid and I will probably end up there if I need a late night snack!

This place was the worst. I waited 20 min for them to make my taquitos. Get back to the office to eat but they were totally disgusting. Not only that but they forgot the guacamole that comes with it. All I got was a wimpy slice of avocado. Worst $15 bucks I ever spent. Oh yea, $15? What kind of price is that for 2 taquitos plus rice and beans. Never again.

If I could give it zero stars I would.

I hadn't been here in about two blue moons, then I went here with my family about two times in two weeks.  We ordered our typical spread both times--chile relleno plate for my wife, cheese quesadilla for the kid, and big old veggie burrito for me.

Good food each time, quite consistently.  I was worried that my wife wasn't going to like this place--there have been multiple old favorite places of mine that I couldn't wait to take my wife to, only to find out that she loathed the place.  This wasn't one of those places--she liked it so much the first time that she wanted to come again.  She then told me on the second occasion that she though that the chile rellenos here were the best she had in the Bay Area since La Michoacana in San Mateo closed.  That's pretty high praise.

The one thing that neither one of us had praise for was the service the second time around.  The first time, our server was extremely friendly and helpful.  The second time, service was detached and cold.  She wasn't unhelpful, but very emotionless and unenthusiastic.  The other tables she waited on did not get this sort of treatment, including the booth next door to ours where she and the single man eating there seemed to be flirting with each other. . .this kind of left us with raised eyebrows.

So anyway--go here for the consistently great food, but understand that good, friendly service may be hit or miss depending on who is waiting on you (and whether or not she likes you).

I am picky about my mexican food.  I had a great meal here but let me say I don't give 4 stars easily with all the competition around.  However...

I was parked across the street at 4 am waiting for the bart to start running so I could return my rental car I had just filled up at the nearby gas station and take the bart home.  This was open!

I sat down and asked what was good here and they recommended one of the plates with pork, refried beans, rice, salsa, tortillas... the server was friendly (I spoke in spanish) and I was happy and was able to pass the time watching spanish television and reading my kindle while I ate and waited.

Open 24 hours, decent food, delivers, and near the airport?  I am a fan!

I told my boyfriend that i was craving chips and salsa. It was about 2 am and he says "i gotta take you to Araujo's then".

The restaurant was quiet. Only one customer sat in the corner. We were quickly greeted and handed menus. We were offered chips that they now charge $1 for because of economic hardship. We declined the chips and began to look over the menu. My boyfriend looked only out of habit because he already knew he wanted the Carne Asada fries, which come out in a giant heap, covered in nice chunks of carne asada, guacamole, sour cream, and deliciousness! I ordered the carne asada nachos, which were also really good! The waiter brought us two different kinds of salsa that we could bathe our dishes in!

The food was so good that we only shared one bite of each other's dishes and declined sharing anymore LOL ! I definitely want to go back and have the carne asada fries this time!! (i think on the menu they are called the california grande nachos)

Definitely a place to go with friends and grab a tasty bite!

Grande burrito. Its huge, like the name describes it as.
Taste, it's pretty good, when I arrive there at 230am.  Would been better if the beans and meat was spread out evenly. First I thought I was just eating a black bean burrito, then it changed to all meat burrito.
The green sauce for the chips was ok. If the sauce is a bit thicker, it would been awesome. But its not, its watery, therefore I have to put more on each chip to have the taste.
Good for after party and don't want other food, other than that, I don't think I will be back anytime soon.

Araujo's is a decent spot for some American/Mexican comfort food.  I wouldn't go here on a regular basis, since I would get my burritos at El Farolito, but I do like how they are open 24 hours a day.

Even though it's not too far away from me, I have never eaten here until I saw their pics on Yelp not too long ago.  What sold me was how they actually had Carne Asada Fries.  So that's what I ordered when on my first visit there.  I've never had Carne Asada Fries before, so I thought what I had was pretty decent.  I loved how it was loaded with Carne Asada Steak, Cheese, Sour Cream, Avocado, and Refried Beans.  But the Fries themselves weren't so great, which offset all that good stuff loaded on top of the fries.  I guess for now if I want Carne Asada Fries, I'll stick with Iguanas.

They do offer coupons online and in the mail, so you can always get some good Buy One Get One Free deals.  Since there aren't too many 24 hour restaurants my area, Araujo's can come through for me if I get the late night munchies.

What has happened to one of my favorite late night places?? The food is still the same but the service has hit rock bottom. My buddy and I stopped in around the 3am and sat down. Usually they come out and give us a menu and water. I noticed that the one and only server was sitting down in one of the booths just watching TV. He didn't get up til his friends stopped in and they got menus and water first.

We were sitting there for a total of five minutes and he finally saw us and brought some menus. We gave him our orders and he never asked if we wanted any chips and salsa. He spent most of his time talking with his friends and gave them chips and salsa and taking pictures for the large group that were in the large corner booth. We only saw him two other times, when he dropped off the food and when gave us the check.

I have been a loyal customer for years and that was the worst time I ever spent there. Absolutely terrible service. Couldn't wait to leave and that is why I am lowering my rating to two stars. Araujo, you need to pull it together with your server. I never did catch his name but I did remember him working at Jack in the Box and he wasn't good there either.

Listen to Ciper - Brando Calrissian, they are open TWENTY FOUR HOURS! And they serve breakfast! Waffles and pancakes!! I have found an alternative to IHOP and Denny's! Hurrah!

Now my fiance and I can compromise on what to eat late at night. I like breakfast and he likes mexican food. Perfect!

I've only eaten there once, but this is what I can gather from the place:
-Araujo serves humongous burrito. It's about the size of my foot after getting stung by 100 bees. And I wear a size 8.
-The only mexican place I know that serves waffles. Try the special waffle, I don't know what's so special about it but I like it anyway. FYI, I think they only serve waffle until 2 pm :(
-The waitress was very nice. She let us leave some flyers for our upcoming business that's opening nearby in june 2007 (LA Boxing!! plug plug!). She's also very vigilant in refilling our water.
-Bring cash if you can, they charge 75 cents for card transactions.

I can guarantee my return visit sometime soon.

Now that my ROTD period has passed, I think it's safe to make adjustments to this review. I kept my promise and I have been returning to Araujo every now and then. A few things to add:
    - They still have the big-ass burritos.
    - The taco especial does not look like tacos at all. It's more like a plate of flour tortillas topped with a mountain of meat and other stuff. Forks are required to consume this dish.
    - LA Boxing (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) is open for business (more plug!).
    - There's a noisy, gigantic gumball machine near the second entrance that will eat your quarters. It says you can win 1 to 10 gumballs, but so far we've never gotten more than 1 gumball. It even ate my quarter without giving me anything a couple times.
    - And the most important thing, it's still open 24/7.

Among our darkest fears of moving out of San Francisco was moving away from being surrounded by oodles of excellent restaurant options.  In many ways, our fears have been more than substantiated and proven truer than wrinkles with old age, by our first few ventures out into the Daly City hinterlands of foraging options.  (Good thing I do like to cook, and Trader Joe's is nearby.)

Araujos, however, is a shining beacon of hope.  Sure, it's in San Bruno (still not entirely clear on where that is in relation to us), but MOST importantly, they deliver.  That's right folks, the lazy but food-snobby still have recourse even out in the boony burbs.

You have to order $30+ if you want delivery, which we can easily do, cause we're gross like that.  We're sticking with the Mexican fare only, so far: the favorites being chicken tostada/cheese enchilada combo, chicken quesadillas, & chicken nachos so far.  It's like Mexican diner fare with really excellent quality chicken (haven't tried other meats yet).  Delivery can take up to an hour, via a nice woman who always appears out of breath (surely she doesn't run the orders over - where *is* San Bruno, anyway?).  We've ordered from here 4-5 times in our 3 weeks here so far and have been happily sated each time.

It's one of those late nights or early mornings when you're just tired of getting a regular burger or typical asian food and want something else to sit down too....while you're drunk.

They got that decor that doesn't help with the hangover. The food is greasy enough to soak up the alcohol. The staff is nice enough to cater to my drunkenness. And they are open enough for me to come here every time I get inebriated anytime of the day, anytime of the week.

Other than the mexican food...I generally come here for the milkshakes....I generally like milkshakes and I like them here.....and oddly enough I once woke up outside my old apartment to what appears to be a milkshake and a discarded milkshake cup....

gawd I hope it was a milkshake.

So I was determined to eat something OTHER than a burrito since some of us at work will sometimes order takeout from here and that's what I usually end up with. It was a tough decision since there was so much on the menu, but I was also being pressured by my own growling stomach. It was weird to see the dessert menu on the front cover of the menu but whatever. After careful deliberations, I decide on the Pepper Steak (supposedly rib-eye, in a spicy sauce, and there was bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms).

As I'm sitting there, I see a sign saying how if I wanted chips, it's $1. Great... Then I look across the room and see a sign that says if I want to use credit OR debit (that latter of which is free for them), it's another $0.75.  not liking where this is going.

    So I sit...

    ... and wait...

    ... and sit...

    ... and wait...

    ... and sit...

    ... and wait...

until finally my food came. My eyes had already been glossed over from the hunger so I'm not sure exactly how long it was. I think it was still the Dubya administration when I initially ordered, but I might be wrong. It was either that, or maybe close to 15-20 min wait. Now in a fancy restaurant, that's reasonable. But Mr Araujo, you are no fancy restaurant! It's not like there are multiple cooking processes involved here. You dump everything in a saute pan and there you go!

The food tasted as it looked. The meat was tender enough. The saucy had some kick to it. The veggies were properly tender. They gave me one of those cool little tortilla servers, which contained just 3 corn tortillas. I finished those in no time and then the waitress startled me with her attentiveness and asked if I wanted more tortillas. I told her that I'd love some more and I put down my fork, eagerly awaiting said tortillas.

    So I sit...

    ...and wait...

    ...and sit...

    ...and wait...

    ...and sit...

    ...and wait...

until finally, another nifty tortilla server container arrives with exactly 3 tortillas inside. I must've been sitting there looking stupid for about 5 minutes waiting for those 3 tortillas. If you sent me to the kitchen with some masa dough, a rolling pin, and a grill, I'd be done quicker than that. Alas, these tortillas were far from hand made. I'm sure they were just taken out of the package and steamed.

As I finish my meal, I decide I've waited in my seat long enough so I try to get the ball rolling on the bill and head straight to the cash register. Employees whiz by me a few times but there I am standing... and waiting... well, you get the picture. Finally, this girl comes out from the back and says to me "yo, what's up!" like I was her long lost friend. She kept on cruising right by me to talk to someone sitting at one of the tables. Great, I wasn't the long lost friend, and I'm still stuck standing there waiting. In my younger days, I would've been out the door already (since they didn't want my money). Finally someone shows up to graciously accept my money and I'm able to leave. I leave a 7% tip on my way out.

Overall, food was just mediocre and it just wasn't THAT busy to warrant such crappy service. This place is probably only good at certain times, namely about 10pm to 4am, when this is the best thing out there.

Even though they are opened 24 hours I think they over charge a lot of their items.

This place looks family friendly so I'll give them that. The customer service was okay too since the lady that rang us up was nice. They get 2 stars from me.

I believe it was 2 months ago when I came here for a burrito and nachos the bill came out to be about $20! Wth!!! I could get that for under $13 at El Super Burrito on El Camino!

Food wasn't that great either. Maybe I didn't like it as much since my damn nachos were so damn expensive.

I remember bringing the food to my friend's house and he only lives 5 minutes away. The chips were already soggy by the time we got to his place.

    Ugh NEVER AGAIN!

It looked interesting from the outside; brightly painted with Mexican colors and a lunch crowd.  There was only one server for lunch.  Who charges for chips and salsa?  Well it turns out that Araujos charges for what appeared and tasted like salsa from a store bought jar and chips from a bag.  That was not the end of this calamity, they had no beer.  The chicken soup was tasteless.  The fish tacos were armature hour, rice and beans were also not so good.

This was supposed to be the lunch special taco plate and the bill was $15 with a modest tip for the overworked server.  Don't forget, they charge for chips and salsa without advising you of this fact and I drank tap water, no beverage.  Are you ready for this one?  They charge 75 cents extra if you use your credit card.

Amazingly they don't speak Spanish either.

My dad used to take me here when I was a kid. Back then it was a regular taqueria and they had 1 arcade game. Black Tiger. I'd beg my dad to take me here under the guise of taco withdrawal but really the fix I needed was more Tiger de Negro. My dad would chop it up with the Mexicans while I would kill monsters and elude the grasp of the wily minions of dark on my beloved game. It was housed in a Sega box so I thought Sega made it and would come out on the Sega Master System. But I was wrong. It was not made by Sega. It did not come out of the Sega Master System.

Back in the day, you could describe this place as "The taqueria across the street from Rolling Pin." Today things are quite different. Today you would describe this place as "The Disco Jesus taqueria across the street from Rolling Pin. You know, the one that's open 24 hours and has a fountain out front. No man, not that one. You know, the one that serves pancakes and tacos. The one with the transgender waitress and the weird walkway up to the door. Yeah, that ONE. See, you know the place."

Gone are the days of Black Tiger and fake withdrawals. In it's place we have a 24 hour establishment decorated by someone with the fashion sense of Elton John and the insanity of Little Richard, minus the jerri curl juice. It's the kind of place you'd expect to find in the city, not in San Bruno. Some people might find this place hard to take but I like it. Much livelier and interesting  than IHOP or Denny's, that's for sure.

    1st star - 24 hrs.. zOMG!
2nd star - delivery! (and on a sunday too)
    3rd star - tasty satisfaction...

HOWEVER, the other two stars will be pending... I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Since we ordered over the phone, I'm hoping that they just accidentally screwed up our orders. I ordered a wet super carne asada burrito w/ extra salsa on the side (super which they explained  over the phone, includes guac/ sr cream/ salsa..)

Although, the burritos are relatively good sized with lotsa meat, rice, and beans, NONE of our super burritos had a trace of guacamole or salsa.. :(! to me, that's like the next best thing after the meat.. wtf!!! I wanted a damn burrito because I craved guacamole/avocado goodness... WhY, would you leave it out...?!?!?! If I try them again, they better have guacamole... *HUFF PUFF*!

Oh, and they charged an extra fee for using a Mastercard.. even when our order came out over $30.... strange!

Let me preface this review by saying that when I'm drunk and hungry, I make questionable decisions.  Deciding to eat at Araujo La Taqueria was perhaps one of my most questionable.

Looking back on it, I can't blame my friends, or even myself, for wanting to eat here.  I was unwillingly drawn in by Araujo's grand aesthetics: the multi-colored neon lights that make the place look more like a seedy casino than a Mexican eatery.  And of course, Aruajo's is open 24 hours.  Where else are you going to go at 2 in the morning?

So as I sat down, still half buzzed on Steel Reserve and Keystone light, I began to devour the fresh chips and salsa placed in front of me.  I was very impressed by the green salsa, and was quick to pat myself on the back for making such a great dining choice.  Then the burritos came.  The burrito was very bland and paled in comparison to the bright lights of the restaurant's exterior.  I was expecting a unique and flavorful blend of fresh ingredients, but received a burrito that had its light switch turned "off."

I am not by any means hard to please when I am drunk and hungry.  Araujo's wooed me in with their bright lights but couldn't come through with the food.  My advice to Araujo's: shut off the electric light parade during non-peak hours, and with the money you save on your PG&E bill buy better ingredients or hire better chefs.

Went here with a coworker on the late night .

ordered the super nachos and was pretty disapointed with what i got.

as far as taquerias go, Araujos gets a +1 for being open late. but the food isnt anything special and is a little overpriced.
