This is my favorite poke spot amongst all of Hawaii, with The Pokeman on Oahu a close second. They have all different kinds of poke from the basic ahi poke to the spicy lobster poke. All of them are delicious. I think what sets them apart are the freshness and beautiful colors of the fresh fish, along with the chili water and spicy mustard/shoyu mix they give you.
For anyone looking to bring a local snack to the beach or want something quick after a relaxing or adventurous day, this is definitely the place to stop at. Just remember they close early on weekends. -

Really good poke! I love the bean sprouts too! My coworker told me this was better than the fish express but I couldn't tell the difference. They're both good! :)

Abalone Salad & Korean Tako are my favorites!!! My husband picked up their Poke-made Wasabi Mayo and Shoyu. Loved this place!! So much selection and you can chose your "fish" and from the menu how you would like it to be marinated. Many choices (Kimchee tako, spicy ahi, etc.) Try the abalone salad ($19.99/lb), it's a bit pricey so I just stuck with a 1/4lb for taste. It's right next door to Hanamaulu Cafe.
Check out my pics.

This little market is a good find. They have plate lunches and a ton of fresh poke. We had the Abalone Tobiko Poke and the Maui Onions. Wow. Both were ono. The abalone was perfect and not fishy at all. It had texture with the exact amount of bite. The tobiko added that slight texture mix to give each toothpick full an explosion of flavors in your mouth. The maui onions were perfectly seasoned and prepared to snack with any soft poke and to chase your beer with.
Cracked open a Primo and enjoyed life on the lanai. Lots more to try here. Might have to get me an Ara's shirt!Listed in: A-L-O-H-A a little aloha in…

One of the best poke I have had yet. I went with one of the other Yelp'ers review and had the spicy tuna don. It was awesome. I also had a sample of their tako poke. It was fresh with no salty rubbery taste to it.
I wish they had a sampler of the window case foods. I wanted to try them all but not at 1/4 lb each.
If you use Android Maps to find this place, it will tell you it's on the wrong side of the street. -

My friends brother who lives on Kauai took us here. They have the best poke I've tried (and I can eat poke for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if its that good); the shoyu mustard sauce makes it even better. Haven't found a place that even comes close to the taste and freshness. Went back to Kauai last month and made 3 trips to Ara's in 2 days...simply the best :) Plus, every person that helped me with my order was so nice.

Ara's is a real gem of a fishmarket on Kaua'i. A true mom-and-pop establishment, you're greeted warmly and with a deli case full of local seafood specialties. Spicy shrimp with tobiko, taco (octopus) salad, and at least three different types of ahi poke (shoyu, seaweed, etc) are only a small fraction of what caught my eye.
We loaded up on the aforementioned goodies, the shoyu ahi poke was a total steal at $6.99/lb and was deliciously fresh, not too dry or too wet, and well-seasoned. I also had a spicy tuna donburi, the fish plucked out of the case and dressed with spicy tuna sauce as I waited, and an option of plain or sushi rice to accompany the fish. There were other bento options but it's best to arrive earlier as the bentos become unavailable towards the end of the day.
Ara's is a great stop for lunch or on your way to holoholo - stock up on poke and other snacks, and grab beer from their selection of three cases. If you're lucky they'll even give you a free POG (yes, of pog-playing fame) with your purchases.
Ara's is located near the Wal-Mart, next to Hanamaulu Cafe in Hanamaulu (though, as the address insists, it's formally in "Lihue").Listed in: Kaua'i

Best "ahi poke" on the island. Yes, I am haoli, but many local friends agree, and their are plenty of locals in the shop all the time. Plus it is a family run and own shop. That seems to be rarer these days. I usually get a spicy ahi poke bento with sushi rice to go. Support local shops, support good food!

The best fresh fish. No previously frozen fish here! Tastes yummy...My favorite is the ahi onion poke and Kim chee Tako. I can eat them everyday! Their musubis are good too, they sell out fast so make sure you get there before lunch time to get one! Thank you Ara's!
