I have to say that he is very talented and does LOVE his work, but you need to know certain things about him before you use him.
Nahabet is a very good jeweler, but you do have to keep on him about things. We had him custom make our wedding bands, and everytime we went to him and asked for certain things he acted like he knew exactly what we wanted, but when my ring was halfway done it was not how we described. BUT he did fix it, so I give him a lot of credit. But make sure he REALLY understands what you say. Also, his price was more at the end of the deal than he said it would be.
Also, he constantly jokes and is not really a straight shooter.

Nahabet, the owner of Ararat Jewelers, is the best jeweler I've been to in the country. He made wedding rings for my husband and I that were exquisite and just what we wanted. He is extremely knowledgeable, a fantastic designer and a wonderful man and father to boot. I recently needed my mom's engagement ring fixed and Nahabet did it extremely quickly and the ring has never been cleaner.

I highly recommend Ararat for all your jewelry needs, especially diamonds. He gets the diamonds that you pay more than 2x for in the big name stores.

I walked into Ararat after hearing that there was a place in the jeweler's building downtown, in Boston, that made custom jewelry...anything you want.  I walked in and spoke with the owner at Ararat.  He stated that he could make anything I wanted.  We discussed a custom designed name pendant, and I showed him something on paper.  Within about three weeks the pendant was made to my specifications, and it was even more than I expected!  I got compliments on the pendant the first day I wore it.  I am waiting for another pendant to be completed.  I highly recommend this establishment.

I agree with DiDi, this guys is very good.  Some of the jewelry look like estate pieces, some very modern.  He will design whatever you want and is very friendly... no pressure to buy like other jewelry stores.  Has a website, I think it's http://ararat.com so you can check out some of his original designs.

I was sent to Ararat on the recommendation of a friend.  I had a couple of diamond rings that I wanted to reset.  They were both in platinum bands.  While very creative about what we could do with the stone, I was extremely uncomfortable with the negotiation of price.  I never really had a clear idea of what Nahabet was crediting me for the platinum, what the price of the work was, or what the cost of the setting was.

In the end, when I received my piece, it was poorly crafted - the crossed setting isn't even straight...and he kept one of the small diamonds in one of the bands but I was so uncomfortable I left before realizing it (admittedly this is partly my fault but he should have returned it or credited me).

Maybe it is cultural but the transaction left me uncomfortable.  Nahabet was very friendly and creative but was very unclear about pricing. I don't even mind paying more...I just want a clear picture of costs when I make a purchase.

I won't even attempt to spell my Armenian jeweler's name.  But he owns Ararat Jewelry in Boston's mini wholesale diamond district.  He hand-designs and personalizes his jewelry.  It's incredibly opulant, exotic stuff, and he sells quality stones.  So far, I have an engagement ring, a wedding band, pearl earrings and a pearl necklace from him, but I want more!!!  I couldn't be happier with his service.  He keeps a file, so if he ever has to replace or replicate what I have, he can.  He's super nice, and he's like a part of our family except for the part where he takes thousands of dollars from me and  I have no idea how to spell his name...

Nahabet is so good that I am trying to reconnect with him after he did work on a ring and a custom built curb link gold chain he made for me over a dozen years ago. The ring was stolen a few years ago and I want him to recreate it because after seeing what all other jewelers offer I would never do business with anyone but Nahabet. I'm now on the other side of the country, but I know Nahabet has photos of my ring in his portfolio book and could recreate it. His work is unrivalled. I just hope he still works there.
I'm a big guy with a big neck and big fingers who likes gold and diamonds. He took a large nugget ring with 5 .2 stones and a .65 stone and made the relatively cheesy settings look gorgeous, finished and professional and hacked off the hideous excuse for a band, which I got specifically because it was the biggest and most sturdy one I found and I need it big and thick to match my fingers and my need for rugged, durable jewelry, he replaced it with the most gorgeous, professional looking and feeling, molded, turned, smoothed, polished, just exquisite band which turned my $1,500 pawnshop ring into something easily appraisable for $3,500.
Run out of any other jewelry store you're thinking of giving your money and run to see Nahabet at Ararat's in the Jeweler's Building in Boston. He'll custom make jewelry you've only dreamed of, and then he'll make it even better than you ever could have imagined it.
The large curb link chain that we designed together was 7.5 ounces of 14K gold, about 21.5" long to be a comfortable choker for my 19.5" neck. Together we designed a unique clasp that was virtually invisible as well as being super well reinforced. 4 guys actually attempted to rob me and all 4 of them pulling at the same time couldn't break that chain. This guy is a genius.
